Finally some instruction that makes sense for seniors. I’m 70 and just want to play nine holes and not feel like I’ve been digging ditches for eight hours. Thanks Andrew.
What's wrong with digging ditches. I play off 8.3, dig plenty of ditches. My 5th parallel drill with accentuated muscle fibre level one with perfectly-aligned Vees was a game changer for me. Send your speed home!
Your instruction is unique and transformational. I have been playing golf for 62 years since age 8. This is the best instruction I have seen in my lifetime. Thank you Andrew.
Great drill @ 12:40 all 3 drills w th; " 5th PARALLEL DRILL" Very good, Excellent even. Thanx Andrew 4 sharing. U r exceptional . Im an instructor as well, n ur videos are Great . Well said, well presentented, to th point, professional, n should be watched again n again.
I've tried many tutorials and I must say yours has been one of the best. You have a true talent for putting words which are static into motion that makes the swing come alive. Thank you!
Dear Andrew. Your instruction has improved my ball striking immeasurably. PS by recently changing my grip routine by placing the club across the MIDDLE joints of my fingers (lead hand only) I get a stronger grip immediately and automatically. I no longer let the club slip at impact and compress the ball. Added beacoup straight yards. 🔥.
I'm 76 and have really started to slow down. This has really helped. I'm getting more distant with a lot less effort. I'm a big fan of gain without pain. Thanks Andrew
I'm 71 and recovering from a stroke. Had played golf for over 25 years before health issues, can't wait to improve my game with the help of your great tips. Keep them coming ,Thanks
I'm 76 years and have been playing since I was 12. I'm pretty good still but Andrew's videos have change my game and how far I hit the ball. I typically hit a drive around 220 with a slight fade. I now hit a draw can hit my drives 240 all the time and when all the stars aline I've hit 260-270 drives. I'm in shock at how far I can hit it now!!
I just found your video - great information! I'm now 57 years old and 4 years experience. I've taken lessons and watched videos to learn golf. I love the way you break this down!! Thank you, sir. I will look for more of your videos.
I've been trying to get my Swing back after a 15 year layoff. I was pretty good. Back in the day. I got so fed up. I quit. Now I've found my interest in golf again. But pretty much all my life. I picked the ball without any divets. I've been trying to move my hips. I can barely hit the ball. I just happened to catch your channel. I've been using a half swing. I remember when I was good. I used to hit golf balls and in almost a putting stance and fired the ball with your L to L hitchhiker method. I'm going out right now and get my Swing back! Thanks so much for the video. Hopefully it will work. Forget my hips and start hopefully get it straightened out.
It is apparent that you used the video I sent you as the basis for this session, since it addresses each and every bad swing habit my video showed I have. This provides very direct and detailed instruction that I need. I will save it for when I can get back to the range. Thanks, Andrew!
Thanks for this and your other videos. Transformed my game. I hadn't realised what a handle dragger I was. So much simpler to use the hands and arms more. I've been playing 60 years and never struck the ball so well!
Awesome to hear! Thanks for letting me and my subscribers know that allowing your arms to swing and your wrists to articulate is transformative. The body simply supports that motion. Lots of great years of golf ahead!!! A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻👊🏻
Great video and easy to follow instructions. 64yrs old high handicapper & play once weekly. 2024 was supposed to be the year my game was supposed to go from good to great but unfortunately it has gone below average performance now. I bought latest technology new golf clubs, expensive 5 layer golf balls however my biggest single mistake has been watching far too many golf tutorial videos on RUclips to the extent you could call ‘addiction’. I try to hit like those pros but don’t have the body fitness (or skills) to execute those shots & end up with a very sore body including ribs climbing on each other etc. i am now struggling with fairway shots chunking fat & digging turf before the ball. This video may just perform the magic for me and can’t wait to hit the driving range soon..& enjoy playing golf again in my retirement rather than worrying about my anger management…lol Golf is a cruel game & I hate playing bad golf as I am very competitive. Thanks mate!!!!
Relax your forearms. Keep your back to the target as you transition - and allow your arms to swing freely. You’re goingto feel like your arms are pulling g your body through the shot! There’s an easier way! Get after it! Best. Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
When you "actuate" the wrists and "sling" the wrists, the ball can go anywhere, especially when you turn the hands over, which is a very difficult procedure to pull off. You do have to stabilise the face of the club, so as it is square at impact. Stabilising the face of the golf club is a much easier thing to do than trying to sling the golf club and turning the hands over. Try teaching someone who's just retired from working and is taking up golf. I wish you all the best with that one. You can easily square the face at strike simply by addressing the ball from a closed position. That's simply keeping your right shoulder well back at address and dropping the club down. I can assure you, you will never slice the ball again.
