So glad I watched this. Just bought a vacuum-we’ve only used a Shark and it just doesn’t cut it! Had no idea of several of these steps! So helpful!
I like this type of vacuuming my pool. Thank you!
Thank you !!! Very informative. Appreciate ❤
Well, I definitely was doing this wrong! Thanks for the helpful video!
Thanks Mark, This is great information for guys like me who are new to pool maintenance.
Finally, the video I’ve been needing!!
I appreciate that you are giving these informations. It’s really makes me motivated. Thank you so much.
Tip 1 was news to me. Thank you!
Thank you sir ,for making this video
I been helping my ex-wife with her pool because she couldn't afford his services
So I just wanted to thank you for helping us out sir
Pool looks amazing 🤩
i wanna say thank you very much i learnt alot on this video and i want more from you about the pool
thank you so much explaining clearly
Thank you sir I just learned I needed a vacuum plate, just ordered the plate before ordering another rover!
Excellent tips! Thank you!
So helpful, thank you.
thank you for the video, I was doing everything wrong
Great video, love what you’re doing.
Excellent video - One suggestion - back off on the main drain suction to direct more to the skimmer-
Never heard of a vacuum plate. Glad to know now.
Terimakasih mark.Cukup membantu saya dalam membersihkan kolam renang.
thanks for sharing! like112
Im in south carolina and i never seen or heard of the vacume plate.
Excellent video! I bought a new house with an in ground pool and whenever I try to vacuum, the pump loses prime (it makes a different sound and the glass gets empty). I worked around it by half opening the valve of the drain which is on the floor of the pool in the deep end, (which is on the same system as the skimmer - setting on filter and NOT waste) but I am obviously not getting optimal suction for vacuuming the pool. I never thought of filling the pipe with water before vacuuming. From now on I will do as you said and have 100% suction :) And yes I have subscribed!
Thanks!
Thank you very much and thanks for watching.
Love the video. Can you do a video on how to install a sheer descent waterfall blade. If the plumbing for the pool has been done once I buy the correct hose to connect to everything to waterblade is there any other adjustments that need to be made. This is for an inground pool. Thanks. Would appreciate any help you can offer. I already know how to build the brick fountain just want to make sure I'm not missing any steps on installing waterfall. Also not sure which way to turn water valve.
Most kits will have instructions for hook up. A sheer descent or any water feature will vary depending on size of pump, the plumbing size and the amount of flow needed for the water feature you have. You can also check out the manufacturer’s specs for that particular water feature. Hopefully this will help. Thanks for watching.
Love your vid! Why do I get air in my pump when I use a vacuum plate every time but not when I plug directly into the skimmer?
Make sure you put the stationary end of the vacuum hose on the vacuum plate, if you hook up the swivel end of the hose on the plate you will suck air. If you are hooking the hose up properly then you need to check the cuff on the hose, if the cuff is loose, cracked or the vacuum plate is cracked then you can also suck air. Thanks for watching.
I still wanna learn more
#4 is me. Never heard of #5, but it sounds messy.
Thank you! Bought our house 4 years ago, so still somewhat new to pool maintenance.
I have a sand filter and have always set to backwash. I didn't realize I could vacuum set to filter.
Is one setting preferred over the other?
Using backwash means I have to stop periodically for the water level to reset -- even though I keep the water hose running at max while I vacuum.
Never vacuum in the backwash position. Always vacuum in the filter position, unless the pool is extremely dirty or algae infested, then vacuum to waste. If you vacuum to waste you will have to add water to the pool. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for providing this video. Where can I find the link to your Patreon page? (Edit) I found you.
Hi Mark, very informative video, it’s good when you learn something, it’s why we are here right, so thank you. Ok so the reason why I am here is because I made one of the mistakes highlighted in your video, and I didn’t use the skimmer plate… I just went right in with the end of the hose into the intake… my concern is now, as I was vacuuming quite a bit of debris which I followed up with backwashing, could I have done some damage to the filter or added debris to the sand that is now contaminating it. I’m probably overthinking but I would like to get confirmation from an expert. I will be using the skimmer plate in the future!
If you clean out your pump housing basket, backwash and rinse the filter you will be fine. Thanks for watching.
@@HallmarkPoolSupplies thank you 🙏🏼
@@HallmarkPoolSupplies another tip / step re maintaining a pool learnt. 🙏🏼
In your sand getting into your pool video, you said you could tell if sand was getting into your pool by the return jets or if you backwash it and sand is in the backwash pipe.
QUESTION:
My question that has been bugging me is how would having sand in your backwash pipe tell you that you had sand getting into your pool from your filter. The video made it sound like if you have sand in your backwash pipe that is an indication you have a broken lateral. Please explain this so we will know because I have dand getting in my pool but I have no idea what that has to do with my backwash pipe. Please Explain
Thnkx
When in filter or backwash the water goes through the lateral assembly. You should not have sand going into the pool or coming out of the backwash line. If you recently changed sand and you put to much sand in the filter and you backwash, sand can come out of the backwash line, eventually the sand will self level. If you have or have not changed sand and sand is going into the pool you may want to check your lateral assembly for damage. If the lateral assembly is damaged backwashing the filter will not put sand in the backwash line. If the backwash line itself is cracked or damaged underground, when you backwash sand and dirt can wash the ground out around the pipe. Thanks for watching.
