    The sound of the aerodynamics as it flies by power off is just music to my ears! 😎 It's magical! 😆

    I've been flying my TH ASW 28 over the past year - Flys Great, plenty powerful, and thermal capable. Just a Joy to fly. Excellent build quality. Glad you recorded the off-power fly-bys. So Cool.

    That's a nice looking sailplane! Love scale gliders. My buddy and myself get on a glider kick ever so often, and we love towing each other up with a Super Cub or Decathlon. 100 ft tow line is just about perfect. You're right about the thermals Chris, as it's a blast to find them and spiral up. Great video as always!! Nice to see Tower putting out models as well.

    That's my division of the hobby, thermo duration. Either bungee, winch, self power, or tow plane launch. You can droop the ailerons and flaps a few degrees to change the airfoil and increase climb rate in lift. And of course there's always the tie-breaking spot landing on a graduated target tape. That particular design (large wing area elliptical planform 2M) looks well dialed in for good performance. Yeah, I diggin' that plane alot. I should get one. Thanks for doing a video on it.

I am very interested in the process of how you go about determine the control rates and expo if required and all the radio set up , could I ask if you could do a presentation on a model and show us your method please . Great channel, cheers mate

      Thanks for the suggestion! Ultimately the rates I settle on are based on my personal preference of the desired feel I’m looking for from the model. It’s all about personal preference. Some like a little more sensitivity and some like less and so tune their rates accordingly.

    Hey Chris! I was just getting back into the hobby after a 2 year break and I was wondering if you can use a 3s 2200 or even maybe a 3s 1300, just to get it up to altitude and glide the rest of the way down. I know since its a 40a ESC, a 1300 may be to low and maybe even 3s is to low to.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 года назад +2

      Yes, the there’s a brake engaged on the motor which stops it and the prop folds back. I wonder if who you saw break the prop had the motor running when he landed it. Or didn’t throttle back the motor soon enough before touchdown.

      What I mean is if the model doesn’t feel locked in in the dive, then the cg probably needs to come forward.

    I'm assuming there's no Remote ID or you would have mentioned it. I'm really interested in how this will all play out now that the deadline for manufacturers to include Remote ID has passed. I understand that planes/drones made before December 2022 don't require manufactured Remote ID in their UA, but eventually they will run out ot those and have to make more that require it "built in", and I'm really waiting for all this to play out with Tower, Hobby King, and Horizen.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 года назад +1

      We’ll see how it goes. Ultimately if you’re flying in a FRIA (your local club field), it will be much less of an issue. At least as it’s currently written.

    • @Kevin-ib4gv
      @Kevin-ib4gv 2 года назад

      @@Thercgeek It actually does not matter whether flying in a FRIA or not, as the requirement by the FAA requires ALL aircraft, kit or ready to fly, manufactured after 12/22 to have Remote ID built in by the manufacturer. FRIAs will be the only place you can fly prior non-Remote ID aircraft should you wish to fly after 09/23, but UA manufactured after 12/22 will have Remote ID built in and cannot be turned off even if flying in a FRIA.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 года назад

      I don’t know then. I’d expect we’ll see if after the compliance date. The FAA threw out their date without much consideration for manufacturers having to develop the technology for it.

    Love a glider. That’s a nice ship! Considering your clout within the hobby, do you have any insight as to why we aren’t seeing the quality balsa warbirds from hangar 9 or topflite anymore? The top flite hellcat or the hangar 9 bf 109 were great birds. Seems like foam is the de facto offering for the foreseeable future. I’m hoping you may have some insight otherwise. Have a great weekend Chris.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 года назад +1

      I think at the end of the day, foam is less expensive to manufacture. Wood arfs require skilled labor to physically build each aircraft from a stack of parts. They’re designed with mass production in mind, but it’s still quite labor intensive. The foam airframes start out much more prefabricated since the parts are injection molded so the assembly time is reduced significantly. Truthfully, I do prefer wood and composite airframes myself, but the foam airframes have gotten pretty darn good these days.
