Before my father passed away when i was a child ffvii and ffviii were the last two games me and him would sit and play together everyday after school. I was about 7 years old then and i remember one day my dad must have been playing for awhile and i suppose he forgot to save because well.. i was playing around and unplugged the playstation andddd.. lets just say i didnt get to have any fun for a few days after that 😅.. so for me final fantasy 7. And the final fantasy games altogether are one of the few vivid memories i have left of me and my father and that makes it hold a special place in my heart and ill always feel a certain closeness to him even though he's gone everytime i play them.
@Captain Caveman There is a vast amount of years (don't remember how long) between the end of FF7 and the after-credits cgi sequence you're talking about and we the players have no idea what happened during that time frame. You can assume that he became a hermaphrodite but one might find more probable that Nanaki wasn't actually the last of his kind as everyone thought so.
@Captain Caveman I don't know all the details but apparently there was a side story where Hojo had two others of his kind. That side story was dropped from the final game. Also in mobile prequel game "before crisis" Red had regular interactions with a female of his kind. Here's hoping they bring back these sub plots in the remakes.
That Midger thing bothers me to. Probably more than it should. And he calls ut cyberpunk when it is Steampunk. I think he is lying when he says he played it.
The last gift my grandfather bought me was a Playstation 1 with Final fantasy 7, 8 & 9. He watched me play them everyday as he battled cancer and would love the stories so much so that he had me rush through the games at low levels so he could continue the story faster especially when Ariel died. He passed away in the hospital as I was halfway through FF9, I never finished that game without him.
My first experience of this game was when I went over to a friends to shoot his new air gun rifle. I went upto his room and he was playing this new game he bought called "final fantasy 7", to be honest I didn't like the name but watched him finish up what he was doing. My first image was the menu screen and he was equipping characters and selecting which materia to use. At this point I was memorized solely by the pictures of the characters, all the different choices of what you could do in the menu, and then as simple as it sounds, the bleeps when selecting and going back... after about an hour of purely in the menu came the first battle...! Wow, my world had changed. I then jumped on my BMX and peddled my heart out to get back home and gather my car washing equipment. I then spent the weekend washing cars to make enough to go out (on a school day) to buy my copy. I then tragically came down with a "flu" and spent the week exploring the world of Final Fantasy 7. Great, great times.
That's an amazing story! For me it was my mom's boyfriend. I watched him play it for weeks. I tried myself, but couldn't read. So I learned how to read just so I could play it! I definitely played that game more than was healthy! Started at age 7 on the PC and finally beat it on PlayStation at age 12. By the time I beat it I already had FF8 - 10, but 7 was the most important to me still.
@@richardzeifert38 No, he just didn't played the game and read a script. Midgar is a deviration from Midgard one of the nine plains, or worlds, in old Norse mythology. It is called midgard in The Lord of the Rings and they couldn't have the right because it is a mythology term.
When you scroll through the comments and see so many people sharing memories about the game, it really shows you the power this game had. I was 16 when it came out and I remember wanting a PlayStation for this very game. There was so much hype with this game coming out, almost equal to the hype of the remake. Which probably makes it even bigger for the time since the internet wasn't buzzing with social media. I think a lot of that hype carried over in our nostalgia for FF7. It holds so many good memories for gamers and mix that with the time period of gaming also being such a memorable time with the transition of 3D games, you have this combustible feeling of amazing mind blowing joy. It is like FF7 is a time capsule for that feeling.
Never had any Nostalgia for the game only bet it last year. It indeed stands the test of time. I hate jrpgs and wasn't a fan of chrono triggers gameplay yet this game did ATB so well. Also materia system kicked ass. Couldn't get into another FF
