    I’m new to your channel but watched this as a senior golfer and started to raise my left heel. Awesome! Felt so much easier to swing not hit and drove the ball really well today the first time of doing this. It also improved my tempo with my irons so a result all round. Thank you so much for this and I look forward to watching more of your channel. Neil

    Thank you Phillip for a valuable, easy to follow very helpful video.
    I like your relaxed, friendly way of coaching & also your thoughtful, realistic comments to subscribers comments.
    I have a copy of Positive Impact Golf & find it helpful.
    Will the new book contain mainly new information or is it an update of your tried & tested approach?
    When is it to be published & how much will it cost?
    Your brother's advice helped me play golf to suit my ability ,fitness & health.
    Many other professional teaching golfers failed miserably when they wanted me to try & play in a similar way to young professional golfers.
    I was a primary school teacher who varied my teaching to suit a wide range of ability in my primary school classes.
    I still see some of my ex pupils & they tell me that they enjoyed being in my class.
    I am 80 years old & recommend either playing a relatively short course or playing off the red tees on long courses.
    That enables me to avoid getting too tired & usually have a satisfactory score.

      Thanks Alan we appreciate your ongoing support. Very interesting to hear about your experiences both teaching pupils and the contrast of being taught by golf teachers.
      The new book is going to be a few months yet. It is being edited right now but still needs to go for publishing and production. Hopefully here by Christmas? I’m not sure of the price yet but it will be similar to Positive Impact Golf. Brian had part written this new book and left me to finish it - basically it goes over much the same principles but with the added hindsight of more than a decade of coaching his theories, it details the experiences gained from his coaches and thousands of our students over the years. Hopefully, this will help you with your game to improve through your eighties!

    Thanks for your info.... as i remember.... the key is to put that foot down as the start of your downswing for the weight shift...not starting down with arms....which is why i probably tried to stop using it and planting my foot... eliminating extra movement. but at 72,,, i think i need it again....Thanks again, i will give it a go on the range tomorrow.... Vince

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Год назад +4

      Philip responded to a very similar comment about starting the downswing this way: Personally, I prefer to just allow that to happen as my concentration is on connecting the clubhead to my body movement without interference, but if it works for you and helps your sequencing then go ahead. Remember there are no absolutes and we often find different routes to the same conclusion.
      Hope this helps and good luck with your range practice, we hope you see some great results!

      Absolutely, the launch angle is also a large factor in this. With the aim of keeping the video easy to understand, we wanted to focus on reducing effort and creating a larger swing. Our previous video: ruclips.net/video/qTiTllzyOk4/видео.html covers launch angle and dynamic loft in detail.

    Very true about left heal being raised. A lot of men looked at T.V footage and were taught by pro's who advised them to keep your left heal down because of Tiger's swing thinking that's how you get more power/distance. What it does give you is damaged knees and back.

    • @philipsparks8315
      @philipsparks8315 Год назад +1

      I couldn’t agree more. Notice how few female golfers raise their lead heel is that because they are more flexible than the guys? Possibly, but another theory is that they nearly all have been coached by the guys you mention who think that a body can work like a spring. If this was the case why do ALL the long drive champions raise their heel? I am convinced these coaches have it wrong. Thanks for your comment I am delighted that this video has resonated with so many golfers who are realising there is a better (and easier) way to use our bodies to create power without strain.

    I’m new to golf and 67 years old. I took advantage of lessons through the VA and I would raise my left heel naturally. Not one of the in house professionals told me to plant it!
    I have a friend whom is and has been an avid golfer for 55 or 60 years, he’s pretty darn salty too. He has been after me for the last 10 years to play and after taking lessons, I did. The first thing he said was, “keep your left heel planted.”

    I have just returned to hitting balls after a break of 35 years - right now I’m on the driving range trying to get back into everything again.
    I am 70 in a few months time but when I’m swinging I find myself imitating the way I used to swing with not great results.
    The pro at the course advised me to just use my arms and not my knees/hips etc, but it feels awkward for me. I naturally lift my left foot anyway - but as you describe, I tend to hit the ball too hard and force it to a longer distance.
    Yesterday - I tried your method and boy…it suits me so much - it is not awkward now…it feels better and my distance improved a lot. I will continue with this method and will hone it so I have better consistency. Feeling quite excited and looking forward to my first nine holes in a few months time 😊

I have always been too tight in my swing, and I have not gotten any distance at all. Thanks for the suggestion.

      Hi Bob
      You can do some great practice during the winter indoors just practicing the movement and getting used to the feel of it. Don’t forget to download your free e-book which will also show you our famous “La Danse du golf” movement which will also help. A swing caddy is also a great investment (or a hole in one if you have limited room height available) these are especially good for players who have a shortened playing season. Take a look at our website for links to all the above and good luck!

