    I found it. I found Bach. This is it. This is exactly how it is played. This. Is. It.

    I've seen many church organists play, but none at this level. Jonathan is playing runs with his feet that would be a challenge playing with one's hands. And to top it off, he is playing with his hands, thus three parts all at once. I've never really seen anyone play the organ to this level of complexity and efficiency. I've been watching for weeks and can't stop. I'm hooked. Bravo! Encore! Encore!

    Watching you two again and again I repeatedly marvel at how you do it … Jonathon with his hands and feet and Tom with his cameras coordinated so seamlessly with the hands and feet. I’m your grateful fan in San Diego, CA. By the way, we boast the largest outdoor pipe organ in the world along with our own civic organist!! The organ pavilion is in Balboa Park which also includes our world famous zoo. (Our animals are unusually cultured!). What a thrill it would be for you to grace our fair city with your sumptuous artistry!!

    Excellent visual coordination with the performance. The consistency of tempo was very good allowing the counterpoint to be clearly followed. The registration enhanced the clarity of the fugue. Lots of practice for sure! The soundtrack engineering captures the performance effectively, imho.
    You have a pleasant, accessible middle of the road performance style. I can imagine JS Bach composing the D Major in his early twenties after experiencing the virtuoso performances of Buxtehude. He probably could rehearse on a pedal clavichord when bellows pumpers were not available.18th century musicianship must have been very good. Thank you for sharing your artistry. All the best from west Michigan (USA).

    One day in eternity, J.S.B meets J.S.
    J.S.B, raising an eyebrow, asking "Ready for a contest?"
    J.S, with a fine smile on his face, nodding "With pleasure".
    And the battle goes on and on and on, it's time enough in eternity ...
    I'm looking forward to it and hope to get a front row seat there.
    All the best. ✨

    I prefer that the grand central sections of Bach pieces like this prelude be played forte or with fuller organ, and not arbitrarily played too softly. Well-played, though.

    As much as I like this piece, listening to the fugue just now it strikes me that it's not very fugue-like compared to some of Bach's other fugues - is it really a fugue?

  • @davidcraggs3770
    @davidcraggs3770 Год назад

    One of my favourite J.S.Bach compositions to play and listen to. I use the Novello edition adhering strictly to the notation and adding no ornamentation of my own. (A pet hate of mine).
    As usual in recordings and many performances of this piece, Virtuoso Organists take the fugue too fast for my liking and enjoyment, to its detriment despite how note perfect and Brilliantly played it is.
    Bach himself would have never played or even been able to play at this speed on the organs in his day and I deem that these performances cannot be classed as authentic.
