From 1973 to 1982 I worked at the Ford Motor factory in San Jose CA. In the "commercial" end of the plant we built the F1-2-3 pickup trucks 25 per hour 2 shifts 6 days. We shipped them everywhere. The F150 Explorers were gorgeous trucks & Jade green is the color here. We used to wonder where all of the trucks were going as we made them day after day after day. In the factory they were brand new pieces of art with their 6 cylinders, 302, 351, 360, 390 & 460 engines. 2 wheel drives, 4x4 in standard & automatic. It saddens me to see while this unit is a survivor that it ended up as it did. Speaking in behalf of the thousands of workers at the plant we took a lot of pride making those trucks. It's "very green"??? Some of these trucks had inline 6's, which were very efficient, and I would even call a 302 green, but with this engine it is only slightly greenish, only because it is reused, the second R. not part of the throwaway society.
The ideal engines for this truck are as light as possible to maximize 2wd traction and mileage, so I would use 200 inline 6 or 3.0v6, though it is not worth removing good engine or matching trans and bellhousing. some people like big engines, so if you can make it go, then fix and sell. I'm also not completely satisfied that the carbs were hopeless.
@@alan6832 depending on the transmission they may not have to. I could be wrong but fords 4.9 300 inline 6 could possibly bolt up to it. If not then they would probably need an adapter plate
The 300 CID worked well in many Ford trucks and vans of that era. A very solid engine, though a 351w, as Kevin suggested in the video would work as well. Otherwise, if I were Mook, I would drive as is with a new set of plugs, a rebuilt carb and a cleaned fuel tank.
I had a 73 it had a 302 2 barrel automatic . 2 toned green pea green on top forest green on the side . I liked that truck . This brought back memories . Thank you .
I had a 78 and when you pop the hood you always have to give her a little tap on the top to get her to pop. The door replacement panels are crazy expensive to buy new so I went to all the local junk yards and bought all the unbroken ones I could find. I had sets of black, tan, red, green and blue. I also had a kick ass head liner with 4.5" round speakers in the cab corners. Those trucks with the split rear window are a leaking rust nightmare. All the split window trucks will start rusting the cab below the window. I replaced the holes in the floor with speed limit signs and other old street and then laid new carpet over the top. If you go with the 302 make sure you get the right fly wheel because some of them are different on the 302 depending on year and the wrong one will cause horrific shaking and vibrations.

@@hyzercreek You mean the song with the Flatbed Ford Truck, also known as a Stake Bed truck, you know the ones that the farm girls drive, as opposed to a regular pickup truck bed. What's those other lines from the song? Lighten up while you still can, take it easy. I know you like the really old cars, but I'm pretty sure the song is about a farm girl in a flatbed Ford, not a girl driving around in an old time flat head rat rod......If anyone knows a girl driving around in a flat head Ford, leave a message. Mook is a sweet kid. Cute as she can be and funny. Reminds me of my daughter a ton. My daughter doesn’t take too much anything seriously but at the end of the day she is a tremendous help.
I've owned many 351m and 400 Fords. Put a small cam, good timing set, cheap fenderwell exit headers, intake and 4 barrel on it. They are strong runners. Although they have lower compression some cam and ignition timing can work wonders. The heads flow well and will bolt right on a Windsor series block, but you need a few mods for cooling.
Youthful optimism! Brings back the good ol' days when every rusty old hulk had potential. I hope you flushed the power steering, rear axle and trans/converter. That engine's a keeper, work on the rest of the driveline and you're all set. Grease everything up, oil the hinges, latches...Nice solid F-150 there! Nice work on the brakes, and try to find a junkyard-core carburetor for her? Drop the pan, clean the oil pickup screen. Best of luck with your truck, Mook!
My friends, the first thing you should have done after you found that much water in the oil pan, was to find out where it came from. ….. from what I have seen, you should have filled the radiator with as much water as it would take.... then wait 15 min. and check it again. If it is lowered add more water, and wait 15 min. And then look to see if it comes out the oil pan. (you may have a crack inside the engine block and the water is coming from the radiator.)
That was a lot of fun to watch! Owning one of these myself, it was kind of heart breaking seeing the condition it's in, but awesome to see it moving under it's own power again! Mine also has the 351m with a c6 automatic, all original, still going strong. Keep up the cool content!!

