“It starts sounding expensive” is just a fucking perfect description.
And you can only buy it at the iron price
That's an old Paul McCartney quote.
LOL!!! RIGHT?!?! Perfect.
Way too funny 😂
Love that they were both cracking up throughout the jams too.
Great vibe 🎉
Best quote ever!
I’d say the hidden lesson in this video is the deep respect and authentic admiration these guys have for each other.
Tom Bukovak is worthy of a civilian medal of honor for making it not feel so desperate and hopeless during the lock down. Gave us all something to hang our hat on and you didn't nessessarily have to be a musician, his nuggets of experience and wisdom apply to many endeavors
You’ve nailed it
You know, somehow, I forgot about the horrendous context in which his channel was launched. It was an extremely bright light in a very dark time. Never thought I’d be nostalgic for the covid crunch time, but you’re right, Uncle Larry did something very meaningful for me and a whole bunch of us
Leland Sklar’s was like that too, and it is phenomenal. And led to a GREAT interview here.
And now that I think of it, Leland and these two would make for an incredible jam session.
Feel the exact same. Those first few weeks of COVID, i kept my sanity just by waiting for that video of his every day. Like it was the one thing that i used as the daily anchor early on.
Bukovac’s generosity of comment is endearing. What a terrific guitar pal he must be. Two impressive artists.
Guthrie Trapp changed the way I play after 50 years...he's an incredible player, teaches/preaches the fundamental stuff only, and is a chill humble guy.
Agreed
Same here.
Same for me too. GT preaches the CAGED system and playing over cord changes. It has changed my guitar playing to a new level. Thank you Guthrie!!
Same for me man. It's like someone turned the lights on and a teacher suddenly told me there had been a mistake and all the work I had done was not incorrect after all and in truth I had good grades and have been building on solid ground for years.
Love his teaching. 😎👊✨
@@gr1m0s yeah same - it’s a lesson hearing him play anything
I’ve been waiting for this one!
What up five watt?
I didn't know I was waiting for it, but I definitely was!
Me toooooo
Hey Keith!!! I'm enjoying this one too.
me also
All the guitar wizardry put aside. When Tom and Rick started talking about journaling for their children, it really hit me in the feels ❤ That was beautiful.
Yup
Like Rick, I’m in my 60s now. But I try to imagine being 54 with a 3-year-old son at home, and thinking I need videos to record some of my experiences.
It was indeed.
I am an Italian rock metal singer..I'm no guitar player....I am not familiar with these two gentlemen..........but I AM FLOORED and I can't stop watching.
The sound...............the hands..............the vibes.
Welcome to the club. Only a thousand-odd episodes to catch up on! 🤫
Tom Bukovac is freaking amazing....Look for his Uncle Larry videos
They are national treasures and Top Secret... 🤫
Welcome !! Hang on to your seat and grab your 🎸
Best bromance on the internet. Thank you Rick for sharing this with the world
Tom has quickly become one of my favorite players. Started fallowing him during lockdown. His videos always feel like a hang out.
A Music Store hangout. Remember he owned a store? Something about great players chillin' and jamming in a cool music store when it's slow and there aren't too many pesky customers walking around. I have seen music store jams that are so amazing I remember them 20 years later...like a comfy Barber Shop vibe...
He plays such unique and interesting stuff every time you listen in. Impressive range with rarely a cover version in the mix just pure noodling perfection.
And every now and then, around 2 or 3am Tom will drop the most gorgeous heartbreakingly beautiful guitar improv you could ever hope to hear. Tom's playing has moved me to tears in a time so very few even come close.
@@beachcomber4141Well said.
Same. Easy person to sit comfortably at the top tier of anyone's favourite guitarist list.
Just one creative and unique player!
Everyone needs a little Bukavac in their lives. What a beautiful man
Tears in my eyes when Tom talked about his boys, and then seeing Rick tear up also... Man, what treasure this is
Tom is a such a natural speaking on camera. He’s the only one who can get away with just turning on an iPhone camera and not editing.
As always, there’s a lesson there. Let’s not mention those whiny detractors that had a go at him for “production values.” He dealt with that one quick-smart! 😅
"but can you play it with good touch?" Yessssssssssss hahaha
Funny stuff right there...
Michael in the house! ❤
Hahaha!
This is guitar gold, diamond, platinum and a bit more… thank you 🙏
When Guthrie said "Hillbilly Jazz" the first thing I thought of was the late great Danny Gatton. He had an album called Redneck Jazz. The whole album is basically Jazzy Bluegrass.
