I started with a simple swing with the body following the arms at age 50 . Got down to a handicap of five in four years. Then, now a legend in my own mind I thought I would improve and added just about every move I’d seen on RUclips and my handicap blew out to 12 . Have realised how stupid I have been and inspired by your posts am now swinging the club so simply, almost gently and elegantly, feeling the club head move through the ball. - Not AT the ball. Thank you so much Andrew. Overnight you have rescued me.
I have Henry Cotton's 1952 book 'My Swing'. You brought those images of his swing alive. I am 70 and have played golf with my hands and arms all my life. This is great instruction.
After over40 years watching golf instruction on many formats, this is first detailed easy to understand overview of the golf swing…Well Done , will be watching for more words of wisdom in the future…..Cheers from Australia
Yes, 'Aging Athlete' -- that is how I approach it (early 70s). Thank You! Since starting this channel have incorporated the drills into my practice sessions and my pre-round warm ups -- now longer than ever, more consistent, and most important injury free. My morning starts with 50 pushups, then 20 full squats (as best as knees will do), then a lot of stretching using body weight. L-to-L is my starting practice with the yellow ball -- now will make this three piece drill as part of it also. My range is my gym. Thank You!
Thanks for this drill Andrew! You have a great teaching style and this is one of my favourite videos of yours. I have an old video from Alex Mercer, who you may have heard of. He was once the golf pro from Royal Sydney and taught Steve Elkington as a junior. Alex teaches a similar drill using first wrists, then elbows and onto the full swing, but you have explained it much better for me than that old VHS tape. Well done, and I am now using your drill with my Orange Whip and look forward to some lasting improvements in my swing. I've been too focussed on body positions for too long, and going backwards.
Sir, I watched one of your videos, went out today and shot 9 over with one birdie. Hundreds of hours of videos, money on lessons, and only after loosening my grip and doing your drills did I finally figure it out. Thank you.
Andrew, I moved to Scottsdale from Seattle and have been a PGA golf professional for almost 30 years, I think you’re a fantastic coach, if you ever come to Scottsdale please look me up, I’d love to get out and play with you. Great work & incredible coaching. 🙏🙏🙏
What great lesson. I’ve been following some science/data guys recently who are very good but then had a shocker of a round last week thinking about 3 things at the same time & inevitably forgetting the more important 4th. So is refreshing to watch your video & remind myself that at almost 65 years i should keep it simple. Would be great to complement this with nuances between club types, eg 9 iron vs wood/driver. Thx so much for your wisdom 😊
It’s the least I can do for those that have taken the time out of their day to watch my videos and comment Bob!! Very blessed to be able to help my subscribers through my channel. Thank you! 🙏🏻 🏌️♂️⛳️
The artistry is in the wrists for sure! That’s where the release patterns live! Start there and then support with the arm swing and if your body allows - respond dynamically by using the ground! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Greg, you’ve got me in your pocket mate! Have a look through the videos and you’ll see a pattern that will help you immensely! Also, consider online coaching. Compared with the agony of playing awful golf. It’s truly worth the investment of time and $! Wishing you the best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
The lead leg doesn’t control the release, that’s the job of the arms and wrists. However, once you’ve developed a release - using the lead leg as a brake will force multiply the speed of the release like snapping a towel!! Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Perfect! I have been thinking of a drill I could use to warm up over the last couple of days. Then you give me exactly what I needed. Just found your channel a few days ago and subbed. I was a 5 index but a vehicle accident sidelined me. Just started again after a 5+ year layoff. At 70 I was having trouble finding a swing that I could actually do and not what I used to be able to do. 🤣 My road to recovery has just been greatly improved. Thanks much!
Hi Andrew, firstly I’m so glad that I came across your channel, I messaged you after your senior golfer video, and have subsequently tried out the swing y were demonstrating. I am delighted to say it massively reduces the stress on my body, and therefore reduces the pain. One question I have, is I’m releasing the club now, no more chicken wings, which is awesome, however I seem to be pulling my shots slightly, would you recommend putting the ball back in my stance a little? Thank you so much for your videos.
It really depends! If the ball was too far forward of center then absolutely. Playing the ball back will increase your AOA effectively shifting your swing direction more inside out! If the ball position is okay try keeping your back to the target longer in transition! Pulls are very often caused by a transition spin. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Update: These drills are getting me to keeping the right shoulder from coming over the top, finally starting to 'feel' the right shoulder coming from under the left shoulder -- a ways to go. Note: today at the range a couple of guys were watching my warm up and then my swing with good results (not an everyday thing) and asked my instructor and told them, 'YT Andrew Emery' -- so you may get some new viewers soon.
Andrew. I waited before I replied about your golf techniques. I have to say, your teaching is excellent. Your drills work and more than anything, you get the message across so simplistically. I tip my hat to you my friend..I'm 71 and this stuff works hands down❤
I’m so glad that my channel is meeting you “where you are!” I’m all for improving and making changes but it doesn’t need to be complicated!! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
great video as always! when i use momentum to set the clubin the backswing it feels like my left wrist cups. is that normal? it feels the same as if i held the club out in front of me and just hinged the club up. thanks!!
Maintain your grip pressure between the grip and the last two fingers of the left hand at the top. Losing grip integrity is often an issue. Most golfer lack the wrist mobility to lever the club in a flat position. It is absolutely NOT necessary to be in a bowed or flexes position at the top with the lead wrist! You should have ‘some’ lead wrist extension (cupping ) at address. Try and maintain that same extension at the top! Over extending (cupping) will open the club face too much. Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
PS Andrew I recently switched to 40 gram clubshafts and my distance and accuracy improved. Senior golfer aged 70. Can you do a segment on equipment, shaft weights etc and importance of this?
After struggling for a couple years to hit the ball I stumbled upon La Danse de Golf. Then I stumbled upon your videos. A perfect storm. Allowing the feet to move, light grip, slinging the club. After a couple rounds, this week was the first time in memory I didn't have any ugly mishits. Not every shot was straight (except my driver) and not every one went the distance I wanted. But, the foundation is there to improve those outcomes. Thank you so, so much!
My dominant hand like so many is my right! Which is why I work hard to use my left hand when playing golf so the right doesn’t over dominate! Best, Coach A. 🙏🏻
It’s a Momentum Drill as demonstrated in the video. You can progress through as shown or start with the full swing. It helps you sequence your wrists, arms and body dynamically. Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Touché! After 3 million views and nearly 25k comments in 18 months, someone finally figured it out! I’m primarily a driller because my golf game is under major reconstruction!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Likewise Paul! Really enjoying coaching you online! ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
The simplest explanation of the swing I've ever heard! One question, though. Does the lead leg brake control the swing release, or is that separate?
The lead leg doesn’t control the release, that’s the job of the arms and wrists. However, once you’ve developed a release - using the lead leg as a brake will force multiply the speed of the release like snapping a towel!! Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
