Polaris Thrust Jet Adjustment

  • Thank you for checking out our video.
    In this quick video, we’ll show you how to make adjustments to the thrust jet on your Polaris 280 pool cleaner.
    Like most of our mechanical devices, your pool cleaner will require periodic adjustments, routine maintenance, and the replacement of certain parts. Anyone that has one of these cleaners probably already knows what a workhorse it is.
    We run ours twice a day and it does an excellent job of keeping much of the debris picked up. Depending on the size of your pool and surrounding conditions, you should adjust your pool cleaner accordingly.
    One thing that I strongly recommend is to keep a small bin or container of minor spare parts on hand. The cost won’t be too excessive and when a minor part breaks or needs replacing on your pool cleaner, you’ll be ready to replace it, and will be able to keep your pool crystal clean and ready to use.
    Some replacement parts are expensive so it might be challenging to keep them on hand but most of the components can be purchased online and you’ll be able to get them pretty fast. You can check out our Amazon links below or go to our Amazon store for a more detailed list of parts for pool cleaners.
    Thanks for watching!

    If your Polaris is floating and not staying to the bottom…..check the RPMs of the wheels as per the manual. Had my pool opened (year two) and the polaris which is also two years old, was floating and sporadically sticking to the bottom as it should. I tested the RPMs and they were way high. I should have known this since the unit was moving rather quickly when it was sticking to the bottom. Turns out the restrictor on the UWF was NOT THERE. Either the pool company removed it when they closed the pool or forgot to install when they opened. I had the red restrictor and installed that. The rpm’s were right at the minimum 28. The Polaris now works perfectly. This could be one of three things if your unit isn’t staying on the bottom. Read the manual and do the trouble shooting. It’s not hard and you should be able to fix on your own.

    it would help me if you would make a video showing what the cleaner does when set certain ways. I have the 280 and at the store I was told to leave it straight. I was told that if the front comes up too much to angle the spout downward...I have a 40 foot L-shaped pool , nine feet deep. thanks

    I wish I had found this video a month ago. I took my sweeper into Leslie's because it was going around in circles. I brought it home after $95 in parts and the problem still persisted. Once I watched this video, I checked my Thrust Jet adjustment and found it was point up sharply to 1 o'clock. I readjusted to a more central setting and the problem was solved. The total cost SHOULD have been $0.
    Thanks.

    Hey Donn reallly appreciate the video. The high pressure line for mine keeps falling off after about 15min of usage. Any tips on how to clamp it tighter?

    • @diycollaborative
      @diycollaborative  4 месяца назад

      If it attaches like the one in this video, you might try trimming is short piece of the hose off provided you have enough. Then reattach with a new nut. If that doesn’t work, you might check if you have a restrictor disc at the wall connector. If not, you might consider adding one.

    Is the orientation based on the plastic plate with the screws, or the overall orientation of the cleaner itself?

    • @diycollaborative
      @diycollaborative  6 месяцев назад

      I think you are talking about the plastic plate with screws and it’s really the nozzle you are adjusting.

    Does water typically leak from around that area or no? I noticed today that it sprays water ok but a steady leak underneath the jet.

    • @diycollaborative
      @diycollaborative  4 месяца назад

      You may need a thrust jet kit. I think they have a small o-ring or gasket inside the back of the nozzle. Pull the two screws out and check this. Hope this helps.

      Up and to right at 2 pm so it goes clockwise to follow pool jet flow in northern hemisphere- in southern hemisphere it would be counter clockwise similar to how toilets flush !!

    The 280 is heavily biased to go left. Even on full adjustment of the thruster to make it go right it still goes left and only cleans half the pool. Took the junk out and now just use the dolphin. Designed by idiots.