It's a shame nobody mentions Danny in these videos. He towered above Nashville guys today. Sad.
@@ValiRossi It's also a big shame Danny Gatton's life was cut short due to the self inflicted actions he took from maniac depression. It's a very sad lonely life to try to overcome in such a gifted artist altogether. Just saying.. +Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend+ 🤘😜🤘
It’s also a shame no one mentions Scotty Anderson, the king of triple stops. What a player he is!
Seeing these guys really connect is so touching. Tom tearing up and Rick resonating with that point about leaving a record for their kids is one of those magical moments that make me grateful for platforms like this. We owe these fellas so much - they're not just sharing musical wisdom, but life lessons.
i've watched 20 minutes of this and its already one of the best music lessons i've ever had
I’ve watched these two knuckleheads so much I feel like I literally know them as friends. They’re tops in my book.
Gentlemen, it's been such a long time, since I've heard anything in music I wanted to put my dollars into....but you fellows sold me.
Thank you all. Leave it all on the table, open the windows and let us hungry prophet's be satisfied with your preaching notes that save us from the NOISE mislabeled as music. We are thirsty, crossing a 20 year desert wilderness.
“If you watch the internet” you’ll know these two. Indeed.
That applies to Guthrie Govan and Tom Morello 😂 ....I'd never heard of these two...
sorry work, i'll be back in about an hour or so.
LOL... yep...1:06:59 "Meeting" I have to attend! ;)
Said the extremely priveliged
Sorry grandma, I’ll see you in heaven ! 😂
Yeah, me too. 😂
LOL!!! I only had a half hour for lunch......I was a few minutes late getting back!
Ive a pretty open mind about music. If i like it, then I like it. I can't play but I love to listen and watch. The enery, enthusiasm, imagination and skill on show in this video is just awesome ❤
Simply Amazing, Loved it! Cheers from Canada
Been waiting for this!! Nashvilles finest!!! 2 legends. Thank you rick. These 2 masters are a true inspiration,. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Real musicians. Real music. Great discussion. Live. 🕯️
I love how most of these session legends always seem grounded, modest, and friendly.
It's much more powerful and effective than someone with an attitude. 🙂
Absolutely you nailed it ..
No bout a doubt it my friend. Having those qualities is one of the main reasons that seperates the most successful session players from the rest. There's certainly other things that go into being a sought after session musicians in the studio for sure. However a musicians persona in the way they present themselves to other artists makes all the difference for the most part. To put it plain & simple take the wise words my pop's told me as a kid growing up in life. 🤔 "If You're Cool, You're Cool. But If You're An Azzhole, Well Then You're An Azzhole, Beat It & Go Kick Rocks!" It's not very hard to understand really, right? 🙄 +++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend+++ 🤘😜🤘
❤ my fourth time watching, so far. Thank you so so much for doing this interview.
Love Tom's chill demeanor. I bet he is a happy dude.
Then he’ll be happy…..
@@tomcoryell 😂
it's from lots o weed. catch him on a day with no weed. haha! just kidding!
if he was happy he would be much worse at the guitar 🤣🤣🤣
Affectation. Me thinks.
This should have been a 3hr conversation, totally left me wanting more! Great job guys, love hearing true artists talk about there craft. A breath a fresh air.
So very insightful & informative....time well spent. Cheers!
Song at 01:06:18 was Poison “Talk Dirty to Me” 🤣
Awesome guys!
Buk was on point talking about GTs live playing. Hes devastating. If can catch his trio, do it. It’s some of the best and most authentic guitar playing you will ever witness.
@tdz69 I saw him at the Underdog and was smiling ear to ear the whole time. Also a very nice guy in person, humble and funny.
Agreed. As a compliment, and I say that because I’m not pigeon-holing, but Guthrie is a true jam band player. Energy revs up and up and up till you can’t touch him.
@@davidpepper442 extremely nice! Saw him some months ago and seeing him again this coming Tuesday in NYC. Before the show he’s just hanging out with people in the venue. Such a cool guy and beyond incredible guitarist. Seen him 5 times now. Three with John Oates.
In Stereo is an incredible record. Everyone should buy it! Very cool to see these guys play The Window live. Thank you Rick for another amazing interview.
This is a great interview and performance ! Every damn guitar player in the world should watch this video!
seems like two fun guys to hang with ..... no egos, and masters at their craft
Today is my 61st birthday - the perfect way to celebrate by watching and listening to two of my all time favorite musicians! Thank you Rick!!!