I can remember seeing it displayed at eB games and salivating . I was 12 when it came out and I still remember opening it, reading the awesome instruction manual, and me and my friends gathered around playing.
Omigosh! I'm so psyched that you used a picture of my Cloud cosplay at 00:13 . I like how you said "Decades even.." because next month it will be exactly 10 years since I debuted the costume. A lot of cosplayers were inspired to make similar cosplays since then but somehow you still managed to use mine. Thank you, this really made my day!
@@EaTStu it was made mostly of cardboard and craft foam and reinforced with plastic mesh, the real trick was really making sure everything was in proportion to everything else. It took me the better part of 6 months to create!
5:00 The first time I walked over that mini marsh/desert area on the world map when I was a kid, I saw a long snake like shadow slithering everywhere. At first I thought it was some kind of background aesthetic but oh boy was I wrong. The moment it bolted at me and initiated a battle, a huge Snake was fighting me. Seeing how it towers over Cloud and Co. I knew this was not a battle I was meant to win at lower levels. So I had to plan my way around the snake and reach my destination. Not to mention that cutscenes when you cross the marsh/desert where you see the same snake impaled into a tree and how the party mentions that it was Sephiroth's doing. As a kid I thought, "Dam... I am in way~ over my head."
Torchlight31 even some of the background art hasn’t aged the best, not because it doesn’t look good, but more so that sometimes (at least I) can’t tell where to go sometimes
Falcon: explaining why FF7 is so great. me: He's using a Mythril Saber while fighting Bottomswell. Didn't steal the Hardedge in Shinra headquarters, huh?
I remember way back where we would be showing off our save files in our friends house to see who reached lvl 99 first, who earned all the final weapons, and so on. FF7 was a huge part of my childhood for sure.
I'm right there with you, this is one of the only games where I felt a sense of accomplishment because I discovered everything on my own. I still remember beating Emerald and Ruby Weapon for the first time.
Same, FF7 is for me the greatest game on PS1 and one of the greatest games ever made next to Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye 64 and Super Metroid. Its a masterpiece of a game.
@ImPoopnRightNow The thing is , it doesn't seem to be a regional accent or any obvious reason. That is why it irritates me. Maybe he is a fucking text-to-speech bot , who knows.
Lol i always called them playmobil figures, even though they were nothing like that, it was weird but i understood it, they just didnt have the graphical capability bk then, but the game itself pushed the PS1 to it's limit.
Back in 97 I was 16 and had a job and a PlayStation so I bought FF7. It was the first game I played that really pulled me in emotionally and I couldn’t stop playing it. I still have it and the receipt from where I bought it. Now I’m in my 40s and I haven’t had a lot of time to really game like I used to BUT after finding out that the “remake” is a three part series, I recently bought a PS5 Slim and I’m about to both relive that awesome experience when I was a teenager and enjoy a new adventure as a man. This one is coming full circle for me!
The part that truly blew me away as a teenager were the Summons. To have access to these badass cut scene, massively powerful attacks to use, really whenever you wanted, was such a game changer.
Andy Newman her name was originally Aerith in the Japanese version. Her name was changed to Aeris when the game was released in the west. So technically Aerith is correct and will be her name in the new remake. I’m not too sure why the name was changed. Maybe someone else can fill us in on that one. EDIT: Midgur? Really? Smh.... I cringed every time he said that.
Don't play the original. In general the 32/64 bit era is among the worst aged games in history. The polygons look like total ass and this game got by alot on it's visuals back in the day. People were blown away by the cutscenes and summons, but the regular graphics looks terrible. The story is needlessly convoluted and terribly overrated. Earlier entries like FF 4 and 6 aged much better, and have better characters worlds and stories.
I was at school when this game first came out. Someone sold it me for 20 quid because he couldn't get past the first boss, even though it tells you how to do it in the manual. It really was a special game at the time, which I don't think any other game has had the same appeal to it. I can play it time and time again and it always brings so much nostalgia.