Actuating the wrists and slinging the club can of course be overdone! I’m prescribing a pill here, not the whole bottle. But twisting it to fit a particular narrative isn’t helpful either. I never advocated for turning the hands over or rolling the wrists, which is obviously disastrous. The release pattern should match the golfer’s grip and natural tendencies-it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. My fast-speed elite players and slower, often older students have different needs, and it’s my job to meet them where they are to help them enjoy the game more. The ultimate goal is to lower scores and handicaps, as shown by the testimonials on my website. Whether it’s an 18 handicap dropping to 9 in 8 weeks or a 6 handicap improving to 1 in 6 months, that’s what I aim for. The first golfer benefited from what I demonstrate in this video, while the second, who had an extremely strong grip, was struggling with a hook until I taught him to release his speed into lead wrist extension and limit forearm rotation. Now, he’s the best junior on his high school team and hits 295 yard fades all day long! Different strokes for different folks! For most, a draw release pattern is a breath of fresh air-more distance with less effort and strain on the body. (And it seems like a few people who watched this video agree with me!) For some, a pull fade release pattern is the way to go. Stabilizing the face doesn’t mean ignoring the wrists. Effective coaching adapts to individual abilities, especially for those who struggle to transfer energy from the ground to the clubhead, like many who enjoyed this video. The retiree you mentioned would benefit from a more personalized approach, not rigid techniques. I would keep an open mind with no pre-conceived notions/methods and find what works best for him!! A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf AMEN, Brother Andrew. You have nailed what a good coach does whether it's golf, skiing, tennis or any other sport. Just found your channel and will practice and play today. I will try to remember to submit my after-action report.
Of course all swings are different but when I started slinging the head of the club and trusting my swing, I hit the ball straighter and further. It was scary at first but spending some time on the range certainly helps.
The 1980s with the lag photo screwed me up for years. I was a handle dragger forward n thought the release as u describe was flipping. Strong grip helped me not slice but forced my hip n body to be more active. All this is starting to make sense now. I think doing these drills everyday will help change my muscle memory to this style. Sometimes i wonder if the direction in the 80s was a marketing ploy to get amateurs to buy gadgets n clubs ....ty Andrew
I was a body swinger for years and a pretty good player, mid single digits. But I am now 70 years old and my body just can't do what it used to. I am trying to be more of an arm swinger ( I love your videos), but my old swing occasionally creeps back in and I will swing right over the top. My main issue with being an arm swinger is that I tend to lunge at the ball, get ahead of it and block shots to the right. I have found a feel that has worked for me to some extent. I swing with my arms but feel like I am leading with the right elbow. This has helped to stop the over the top move, my body is following my arms and it helps me stay behind the ball especially with the driver. But it is still a work in progress. When one swings a certain way for 40+ years, it is difficult to change, but I am working on it.
@@for2lo . My issue is that when I try to lead with my arms and try to slot the club, I tend to lunge at the ball and my head goes forward and I come over the top, and steep. Part of this is tension. This becomes a huge problem with the driver with pure slices or push fades or I will flip my hands and hit a dead pull. I have been experimenting. I now set up with both my elbows tucked in against the sides of my body. Elbows down. On the backswing, I try to keep the handle in front of me as long as possible and on the downswing I "feel" like my right elbow leads my arms. It feels like my right elbow gets way in front of my hands, but in reality it does not. What this does is shallow the club a bit, stops the lunging and keeps me much more centered with irons and my head stays behind the ball on longer clubs. I have not mastered it yet as my old swing will occasionally rear its ugly head, but I am working on it. When I get that feel right, my shots are pretty solid.
Steve, if there’s one thing I’ve learned giving over 30,000 golf lessons. It’s that there is no right or right/wrong FEEL. Only the feel that works best for your student! Keep up the great work and thanks for watching! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Thanks Andrew. Last year everyone was making fun of me as I was setting up a little closed so I could get my right hip back to get me in a position to start my downswing with the arms and not my shoulders. To help get the arms more active on the way down I also focus a little on separating my left arm from my chest when my back is to the target. These drills certainly help w/ the proper sequencing and SPEED.
Andrew. Thanks so much for these drills which make complete sense. re the closure drill and playing with this stance.Should the shoulders be parallel to target but the stance closed ? When I have tried this in a net the strike is so much purer for me. Thanks so much Andrew
Hi Matt, that’s correct! I’m okay with being a little bit right with your shoulder alignment if it’s a push draw you’re looking for! But you don’t want to get too closed! The goal is to create depth at the top and the closed lower body set up helps that immensely! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Thanks Andrew.Your reply is really appreciated again.Great stuff. I am somewhat in the doldrums woth my game as I am a decent 6 handicapper but cant get consistency presenly with my game. I have a decent strong grip too so will experiment playing like this to facilitate all the benefits you mention. Thanks again Andrew 👍👍👍
I have been seeing more and more video's talking about NOT trying to copy tour swings due to the physical limitations of your everyday recreational golfer. In my personal experience, the notion or concept of "swing the arms and let the body respond" is significantly more doable for the majority of us and it us very effective as well as body-friendly. Much less strain on the lower back especially. Jim Flick taught this method and I feel he is one if the greatest teachers if all time who is mostly forgotten now. Truly enjoyed your video Andrew, as well as the message conveyed.
GREAT video!! I am 64 and had fusion so my back swing about like Rahms. This should help a lot! Follow up question. I would love that controlled draw you spoke of for all clubs. Same basic slightly closed for all clubs?
Thank you! Correct, but it’s important to note that for every degree you hit up on the ball (or less down!). The dynamic plane shifts a little further left! In other words you have to move your ‘swing direction’ further right as you move through to the longer clubs IF you want to maintain a draw path! Hope that helps. Best, A. 🙏🏻