Happy Birthday!!!
Happy Birthday Sir!
Happy birthday Bill, what a cool thing to watch on your birthday 📺
Hillbilly Jazz made me think of Jimmy Herring an another astounding picker. Such a fan of Rick for helping to showcase these two monster players.
I’ve always wondered why I’ve never heard Rick acknowledge Jimmy Herring. He’s an absolute master and so versatile!
Herring's solos on Just Ain't Easy at the 2014 Gregg Allman tribute concert in Atlanta was just outstanding, especially the last one on the song.
Jimmy picks like Tom. Watch his right hand when he burns around. Wobble wobble. I believe it's called sarod picking, or scalpel picking. Also, John Mc Laughlin was one of the first to influence players in this technique. The sarod has a very deep body and players have to crank their arm over and down. Wrist twisting is natural in that position.
The first thing I thought of was the late great Danny Gatton. He had an album called Redneck Jazz.
Danny gattons redneck jazz explosion band he played with in the late 70s is some of the most mind blowing experience of music you’ll ever hear
These guys need to do a tour, and they would bank the whole way!! It's intriguing and inspiring for the guitarist and easily relatable for the non musicians. I keep comin back to this, their music is 🔥
Buk’s playing amazing,,so original. I’ve never heard him play the same thing twice.
The mutual admiration between Tom and GT is truly inspiring. There is more in this hour of video than meets the eye... or ear! Great interview once again, Rick!! 🙏🙏🙏
Agree!
I’m not a commenter on RUclips but I will for this video. These 3 guys take up 95% of RUclips feed. I watch every interview Rick puts out and I got so excited when I saw Guthrie and Uncle Larry were coming on Ricks channel. I’ve been checking RUclips constantly to see when the video was uploaded. These are 3 of the most musical musicians alive. I loved the interview
This is so much fun. These folks are so good. And then Rick tells us about it. Love it! ❤❤❤
I love these two guys for their musicality and humility and Rick for presenting them to a wider audience. Thank you all!
Tom is so awesomely humble. This was such a great interview.
Both these cats are amazing. I saw a Guthrie video with Kenny Vaughn, just ripping it up and I had that “why do I still play guitar?” feeling, then I remembered it’s not a competition.
As for Tom, I can never look at him without a big grin coming across my face, because he’s always got one.
Best video ever! I really enjoyed that. The playing, the honesty, the respect. Nice job!
What a treat. 3 of my most favorite musicians on earth in one room. Still can’t believe I saw Guthrie play and spend time with him being from South Africa. This video was truly inspirational
Dang... Guthries guitar sounds incredible.
It's been upgraded. It has Guthrie playing it.
@@DrProgNerd that's probably the whole point. I'm sure he could play about anything and sound great.
The hurricane has to wait, I'm watching Rick, Tom, and Guthrie
Awesome video. Never heard of these guys, what talent, and humble.
Great interview Rick - covers so many bases. Tom and Guthrie are two of the most likeable guys.
I’ve just discovered Tom Bukovac not too long ago and he has become one of my top favorite guitar players. The realness he delivers in his playing and the way he has a certain presence. He has that cool guy presence similar to the great G.E Smith. Amazing guitar playing and tone. Definitely inspires me to try to not only learn but have fun playing the guitar. Out of the videos I’ve seen of him he is always having fun.
Natural admiration and camaraderie between you three adds that perfect mode😉👏
This interview is amazing. Soo much knowledge being casually and lovingly shared. Oh my
Rick, your knowledge of music, voicing, modes, what ever else that beautiful mind has in it is always an absolute pleasure to watch/listen to. You are a national treasure.
Around the middle, love how Uncle Larry goes back to his habit of asking others cool questions 😂
Totally!!! I love it !!!!
Covid was a bad virus but it also helped bring new things to the table. Like “Home Skoolin” and Rick’s channels. Thank you all for your work and inspiration ! I appreciate it a great deal.
It doesn’t get any more down to earth than Tom and Guthrie. I sat in a parking lot and watched the whole episode.
Three of the coolest guys in music walk into a bar...I mean Rick's studio! That was awesome! Thank you!
F # Major with the added 4th and flat 7 is the greatest rock chord. Also known as the "Alex Lifeson" Chord
This is great sounding, but proves why artists need guys like Rick.