The best game I've ever played so far. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and I have a blast of memories around playing this game back in '97.
Final Fantasy VII is not only my favorite game but favorite story of all time for reasons that are too much to get into, and you did it more than justice in this brief video. Thank you.
Dealing with loss is what FF6 is all about. FF7 is the story of Japan's before WW2 (Shinra is the japanese government, Turks are the Yakuza) mixed with a religious hybrid of Christianity and Shinto. Mako is a direct parallel to nuclear energy and meteor is the atomic bomb. Aerith is Jesus and Sephiroth is the devil. He is litterally modeled after the description of the devil in the bible.
Huh? Mastered? You get materia for it. Oh, you did it on ps4. Back in the day I wasted more hours than I care to tell trying to figure out how to make a chocobo that would cross land and water because a friend told me that there was such materia. He bought the guide book and at the time I was a purist. This game changed that. I wasn't gonna spend the time to level up all the materia to get the freebie master summon bs. Now, we can just take a couple of minutes to look up how to do all of this. I love the game because it was such a challenge and at the time it was the only game I had even seen that was 3 discs. This game is gonna be 30. The 1st disc ended when something happens to aerith or Aeris on my game. I shall wait until after the world map part at least before I buy it. It would p me off to only get where the remake part 1 ends
Michael Williams If you go to the crater and fight those bouncy orange things and use a triple AP weapon. It’s not too difficult to max out knights of the round, altho its much easier to just stack your character with counter materias

