    I was wondering if you could do another review on the asw28 with possibly any other adjustments you've made since you flown it more?

      I had to cull the fleet to make room for a giant scale and sold the ASW28 along with another model. The new owner is a club member, and like myself, loves it.

    @Hoosier Who Flys RC ...this is out of the AR637T Manual "The AR637T receiver has coaxial style antennas. We recommend installing the antennas oriented 90 degrees from each other and as far as possible from metal, batteries, carbon fiber or fuel tanks to maximize signal reception performance". Please see page 6 of the AR637T Manual. Important note: Only the bare portion of the coaxial antennas are active for reception!

      My deepest apologies. You are correct. I had a different model in mind when I wrote my reply. After I made the ASW 28 video I moved the antennas to a 90 degree separation and fastened with spots of hot glue along either side of the battery bay on the shelf. Range checks were ok. I also added a GPS telemetry receiver in the battery bay. Reception has worked well. Finally I am trying out an 1800 4s battery to lighten up weight a little. Thanks for the reply.

    My old DX8 can set the battery timer so it only counts down if the throttle is above a set level. Not as good as telemetry, but you have a pretty good idea of battery usage during long sailplane flights.

      Good solution if you don't have a transmitter with telemetry

    Thanks for the programming overview. I usually fly my Flex cap 232 and work on aerobatic maneuvers, but the other day I started watching a pilot thermalling his 2 meter sailplane while sitting in a lawn chair. It looked quite appealing to this 81 year old. Do you have some thoughts on the best 2 meter sailplane? Have you flown the ASW 28?

      Yes I do, I owned the ASW 28, it's a great flyer.

    I've heard 3 different opinions on center of gravity. Should it be slightly nose heavy, balanced evenly, or slight tail heavy? which is it? Open for comments.

      I have found in models and full scale that slightly aft makes for less pitch stability but may be little better cruise performance. But aft CG is playing with fire. Full scale has W&B charts and calculations safe pilots check if there is any doubt. Model aircraft are trial and error.

      Depends what you are doing...thermaling or piercing wind for sloaping

    Question for you: That Avian ESC (SPMXAE45A) has two plugs for the receiver. One is for the throttle (3 wires) but the other connecter has only a single yellow wire. What is that for?

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer  Год назад

      It's a programming port lead. See the manual at www.spektrumrc.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-horizon-master/default/dwb627f043/Manuals/Avian-Manual-EN.pdf

      Pardon my chiming-in..., the yellow wire is either to be plugged into the throttle port of a telemetry receiver, or it is for programming purposes...

    Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it but what was the reason for changing out the 40 ESC that came with the plane?

    • @gleeloyd
      @gleeloyd Год назад

      Hi Kenneth, he talks about why (voltage reporting) at about 5:00 and then goes into detail on the particular esc he chose at about 9:50.

    I like your videos. I haven’t done any RC flying in decades, I built a Gentle Lady back in the mid 90’s with a 4ch Futaba, and destroyed it on second flight😞. Used to fly control line as a kid, I’m 62 now. I am going to go buy the set up you have here, I know I will get addicted and increase my hangar down the road. My question is, with money not really being much of an issue for me, is it worth it to bump up to a Specktrum IX14 (I see the case for your IX12 in the background) as my first “new” radio?(I don’t have the Futaba any longer and want to take advantage on new technology, safe, vario, increased range and customization) or would it be better to get the 8 channel. I plan to advance to other planes, probably never into helicopters, but those F5J 4 meter carbon fiber gliders with multiple flaps and spoilers, ailerons, etc get me all excited and and I have always wanted to build a Corsair and build it with folding wings. Am I thinking about too much radio?

      Thanks but the case was bought because it fit my needs. I have an NX8.
