Rebuild of the Dirtiest Carb EVER

- Today I tear into the carburetor off of the 1968 F250. As you may remember, the truck was originally on Dig's channel and it ran horrible. We test how well the truck runs after disassembling, cleaning and rebuilding the carburetor.

Come on Mook! Lets see some more content! Mr. Digs is a great wrencher but you take his videos to the next level...so you should charge him for appearances! Ignore the critics, you're awesome!
Instructions unclear, my truck became fuel injected and I am on fire.
I think stop, drop, and roll now or something?
@@wes11bravo He can't reply now...still smoldering in a trauma burn unit
Soot in the barrels will have no effect. and the bowl isn't that dirty.
A 2bbl, big block 2wd is to me the worst of all worlds. sucks gas, bad traction etc. I sold a 400 2wd ford in favor of my 225, 4wd dodge and am really glad I did! the Dodge has much better traction even BEFORE shifting it into 4wd! but the 4wd sucks as much gas as the big engine, so that part sucks.

A girl that can work on a carburetor is totally my kind of girl.
Yeah like she should be singing. Venturi. HIGHWAY
War Zone can’t understand how shit works until you tear it apart and see it for yourself. Books are useless without hands on experience
War Zone is over here giving off MAJOR neck beard douche vibes.
Too bad they don't know what carb cleaner in a spray can is for. You sure as hell don't want water in your carb when your trying to rebuild one. BAD CHOICE!!

I'm new to Mook but I'm definitely a Mook monster after watching.
Man something about your energy and personality is so wholesome. I don't care what the hell you're doing but you guys are the type of friends i wish i had
I will find a girl that's into cars and not afraid to dirty her hands , props to her !
"we're gonna go inside where there's warm and food" Mook you sound country as they get....LOL
@junkyarddigs should put a ring on her, she's a keeper! (y'all really do make a great couple, lots of fun to watch your channels!)
He bought a house with her! Great first step.
He could hide it in a carb as she's doing a rebuild.
he gonna mess around and ima swoop right in there just waiting on my spot he will piss her off sooner or later it always happens lol
I wish my wife took as much interest in cars as Mook does. your one lucky guy Kevin.
They're siblings
Beardedcap what?!? No they’re not..
don't think so Beardedcap !

that's a bit of a nasty comment. is your wife a stunning tall leggy blond model then ?
Just a Mook doin Mook things.
mook on mook off
Just Mookin’ around!
Go ahead,punk,Mook my day
So what in the HELL IS a mook any way? Vegetable, mineral, or animals?
@@markreisen7038 A Mook is that which cannot be defined by such rudimentary terms.
I have one of those off a 66 f100 352 v8 that is in perfect shape! It’s also for a automatic. 55F means 55 thousandth drill bit size. That was how autolite measured there jets! Same with Holley carbs!
#55 Drill bit size. Actually .052"
I find a handy dandy old toothbrush is perfect for gently brushing the crud away
Edit: I paused and typed this comment seconds before the mighty toothbrush was mentioned in the video 🙃
Mook always makes me smile just by being Mook! 😘
Thank you for your videos, they remind me of when my daughter got her first car... 1988 Dodge Duster. We had some great father, daughter time. She did all four brakes, plugs, cap, rotor and wires. Oil and filter. We had to replace some brake lines, so she learnd how to splice and bend brake line. She also took out the factory radio and put in a aftermarket AM/FM / CD player. So Mook keep up the good work and keep the videos coming
Pray tell, Dodge made Darts. Not Dusters. The Duster was based off of the Valiant. For a while they were known as Valiant Dusters.
@@markreisen7038 don't know how to respond to your comment ... it was a Mopar with duster badges...
@@markreisen7038 boy I'm glad we have so many expert to gump in. you miss my point all together.... you toothless wonder, it WAS a plymoth duster
I’m going to go look up what mook means and I’ll be right back...