I feel like a broken record, Coach Andrew is an awesome coach. I’ve been a PGA Golf Professional / instructor for almost 30 years and I would go to Andrew if I could. Fantastic instructor.
Brad, it’s always good to hear from you, and as always I appreciate your praise for my Instruction. It means a great deal coming from a teaching veteran like yourself! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Great video really well explained. I think we can tie ourselves in knots trying to clear the hips and get the body front on to the target when it will happen naturally with a good grip pressure, good arm speed and momentum. Thanks for the video.
So true!! Obsession with the pelvis with little or no attention to the wrists and arms is problematic! Educate the wrists and arms then support with proper footwork and ground mechanics! Let common sense prevail! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Im a 90’s player with body vs arm swing. I tried your arm lead technique and I shot 85, 85, 83 3 days in a row!!!! 🎉 Wow!!! Tks for the tips. Irons are great but still struggle with the driver on occasion unfortunately.
Absolutely! I’ve had students actually play with some of these drills. But, I would train these drills with a more lofted club!! They’re not easy to execute initially and will take some practice. You can however use with a longer club once you master them! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I prefer “Aging Athletes” over Old Guys which with exercise, good nutrition and reasonable libation requirements is north of 90yrs in my book!! Get after it!! Coach A. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
I’m very impressed with your teaching technique and drills. I’m having left hip surgery and will be out of action for a while. However, I will be reviewing this video over and over again during my recovery because I am sure it is the best way to go when I come back. I have been one who has got into the culture of firing the hips faster but it has never gotten me more speed. I have been worried that I would not be able to fire my hips after surgery but I see from the video that it’s not going to be a problem. Actually, your videos are very similar to how I started in golf but kinda fell into the trap, for lack of a better words, of too much emphasis on the body. After I come back from the surgery, maybe,I will repost another comment on how your swing thoughts are working out.
Good luck with the surgery. I’m almost 53 and had a full hip replacement last august. What revolution it has been it’s been a light switch moment. I’m back to enjoying golf again with absolutely no restrictions. I average between 110 and 112 clubhead speed now only a 2 or 3 mph drop off from 4 years ago. I actually treated myself to a new driver last week. Good luck with your rehab and new swing again 😊
@@adrianadams6237 Geez, 110. I will take it. A week and a couple of days after, I am feeling pretty good. My PT is impressed. I’m wondering if you’re aware of any “saving” your hip through the downswing and follow through or are you at a point where you don’t think about anymore? Right now I am just happy to not feel bone on bone when bending over to brush my teeth. Originally, I thought it was snapping hip syndrome until the orthopedic PA showed me the X-ray. Thanks for sharing. Other golfers considering hip replacement will appreciate it.
@@JRC2053 Good to hear all is going well. The one time I thought about it was first shot at the range. I hit a knock down wedge and hit the 100 yd board 🤣 Absolutely felt nothing and starting ripping irons. My wedge is back at about 140yds. I’m a 6ft and 115 kgs and quite solid of a build so was anxious about loading on my left side but straight away after first shot I knew had the freedom to swing full again. I waited for 14 weeks after surgery to start back again I didn’t feel the need to rush back and focused on being strong again. Hardest thing for me is finding my driver swing again because I had to change and manipulate it to make it work for so long before the hip surgery.
You diagnosed my problems beautifully….it’s as though you saw a video of my swing…days of frustration are over…amazing that I look forward to practicing
I’m 65 and haven’t played much golf lately. In the past when I have hit it pretty well it has usually been with speed like you are describing it’s what I look forward to working on and I feel sure that it will help my game. Thanks for the info. Look forward to other videos.
I would worry that adding the wrists also can change where the ball goes. I am 65, and normally am the baby in any group I play in on my Friday League. My game is not the same as most seniors. My driver goes 230 yds on soaking wet ground, when it can roll out later I will get the ball out there 245 to 250. I can hit my 8 iron 135 and when I really go after it, it will go up to 150 yds. I do not believe that I am hinging my wrists and I am sure it would really add distance. I am just afraid of the change in where the ball may be going. Currently when playing from 5400 yds I play to a 0 HCP. Making changes are scary.
Yes, I share. L-to-L is part of warm up, along with separate arm drill to stay loose. Will work this pattern of three drills and report back. Thank You!
Just turned 69 and I totally agree, most teachers teach a tour swing but it just impossible for me to do what they are asking us amateurs to do. I’m still flexible but also have had lower back surgery 24 years ago and it gets sore trying to do all the rotation that the tour swing requires. I’ve only been playing for around 13 years and thought that there is more to the arms and wrists in the golf swing, so with that being said I’m on board Andrew. Thanks for an awesome lesson.
Greg! I’ve had back surgery myself so I can relate. Fortunately there are multiple ways to swing a golf club proficiently! It’s simply not a one size fits all! I’m glad that my channel is resonating - Welcome aboard! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I believe that most golfers put the club to high in the palm of the lead hand. Having said that - No one should insist on a particular grip. We all have natural inclinations, and what works best for one golfer might not be ideal for another. If you’re new to the game, it’s essential to find a grip that feels comfortable and natural for you while allowing you to make solid contact with the ball. Experiment with different grips, and focus on what gives you the most control and consistency in your swing. Remember, the goal is to find a grip that helps you play your best, not to force yourself into a style that doesn’t suit your game. Good luck, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
