Joey, in short motivation is a happening that you respond to. Discipline is a choice that you make. And you can't always control what happens but you can always make a choice.
Feels good to hear! Today was such a nothing day. I felt like crap and did very little, but I went to my one class for the day and biked around the block, so that is a non-zero day!
This is not the first time I've heard the comparison of discipline/willpower to a muscle. Whether that's true in the truest sense, or even if it's just a good analogy, one thing to keep in mind about muscles is that you can overtrain them. I've studied a lot on training, partly to see what the minimal stimulus I need to progress is, but also to see what the stimulus is for optimal advances ("maximizing gains"), and contrary to a lot of broscience, it's not repetition until failure (at least for my sports of choice, mountaineering and climbing). In fact, one of the biggest mistakes beginners and those coming back to a sport after time off can make is "too much too fast". You need to gradually "up the resistance", give yourself enough time to recover, and keep in mind that the other analogy to muscle can also hold true: willpower is a reserve, like glycogen stores, that can be exhausted.
Thanks a lot for your videos! Just found you from one of you comments on a recent video by Thomas Frank. So glad I did - can't have enough productivity/organization/(dare I say) motivation tips!
i have been following your videos for a while now. You come up with such great contents and simple ideas and explain then even simpler , loving your videos . Keep it up!
The power of habit is such an interesting read. I agree with you that discipline will get you further than just being inspired or motivated about something. It is something that I take to heart everyday, and things are finally coming together for what I've been working on. Though I have to say I had to scroll down to stop watching your hat looking like something out of an impressionist painting and a cartoon character. Otherwise good video.
Hahahaha! Can you elaborate on what you mean about my hat? The backwards hat is my signature, yo! Just for the channel, though, not real life. Hardly ever wear it like that in public. Anyways, glad you, sort of, like the video :P
I used to like going to the library more than most. Kinda quiet spot study might have some outlets my grandparents did as well. I have some experiences socially where it awkward. Kindle should with time registry bulletin.
What if watching your videos is the reason why I am not doing the work I have to? Checkmate. Just kidding! Awesome video, can't wait for your next one!
I think I haven't been asked mid term or bigger ideas. It might have needs to get involved or appropriate planning occasionally or asside from differences. Maybe appropriate skills or manners about business practices
This is ironically motivating.