@@TheSleepingonit Me too!
Same here
I saw it after Vice Grip Garage...
These old engines are rock solid. You can't kill them!
Even being full of water, I wasn't concerned.
You guys are so awesome! Keep making videos. So glad Mook has a channel, too!
I love this!!! the excitement the step by step going thru the truck got me excited to go out back and get my 78 k5 blazer running!!!
That Eagles tune “ It’s a GIRL my lord in flat bed Ford!”
Opening sequence with Mook!
Ridin’ round to take a look at me!
You mean the song where he was thinking of Flathead Ford but he didn't know anything about cars so he said flatbed Ford. Yeah. But there is such a thing as FLATHEAD Ford.
I've talked to long now, Maybe Joe Walsh or Glenn Frey's estate can tell us just what that girl was driving.
@@hyzercreek how in the h*** do you know what he was thinking?
@@otherstuffbybob she was driving a flat bed ford ,slowing down to take a look a him!!........I get so irratated when people quote lyrics wrong too!!.......not riding around
"It's what the people want" You are a riot, Mook.
I liked the "Tim the Toolman's" hi de ho neighbor ending with the eye's!
Mook is a sweet kid. Cute as she can be and funny. Reminds me of my daughter a ton. My daughter doesn’t take too much anything seriously but at the end of the day she is a tremendous help.
Need to check the trans and rear end fluid.
Wow...ur smart🤓
@Ranaldo Bobsled Just make sure there's no oil in the water!
@Ranaldo Bobsled
Water cooled everything
checked it off camera?

That was a fun repair. I love the 70's machines because we can actually work on them. It's even my favorite color. Sweet!!!
You are so right give me an old school truck anyday. I own 6 of those 70s Fords. You can climb under the hood and work on them.
I prefer carburetor powered v8 motor like a Ford y block 292 in a 58 ford f100
I love “everything is going good, there’s just a little fire”.
My first vehicle 21 years ago was a 1977 Ford Explorer custom. Thank you so much for taking me down memory lane!!!
I put a couple turbos on my to get around the low compression.
Only did 550hp at the rear wheels.
Never had an issue.
Love the dinosaur engines.
She's wearing a Vice Grip Garage hat! I love that channel! I'm now subscribed to junkyard Mook, notifications on!
Oh well duhhhh!! THAT'S why it came up in my feed after watching Derek lol!
I do dig some Miss Mook. Kinda reminds me of the Mackenzie Phillips character from American Graffiti, but just a touch more surly 😁
She's a lot prettier than Mackenzie Phillips.
Mckenzie philips, yes 👍 Something was tickling my brain. I knew she looks familiar
That's who she reminds me of too! Mook is a really sweet girl.

Carol, two point oh. And not a grungy little twerp anymore, lol!I think Milner would approve!
Love it when Mook and Digs knuckle things out
I love it a woman who isn't afraid to wrench on a truck
Youthful optimism! Brings back the good ol' days when every rusty old hulk had potential.
I hope you flushed the power steering, rear axle and trans/converter. That engine's a keeper, work on the rest of the driveline and you're all set. Grease everything up, oil the hinges, latches...Nice solid F-150 there! Nice work on the brakes, and try to find a junkyard-core carburetor for her? Drop the pan, clean the oil pickup screen.
Best of luck with your truck, Mook!
3:13 That truck was holding it in all those years! The truck had to go and it definitely went! Lol
“Beautiful Crazy” describes Mook pretty well.
(you may have a crack inside the engine block and the water is coming from the radiator.)
i agree. i dont think it was a flood vehicle as there are not any water lines inside that i could see. most likely a coolant leak into the oil.
That was a lot of fun to watch!
Owning one of these myself, it was kind of heart breaking seeing the condition it's in, but awesome to see it moving under it's own power again!
Mine also has the 351m with a c6 automatic, all original, still going strong.
Keep up the cool content!!
Hey Mook, thanks for saving and bringing that F150 back to life. We all owe you one.
Mook on the swing about the shirt on the website commercial is hilarious 🤣🤣 @26:10 @Junkyard Mook
Sweet ride...and a great couple. Hope they both last a lifetime
And cool truck too 😆
I swear those trucks came off the assembly line with exhaust manifold leaks.
This really is a small world. I love seeing other channel owners commenting on other channel's videos. Been subbed to your channel for a while, Wes. I've been trying to talk my brother out of trying to find a non running Polaris 4 wheeler thanks to your most recent video, lol.
ROFLMAO 🤣