This game was the love of my childhood. When I first played it, i was hooked by the art style and story. After playing it a few times at a friends house, I started saving my allowance for a Playstation and this game; it took almost two years. I was so in love, I bought the Prima Strategy Guide for it and read it cover to cover long before I had enough money. When the day finally came, I had the game and console... but I forgot to buy a memory card too. It was a few weeks until my birthday, so I actually played the first couple of hours over and over and over again (even leaving my system on overnight to try and stretch how far I could go without saving; usually around Wall Market being my max). Finally, I got my card and I was able to save... and the rest is history! No other game inspired that kind of commitment in me as a child...
I remember never being able to leave Midgar as a kid because I didn't know how to save the game. (Was my second video game ever so) Now in the REmake ill never leave Midgar. lol bro why?
wow bro, I could relate 100%. I was 8 years old and I thought this wasn't one game, but 4 diffrent games (because it was relased on 4 CDs)... and of course I didn't know about memory cards too!

This game changed my life... several times. I was a Senior in High School when I learned what an RPG was... it was the reason that I went out and got a Playstation. Many years later.... Here comes the remake and I was like... "Time to get a PS4......" Can't wait to play this with my kids this weekend... Let them know what a real freaking game is like!!!!
Pedro Luis Roman The remake has nothing in common gameplaywise with the original and the story is an Hommage not a 1:1 recreation. I am sure you and your kids will like it though :)
After 15 hours of playing this game I can say that is one of the best games I have played, the retelling of the story is wonderful and just listening to the music emotionally takes me back to high school times, when i would rush home to play this game
I played FF7 first time when I was 10 in 1998. Ever since experiencing the story, it's been my favorite game to this day. Nothing comes close and it still makes me cry. I can't wait to eventually see the whole game remade
Honestly, no other games can top FF7 and it holds a special place in my heart. FF8 and FF9 are also part of my favourite experience. The characters, story and music are the main reasons why I love FF7. It helps me to escape from this cruel reality of economic recession, despicable wars and radical politics and into this fantasy and futuristic world of FF7.
The whole vibe of the gaming industry was at it's pinnacle of pure art, from the images of the many video game magazines, to the advertisement, it was as good as it was ever going to get for an industry that was still a subculture. Like it was only for us gamers. The mystery and discovery and sense of underground was amazing during the transition from snes to ps1 and it also shows and is reflected in ff7 for it's time. Truly truly so ahead of it's time in terms of artwork. A pure pure masterpiece as it's ever going to be.
I remember waiting in line at Electronics Boutique to pick up my copy on PS1....Im so glad they did a remake. The music, the characters and the story are great.
When I first played this game in 98 I didn't understand it, random battles confused me, I turned it off and didn't touch it for a month, later I decided to read the manual which was the most comprehensive manual I'd ever seen packaged with a game! In addition it included a mini strategy guide for the first mission, I followed it and picked up the gameplay mechanics. I'd never played a JRPG but was highly impressed, immersed and had to continually see what happens next, the story, environments, characters never ceased to be interesting... 65 hours later I was convinced I'd just completed the greatest game of all time!
I think the transition from spending 6 hours in Midgar, thinking the entirety of game was set there, then leaving and being on the world map and realising there is a whole world to explore was amazing. It blew my mind when I was 10 (I'm 32 now). It really felt I was on an adventure. The amazing story helped. The only gaming experience that has come close to that since for me was leaving vault 101 in fallout 3.
On the same line as the Midgar fued ... I always went with Mako in the same manner as "make" rather than say the word "macho".... but take whichever paroxytonic stress you prefer, no need for a beef!!! Still gotta love Falcon!
How does mispronouncing a word from a game with no vocalization mean the person didn't play it? I always pronounced "mako" as May-ko until the remake demo had someone say Mah-ko.
jeebus2121 Because for literal decades everyone from Square, everyone in the entire video game industry, and the localizations for the entire FF7 extended universe have been pronouncing it “Mid-Gar.” And you know it’s also just how it looks like it should be pronounced lol
Another reason why it's such a big deal is because of the sheer amount of pure nostalgia. I was just a kid when I played this on the weekends, not a care in the world, no other concern but to play. Aaagghh, life was good..
I remember going over to my friends house to play area 51 on his Playstation and on that was a demo of FFVII and from then on i was blown away.most of my friends were all about Nintendo but when i saw the beginning scene of FF7 i fell in love with the system. FF7 is what got me into Gaming for real
@@alexfamie5255 ff13 is my least favorite. The story was bland and the characters other then lightning were forgettable. Only thing it had going was fighting. Im not the only person that has this opinion either which is probobly why you can purchase ff13 for cheaper then all thwbrest of the games.
@@ChaosinFallout good for me then. 13-2 was the only ff to incorporate monsters as allies in battle and I really dig that mentality. Very high replay value. Plus the chocobo in battle brought a cool element too. And that's just my opinion and I respect yours too.
I played the game for the first time in 2011, long after its original release ... and it felt totally magical. the game just nails its aesthetic so well, it's timeless.
When FF7 was released I cut grass in the neighborhood I grew up in and saved all my money from that and from chores so I could buy a PS1 and get Resident Evil and FF7. I only had enough for the PS1 and one games so I chose FF7 over RE1 because my friend had RE1 so I could just borrow his. The thing is...I didn’t realize I would need a memory card to save so I had to leave my game on all the time or I would lose my progress. After a week and a half I was able o buy a memory card but not before my dad came in and saw I left my PlayStation on. I was on disk two😢😭. It sucked, however playing through disk one again was great and I needed up playing that game at least 10 more times over the next few years. A ten minute video does no justice to this great game! If you read this and haven’t played it. Do yourself a favor and play through this amazing story. As a side note I would also highly recommend Final Fantasy 9. It has a great love story.
So I read the first paragraph. It’s ironic cause I had the same outcome when RE3 Remake and FFVII Remake came out. It was either RE3 or FFVII. I chose FFVII LOL.
When I got this game on christmas day, I didn't have a memory card so I just played through all of act 1 up to Heli Gunner boss in the shinra building where I died for the first time. I bet a lot of kids had this experience or similiar.
For me FFVII was the first RPG I played that connected me to the characters, the story, and it's world. It changed my perception of "Fantasy RPGs" and the music was so amazing. As a 90s kid with limited amount of "entertainment" I was thrusted into a realm where I could be invested in for hours away from the sadness of reality.
I remember buying this in 1997. I’ve never in my life played a video game that had such a powerful impact on me. I laughed, cried and felt true wonder.the storyline was amazing , the characters the gameplay. most importantly the soundtrack is masterful. I recommend any new age gamer to play it
FF7 and Metal Gear Solid were escapes from the troubled childhood I dealt with. They transported me to a different place and really helped me deal with whatever was going on. I had such a good time playing FF7 and recommend it to anyone.
One of my favourite parts of the game was the camera and static backgrounds while walking around. They were so gorgeous. So detailed. It made the world feel more real, almost as if it existed whether you played the game or not. The far away pans while your tiny little character walked through the frame, the scale of it all. Along with the music. It was perfect.
Played this game when i was 19! Loved it! Now, im playing the remake with my eldest son, wich is 11! When i saw the new intro, a tear dropped, and my son asked me why i cried... told him that i played the original, now its his turn to live and feel what i lived and felt!

