As a Sniper I literally finish missions with double the ranged damage of Heavies with nearly as many kills because I can shoot my Las-Fusil into the horde and get the shot refunded by a perk. Not to mention carry by reviving teammates and not dying if my health runs out which just makes me invisible. I snipe the guys before they can get a call of for reinforcements and can one or two shot all the annoying Majoris enemies that are the primary reason for most mission failures. The Zoanthrope which most say is one of the most annoying enemies in the game literally is dead in two shots. I finish most games as the top in most categories apart from melee damage. With a tactical damage buff, most bosses get absolutely melted. All of that is why Sniper/Tactical is the meta. Third can be Bulwark or Heavy to clear trash. The people crying that it is bad are outing themselves as trash players because they can't meet the skill floor to play it and because they don't like they can't rely on being tanky to survive taking 20 hits in a row because they can't dodge or block.
@@Wanderer628 even more so after the patch added armour regen on parrying minoris normal attacks which turned them basically turned them fully into angry medpacks XD
While I do agree there's no excuse to call the game hard (except on Lethal) if you're playing multiplayer, I will say that it can get hard playing solo with certain classes if you go to Threat: Substantial and beyond. The Zoanthrope Pair in particular is very difficult to deal with as an Assault on Average difficulty, and upgrades to damn-near impossible on Substantial: they lock on to the player and start spamming their heavy attacks in tandem, and there's nothing you can really do as an Assault except dodge and wait for either the bots to kill them or a reinforcement wave to hit and swarm you. And the bots just leisurely shoot everything except the Zoanthropes unless they're the last enemies remaining. Sometimes you can get lucky. The Zoans show up in a low-ceiling area, and you can bring them down with Jump Slams and maybe even Melee in a couple of places. Or there's a tall obstruction that breaks up the pair and you can quickly finish off one with your pistol before they get their shield link and tandem heavy attack spam going. Or you have Krak Grenades to burst down a Zoan before they can swap shields (though a single Krak Grenade is no longer enough for an instant down to Execution, starting on Substantial). I can manage everything else once I get into the rhythm of dodging and parrying. From Neurothropes to Lictors to groups of 8 Warriors or Thousand Sons in a massive wave, to Terminators and Helbrutes: if I lose against them, I know I stumbled somewhere, lost the rhythm and failed to get it back. But not with the Zoanthrope pair: I find myself stuck dodging, unable to even shoot potshots back in the brief windows where I'm not dodging. Since the only reason I even get that brief moment is because the unshielded one has moved behind the shielded one and paused its attacks. And I don't really see how "dodging better" actually lets me beat them, instead of just stalling for longer until the reinforcement wave comes in and overwhelms me. Also, I don't give a single damn about what's "meta". Assault is the most fun I've had in an action game in years, even when I end up losing, and I'll continue to main it. Meanwhile sniper was an actively boring point-and-click adventure, right up until the swarms in the mission got constant enough that I was always using the combat knife anyway. Because again: the bots suck at pulling aggro and the AI always priorities saturating the player with enemies over the bots.
