      A question I have, for senior swings and it is hard to telll, how much are you turning your chest/ torso in both the backswing and follow through? I tend to use all arms but am incorporating more rotation but it doesn’t appear you do. If you (yourself as I appreciate your teaching) have other videos on swing thoughts?
      Thank you.

    Hi Lawrie, so nice of you to distill the swing into such an understandable few moves. I do think it's the way to go--I'm going on 77 and while I'm in good shape for my age I can't possibly do what I see on tv. One question, can you explain what you mean by moving the handle past the ball? Is that a conscious move in the downswing and if so wouldn't that leave the face too open??

    • @GolfUniversity
      @GolfUniversity  Год назад +1

      Thanks Rick and good question - first of all try it and see how you go - we like you to be your best teacher - but the main reason for the handle is more about getting through to the top of the swing as opposed to hitting the ball - see what works for you and share your feedback - we'd love to hear what happens for you.

    • @rickrappaport5216
      @rickrappaport5216 Год назад

      Tried it and mind to body if I consciously tried to make the handle go horizontally past the ball I faded or sliced it. Best for any repeatable swing is for me not to consciously "try" at any part of the swing. I can get the handle pointed at the ball, basic zip code, and I turn. If I just onlyi think about getting to the finish I might be better off. One thing I noticed from watching replay/stop video/start video of Solheim Cup players--at impact they are riveted on the ball with their eyes or at least their head position. So it feels difficult to be riveted on the ball and yet mind to body tell your body not to stop until the real finish. Anyway, what's your take?@@GolfUniversity

    OMG! I can't wait to try this out! I have literally been in tears because of my lack of distance.(There's no crying in GOLF!) I have been self taught and just had my first two lessons at 67, last month... I still have NOT picked up any additional yardage on my drives or fairway woods. I have been stretching and trying to increase my flexibility, but lifting sleeping grandchildren, etc has taken a toll on my lower back and I know I am afraid at times that am going to hear that ratchet sound no matter how well I've warmed up. I didn't really pick up a club until my late forties. My problem I've felt was I have NEVER had that "snap" at the bottom of my swing that others have. I always thought it was a secret and honestly, even tho' I'd excitely share EVERYTHING I learned with anyone...I thought the reverse was not true. So I was ready to give up something I really love because I just couldn't score well. It hurts to hit 3 really solid shots(for me) and have my husband say, "Wow, it's too bad you are still out and can't get on in regulation." Since I play with mostly men, (I am the only woman on my husband's municipal league, so I am a decisive player, no slow play) they will always say, encouraging things like, "Your short game is really good". And I know they enjoy my company as much as I enjoy theirs, but when all is said and done, "I want to score better."
    Sorry, this is so long, but I thought you should know, even a year after you posted this video...I saw it and it encouraged me. I can't wait to try it. And I wanted to say, "Thank you."😉

I could barely hit the ball and was exhausted after 9 holes. I've adopted your swing ideas and I'm loving it. I'm not back to where I was 10 years ago, but I'm competitive, not fatigued, and I'm playing 18 hole rounds. You have saved my golfing life.

    Follow up:
    I went out to the golf range yesterday and for the first time I did a routine of taking a few half swings from half way back to half way though before in repeatable motions before addressing the ball. And what a difference!!! Not trying to hit the ball, but rather, concentrating on start to finish with a hinge at top (wherever that was) to my finish, and basically having the ball just in the way of the golf motion. Just the sound of contact on the ball was so different, quiet and smooth with the ball bouncing off the club in height and distance. I still chunked and hit the ball thin but the consistency (which I never had) was starting to develop. I did not try to swing for distance, just start to finish. Without sounding like a fabricated endorsement, this was the single best advice I've had for my swing.

    This is my second comment after developing this swing using this method. I played today at Highland Oaks RTJ club, in Dothan Alabama USA. I was able to hit 13 of 18 greens in regulation, with many greens being elevated or below elevation. Hitting another three greens and the golf ball rolling off onto the fringe, and in one instance rolling off and back down the hill thirty yards. After settling down putting I was able to keep my score at one over par the last 12 holes. The greens were 13 on the meter and lightning-fast so the first six greens I three-putted four greens. The tee to green improvements using this method as a senior golfer is awesome. Early recognition of green speeds, grass types, and putting stroke variations are what will improve my score. The claw grip, Phil Michelsen's style, has proven that keeping the ball online is imperative. The last twelve holes with a one-over-par are proof of that, it seems to take the right hand out of the equation. Golf is fun again. Thanks and blessings to all of your staff.

    Hello, just watched your video on the swing for seniors. It makes a lot of sense. I’m a 68 year old senior that struggles with making fat shots, going to try what you were talking about in this video, but with that being said was wondering if you have any advice or drills to stop hitting fat shots? TIA!!

    The concept of swinging thru and letting the ball get in the way us awesome! It's much simpler to understand than hitting down on the ball with a club that has to swing on an arch. Thanks for giving me a new drill !!

    Excellent advice for senior golfers like me (aged 71 and nowhere near as fit/flexible as I'd like to be). So much golfing content on the net is only applicable to people who are fortunate enough to be able to (try to) mimic the swing of pro/top level golfers.

    I started playing golf again when i retired a couple years ago. I am now almost 61. I am one of those people who study the heck out of things so i know a lot but putting it to work is difficult. I love your explanation of the golf swing is NOT about hitting the ball as the target, but finishing a nice balanced swing and the ball gets in the way. When i remember this i hit pretty good shots. I started with a 25 handicap about two years ago and now i am at 15, mostly by things like this advice. Whenever i forget i usually try to kill the ball and wind up over the top steep downswing and very left dead pull shots. Thanks for the simple explanation. I am going to introduce this to my wife tomorrow when we go play for the first time together.

    I got more out of this simple system than any other video that I’ve seen over the past 5 years. I find that so many of us are screwing ourselves into the ground trying to make a pro type of turn that we lost track of the essential club route. IT WORKS! Thanks very much for that.