This is brilliant, I’m 67 with arthritis in hands and shoulders, usually I’m in a lot of pain after golf, I’m looking forward to trying this out, hopefully it’ll gain some f the distance I’ve lost over the years. Newly subscribed, and thank you
Thank you! I’m sorry to hear that you have pain after you play golf. Hopefully my drills help alleviate some of that so you can increase your enjoyment of the game. Feel free to check out the other videos on my channel - share with your friends, that could use some help with their game. Welcome aboard! Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Great instruction and you hit my problems right on the nail head. I am 80 years old and still playing in the mid to high 90's. I will try to hit that 5th position more often because I know I am not doing it now. Thanks
Sir you are simply the best teacher I’ve come across. Nobody is close. And I’ve followed probably at least 50 over the years. I just discovered your methodology. Watched a half dozen videos. Already had a tee time booked weeks ago. So went and played with only one range session using some of your ideas. Wow! My swing felt so good. And hit my irons better than I have in years. I can’t thank you enough. Once I’ve worked many range sessions in; I know this is my holy grail. Everything you teach just clicks with me. One quick question. I saw the video you are saying to let the arms ‘fire down( coming down on a escalator)’ first. This move I’m having a very hard time getting the feel. I get you say it comes from the shoulders. Do you have a feel I can compare it to? That’s how I learn. Is the feel as though I had a tennis racket and was going to go to rip a forehand at a ball by my right foot? And again. 🙏 thank you. You saved my game with the concepts of more of a wrist and arm swing!
Thanks for your comment Mark! The goal is to swing through the ball ‘to the finish!’ Keeping your back to the target and allowing your arms to re-position or de-elevate is critical in order to sequence your arm swing with your body motion. Try feeling like your arms are pulling your body through the ball! It’s a feel of course not a real but I’ve found it to be extremely helpful for those that drive their body out in front of their arms. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
55 year old who found your videos and some new optimism about a month ago-they’re kind of contrarian (right now) and great! Hope to get to SC to see you in person in the near future. Thanks!
Glad the videos have helped! Reach out whenever you’re ready and I’ll get you scheduled for a live immersion. Welcome aboard! A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻⬇️ andrewemery.golf@gmail.com
Excellent! As a senior golfer my game has game has been ruined by coaches insisting I use the ‘modern rotary swing’, i.e. stabilise the face, hold off the release and just rotate.
Great video Andrew! Ironically just pulled my back by getting out of my swing sequence, kind of throwing the kitchen sink as I came into the ball! I’m 75 and in the uk. Going to steadily try these 3 drills and see if I can stop twisting my body. Where is the weight in your feet as I tend to loose my balance? Is it on the inside of the feet and towards the heel or toe? KR John😊
Pay attention to if you’re losing balance towards your toes or heels? Most golfers move UP into the ball towards their toes in my experience. If that’s the case - You would do well to lift your toes in your shoes and favor pressure under your ankles and closer to your heels!!! Good luck with your balance! Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Hey there, I worked on your drills, however In the final 5th parallel drill I found myself fading even slicing the ball. Tried correcting with my grip but couldn’t seem to get my ball to draw or even shoot straight. Thank you 🙏🏼 though, as my irons did see more distance.
The fifth parallel is simply allowing the momentum of the club to swing past the hitchhiker! It’s quite probable that you were applying more force unintentionally with your body and spinning open too soon! Try and remain closed as you change direction! Keep at it! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Thanks mate. This video got me back on track and you are so right about the over use of the body to create speed for us thicker old guys. Now I have to work the closer drill to learn to hit a playable draw.
I'm 74 years old and I've lost distance mainly with my longer clubs. I still can hit my wedges pretty good as I practice them a lot. 54 degree: 70 - 80 yards. 50 degree: 85 - yards. Best driver is just over 200 yards. Sometime the driver is only 185 even though I think I hit it well. Most shots are draws. Bad shots are pulls/pull hooks and pushes. Contact with irons is not always good. Tend to try to lift the ball and hit fat or occasionally thin. I'm pretty good hitting my fairway woods off the deck. Part of my problem is pinched nerves are affecting my lead arm (shoulder and hand).
Your ability to hit those numbers with your current limitations is better than impressive! Move the ball back a little with your irons! And, hold your finish in balance. I can’t tell you how many golfers ‘tip’ or fall back as they start down. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment! Coach A. ⛳️🙏🏻🏌️♂️
Finally! You've been watching me. Just turned 71 and you described me to a tee. Off to the range first thing tomorrow. Just found your channel and subscribed. Noticed "NO DIVOT"? My iron (6-9) game is miserable, wedges so-so and 3&7W and 6H pretty good. I love golf (just started again after 20 year second career interfered). I'm looking forward to enjoying golf again. Liked and shared with my buddies. THANK YOU
Thank you Tom, I’m so glad the video resonated. Plenty more videos on my channel that should help both you and your friends create more speed with less effort and injuries!! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Some golfers will rotate earlier and some later! If you have a very strong grip and you’re hitting hooks particularly when you hit the longer clubs e.g. Hybrid, FW & DR I would make sure that your trail hand isn’t too far under the grip!! (too strong!). Getting the trail hand on top gives you permission to release more freely! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Terrific drill lesson and wisdom, personally I think the body thing is / has been a disaster for many average mid to hi handicap golfers, who for the last thirty odd years have had the body/stable club face concept thrown at them, the vast majority of the golfing legends have had free arm swinging motion where the body has responded naturally to the arms/hands. Cheers