@@Shane-Singleton Everyone needs a dead Polaris to work on!
@Tsunauticus III I'm everywhere...
This very old female car head found this thoroughly entertaining. And I watched from the comfort of my home.
We need more funny people in this world like Mook! Funny people rule! 👊🏽
Mook, you're a really cool person. I'm glad that your channel is doing so well. A half a million views on such a young channel is awesome. Keep up the good work and I will keep watching. Good job.
Words you never want to hear when speaking about stuff coming out of the exhaust pipe, “Do you think we have a gallon yet”
This video was made recently but somehow it's giving me nostalgia for a time I didn't even live. It makes me think of the girl I wanted to be when I was little. Very cool work on the truck!
Mook just makes my day when I'm feeling down.
She is such a goofball ❤️
But in an a extremely cute way.
She is the reason I watch your videos.
Keep being yourself.
"Non-believers die first" had me laughing for a good 5 minutes.
Your format is spectacular. You actually concentrate on wrenching, not trying to entertain your followers by making up juvenile words and phrases for everything, while talking with a fake southern accent. You can tell everything you are doing is genuine. Please don't change a thing. SUBSCRIBED!
@Williams Susan Outstandung!! You? Hope you're going to rock this again 🙂
@Williams Susan Hanging out trying to recover from the hurricane that just kicked our butts down in florida. I live on the water and we got shellacked.
@Williams Susan I posted my email. Hope you got it but didn't want it up for too long.
@Williams Susan Posted it twice. Then you disappeared
You can also fill it with Kerosene or Diesel fuel and let it sit overnight then drain it. Cleans like magic. A lot of crap will come out.
Dam I need to find me my own junkyard Mook lol
Same man! Same!
I too wish I had a mook.
Awesome, really enjoyed watching other folks work on the truck, I’ve worked on all my vehicles; Enjoyed the Video greatly. Oh, and by the way, much respect for the young lady knowing and learning more about mechanics.
I absolutely loved this video. Long live the Green Machine!!! Mook, keep us updated on the progress!
Love how you guys have fun while working! Its very entertaining, keep finding them.
"Opens hood with secret tap". Yeah, I think she knows what she's doing folks...
Why do I get the feeling that Mook bought this truck based entirely on the fact that it is green?
Honestly I would
Hmm, ...
I knew a good old country girl back in high school that had a 67 C10 I think she called it *_Aquafina_* for the blue patina.
ya cant go wrong with a green F-whatever...
unless u get stuck in traffic on a hot summer day...
I'm in love a girl that knows her way around a Ford and that likes 70's model ford pickups
Are you kidding me that’s the best kind.
@Marshall Davis she doesn't want a boomer like you
thats what i did for 40 years im 62 now got to love the old trucks and cars lol thats how you learn
It's not a complete Mook experience until Mook mimics the act of stabbing something.
Read this comment right as she was doing it 😂😂
Mook, if you can copy this then you can get into the big trucks you like. ruclips.net/video/l3uxjaOhaUE/видео.html
Luv. That girl!!!!
The stabbing is important 🤪
These two make entertaining vids but I wouldn't want to be around her in a kitchen full of sharp cutlery. She's what you would call, let's see;... flighty, volatile, unpredictable.
NEVER EVER PUT GAS IN THE CRANKCASE .

Allways. Never gas!
Yep, gas is a solvent, diesel is more like oil
@@curtisj2165 use kerosine

Mook's a barrel of laugh's. Looking forward to seeing what you all do with this truck.
WOW! I'm loving this channel, just binge watched every video. This was fun, just what I needed after crawling around under my rusty ass ford in the rain for 2 days! Keep up the great work!!
That's probably the most fun 36 minutes I've spent on YT in a really long time.
Thanks guys.
ive learned so much about carburetors and engines and vehicles in general from watching you two. keep u[p the great work!
She'll have no problems when the zombie apocalypse happens, you can just tell
It's beautiful, I love the late 70's shape
Square body is the best.
the ford f150 probably caught up in all the flooding back in 2019 in the heartland ..thats why the water in the engine is recent
I have no idea why I’m so fascinated by your videos. I can’t work on vehicles. You explain things very well. I learn things from you. ❤❤❤❤