  • @Paul-lm5gv

    This makes a lot of sense. I believe Jack Nicklaus said he initiated the down swing by planting his left heel back on the ground. But I question getting a full 100 yards more carry with just an increase of 10 mph swing speed.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  5 месяцев назад

      If you watch closely I explain that not only was my clubhead speed reduced by 10mph but also due to the restricted swing my attack was steeper - from memory I think the launch angle was around 6° rather than 12° plus. Also 100mph accelerating is very different to 90mph decelerating. Hope that all makes a bit more sense. 👍

  • @SBillings01
    @SBillings01 Год назад +6

    I love what you’re saying here. Perhaps the most important idea, though, is continuing to work out for strength and flexibility. Most people my age do nothing for their bodies and it shows. I’m 64 with a driver average carry of 250 yards. I stretch every single day and do 30 pushups a day. Work out… it works.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Год назад +1

      Thank you. It is absolutely true that strength and flexibility training is incredibly beneficial for maintaining our ability to swing freely, especially as we get older. Sadly, we don't always have the capacity despite the good intentions. Easiest Swing is extremely body friendly in nature and works very well even for those with reduced mobility and strength. However, with good flexibility and strength as you describe, you should see great results adopting the ES concepts.

    • @philipsparks8315
      @philipsparks8315 Год назад +2

      You are right flexibility and strength are particularly helpful as we get older. Truth is though, not enough of us work on that. Thanks for your comments hopefully will inspire a few more to follow suit.

  • @timnew7662
    @timnew7662 Год назад +4

    I would contend that there is something wrong with your first set of numbers that say your first swing was 91 mph and yet only carried the ball 134 yards. I am 65 and though I am not a long hitter (my swing speed with the driver is low to mid 80's) I still carry the ball anywhere from 175-190 yards depending on the quality of contact.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Год назад

      You are absolutely right, the lower swing speed was not the only factor playing a role in the reduced carry distance. The launch angle was significantly lower, the swing narrower, steeper angle of attack and the club was decelerating rather than accelerating through impact (putting the breaks on). These factors combined were what made for such a stark contrast. Quality of contact is arguably more important than speed and swinging with a longer, relaxed, tension free swing will increase the likelihood of a good quality strike.

      I empathise with your frustration and for many years I found that when it was going well my instincts to just hit it harder when it was going well just took over! So look for a couple of solutions that worked for me first I found if I always tried to hit the next shot 10% easier than the last one that helped the other is to have a mental reset a few times could be every nine or even six or three holes to calm yourself back down. Main thing is to just keep going with it don’t give up! Great comment though and one I know many others will relate to thanks! 🙏

    Wonderful video. I seem to recall some golfers of old who lifted their left heel up talked about starting the downswing by planting their left heel back onto the floor as if 'squashing a bug'. Is this a helpful thought to start the downswing, from your point of view, or do you feel this can inhibit the feeling of 'turning through' to a finish? We are all searching for the 'holy grail' feel of starting the downswing and wondered if you had thoughts on that swing feeling?

    • @philipsparks8315
      @philipsparks8315 Год назад +3

      Personally I’m not keen on movements like this that are independent of the swinging motion. Personally like to just stay as relaxed as possible and feel the clubhead swing as naturally with the least interference possible. For me the problem with that concept of squashing a bug is that it is too independent of the swinging motion and to me will lead to a disconnection of movement. Having said, that if it works for some players and helps them to sequence their moves better then go with it! Remember there are no absolutes in this game and we often find different paths to the same result.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Год назад +2

      Thank you for your continued support Chris. I think as Philip has suggested, it is down to personal preference. Like Philip though, feeling the weight of the club head in the swing and responding to that in a relaxed way with minimal interference is absolutely key.

      Many thanks both. I think I knew the answer to that but it is good to ask questions that some may have but don't vocalise themselves. I have been following you and your team now circa 7 months. Bought the book and the hole in one trainer and my handicap has fallen from 24 to 16. I don't go to the range anymore. I practice my swing with the hole in one trainer and i practice only my chipping, putting and bunkers now at the club. Waiting for the new book with anticipation as my putting continues to suck and I think there may be some pointers in the new material when that comes out. Without sounding like this is a sales pitch, this is why the Swing Caddy is so brilliant at offering feedback on your swing speed and the effortless way in which you can achieve the clicks at different settings. It often surprises golfers just how important relaxed wrist and hand action is to achieve the 'click'.

    • @philipsparks8315
      @philipsparks8315 Год назад +1

      I know this sounds like a sales pitch but as Peter said this is why we have endorsed a product like the Swing Caddy for nearly 60 years now. A golf club doesn’t give you feedback about how fast the club is swinging and monitors only give you feedback after the event. A Swing Caddy (or Hole in One, the shorter version) gives you instant feedback so you can start to learn how to effortlessly increase power. The emphasis being on “effortlessly” nearly all golfers who lack clubhead speed look in the wrong direction to increase it. Once you start to really get it, you realise you can swing slower but achieve more clubhead speed. It’s truly wonderful!!