I’m approaching 80,i suffer badly from arthritis, dodgy knees and a frozen shoulder, yet I still manage to play 3 times a week and mostly still enjoy the game, however I still want to improve my game and keep looking for advice and hope your tips help, many thanks.
I’m confident that engaging your arms and wrists correctly is going to help you create speed without placing too much stress on your body! Get after it Tony! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
This sounds like you have personally watched me swing. 59 years old. Im gonna try this. Thanks. My distance has dropped probably 15 yds per club. This drill seems like it will free my swing. Been hitting gound before ball too much. Thanks!
Coach, when I keep my back to the target a little longer, I tend to hit the ground before the ball. Do i need to compensate something else? Thanks for a great channel, btw. Br, Joost
You’re likely pinning your lead arm across your chest! Start to extend both arms PAST the golf ball! You’re backing into the ball and allowing your arms to come off your body! So many golfers pull their arms towards them through the ball! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Im new here. 67 and struggling with swing speed. Everything u said is what is happening because my body is not as flexible like it was. Will gove thos a try with my driver as well
Great tips Andrew.Very much appreciated. Will try these. Are these ok to use too for chip shots. Not short ones but say 30yds and out.Guess would get a little more elevation too.
For ‘standard’ shorter pitches (25-30yds) I would use a supported release! Point the club at your lead hip at address and keep it pointing at the lead hip as you pivot the club! You’re leveraging the club as you hinge and un-hinge but you don’t need to re-hinge unless you want a higher pitch! In this case the trail hand works UNDER the handle which keeps the face open! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Wow I just watched this video for the 1st time, I am going to practice these drills and hopefully get a great golf swing going, watching in Caloundra, Queensland Sunshine Coast Australia. Thanks Andrew
Hi, your instructions sound great will give it a try, thanks we are not pro golfers, I a 64 year golfer try to tell that to the golf instructors,I've had.
I am starting to work out with a Medicus weighted iron. It must be 20 years old, but just doing the hitchhike drill is already paying dividends. Thanks for the videos really like your teaching style.
Not to bug you down with my comments, but I’m just putting two into together and realizing how much sense these drills really do make. I used to play racquetball when I was younger and I really could spank it because my wrist were very strong and I could hit a softball 320 feet.
It’s totally dependent on the individual golfer! If you’re a slicer with slower arm speed then this one will hit the spot!! For the golfers that play in the fast lane and struggle with a hook - not so much!! Best, A. 🙏🏻🏌️♂️⛳️
I had to stop playing fir twelve years. Had both hips replaced and back surgerys. I have started playing again and trying to learn how to swing clubs again.
Jerry! Good for you for getting back into golf after what must have been a lot of challenges with your surgeries! You’re likely going to have some mobility issues so surf my channel and start slow. This is excellent advice. I watched another of your videos where you talked about bringing the arms down and it has made a tremendous difference for me. I can’t wait to get out there and try the hitchhiker, the closer, and the fifth parallel. I also really like your teaching style. Thank you!
I swing club in to out and get kind of stuck so I do early extension to hit the ball from having a closed stance like u said. Do u think being closed to target at address will help to go less in to out?
Getting more closed will promote an inside out swing path (out to the right) for a right handed golfer. It will not help promote a less inside out path. Aligning more left and exiting more left will!! A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Brilliant Andrew as always 👍👍 just one question on the hinge, unhinge and re hinge method if I can? Exactly when/where do I unhinge as I’d imagine if I do it too early it’s basically a casting and I’ll hit it fat and scoop? Too late and I’ll thin it? Would really appreciate some advice please 🙏🏻 thanks
I’m not forcing the re-hinge! I’m simply allowing it to take place if that makes sense. Your arms have to move forward before you throw the club out! Practice brushing the grass after the ball first! Those arms have to extend past the ball - that’s critical! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
The arms control the verticals in the golf swing! In the backswing as the body rotates the arms work up! In the downswing it’s critical that the arms work back down (de-elevate) as the body rotates through! Most golfers spin their body in transition and throw the club over the top. By keeping your back to the target longer as you change direction you give your arms time to swing down on a better path with more speed! I hope that helps. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
So since finding your channel, I have hit some of the best precision shots following your right-hand wrist angle and the hitchhiker drill. In 3 out of the first 4 holes, I hit the flag on one and the other 2 were 3 inch tap in's. Two holes later I slammed dunked a 118-yard fairway shot. With the adrenaline flowing, the rest of the round, I sucked. I couldn't get off the T, box with driver or 3 wood, and the rest of my iron shots kept coming up short. Sometimes I know I rushed my swing or miss-clubbed, fat shots, etc All the things you explained in this video, I did wrong. I just couldn't find it after that. Do you have a video of T shots getting back on the horse after falling off?
You got out of your process is all!! Nothing wrong with getting excited about playing well, of hitting great shots but you have to press the delete button and refocus on each ‘individual’ shot! Sounds like you got a little ahead of yourself. Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻

I am looking at photos of a Driver swing sequence from Sir Henry Cotton's 1952 book 'My Swing'. He is swinging exactly as you recommend and teach. Great stuff.
You’ll want to check out this Saturdays video! Old school just the way it should be for the Driver! That’s a great book and Henry Cotton was a wonderful Instructor and of course player! Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I am trying your method but it seems like if you are not rotating through the swing or you’re keeping your shoulders back you end up hitting fat shots. What am I doing wrong?
I only have the 5i & 4i in the i530. I should have ordered the whole set and talked myself out of it because of the low spin. Love the blueprints, incredible feel but not forgiving enough for me with my lack of play so I’m back using my old i525’s!! Lesson learned, my ego was writing checks my body couldn’t cash!! Feel the club head and swing the club head! Driving the body and dragging the grip are the primary reason for moving the hand path out toward the ball too much which can cause shanks. Hit balls with your feet together using the hitch hiker drill to start and build from there! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Thanks John!! Get after it! Best, Coach A. P.S If you’re a hooker, make sure your trail hand isn’t too strong (under the grip!). I see that all the time. Not as much of a problem for the irons but disastrous for the longer clubs/Driver! 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Finally some instruction that makes sense for seniors. I’m 70 and just want to play nine holes and not feel like I’ve been digging ditches for eight hours. Thanks Andrew.

