Me too Im looking for the session where uncle larry played a Christie McVie song 🎵 the day she passed . What an incredible song for an enigmatic performer by a humble session man .❤
Watching this four years later and it’s just so good. One of the few things that came from vivid is Home Skoolin! Tommy B. the Sloven guitar man from Cleveland!
always fun to go back to these old ones, especially cool to hear you talk about never having made a solo album. glad to see that come to fruition twice already in a couple years. hope you're finding artistic satisfaction and general satisfaction in your life Tom. I really appreciate all the time and wisdom you've given to us.
Thanks so much for these man! I've been talking with people about this for years waiting for you to do something like this. It's not just about the playing, it's the experience, what you have learned after years of playing on thousands of tunes at the highest level, the totality of music as whole and how to play for the song and not for the glory. Its what every musician needs to hear. So much more than just guitar. Pure inspiration! Thanks again, speaking for myself and thousands of others I imagine, I hope you keep going with this these life lessons for guitar, they are really great!!
Call it whatever the heck you want, man. I'm just super stoked to have this killer content! Haven't practiced this much in years. So thanks, Tom. I'm stoked to watch more!
“Is it better with what I’m doing or is it better when I stop?” That should be tattooed on every musician’s right hand...also, as a songwriter, thanks for talking about the target emotion. I call it the true north.
Singers, pianist and other musicians should know that the guitarist solo and jamming is what many listeners are waiting for. Don't ever underestimate the popularity of the guitar. I don't play I'm a professional listener. JMO
if you're struggling with the 4 chord at 14:14 - he's playing both the 6th and the 7th notes rather than just one or the other: from the 5th string to 1st string as follows - C, A, Bb, E. This is not unlike the sus lesson from his earlier vid.
You are my new favorite person/guitar player that I probably will never meet. Typically I do not comment on any social media but your content is awesome. Thanks and stay safe.
My mind is totally blown! You are the most unique guitar player I have ever seen! I've been watching your videos from the start, and was frustrated because you rarely did any interviews or lessons. This is pure candy!
Keep up the great content Tom. Much appreciated respite from all the bad news. I binge watched all of your corona diaries at 3 in the morning the other day. You’re helping us get through this. Thanks.
Hey Tom. Started watching about a month ago now. These videos have been kicking my ass. Keep up the awesome stuff. Thanks for making us all better players Man. 🤘🏻
Sorry for the late reply as I'm watching these in reverse order. Great stuff!. Back in the 70's when I learning the business an old Nashville player told me.."hoss, sometimes it ain't what you play, but what you don't play". (lol) I never forgot that.
Diggin' the Sun Valley shirt, Tom. Definitely my favorite sounding shirt of yours. Great tone. "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture."
Tom, I somehow (FB of course) ran into your channel and instantly became a fan. Your tone/touch/feel is second to none. Will now try to absorb everything u have to offer via YT! Greetings from Slovenia
One of my favorite lessons yet. Loved your discussion on the abstract nature of music, and the comparison between piano and guitar, that's something I've thought a lot about as well.
Absolutely matches my experience in years of doing sessions. You're a service man, a psychologist and a therapist. A friend referred to my old Bob Bradshaw rack as a vending machine and he was right. You're there to interpret someone else's vision and you have to get inside their head. Nothing like doing music for a political ad campaign and having a musically clueless campaign manager and media consultant try to give you musical direction. Tom is truth telling here. I still have those old Session Man MySpace posts archived somewhere. Priceless!