9:59 LMAO! But in a way it's true. My I remember my father doing a partial rebuild of a carb on a 70's Ford truck sometime in the 80's and he purposely set the carb on fire after cleaning it as part of the process!
them are the best carbs ever built for any ford two barrel very dependable and simple and you can tune them how you like
@@dblaandy I have NOT got an ultrasonic cleaner as of this date. It is a wonderful machine to REALLY clean a small part. HF has 'em, but get a big one. Great for many small parts. Want them clean? Get one.
I did the whole 'setting the car on fire' thing after working on the fuel injection system. Not sure it helped 🤔.
That dirty carburetor was probably quite good when it was last rebuilt in 1975 :) Nice work in cleaning and rebuilding it, Mook and Kevin.
Yass more junkyard mook content🤘
Mook Has a really nice way about her and I think she’s a great addition to your channel collaboration. I wish you all the best. I watch thunderhead 289 as well
Mook, you really need to wear nitril gloves with carb cleaner! it will mess up your hands good if you don't !
Gloves are for GIRLS. Your not soaking your hands in it, that's fine. Youse better judgement and you won't have any problems.
@@markreisen7038 I have personally messed my hands up with that stuff in my youth.. that is why I left a comment..
Me and my girlfriend think you guys are soooo cute, then I ask her if she wants to work on my car with me and she goes '...nooooooooo'
Mook's Carburetor Shop would make a crapton of money.
I had a service for my guys in my day. $10 + the cost of the kit. DID make lots of money in 1965 dollars!
A good carburetor guy can make bank these days, because there's still demand, but nobody knows how to do it.
@@Jerkwad152 Every decent carb rebuilder that I know of is backed _way_ the hell up. Even some of the . . . not-so-good ones have more business than they can handle.
If you even look at that stuff your hands smell like it for days after.
As a Certified Master Toilet Tech (plumber), I approve of this message.
It's all part of being a Shadetree mechanic. If you don't like, leave it alone!!!
“Step number next...” 😂
Pretty girl that works on cars and likes metal. Don't fuck that up it wont happen again.
10:40 That face she made. Hahahaha!
I remember when carb dip actually worked before they took out all the good stuff. There was nothing left on the carb after a 45 minute soak. It took off everything with no scrubbing. It looked like new. I used Gunk the last time and it worked about the same as yours.
Especially the Berryman Green stuff...oh, good god, how well it worked!!!
I only watched this because Mook is wearing a Metallica tshirt!! lol
I only watched this because Mook
" ... sorry about your toothbrush Luke ... " lol.
Those tags were on brand new carbs and indicated the calibration level of the carb. May be OEM. There are no simpler carburetors out there than the Motorcraft 2V.
Love this channel. Mook and her/your content. Always informative and a joy to watch. Keep up the good work guys!
2.5 turns out on the idle mixture was the old school rough setting to get it running before tuning. I'd bet millions never got set properly.
She works on cars and wears a Metallica shirt? Hell yeah!!
Two thumbs up 👍👍 and some metal horns🤘!! Keep up the good work girl!
I use an electrolysis tank to clean the carburetor. I originally built it to strip cast iron. Works really well.
Tip: buy an oven tray or cookie sheet with a lip, do the teardown on that and keep all parts on it.
Not necessarily a Rebuild Tag, Ford (Autolite or Motorcraft) used those Carb tags as well from Day 1 new....Just an FYI... Tony K.
NEF aurora Yep. Seen those tags on new carbs. Actually that tag can be a good indication that the carburetor has NOT been rebuilt. Seems like that tag is never put back on by “rebuilders “.
Ultrasonic cleaner and a heavy duty degreaser would seem to be more efficient and effective but little elbow grease and she be Cleaned up good and new.. sometimes elbow grease works better then cleaners @Junkyard Mook
Great breakdown video Mook and Kevin very entertaining as well @Junkyard Mook
That VGG hat. Nice work. I am rebuilding the same carb this weekend.
The idea is to soak the carb overnight for better reaults. Carb cleaner is strong stuff. Wear gloves
more content Mook..
A little jelous of Mook's girly hands, my XL meat hooks have always gotten in the way of such delicate work
Carb build number 6? You put that one together like it was #60! Well done!!