    Returning it to the ground on the downswing automatically transfers weight to the left side. Also a good thing.
    Never going to be hiiting it 300yds, but nonetheless, this one technique freed up my swing considerably.
    And relaxing, 'swinging' as opposed to 'hitting', was the icing on the cake for me. Harder to do than it sounds, but worth the effort.

    The best solution, paradoxically, is to swing more slowly.
    I watched the Women's Open about 10 years ago and saw they were hitting 280 yards or more off the tee and wondered why I couldn't do it. I slowed down, copied their smooth swing and added more than 25 yards to my tee shots within a few weeks.
    I'm 77, 5'6 and had cancer surgery 6 weeks ago so I am taking things very easy. On Saturday my 5 wood tee shots were between 185 and 205 yards. My driver on the 3 holes where I used it went over 210 yards.

    Excellent tip Philip on "Senior Golfers Defying Their Age With This Magic Move!" I've been playing this wonderful game now for 68 years and I have reached a stage in life where I have to redo my swing! In this video you point out how "lifting the left heal" for seniors is the answer to adding distance to their game. At one time and when I was a lot younger, I use to lift my left heal ala Nicklaus. Then, when it became popular to keep the left foot planted, I went this route and where I have been ever since. After viewing this video, I believe it is now time to revert back to my old way! I’m sixty now and I do struggle with a lack of flexibility, my driver only goes about two hundred yards. I play a lot with my son and his friends who are in their early thirties and hit the ball a lot harder than I but luckily I hit the ball a lot straighter and am in the fairway more consistently which helps even things out but as they improve and I get older this could definitely help me to continue being competitive with them so I’m going to give it a try.

You can buy one on this link through Amazon: tinyurl.com/swing-caddy
      The Swing Caddy can help you become more accustomed to using your wrists and hands, something we are conventionally taught not to do. Using the hand and wrists allows you to get more swing speed. It's one of those personal preference scenarios. Brian famously had a small forward push as he initiated his swing. The only issue with using the lead heel as a trigger is it could interfere with the swing motion by having a focus on parts or body positions during the swing. If that happens you run the risk of losing that lovely fluid swing motion. Your body should respond to the swinging of the clubhead.

    Never been that good at Golf but will say here that, you should Not, " Lift your Left heel off the ground.' Instead 'Let"' your Left heel come off the ground This will happen naturally if you 'Allow' your Left Knee, to bend in the back swing. Like everything in golf it's a subtle difference that makes the difference.

    • @philipsparks8315
      @philipsparks8315 Год назад +2

      I agree Paul the aim should not be to “Lift” the left heel off the ground (which I don’t believe I actually said) but to “allow it to lift” or “release it off the ground” or “let it come off the ground”. I also agree that allowing the left knee to kick in towards the right is the right thing to do. In fact the last lesson Brian gave me, he said exactly that, and having spent many years in the nineties chasing the spurious goal of coil and lower body resistance I still struggle to let that knee move enough in that direction so I appreciate that reminder. Thanks! …..As you say it is the subtle difference between an easy natural movement and a forced one.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Год назад +1

      Absolutely Paul, you are completely correct. Subtle difference, but significant in the result. Brian and the coaches will talk about this being a response to the swing movement. Often the result of achieving a bigger or full turn in a relaxed and tension free way.

  • @leonardhandzlik6008
    @leonardhandzlik6008 Год назад +2

    I think you are dead on with your advice, but I do feel that the yards carried by your first drive had to be wrong. No way did a 91.5 mph club head speed only carry 135 yards. A 10 mph difference should only result in about 40 yds. difference in carry. That being said, I am going to start lifting my left heel immediately.

    • @philipsparks8315
      @philipsparks8315 Год назад +1

      Yes you are right that 10mph clubhead speed alone would not account for the difference in distance, but it is the steep angle of attack that a restricted backswing move creates, that prevents the ball from getting a proper flight. Added to this I mentioned the braking effect of tension, this is a key difference in that in the first swing it achieves 91mph clubhead speed, but it is already slowing down at impact whereas the greater width created in the second shot and an ACCELERATING clubhead are all factors to take into account. I have seen so many seniors try to make up their loss of distance with extra effort into the ball when all they actually needed was to be able to create a fuller turn again (by not gluing the lead heel to the floor) and then swing to a full follow through without tension and their speed comes back along with better impact conditions that improve the ball flight. I hope that helps.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Год назад

      You are absolutely right in your observation, the launch angle is also significantly lower, which is a large contributing factor on the carry distances. This is also a common result of a shorter, snappier swing. We didn't want to overload our viewers with information, but to show them how they can easily discover more distance from a more relaxed and larger swing, simply by removing the restriction of a planted lead heel. We hope you find some great progress by allowing your lead heel to lift in response to a larger, more relaxed swing.