You’re so right man. Piano players have such a vast grasp of arrangement and harmony and color, that’s why they’re usually the musical director in a group or the leader on a session date. And yet they don’t have the palette of touch expression and individuality that a guitar player has with their vibrato, bends and articulation. I think we all picked the right instrument guys and gals! Btw I love organ lines, I used to listen to and plunder guys like Jimmy Smith liberally.
You are the Truth!👊🏼 What you are giving away is “Tribal Knowledge” of a guitar 🎸 session man and that my friend is bad ass!! 😎 That diminished 3rd lick interjected to blues yesterday was a gem! Thank You!! Keep it flowing Tom😎🎸👊🏼
Thanks Man! Love Homeschoolin' your lessons and all the insight in to the music session world is so cool. So tired of all this Corona crap ready for us to take back our freedom from this virus.... People like you are keeping us positive. My granddaughter lives with me so I know all the kid show music too! We need to get this country back on track for our kids sake. (apologies if I got too heavy there but this shit has got me down today)
Hey Tom, I love your wisdom on music without even playing a note. You have started me thinking about so much more just mechanical/muscle memory . Awesome job and thank your wisdom and bad ass licks.
Enjoying watching these videos, and it's such a cool inside look at a session man's world. As a new player, this is fun. Keeps things interesting. We also enjoy the guys that go, here's an easy lick and blaze through it, then say now you do it.
I just came back here to watch this again and I realized that this was the best lesson that you ever gave us ! That was like getting 25 years experience in 20 minutes !
I got into your videos a bit late, but they're so inspiring that I started from volume 1. One take, no editing, no production, only music : that's how it should be. Thanks man
I like this kind of Homeschoolin’ 😊🎸👍. I like the therm old musician wisdom you talk about. Here is some old musician wisdom that I picked up along the way. One of my old guitar teachers once told me: Remember to play the pauses...It gives space to all the cool licks.
Oh boy. I have a lessons playlist. There are players i add a couple lessons to that list. From your stuff i can't pick. It gets a seperate playlist. All of it. It's all that amazing. Thank you so much man.
Great video, Tom. Glad to see Lenny Breau get a mention; he's a beautiful musician. A lot of his chordal ideas were inspired by Bill Evans so it all ties back to what you're saying with regards to piano players and their harmonic capabilities.
Insanely good content - thank you! YT is a useful platform for us vet players to drop a few pearls for the younger generation and you're doing a great job with it. I try with my channel but nothing on par with what you're offering. "Reading the Room" (aka - emotional intelligence) is so key in every profession. It's ultimately what saved my ass when I transitioned out of music into sales in my 40's. I love hearing you speak about more abstract music based concepts and then throw in some guitar ideas at the end. Best of both worlds for me! Hope you keep this channel active once life allows you back out of the garage! And yes, I used to annoy the hell out of my daughter when she was young by playing along with every kid show theme she watched.
Tom, Thanks again for your time to make these videos, how great is it for a chance to learn one on one with a musician of your stature. Home schooling is perfect. Still working on your slide sound technique. Thanks again
Three years later.. going back to the beginning. Still gold
Me too
Im looking for the session where uncle larry played a Christie McVie song 🎵 the day she passed . What an incredible song for an enigmatic performer by a humble session man .❤
And all guitarist on planet stop what they are doing and tune in! Tom you are the best thing on the internet right now bud
💯 🎯🎯🎯
Truth
I have been in a lull for a couple months in my playing and just discovered Tom on RUclips tonight. Feeling inspired again! Thank you!
Four years later he still is the best thing on the internet👍
Finding a teacher that’s a session guy is like finding gold
THIS.
My teacher is a session player. I guess I lucked out.
What great playing!! Whoa, so inspiring. Awesome Tom!!!!
Watching this four years later and it’s just so good. One of the few things that came from vivid is Home Skoolin! Tommy B. the Sloven guitar man from Cleveland!
Love those organ triads!