This brings back so many memories! The last carb I rebuilt was a Holley two barrel I had on my 77 Lincoln Mark V... yep I said two barrel, not four....
Yeah this was Ford's way of trying to increase fuel mileage before they went to fuel injection in the early 80's. I had an old f-150 with a four barrel 460 that got better mileage than my Gran Torino with a 400 two barrel. Go figure.
PPE is needed by both of you! Gloves, goggles, and maybe even a respirator (mask). It's fun watching you two resurrect some of these rust-buckets in Iowa.
I suppose they have lower miles than usual and look the way they do due to the harsh winters of Iowa. I know, I grew up in IL.
Here in CA, my 1994 Ford Bronco only has some minor surface corrosion underneath, and the tailgate has rust that has formed (inside) due to trapped water. However, I just bought a new metal tailgate (painted primer black from factory) and will be painting it white (color of the truck), and installing all new innards (window motor, regulator, rubber trim etc).
And a couple of drilled holes at the bottom? ☺
MOOK I'M NEW TO YOUR VIDEOS I LOVE WHAT YOU DO. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING YOU ARE MY FAVORITE GO GIRL.
Wonderful to see you two at work. Good job on the carburetor. You can also use a paintbrush when brushing clean.
And now it sits in your 64 f250 flatbed
Absolutely love mook hands on funny girl can work on my motor anyday
second time watching this and shared it with my friend who said mook is so cute
I have the exact same carb on my 61 Galaxie, and just rebuilt it with the same kit. Love the simplicity of these. I converted mine to manual choke for even less complication. I got rid of the exhaust butterfly valve and tapped the exhaust manifold hole for the choke heat tube and put a bolt in it. Works great.
You guys definitely need to invest in a couple of old toothbrushes for scrubbing parts haha
Edit: and as soon as I comment THE TOOTHBRUSHES COME OUT AHHHH
I'm always impressed with crazy mechanics who work in all kinds of adverse conditions. I wanna be crazy like that again. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Mook...if you want to keep them pretty little hands you better use gloves!...😘

Floaty mac float face had me on the floor bud. Boaty had a good larff too. BTW, they both "float"
I love the fact that Mook isn't afraid of getting her hands dirty. She is not scared of getting dirt or grease under her finger nails. Very rare to find a woman like that. Don't lose her....
Mook has the cutest smile on RUclips.
Does Mook have to master Carb rebuilding before you ask her to get married!? Lol
If im right...the square tag is the carb part number to use when ordering parts that came on it when it left the factory. Every motorcrap carb ive built had one.
You are correct. I was getting ready to comment that it's not a rebuild tag.
You can do more than the mechanic I worked with
Nice and shiny ohhh Very Purdy
What no military universal cleaning tool #1.?
Aka toothbrush.
Metallica, Mook and Carbs!! Awesome stuff. Love the rebuilt carb / Flamethrower! ;)
Watching a couple have fun. You guys are making life a little more enjoyable. Thanks
Please wear gloves when using chemicals?
Love the enthusiasm. Great job on the carb and a fantastic attitude. Just joined up great vids.
How do you remember which screw goes where when you have to put it all back together?
Nice vid Mook! For better results let the carb sit overnight, just don't leave anything rubber or gasket material on it.
Good to see a brass float...Mook your doing a Super job!
Use a brush to get the carbon off after dipping, it gets into the corners more effectively. Ah, you just got the toothbrush out. Love the vids!
Seems you forgot the accelerator bowl vent link. Now the float bowl is open to the air.
Years ago when you could work on your own car my mate and I would take everything that was not working and rebuild it from the carb to even putting new valves in doing the clutch the suspension nearly a rebuild of old 50,s and 60,s cars but now just about know enough to refuel the car
Your viewers are Mook monsters!
dalice johnson I love my Mook Monsters 🤘🏼
@@JunkyardMook You have beautiful fingernails like my Mom had, take care of them from the harsh chemicals. I had a few carburetors in my time, I think at least looked like yours before re-build.
I use a toothbrush and brake cleaner on the metal parts to lower the dirt/carbon build-up before soaking.
