While I don’t actually own a Klon, I do have a Jrockett Ikon I keep on my board as a clean boost that really fattens up my clean tone and sounds great with my strat. When I put it after my Timmy it’s amazing. My favorite overdrive tone after my cranked black face champ.

I love the Klon with teles, strats, 335s, Les Pauls and sgs played through ac30s, black faced fenders, tweed fenders, and plexis. To me its the best pedal ever made. I remember crying to Bill about the whopping $275 I paid for it. He told me to, “buy two”. I should’ve bought ten.
You have probably heard this 500 times already, but Tim Pierce said on his lates feed that he used to think Dan Huff was the best studio guitarist he had ever heard, then he heard you and now he thinks you are the best studio player he has ever heard. What ever you are, you are a guitar genius.
There is one huge upside (among many) to being separated. All my guitar work is done in heated and spacious comfort...and I can leave my guitar on the couch if I want. I have a workbench and a toolbox in one of my main floor rooms. The garage does not have the wife's car in anymore either. Lots of room for me.

I bought an ODR mini about 3-4 mos ago to dip my toes into the Nobels water and really liked what I heard. But, like a hostage with Stockholm syndrome, I’ve keep my TS-9 (and even the JHS Bonsai which I super dig). The Nobels are the 2nd gain stage after my compressor, before the Bonsai and ending w/ a Boss GE-7 with high mids boosted along w/ level. Add to that an Xotic EP Booster and I’ve got all the gain I need - slamming the front end of the amp just right to make it sing a little. 🙏🎸🤘🎶 Thank you tone gods!
I love mine. My local shop had one around 4 years ago or so. I bought it for $400 figuring if I didn’t like it I’d return it. I never returned it. And it hasn’t left my board either:).

Any modeler that I've ever played, no matter the cost, sounds like the guitar tone is pressed up against a plate a glass along with a faint layer of fizzle over the top that you cannot dial out. That's the best way I can describe it.

For the next shootout, you ought to compare the Nobels clones. IE: Wampler "Belle", J.Rocket "Chicken Soup", "Shanks", etc. and use the original as the "baseline". The "Nordland - ODC" is made by the same guy that designed the original ODR-1 when he was with Nobels. I'd love to hear Larry's opinion on that one also.
I love the shanks but if hazard a guess Buk would find it wayyy to bassy out the gate, which it kind of is (not the worst with a tele) but you have to fine tune it for your rig
@@justinguitarcia This was kinda off-hand, but he made a board for his son Marshall in one of the recent episodes and it had the Shanks on it. To be fair it also had an EQD Plumes on it, which is a Tubescreamer variant, so I guess he just didn't like what a stock TS does to your frequencies.

This video convinced me to get the Nobels mini. It arrived today. I'm taking a break after playing it through an old blackface Princeton Reverb and Les Paul Junior with a dash of EHX Memory Boy for the past three hours. I'm digging it a whole bunch. I had the original Nobels when they first came out and don't remember ever bonding with it like I am with this one. Thanks and praise to Uncle Larry!
Still digging it? I'm thinking of getting one, too. In the hearing test, it seemed that the DRIVE setting was kind of mild. Can you get a good modern lead tone out of it? I would want a little more distortion.

The first guitar pedal I ever bought was a Nobels ODR-1 back in the mid nineties. Didn't have a clue what it was and was desperately disappointed that it didn't sound like Nirvana. Didn't even know you were allowed to try out pedals in the shops first. Came back to it in my mid twenties and found a lot of uses for it. Now in my forties... I've cashed in, sold it. As you've demonstrated the new ones sound the same. Made my self a clone with some mods (the original Nobels shop schematic is actually out there and easy enough to find, complete with the never-implemented "boost" switch). You should ask Nobels to make a signature version for you :)
This. Is. Awesome. So fun to watch- had a smile on my face the entire time. You are a grade-A dude my man, as well as the guys at the shop taking time to do this.
That store is a gem. I bought a Greer Tomahawk on a visit there a couple years back. The employees were helpful and obliging to let a nobody like myself try a few things out before making a purchase. Also, I think Uncle Larry’s greatest pearl of wisdom comes toward the end when he mentions the Nobels that he thought was killer with “this guitar and this amp” is one he’d never thought much of running it in his rig. It’s a testament to the benefit of testing a pedal on your own rig if/when you can instead of going by YT demos, reviews, etc.
That was awesome and a lot of fun. Hearing the reasons Tom liked and didn't like certain sounds was very insightful and helpful. Looking forward to more videos like this. Thanks

He didn't like the Browne Atom, which is supposed to be an ODR-1 clone.

This video convinced me to get the Nobels mini. It arrived today. I'm taking a break after playing it through an old blackface Princeton Reverb and Les Paul Junior with a dash of EHX Memory Boy for the past three hours. I'm digging it a whole bunch. I had the original Nobels when they first came out and don't remember ever bonding with it like I am with this one. Thanks and praise to Uncle Larry!
Still digging it? I'm thinking of getting one, too. In the hearing test, it seemed that the DRIVE setting was kind of mild. Can you get a good modern lead tone out of it? I would want a little more distortion.

This was cool! I am not a Tube Screamer fan either and I actually bought a Tone City Nobleman(hope to someday get a Nobles) and besides it being bassy I just love it! Great little pedal! Really enjoying your channel Uncle Larry!

The first guitar pedal I ever bought was a Nobels ODR-1 back in the mid nineties. Didn't have a clue what it was and was desperately disappointed that it didn't sound like Nirvana. Didn't even know you were allowed to try out pedals in the shops first. Came back to it in my mid twenties and found a lot of uses for it. Now in my forties... I've cashed in, sold it. As you've demonstrated the new ones sound the same. Made my self a clone with some mods (the original Nobels shop schematic is actually out there and easy enough to find, complete with the never-implemented "boost" switch).
You should ask Nobels to make a signature version for you :)

So fun to watch- had a smile on my face the entire time. You are a grade-A dude my man, as well as the guys at the shop taking time to do this.
That store is a gem. I bought a Greer Tomahawk on a visit there a couple years back. The employees were helpful and obliging to let a nobody like myself try a few things out before making a purchase.
Also, I think Uncle Larry’s greatest pearl of wisdom comes toward the end when he mentions the Nobels that he thought was killer with “this guitar and this amp” is one he’d never thought much of running it in his rig. It’s a testament to the benefit of testing a pedal on your own rig if/when you can instead of going by YT demos, reviews, etc.
That was awesome and a lot of fun. Hearing the reasons Tom liked and didn't like certain sounds was very insightful and helpful. Looking forward to more videos like this. Thanks