Amen to that
Well said @papastache102. Well said my friend.
Brett Papa sent me
Robert Baker, Papastache are followers and posting. Some of the most recognizable YT guitar teachers of fanboys. I'm glad I'm here.
Tom also benefits, too. He gets to stretch out and play like HE wants to play, not what the song or producer needs.
Tom got me thru the pandemic, going back even before Homeskoolin’ #1.
"Talking about music is like dancing about architecture." - Thelonious Monk. I always liked that quote, finally got a chance to use it . . .
In reference to 5:14 . . .
I’ve never felt 18 minutes going so fast in my entire life.
It’s like no matter what you do you can never bore me for a second.
This is the best thing to happen to guitarist on RUclips In a long time. Just hope that this continues for a long, long time.
As “the singer” in most situations, this is gold. It’s also why you work all the time.
Just revisiting Episode 1. Great stuff. Can't remember where I jumped in but I watched this one shortly after and knew I'd be back.
Love you Buk! You’re still the guy from high school 30yrars ago. Blessings to you and Sarah!
Call it whatever the heck you want, man. I'm just super stoked to have this killer content! Haven't practiced this much in years. So thanks, Tom. I'm stoked to watch more!
Exactly that.
+1 - Thanks Tom!
+2 - Thanks Tom!
Been watching you since you started this thing # watching old ones now. Just because they are so good.
JMO
I agree..."slience is a chord too"... Too many musicians don't know this. Enjoying your videos.
Just discovered this channel, so happy I did.
"Exploring the ancient link between a session man and a plumber." Love it!!!!
if you're struggling with the 4 chord at 14:14 - he's playing both the 6th and the 7th notes rather than just one or the other: from the 5th string to 1st string as follows - C, A, Bb, E. This is not unlike the sus lesson from his earlier vid.
Struck gold with your show, Tom. Always appreciated your playing. Now I can't wait to dig in from the beginning and watch all these videos!
So much gold in this episode! Thanks Tom!
Going back to see # 1. It’s been a great ride...and you’ve inspired me to buy way too much equipment. Thank you Uncle Larry!
Dude your sense of humor and honesty are as amazing as your playing. Just found you and I am touched....
Thanks for doing all these -- they're been a relief during these hard times!
Can't thank you enough for these videos Tom... amazing to get an insight into the very top level like this!
Man, that organ inspired stuff is just incredible. This channel of yours is such a treasure trove of cool stuff. 🙏
Thanks for doing this. I still can’t thank you enough for the now down “The Dance if Maya” many years ago.Helped a lot.
You are my new favorite person/guitar player that I probably will never meet. Typically I do not comment on any social media but your content is awesome. Thanks and stay safe.
Hey Tom, these volumes are just great. I'm just starting to go through them again and I'm getting so much more! Fantastic. Thanks so much. Jeff
Absolutely FANTASTIC !
My mind is totally blown! You are the most unique guitar player I have ever seen! I've been watching your videos from the start, and was frustrated because you rarely did any interviews or lessons. This is pure candy!
MORE OF THIS STUDIO SAGE WISDOM, PLEASE.
Homeschoolin' is perfect, just keep 'em coming and we'll all be happy man! These are consistently the highlight of my day
Had to come back watch the first one of the Home Skoolin. Good luck with the return to session time Tom 👍
The insights you're sharing are terrific. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this series! Live long and prosper!
Your an amazing inspiration. Your knowledge and wisdom is priceless to many aspiring musicians.
Been playing a long time and this is some of the best advice I have ever heard
Sorry for the late reply as I'm watching these in reverse order. Great stuff!. Back in the 70's when I learning the business an old Nashville player told me.."hoss, sometimes it ain't what you play, but what you don't play". (lol) I never forgot that.