@@akiinmoonlight79 FF7 wouldn't have as much attention in the West if it wasn't for the likes of SNES. I'm not saying FF7 wasn't influential or anything, just that the sheer amount of JRPG on the SNES is what made JPRG popular here.
The game was fucking awesome that’s why!! No special formula or design. It was the total package; story, gameplay, mechanics, etc. It was just fucking awesome!!
Even though I just couldn't get into any of the Final Fantasy games, there's no denying that Final Fantasy 7 was an insanely big hit when it came out. If you were into video games at the time, at the very least you heard and knew about it. It became a really strong part of the PlayStation's image and I knew several people that had the game also. I think it was a similar case with Final Fantasy 8 and 9 also but I heard more then once that they couldn't ever quite measure up to Final Fantasy 7 though. Even though I never really played any of those games it's still hard for me to imagine the PlayStation without them.
I enjoy a ton of lore, and i only started playong this game a month ago on my PC. It is by far one of my favorite games ever. I thought FF wouldnt be fun because i was unfamiliar and turned off by jrpg games, yet now i am hooked. This game came out 2 years before i was born and it holds up so well, even with the graphics.
You nailed it. I’ve played this game tens of times over the past 23 years, and you’ve nailed the reasons I’ve loved it this much for this long. Thanks! 👌
Another thing that people forget about FFVII is how it very expertly introduced many western gamers to the JRPG. I say expertly because of the way it was marketed in the west. If you look at comercials for the game they purposely contained nothing but cut scenes which of course showed off how graphically advanced the game was for the time but also completely hid the fact that it was a role playing game. I remember friends at the time that were "bro" gamers and typically only played sports titles that picked up the game based on what they saw in the marketing and were actually mad that they were duped into buying a JRPG. A genre they had ignored up until FFVII. Some of these players returned the game but a lot didn't and found out they actually liked this type of game. I truly believe that had it been marketed as a JRPG from the start it wouldn't have sold half as well as it did in the US.
Ff7.... the first game I was invested in and fully immersed in... Never played a turn based game till this. And the music brings me back to my childhood
My memory was a Party my older brother was throwing at home when I our parents went partying themselves for the night. Was watching cartoons and decided to make myself a poor mans smore (microwave a marshmallow on a saltine with a piece of chocolate.) and saw him and 4 his friends in our room huddled round our ps1 drinking and cheering, peaked and saw ff7 for the first time, they were doing the snowboarding mini game and I was wicked into snowboarding at the time, so I nestled on my mattress on floor and watch the drunks play it and I got hooked it into it....he ended beating it while I was in school so I didn’t see the whole thing obviously, but when he joined the military and left me all his games to play while he was gone it was one the first I jumped, and man was I excited to jump on ff8 right after not knowing it wasn’t even a true sequel to 7 confused me I still loved it haha. That’s how I got into the series.
How could you not be emotionally invested in this game! I spent many hours playing and barely understood the depth of the story as a kid but I loved it. Many hours exploring, learning the lore/tactics/materia/summons/monsters/characters/breeding Chocobos and playing games at Gold saucer... this game is the definition of perfection.
Never played a final fantasy game. That being said, how long will the remake take to beat? Or how long was the original? Interested in trying it out but dont want a short game for $60
The original was about 40 hpurs to complete the main quest, and about 80 to do everything. I dont know exactly how long the remake is, but i know it's huge since it two bd discs
depends, if you were new to the series and started with 7 it could take like a month........but after getting the hang of the battle system, maybe 2 weeks. It's one of those games where finding secrets and grinding were rewarding as hell.
If you are just mainlining the story, FF7R Game 1 will take between 25-30 hours 40-55 if you do all the side quests and optional stuff. Game 2? who knows.
@@adamkenny28 somewhat, 7 was a new take on the series in a sense but grinding was still present. If you've played 8-10 you will be fine, but there's minor differences in the battle system.