Best videos on RUclips, Thank you for taking the time to make them
Do you have any recommendations on the best cordless pool vacuum for algae?
I do know maytronics who makes dolphin cleaners have cordless units. I like plug in because they have constant power and are more powerful. If you need help l do sell these cleaners. If you would like to email your contact info l will be glad to help. Thanks for watching.
I want to know what that hedge is in the background, lol. I need it!
Wax Myrtles, thanks for watching.
@@HallmarkPoolSupplies Thank you!
Also, be sure you buy a vacuum head with a brush if you are trying to vacuum algae. Made the mistake of getting one without and was a total waste of money.
as a female doing this job is interesting and please help me learn on how to go about the pool your video is interesting
I have been cleaning my own pool for a while now. I was forced to learn after being ripped off by several pool cleaning companies in my area. It has definitely been a learning experience but has overall been rewarding. Once cleaned and balanced believe me, it is easier to maintain and prevent than to slack off and have to treat and restore.
As a female pool owner, I have thought about posting my own videos. Maybe I should now. I recently had to install my own pump motor after my home warranty company kept stalling to find a repair person.
What about a leaf trap so you don’t have to worry about clogging the skimmer line?
That is what the basket is used for, thanks for watching.
I have always connected my hose to the vacuum port on the wall of the pool, this seems to be a strong suction when fully opened ?
Some pools have vacuum lines and do not use vacuum plates, be careful not to clog. If you use a vacuum plate you can vacuum out of the skimmer. If you shut down other suction lines you will have just as much suction vacuuming from the skimmer. Thanks for watching.
Some inground pool installers do not install a vac port in the pool wall. It seems to be getting done less and less, probably to cut costs and increase profits. My pool also has a vac port, and I use it often, but if we have a storm with wind, and I get a lot of debris in my pool, I’ll vacuum exactly like the video instruction to keep debris out of my vacuum line. I have a Polaris atlas, and it vacuums everything, and doesn’t know what will go through the vacuum line. This saves pool equipment. Best of luck to you.
I just watched another vacuuming video that said to use your backwash mode to clear out debris but remove the filter grids first. Now your sayknv not to vacuum in the backwash serting. I dont have a waste setting on my filter. Why cabt i do this?
When vacuuming your pool you will be in the filter position for normal cleaning. Backwash your filter if needed when you are done. If your pool is extremely dirty or algae infested then you will vacuum in the waste position. When vacuuming in waste you will have to add water to the pool. If you do not have a waste position then you will have to vacuum in filter unless you have a drain position. Drain and waste are the same. If you have a drain position then you will also have to add water to the pool. Thanks for watching.
Dumb question. I have a kit I bought but there was no vacuum plate. In addition my skimmer has the handle to pull it out, so I don’t know if a plate would fit on it. What else can I do?
Most skimmer baskets have handles, if you get the right vacuum plate for your skimmer it will work. If you would like to email a picture of your skimmer l will be glad to help. Thanks for watching.
Can I vacuum with my sand filter in the “bypass” position? I just opened my pool and my sand filter’s outer shell/egg cracked. It’s 2 weeks before a new filter can be installed and I still need to vacuum my pool and don’t want the debris sitting in it for the next two weeks.
Yes, you can vacuum to waste and bypass the filter but you will have to add water to the pool. When you are done vacuuming you can put the filter in the recirculate position. In recirculate you are not filtering the water but you can at least move the water in the pool until the new filter is installed. Thanks for watching.
@@HallmarkPoolSupplies okay, thank you so much!
I watched another video on matching a patch on a liner . I am looking for a piece of Tara port royal and you said you have warehouses of them. I paid to subscribe to this and got no reply?
I have tried to contact you through patreon several times. I do have the liner patches you want. If you can email me with your contact info l will be glad to help. My email is on my RUclips channel. Thanks for watching.
I have a colmans above groundpool. It didnt come with a skimmer. How do i backwash the filter . I have the hose but dont know where to hook it up. Anyone out there could help me
If you don’t have a skimmer then you will have an outlet on the side of the pool which is your suction outlet. Your hose will go from the suction outlet directly to the suction side of the pump. The hose on top of the pump goes to the multiport of the filter if you have a sand filter. The return outlet on the multiport has a hose that will go to the return on the pool (this is the pressure line). You should have instructions with your pool that will show how to hook up everything. You can also contact Coleman and talk to customer support for help. Thanks for watching.
I just wanted to see how you roll your hose up lol
The owner of this pool has never vacuumed manually, they have robot vacuums for sure
ive had an inground pool for 8 years. how did i never know that one end of the hose was swivel, and one is stationary lol.
Very helpful. My robot is in the shop
Do you hire a pool guy Sir?
Sometimes, thanks for watching.
That pool is too nice to be a vinyl liner pool
The pool in the video is a vinyl liner pool, it was just custom built. Thanks for watching.
How about us gals...not all guys lol. Thanks
Very obvious mistakes that only take a little thinking to avoid doing that....are people really that dumb to make those mistakes?
Just get a battery powered pool cleaner or stay in the Stone age.
You can’t do that if you clean pools for a living. Robots are great but take way too long for us pool companies.
A Wowvacpro isn't a robot cleaner?
@@peterfreeman7197gotcha, looks nice.
Had two battery powered, and they did not last long, nor did they clean the whole pool, before dying.
@hm2nite Bad luck dude. Ours go on and on. What did you have?
Thanks!
Thank you very much and thanks for watching.