“Homeschoolin’ “ is perfect! Thanks for everything Tom!
Tom... you’re perceptive because of where you came from,.. just an AMAZING guy! Xxoo
Tom, I somehow (FB of course) ran into your channel and instantly became a fan. Your tone/touch/feel is second to none. Will now try to absorb everything u have to offer via YT! Greetings from Slovenia
Feeling very privileged to get to watch these Tom. Just, thanks. Loved your old session man blogs on Myspace btw...
Best convo about piano players ever. Super funny but so true. Love these vids. Thanks so much for doing them. So candid.
One of my favorite lessons yet. Loved your discussion on the abstract nature of music, and the comparison between piano and guitar, that's something I've thought a lot about as well.
been watching for about 1.5 yrs. never seen homeskoolin episode 1 before. very well said and played little tommy. thank you for homeskoolin! 🤟
Thanks for sharing that amazing lick. It’s so plush and melodic and authentic. Still shaking my head. Whoa. Musical poetry

Came to check out what you were up to on here, accidentally had my player on 1.5x speed and was like DAMN, Tom is comin' in hot!
Suddenly the my favorite channel. Thank you for taking the time to feed us.
The change is damn appropriate , love these lessons and insights. Thank you Tom.
Homeschoolin' is a great name! Thanks for the videos, Tom!
That's a great session of Homeschoolin' right there - Thanks Tom!
Wow, if every episode you do is as informative as this, then we're blessed! You kill it Tom!
You’re so right man. Piano players have such a vast grasp of arrangement and harmony and color, that’s why they’re usually the musical director in a group or the leader on a session date. True. The ideal is to learn music theory and composition on a piano and use the guitar for pure expression
.. We appreciate you Tom ....cheers 👍
I love these lessons!! That guitar sounds Bad Ass!!
This is outstanding , best show on the planet at the moment ! Man this is so fresh...
Morning Tom! Great videos - you're a huge inspiration to me! Thanks and happy easter =)

Man, Tom dropped a lot of gems in this one. Thanks Tom, such good wisdom from a session pro!
Best thing on YT right now! Thanks Tom! 👍🎸
Thanks Man! Love Homeschoolin' your lessons and all the insight in to the music session world is so cool. So tired of all this Corona crap ready for us to take back our freedom from this virus.... That dominate 7th cord exercise at the end blew my mind. I never thought of it that way...
Guitar in my hands, digging into 13:55
I love how you just sit the i phone down, plug the guitar in and go.Priceless moments dude.
Hey Tom, I love your wisdom on music without even playing a note. You have started me thinking about so much more just mechanical/muscle memory . Awesome job and thank your wisdom and bad ass licks.

Love it. Thanks Tom.
Marathon time... Gonna watch EVERY episode !!
That intro brought me back to one of my fave old Brit punk/pop bands the Undertones. Those guys were fantastic!
You’re a real cool interesting guy Tom! I look forward everyday for the next video!
Forgot to mention that I love these videos. Appreciate it Tom.
That Gatton Rhythm video was the best!!!! Another great episode.
I got into your videos a bit late, but they're so inspiring that I started from volume 1. One take, no editing, no production, only music : that's how it should be. Thanks man
I remember the ‘Session Man is like being a Plumber’ story from way back. Funny guy
thanks for doing this! probably the most interesting video i’ve ever seen here on youtube about sideman’s life.
"What you play has to frame the vocal" Wowwww...That's super good, bro. This is so helpful!
I like this kind of Homeschoolin’ 😊🎸👍. I like the therm old musician wisdom you talk about. Here is some old musician wisdom that I picked up along the way. One of my old guitar teachers once told me: Remember to play the pauses...It gives space to all the cool licks.

Homeschoolin, very cool, just started watching your channel, saw you with Tim Pierce, and was amazed with your talent. Thanks for sharing.
This is just what I needed today, thanks uncle Larry!✌️
Great video, Tom. Glad to see Lenny Breau get a mention; he's a beautiful musician. A lot of his chordal ideas were inspired by Bill Evans so it all ties back to what you're saying with regards to piano players and their harmonic capabilities.
Kind of Blue 4th’s🤘
Perfect football analogy. Very illuminating. Wisdom takes time. Thank you for imparting yours. Love it!
dude i just discovered you and have learned more in the last 18 minutes than18 months lol
That was an awesome comping lesson. 0_0 I'm overwhelmed. Thank you so much. Your generosity and honesty is much appreciated.

You’re Mike Bloomfield and Peter Sellers combined. A rare commodity of passion in a technical job. Mind blowing. I’m hooked.
