And to think 95% of it is stream of consciousness. Unbelievable. There was a comment on one of Larry's first videos that I loved. "Every time Tom picks up a guitar a song comes out. It's never noodling". And it's so true.
No, you're not. It was the first thing I heard from Uncle Larry, and felt like he showed me a place somewhere in me that I knew was there but never surfaced. Jimi does the same with me. Being watching the Corona lessons and Homeskoolin' show religiously since day one. He's a special kind of person and human being.
This is where I discovered uncle Larry when this rr first aired.. I fell in love with that intro and have watched it over and over since. It’s so awesome I wish he’d do abit of it on homeskoolin
Man, I agree. He’s literally my favorite living guitarist. Anyone who makes fun of weird personality or presentation quirks just doesn’t get it (and doesn’t know the real Tom at all).
Bigg Papa dude the only person here who is spaced is you judging by the comments haha I’m joking of course, but he is simply speaking in hyperbole. Such an amazing rig and player!
Tom is an absolute one-of-a-kind. He loaned me some gear for one of my first "big" sessions years ago (it wasn't that big, really😄) and I muddled through it as best I could. When I brought it all back I had a zillion questions and he very patiently went through a kind of "Nashville Session 101" with me. Here's the tuner to get. Here's how you dial in an amp to get a tone that's full, but cuts through. Here are the main guitars you really need for almost any session. Here's how you TUNE the guitar when the intonation is off (as it was for most of my guitars) but you need to use it- basically he said you find the chord or the area of the fretboard you're going to be using the most for that song or that track/part and tune the guitar to that. He was so excited to talk gear and walk me through it all! But most of what I've learned from Tom has been from just watching him play up close. Everything he plays is a lesson in phrasing, note selection, and taste. His touch and dynamics are otherworldly.
@@NightpantsAt 11:50 he talks strings. So Yes, but... He also said he could probably play 9's and he didn't think strings made that much of a difference. He told the Billy Gibbons story who started playing 8's in 1971 because BB King looked at his guitar and asked him why he was working so hard. Based on his explanation of not being able to easily bend the high E string, it's possible age had something to do with it. I've heard SRV moved to thinner springs as he got older.
I play licks from this Rig Rundown sometimes and people are like, that is so beautiful, what song is that? Just this guy Tom Bukovac casually noodling better music than most people will ever play their whole lives.
This isn’t a rundown, this is an education. Thank you Tom - you didn’t have to share your gift with PG and us, you coulda just pointed at amps and smiled. You’re a good, good dude, man. Thank you!
My favorite moment in this interview: Tom: (hands John the SG) Feel it. Kinda heavy? John: Eh, I don't know. I mean.....I don't know. Tom: Alright This interview was chill AF
Mine was when John handed him a guitar, then Tom handed it back and told him to feel how heavy it was. He literally just picked it up. Still though, great interview.
The studio players make the best Rig Rundowns. Kenny Gallagher, Brent Mason, and, now, Tom Bukovac have blown my mind. Thanks, Premier Guitar and John for guiding Tom to play his stuff. Just great!
This guy slays me every time he touches a guitar. Everything he plays is beautiful. Best voice leading and chord voicings in the game. Time feel is flawless. I love watching his right hand.
Probably my favorite Rig Rundown. I had no idea who Tom Bukovac was, but I SURE do now! Simply an amazing all around player. Any guitarist who can reference Explosions in the Sky and not be a player in that genre', has some truly amazing ears. And is incredibly a well rounded musician. Mad props to this guy! This guy is what its all about.....
Hello from Sweden I hope both of you guys some times think about how far and in this case how deep those videos reach. I am born in far North of Sweden now living in lovely Stockholm finding my self getting so moved and inspirered by this that I am at 51 years of age wanting to go back to my previous line of work as session musician, singer, guitarist and bandleader. I know this sounds like your average mid life crisis but damn this is so inspiring and sometimes life changing so just a big thank you to Tom and John for sharing this unstopable love of life, gear and music.🙂❤🙏

