But, like a hostage with Stockholm syndrome, I’ve keep my TS-9 (and even the JHS Bonsai which I super dig). The Nobels are the 2nd gain stage after my compressor, before the Bonsai and ending w/ a Boss GE-7 with high mids boosted along w/ level. Add to that an Xotic EP Booster and I’ve got all the gain I need - slamming the front end of the amp just right to make it sing a little.

Great vid as usual, and great to see the mini getting some love considering it was trashed by the cork sniffers when it came out. It would have been cool to mix in a Nordland ODR-C with that selection too.

The chances of me being able to witness what was on display here from Tom, Ryan, Brett, Barry & Greg, without this channel, are nil. I never take it for granted. Amazing stuff. Thanks, guys. Thanks, Tom. 😎

Wow. This was, and _will_ be for future ones, fantastic! Thank you guys for putting all this work in doing those comparisons. Goes to show that surface mount tiny stuff is not necessarily bad. Great one Tom!

The first guitar pedal I ever bought was a Nobels ODR-1 back in the mid nineties. Didn't have a clue what it was and was desperately disappointed that it didn't sound like Nirvana. Didn't even know you were allowed to try out pedals in the shops first. Came back to it in my mid twenties and found a lot of uses for it. Now in my forties... I've cashed in, sold it. As you've demonstrated the new ones sound the same. Made my self a clone with some mods (the original Nobels shop schematic is actually out there and easy enough to find, complete with the never-implemented "boost" switch).
You should ask Nobels to make a signature version for you :)

So fun. Love the point about using your ears. Nice seeing you at the guitar last weekend in Franklin. Made my day. Thanks for all you do.

    This. Is. Awesome.
So fun to watch- had a smile on my face the entire time. You are a grade-A dude my man, as well as the guys at the shop taking time to do this.

That store is a gem. I bought a Greer Tomahawk on a visit there a couple years back. The employees were helpful and obliging to let a nobody like myself try a few things out before making a purchase.
Also, I think Uncle Larry’s greatest pearl of wisdom comes toward the end when he mentions the Nobels that he thought was killer with “this guitar and this amp” is one he’d never thought much of running it in his rig. It’s a testament to the benefit of testing a pedal on your own rig if/when you can instead of going by YT demos, reviews, etc.

That was awesome and a lot of fun. Hearing the reasons Tom liked and didn't like certain sounds was very insightful and helpful. Looking forward to more videos like this. Thanks

Rad!!! A big yes to more shootouts like this! Your commentary of what sounds bad is a great resource for ear training. Especially calling out the offending EQ ranges.