Where r u guys working at
I have to say your editing of you guys videos is well done !!
The old chem dip would actually destroy/eat metal if left in too long. The new stuff is alright but I brush it before rinsing it and WEAR GLOVES!
Doing great Mook, new subscriber here. Got recommend from VGG
Mook almost pulled a luke concussion great vid by the way 😂🔥
aaannnnnd those backfires probably blew up the powervalve in the carb.......
Always verify the ignition system is good proper order, no vacuum leaks, timing is set correctly, generally with the vacuum line disconnected from the advance can and plugged off. Make sure the distributor weights are not frozen or hanging up, centrifugal springs in place and not broken or missing.
Adjust the mixtures screw out 2 turns. Choke on, and don't rev the engine (never rev a cold engine!).
That's where i've been going wrong rebuilding carbs, I didn't set them on fire! Ta for the tip Mook :)
June...guess by now you've discovered the vent for the float chamber was left off...
Use a sonic toothbrush...spring for it; don't be cheap. And....use mechanic's gloves!!! Love your vids!!!
Carburetors are easier to work on than Fuel Injection. My last truck I owned I retired it with 762K miles with a Carburetor on a 454 Big Block Chevy Power House. It only got 6 MPG. I have always worked on my own vehicles up until my retirement. Now I have my first Fuel Injected Truck, which I’ll leave it up to the Kids to fix when needed, I have no Exp in Multi-Port Fuel Injection systems, first time to get 26 MPG now, Last and final Truck I’ll ever own. A young lady like Moog doing “OldSchool” Mechanics is a wonderful sight, Thank You.
WHAT DO YOU USE AS A "SOLBVENT" WHILE CLEANING THESE PARTS?!... "STODDARD SOLVENT?",.... "KEROSENE?"....?
Hey Love the video, try using some detail brushes to clean all the carbon that's in hard to get places, might make your life a little easier. Just trying to help. Great video.
What man wouldnt love Mook for a wife. She's funny, always up for an offroad adventure or backyard shananagins, and has an adorable, infectious smile.
Well done sir! I LOVE YOU MOOK
I’ve been through a few of those at a Ford dealer years ago. They work great when your done. Good work.
Hi Joe. Me too.
That’s a nice “diehard” batree you got there In the beginning of the video. I say that because advance auto/carquest just swapped brands to diehard. I remember taking all the carquest stickers off and put the diehard stickers on the battery’s we had in stock.
This was the price for restructuring human society from draft animal to the combustion engine. Everything is now faster but everything is now far away. Formerly in every village was a grocery, drugstore, school, doctor, crafts businesses, friends, relatives. Now with the invention of cars, we have to drive ten miles to buy food, twenty miles to see a doctor, thirty miles to work, a hundred miles to see friends. Nice advancement.
Looks just like the 2 barrel that burst into flame in my 66 Mustang. I ditched that thing for a new 4 barrel that actually made power.
Mook - you are cute and I love that you know your way around cars... but PLEASE wear gloves and glasses when using dip-style carburetor cleaners. As my firefighter brother-in-law says, that stuff has "methyl-ethyl-death" in it. My paternal grandfather was a professional mechanic and he spent his last working years rebuilding carbs. In the last 15 years of his life, he was was plagued (read: destroyed) by Parkinson's Disease - something no one else in the family has had. We're convinced it was due to his exposure to those chemicals. PLEASE be safe and protect yourself!
I always used jet spray Gumout to clean my parts. Squeaky clean!
brake cleaner or starting fluid (ether) do wonders as well. They're probably all basically the same chemicals
If you want to clean crap off really well, magic sponges (Melamine foam) are brilliant. If you need to clean brass, ketchup, seriously... ketchup.
Dammit!!! Wear nitrile gloves for that shit. I've watched my Grandpa and my Dad go through all kinds of neurological disorders. I am (sadly) waiting my turn.
Woah... cute chick in a Metallica shirt rebuilding a carburetor from an old truck... perfection personified... Are you single? If not, do you have a sister? If so, does she like the same music and old trucks?
LOL na... I'm serious.