51:29 is so sweet. This shows me how ALL of us should try to leave some sort of story for our families. I wish, sincerely, wish I had talked to my grandpa and dad more. Moms and grandma's talk more easily..and I'm impressed you men are showing us the importance of sharing your experiences and thoughts. Prayers to you and your progeny.
This is one of the best music interviews ever. A wonderful coming together of personalities, of technical detail, performance, wisdom and passion. Thank you Rick, Tom and Guthrie.
I love Guthrie's neck pickup tone on a Tele. That's the sound in my head when I think of a Tele neck. Just stellar
I can't help but get a big ole grin on my face whenever I watch these cats play! Made my Monday!!!
I really enjoyed watching y'all together. Great preview of their new release as well. Great, jovial energy.
My dad was 50 when I was born - like being raised by a grandfather - a lot of wisdom I was too young to get, but I did later - many of those, "Oh, that's what he meant" moments - an amazing life influence...I bet your kids love you.
I am struck by their combination of unbelievable talent and genuine humility. Amazing interview, Rick, as usual!
Just watched a vide about three guys who represent everything that's still great about making music.
It brings me the fullest joy, and faith, that music this rich and complex is in the world. It’s never going away. Thank you guys for taking us along on this glorious road trip.
Totally inspiring, should have gone to bed but played my guitar for 2 hours instead after watching this, bought the vinyl as well 😊
Interviews with artists are my favorite part of Rick's channel. I want to see more of these!
These guy's are so entertaining to watch and listen to that I just laugh out loud at the level of awesome.
That Miranda Lambert song chokes me up every time the song goes to the 2 chord.
Love it! That blues turnaround lick gonna be all over instagram within a week 🤣
Lunch is now 1 hour 7 minutes longer. The client can wait.
GT and Uncle Larry @ Rick's - it doesn't get much better than this, boys and girls. I could listen to these three talk and play music for hours.
Who is uncle Larry 😂?
I did not expect that touching moment when Tom talked about his kids. Made me emotional too. That was beautiful.
Uncle Larry has the most soothing voice ever
I took a lesson from Guthrie a few years ago. Best musical decision ever!!!
Tom has incredible humility, also his voice is so calming.
The music just flows out of them. Just purchased the album on Bandcamp.
Hey folks (Beato, Trapp, and Bukovac) - great that you're recording what you want. Just wanted to say how the approach reminded me of the Lester and Chester records (Les Paul and Chet Atkins duets). Keep it up! :)
My three favorite guitar RUclipsrs in one place. Awesome. Tom has become my favorite player.
Tom's playing is so inspiring !
I recently discovered Tom and his channel and it's changed so much about the way I approach the Guitar and Music in general. He had one video about Triads that just made everything click for me. He quickly became one of my biggest Guitar heroes. This episode is so great Rick. The knowledge and wisdom that you, Tom and Guthrie give on the regular is unbelievable and irreplaceable. Thank you
I came because I heard the best of the best was going to be here. Three guys that are really good people having a good time. It was almost like I was there. As long as great videos like this keep coming the fear of real music and real musicians dieing out and being forgotten will be alive and well for future generations. A+ Rick!!!
These guys are my favorite here in Nashville! They’re as authentic and humble as they come and their playing and recordings speak for themselves. The new album is off the chain! 💪🎸
Guthrie did a version of Little Wing at NAMM in front of like 30 people that’s gotta be the absolute best playing I’ve ever seen. Pure technique AND emotion. The only problem was that I felt bad for the other guitarists on stage. It was transcendental.
Even after all these years and accomplishments, Tom and Guthrie take so much joy out of playing the guitar. It's an excellent lesson for all of us.
Blown away, man. Tom is my new Petrucci... JP was influential when I was younger. Never got to that level, but these two fellas, wow, re-inspire me all over again (23 years later)
I’ve been looking forward to this
to all the guitarists out there;
don't mess with guys from Nashville.
What a beautiful episode. You guys are inspirations. The turn at the end about why you started making videos had me tearing up. As much as it is a record for your kids, I hope you know that you will and have influenced a lot of other people in the process. Thank you.
Watched twice already. Not even for the guitar playing now, just the great vibes in the room
Great interview with a couple of the best in the business! And their new album is outstanding!!!
tom is the coolest guy alive
Yup
Wow. Great interview. In Stereo purchase completed on Bandcamp.
Oh man! This was so enjoyable and relaxed! Such a beautiful interview … if you want to call it so … obviously it‘s so much more! You are the last of the Mohicans doing creative and inspiring guitar playing! Thanx Mr. Beato for this!