That’s awesome!! 👏

Be patient! This is a swing that will stand the test of time. Wishing you all the best!

The last part never changes!! 🤣🤣🤣
When one swings a certain way for 40+ years, it is difficult to change, but I am working on it.
tell us more about your Work in progrès ! a plenty of us are in your situation ! Good Game ! cheers

Thank you sir!! 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Best, A. 🙏🏻

Wishing you the best for a successful surgery. I look forward to hearing back from you after you have recovered!

Exactly true. I was damaging my body until I learned how to utilize my arms/wrists to get the ball at there.
I had the same problem, the more I fired my lower body. The longer I spend on an ice pack! 🙄🤣
Making changes are scary.
lol Don’t change a darn thing!!! And, stay of RUclips except for short game!!

You’re welcome Oscar! Thanks for checking in. Get after it. Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️
Very clear. But every instructor shows me a different grip. The latest one insisted on the Ben Hogan grip. It’s all so confusing.

Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻

agree with this-most weekend golfers are too stiff and slow to use just the body for speed . The arms and hands generate far more speed and power .
Yes sir!! Your body will catch up with your arms every time! 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Hey there,
I worked on your drills, however In the final 5th parallel drill I found myself fading even slicing the ball.
Keep at it!

What is your opinion of the reverse overlap grip?
Find what works for you! It’s that simple!

Makes lots of sense thank u sur
You’re welcome Graham! Thanks for checking in. Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
When do u turn your both arms over to left side as a hitch hiking in downswing? Timing is the key. I have difficulty doing that. As i do i flip it.