I've watched this probably a dozen times in a yr. Tom is one of the greats for sure. I don't live by it, but would suggest anyone wanting to get better on guitar to study this man hard. One of my favorite things about him is, he never gets lazy in his playing. Doesn't matter if he's just teaching a lick, or clowning around, he always put 100% into one note, much less a phrase or song. I have to add, that Tom is so beautifully, masterfully, musical. Everything he touches, whether a simple lick or an extended riff, is just lovely. And largely because of this, plus his kind gentle demeanor, makes this one of the best Rig Rundowns i've viewed. Many thanks.
Tom is a true guitar sage.He is like a beat poet of guitar with this super laid back rocknroll attitude. The nuances in his playing are unreal.Tom rock on you are my favorite.John what an interview. One for the history books
Wow. I have to admit I am not familiar with Mr. Bukovak, but his tonal sense is astounding!! His playing is crazy beautiful, and all of the different tones he pulled out of that board was inspiring to say the least. That is a man who has SO much experience chasing tones. Some of that playing almost brought me to tears it was so beautiful. I love stumbling on these videos that I learn so much from. Fantastic.
@@tomhurstdrums He truly is such a unique tasteful no BS guitarists guitarist. Some of his off the cuff improvisations have had me completely moved emotionally. Not many guitar players can do that. Just to come up with it like that. Amazing.

Not only for his pure talent, tone, touch, phrasing and all of the professional guitar player stuff but watching his pure enthusiasm as he walks through everything from his guitars, amps and pedals. What an absolutely amazing player.

His attitude, his talent, his sincerity, all speak volumes about his love of guitars and music. He is a credit to the music industry. We need more guys like Tom. Thanks! Tom R.
Saw Tom with Trigger Hippy in Indy after they released their first album. Remember him playing a white Strat most of the night. Got a chance to talk to him after the show, not knowing any of his background, and he could not have been nicer. I asked him about the Strat, and he said he doesn't usually get too attached to any guitar, but that he could not part with that Strat. (Interesting to hear him say in the video he is probably a Gibson guy.) He left the band not long after that, so I feel very fortunate to have seen him live...with such a great band.
An incomparably talented guitarist who plays with such a great nerve and feeling that touches right into the soul. Have seen this intro a hundred times and love it. ❤️
This set the bar to a new high. Just awesome. Great explanations of how to use the tools, adjusting on the fly. Easy to see how he has been so successful as a studio guru.

I still think this is the best Rundown so far. Tom really knows his pedals.
The playing at the beginning was just beautiful. I didn’t know this dude before. Totally impressed.
I never really took the time to check Tom out but WOW what a cool guy and what a guitarist I’ll be checking out his body of work as soon as this interview ends.
Wow, this is one of the best rig rundowns ever .Tom's playing and knowledge of the amps and pedals was just unreal this guy sound is so good I got chills I'am a FFL (fan for life )OMG!!!
Nothing more to say about Uncle Larry's greatness that hasn't already been said. Also wanted to give props to the interviewer. He is a good mix of conversational and knowing when to listen. Keeps the discussion moving in a natural way. Best rig rundown IMO.
One of the best RR's of all time. Loved every minute of it. Really dug the Firebird and the Martin, but the '58 335 is IT!!!! That is my dream guitar tone.
That opening thing he's playing for a couple minutes at the beginning is one of the most beautfiul things I've ever heard. My god.
Amazing. We need Tom to do an interview on Trutone lounge now
Anthony Patton Agreed. Zac is the best interviewer.(No disrespect to John).
Not Truetone Lounge but here's a good one as well...

I decided to watch this rundown again and noticed my comment from 3 months ago. Things changed fast. I’m really digging his homeskoolin Chanel. Tom is badass.
He does...called "Homeskoolin'"....not sure about spelling
One of my favorite players, so expressive and emotive......
BEST rig rundown since Daniel Lanois! Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this!