    Thanks Phil - I’ve been doing this for the last 12 months because I noticed that I was dipping my head forward too much through the backswing which resulted in early extension. It solved that and as you suggest it has also frees up the stiffness and allows an effortless follow through. Good video 👍🏌️⛳️

Not only have I driven the ball 40 yds further it has improved the ball striking with my other clubs too. Certainly the last two rounds anyway. Long may it continue 🤞🏻 I've subscribed so i can get some more little nuggets. Thankyou.

    What shaft would you recommend for a swing like this? I’m a younger, stronger person with numbers similar to yours. I don’t like swinging hard. I’d rather lift the heel and let it fly.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  Год назад

      Great to hear that you prefer not to swing hard, let the left heel lift and let it fly. It goes without saying that a club fitting session with a qualified fitter is absolutely essential. They will find a club and shaft setup that maximises performance and works best with your swing. Philip uses a Stiff shaft setup as he feels it helps him to swing easier and with less effort. Hope that helps.

      I’d suggest caution about getting anything too stiff I have found in recent years that a little extra flex encourages me to swing more relaxed whereas anything too stiff just encourages too much effort. So I’d suggest you err on that side. Hope that’s helpful.

    I believe the reason to keep the leading foot down on back swing was to improve consistency, not about distance.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  10 месяцев назад

      Yes you are right - that was in the days when the golf industry believed that a technically perfect swing was the answer to the game. Thereby denying the genius of the subconscious, thankfully more and more of us are realising that good motion trumps good positions.

    91mph and 134 yards carry?????????

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  9 месяцев назад

      91 mph is not the only factor - steep angle of attack and low launch angle plus decelerating clubhead all make a difference. Speed is not the only factor to take into consideration!

    In yourWhy 95% of Golfers Don't STRIKE their irons at 3;31 at the top of backswing your left heel barely comes off the ground. I'm confused.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  6 месяцев назад

      The larger the swing the more turn required and therefore the more the heel will rise. Take a look at 3.34 with a driver. But having said all of that I used to keep my heel flat on the ground so even a small lift allows me more turn and freedom. Also we are not prescriptive we are not saying you have to raise your heel by #### number of inches. More importantly it is about releasing yourself from the belief that the heel needs to stay rooted. Hope that clarifies this for you.

    One of the BEST tips ever for us older golfers!!! I like the fuller rotation, ease of swing, & less stress on my body, especially after coming off battling cancer twice. Thanks. Now if I can only remember to do it each time I tee it up lol. Haven't gained a lot of yards yet but maybe those will come the more I become comfortable with this new approach. Thanks again

    Thanks for the driving tip, distance is great. I do question the carry number of the old swing at 135 yards at 91 mph. My swing at 75 mph has carry of 160 yards. 100 yard improvement at your faster speed is not likely correct but still impressive.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  6 месяцев назад

      You're welcome and you are correct with your observation. There were many other contributing factors that caused the lack of carry distance - lower launch angle, steeper angle of attack and deceleration through impact all had a large influence. More swing speed by allowing the left heel to lift achieving more turn is just one advantage. Check out our other videos to learn more: ruclips.net/video/dK2z_UhfCew/видео.html

    I love easiest but YOU DONT HIT BALL IN YOUR GREAT BACKSWING.Can you direct me to your links for downswing without frenzied over the top move. • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  9 месяцев назад

      It is difficult to give objective advice without seeing your movement. However, a movement “over the top” is usually caused by tension. I’d suggest you experiment with seeing how relaxed you could be even playing some half speed half effort full swings to see what happens. I also wonder if you have ever really paid attention to your finish position? This is the only “position” the Easiest Swing is interested in!

    I hear you BUT the problem in doing that is the weight shift to right gets too much and you cannot get back to the ball easily (weight and turn). I stopped lifting my left heel and I was much more consistent - no more big hits out to the right. Early in a round it is OK - but when tired on the back 9 the body just cannot make the move/turn needed to hit it straight. So can I ask - how do you stop moving too far the right when the heel comes up, when you are tired.

    • @Easiestswing
      @Easiestswing  7 месяцев назад +1

      Have a watch of this video as it may help: ruclips.net/video/2TCK6GGScjk/видео.html The weight shifts in response to the turn and should be a natural and easy movement as demonstrated in La Danse du Golf. If you are struggling to get back to the ball then it would suggest your 6 Basics aren't quite optimal. The heel should lift in response to a good, full turn, with a natural weight shift occurring. This move should not make you tired, when done correctly it reduces effort significantly. Keep studying, you will get there!