Yes! Dude, exactly.
Never had any Nostalgia for the game only bet it last year.
It indeed stands the test of time. I hate jrpgs and wasn't a fan of chrono triggers gameplay yet this game did ATB so well. Also materia system kicked ass. Couldn't get into another FF
Very well said! You got me beat by one year. I just turned 15 when it came out. Still to this day, my favorite game of all time.
I can remember seeing it displayed at eB games and salivating . I was 12 when it came out and I still remember opening it, reading the awesome instruction manual, and me and my friends gathered around playing.

The first time I walked over that mini marsh/desert area on the world map when I was a kid, I saw a long snake like shadow slithering everywhere.

I tried to run across it, it was terrifying when the snake chased you.

I worked on getting level 99 on just about all final fantasy games and yes no internet made them extremely hard to find everything
I'm right there with you, this is one of the only games where I felt a sense of accomplishment because I discovered everything on my own. I still remember beating Emerald and Ruby Weapon for the first time.

Midgur? Really, bro? Damn, Falcon that was not good.
I might have misheard but he also said 'Aerith'
Andy Newman her name was originally Aerith in the Japanese version. Her name was changed to Aeris when the game was released in the west. So technically Aerith is correct and will be her name in the new remake. I’m not too sure why the name was changed. Maybe someone else can fill us in on that one. EDIT: Midgur? Really? Smh.... I cringed every time he said that.
@@DarceyRecords thank you for correcting me, I was unaware.
Andy Newman Please, in the game it says Aerith, so therefore call her Aerith.
That wasn't very cash money of Falcon.
The remake of Final Fantasy VII might actually be the first Final Fantasy game I pick up and play and yes that includes the original

In my opinion, FF7 captured the hearts and minds of people by showing how to deal with losing someone.
Makes me wish I was born earlier in the 90's so I could have childhood memories of this.

Is it really mah-ko? I've always said may-ko.

FF7 was the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. It blew my mind at the time.
So question? If I remember right, didn't you need to load a save file to continue the next disc been awhile.
When I got this game on christmas day, I didn't have a memory card so I just played through all of act 1 up to Heli Gunner boss in the shinra building where I died for the first time. I bet a lot of kids had this experience or similiar.

Thanks! 👌
He has to be saying "Midger" on purpose. Gotta be trolling the fans.
MID-GAR *_not_* MID-GER...🙄
It was my first time playing a ff game and I loved it !
"Midger"? Have you even played ff7?
Ff7.... the first game I was invested in and fully immersed in...
I'll simplify it in my own thoughts of why I love FF7. The game play and the story. Both are very good.
Yes I want to know this. Also do you need to play the other final fantasy games to understand the story?
depends, if you were new to the series and started with 7 it could take like a month........but after getting the hang of the battle system, maybe 2 weeks.
I was a senior in high school and it changed my life.
The first time I played ff7 was on ps4 the remake, and the story is rich and the characters are awesome compared to the games of this generation, but the dialog wasn't for me, if it is the same story from the original game then it's unbelievable.
I've never played any final fantasy but this remake is absolutely beautiful I love it so much I thought I would like them all I bought final fantasy xv but to be honest idk how much I like that one I might just have to give it some more time but 7 remake is so freaking good i heard its gonna be 3 parts to which makes me very very happy
You know another game with the same demand for remake but would never be remade?
Xenogears.
