Couldn't agree more. I think a lot of people tend to overlook this. They don't realise lighting plays a HUGE part to the overall mood and graphics of the game. I especially liked how when you enter from a dark to bright area it takes awhile for your 'eyes' to adjust and the whole screen is just too bright and also vice versa, it's so dark you can't see anything and your 'eyes' slowly adjust to see in the darker atmosphere. Superb work!

@James Gravil it's honestly an engine problem. UE has had texture issues for a long time. Not to mention the texture loading issue varies and is not the same for everyone. I've seen people on stream chats being like "hmm my game looked much better than this" and stuff like that. There are also some parts that are clearly backdrops and more than likely intended to be an homage to the original FF7. I highly doubt that one specific one at least was an actual accident, when clearly it already looks far better elsewhere (comparing to say, the plate skybox in chapter 3, 8, or 14.). Kitase himself makes mention of all the artists they had to bring together just to make one of those exact backgrounds back in the original game (mostly referring to chapter 15.) in the artbook which further makes me think part of some of the low res backgrounds are a design choice. All in all though part 1 is filled with plenty of beauty, and Midgar is *supposed* to look like an industrial dark city where its underbelly is the equivalent of living in a scrapyard. It's perfectly realized IMO, just needs a texture fix. Like, a big one. A lot of character models aren't fully loaded half the time plus all the crazy grass textures and, well, there's a lot. It didn't really impact my experience but it's something that can easily be patched or simply resolved by PS5 SSD (backwards compatibility hype) and PC release.

The biggest issue they had this time regarding it was their partnership with Cyberconnect 2. After CC2 spent 2 years working on it, they were incredibly behind schedule and the work they were producing was lackluster, so the partnership was dissolved and the entire project ended up getting scrapped and restarted in-house.
Now that they've got their own team working on it, and already have a lot of the resources (assuming they dont change engines for future titles), it shouldnt take nearly as long for the next games in the series to come out.

I'm in chapter 14 of the game right now and I must say that I've been blown away. This video is about the graphics, so I must compliment that facial expression and camera work AI you use, everything I've seen has been so spot-on...and like how one or two were talking about timing of effects - the battles feel so impactful when timing is done well like it is here. Pauses or big booms make you feel like you're smashing enemies but the lighter hits feel fluid still. The whole world has been a joy to just stare at, honestly; I think more than anything else, simply staring up at the plates above really took my breath away...you never got to do that in the original, it makes you really see what kind of situation they're in down underneath that rotting pizza. I do hope you get the texture loading issue patched soon, but other than the occasional unloaded texture, everything has been amazing.
Looking back at episodes 1-4, I still think everything else has been great, too...characters, development, animation, environment, enemies...I've died a few times and I really like that.
There are exactly and only TWO negative comments I have:
    1) The song in the wrecked highway area of Sector 6...it feels like if Wutai had a Wall Market, not like an abandoned, collapsed highway...literally every other piece of music I've heard has been amazing. I didn't even miss the snapping fingers in the Turks' theme after about 5 seconds.
    2) There are a couple areas that feel like FF13 hallways...they don't last real long, but having a couple side areas or alternate paths through them would make them feel SOOO much more open. This hasn't really hampered my game experience, they just weren't as interesting as they could be with a little extra work.
    GOOD JOB, GUYS.

@@brannycedeno6823 Uhm... I'm not sure who you're referring as "that guy" at the beginning, but actually... Kitase was FFVII director XD
Nomura and Toriyama were, respectively, character designer and event planner.
Kitase gives a very distinctive "grounded and real" feeling to his games, I miss him honestly.
Since Nomura is more random and goes by the philosophy of "wouldn't it be cool to see this" despite if it makes sense or not. look no further than the KH saga.
FFVIIR actually hasn't a real moment, except the ending, where you can pinpoint either of Nomura or Toriyama. There are instances now and then where the game feels pretty nomura-esque (like when Marlene appears like a ghost for no actual reason... that's Nomura BS for you...)
But the ending, oh boi, that's like Nomura Unleashed...
A plot that totally doesn't make sense for the sake of surprise, "you're expecting A? Then I'll go B. It doesn't make sense? I don't care" :\

Story changed yes, because keeping the original story intact 1:1 would have resulted in the overall experience of the remake falling flat. They knew it, I knew it, anyone that understands what makes experiencing a story for the first time ever magical, should understand it. I for one, think it's genius what they're doing and here's why... it's like experiencing the story for the first time ever all over again, but in a different way. It's more deep. It lays the groundwork for higher stakes than before and it also lays the groundwork for allowing us to make choices in future episodes to explore the what if's that we were only able to dream of in the original FFVII. I suspect they'll allow you the choice to make decisions that more closely reflect the original or decisions that have dramatic changes to the original plot. That would give us a new angle on why certain things had to happen or not happen the way they did in the original FFVII, which enriches the original story even more. I would wait until the complete series has been released before criticizing these guys. Because once again, 23 years later, none of us know for sure what happens next, a state of wonder and anticipation that disappeared after playing the original over and over. On a side note, I'm glad I didn't play through Kingdom Hearts. Never really cared for it.

If it were possible, they would have made a free roam Midgar as well. Just don't get your hopes up. What I could see happening is that you will traverse through large regions and that these are separated by chapters in game 2, and that the third game will bring all regions together with an airship. Give the developers a break, they did a really hard job, they don’t owe us anything at the moment...I intend to play and replay part 1 to explore it and discover as many details as I can instead, might even replay the original...or focus on other stories in the meantime...give them time to create part 2. :/

Also it’s only been 2 weeks or so since the release (not even a month), many of us haven’t finished part 1, many people will replay it again to collect all the trophies and get the extras...seriously like learn how to be patient, games, music and movies do take time, I’m tired of seeing needy people who need to be constantly fed details about next instalments...it’s sufficient to know that they are already working on part 2, but since we have the covid-19 pandemic things might be slower since they can’t work in large groups or in the same office at the moment (that’s how it is in most countries)...

although I believe that FFVII story is poetic or cryptic, it's not self-explanatory. I doubt there will be definitive (official) answer for the whole story. it will be leave as "open to interpretation".