Thanks much. This has been very helpful.
I’m glad to hear that Robert. Welcome aboard! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Cheers
I couldn’t agree more! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Great all-in-one training video! I love the closer drill. Great stuff. What ball position do you recommend for the L to L and closer drills?
Center works great! 👍🏻

Good work. I'm up to try this. Loss of form after surgery, this may be the way back to winning.
Be patient & get after it!!

This sounds like you have personally watched me swing. 59 years old. Im gonna try this. Thanks. My distance has dropped probably 15 yds per club. This drill seems like it will free my swing. Been hitting gound before ball too much. Thanks!
I have a few videos that will help you with compression and low point control on my channel! Thanks for watching. Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Can’t wait to try it! Makes so much sense. Thank you.
You’re welcome sir! Thanks for checking in! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
So do you believe keeping your feet close together will help? Keeps your body not moving that much. Correct? Thanks
It can be helpful for sure but like everything getting narrower can be over done! Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Andrew I am impressed with your teaching methods, just seemed to resonate with me. Flushing the ball❤
Wow, thank you! Glad you’re hitting it better! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Great video, I'm 55 and I just got back 20 yards with my 8 iron !
That’s so awesome!!! Thanks for watching and welcome aboard! Coach A. 👏

It was weird at first but then it started to work and with less struggle and thinking. To the range I go..thanks

Grateful thanks Andrew. That makes great sense and thanks so much !
Great content! Where is your target on the closer drill? Is it that bunker in front of the white yard marker?
Yes sir! That’s where I wanted the ball to finish! A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Wow I just watched this video for the 1st time, I am going to practice these drills and hopefully get a great golf swing going, watching in Caloundra, Queensland Sunshine Coast Australia. Thanks Andrew

2. Before this change I placed the club in the finger roots of my left hand. From there the grip was weak unless I rotated the entire hand.

Very interesting. Will try the drills tomorrow.

I am starting to work out with a Medicus weighted iron. It must be 20 years old, but just doing the hitchhike drill is already paying dividends. Thanks for the videos really like your teaching style.
I have one too! Old school, the way it should be! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
I actually have the iron and the driver. Do you recommend the same drill with the driver version? Thanks again I’ll look for your response.
Not to bug you down with my comments, but I’m just putting two into together and realizing how much sense these drills really do make. I used to play racquetball when I was younger and I really could spank it because my wrist were very strong and I could hit a softball 320 feet.
Wrists and arms produce the majority of flash speed in the golf swing. Makes total sense to me! ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Excellent. Thank you for sharing this knowledge. 😎
Glad it was helpful Paul! Best, Coach A. 🙏🏻🏌️♂️⛳️
Hi. So , seems like playing with your training foot back all the time would be a good idea. Do you agree? Thanks. Ralph G
It’s totally dependent on the individual golfer! If you’re a slicer with slower arm speed then this one will hit the spot!! For the golfers that play in the fast lane and struggle with a hook - not so much!!
Best, A. 🙏🏻🏌️♂️⛳️
Andrew thanks for sharing your wisdom

I had to stop playing fir twelve years. Had both hips replaced and back surgerys. I have started playing again and trying to learn how to swing clubs again.
Jerry! Good for you for getting back into golf after what must have been a lot of challenges with your surgeries! You’re likely going to have some mobility issues so surf my channel and start slow.

Hey coach do you have a video on a pre-round routine that gets in the right mindset not to try and kill the ball?
This is the best drill in golf for rhythm in my book! I use it all the time when I practice and prepare for a round! Hope it helps! Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻⬇️

@@AndrewEmeryGolf thx. I will try a more open stance. Hope that helps. Again appreciate your help and great content.

@@AndrewEmeryGolfthanks so much. Range here I come 👍🥇🏌️♂️
I'm lookinh for an explanation of what deelevate means
Any explanation would be helpful.

Rick, give this drill a try!

Andrew going from i525 to Blueprint S to i530 now? :-) Like the idea of feeling the speed when going for the 5th parallel.
Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Have been playing golf for 35 years and all of a sudden just recently started hitting shanks. Driving me crazy!
