If you think wasting 3 minutes climbing to get a middle finger is bad, then what is Breath of the Wild wasting hours collecting Korok seeds, just to reward you with a golden turd?
In Mario Odyssey, there's this one "out of bounds" area you could only reach by doing a some super long and super high chain jumps. The devs actually put a large pile of coins in that "secret" area. It's not even a curious looking area. It's as out of bounds as they come, yet the devs expected some people to try and go up there.
There’s alternate versions of the peeping tom encounter in RDR2. My favorite one is a couple lying on a bed together, completely strung out on opium, telling each other how much they want to… have sex… but, instead of anything happening, the woman passes out and the guy falls off the bed and hits his head on the floor, also knocking himself out. Arthur just comments to himself “man… imagine being this pathetic… it’s almost sad” or some shit 😂
I've never heard of that #1 game, but just 2 hours ago, I joked to my wife playing FF7 Rebirth that it'd be funny if one of those radio towers with optional additional climbing had nothing but a poster with a middle finger on it.
15:00 You climb all the way up there, just to get the middle finger, TWICE! Once in the graphics, once in the "you wasted all that time to get here, waste more getting back." Truly an epic-level trolling. I can't even hate the devs for doing that, it's just so well-executed, just like the swinging log that breaks free and rolls back.
1. In South Park the fractured but whole, if you remember or use a guide to get the door code to the basement, Cartman will roast you as being Tom Brady, meaning a cheater 2. you could probably fill up a whole list with a Nolan North Deadpool game. One example is that if you’re going the right direction and fighting the enemies it will say something like “you know you’re going the right direction because you’re fighting enemies.”
This goes unmentioned, but the whole premise of “The Stanley Parable” is to do the opposite of what the narrative says. Was kinda expecting it to be mentioned
What about Prey's "Treasure Hunt"? If you try to cheat your way to the reward, which I'm sure many have tried, you get the "Game Master’s Ire" fabrication plan, which is a suit chipset that will decrease the yield of recyclers, reduce your speed when crouched, and make your flashlight batteries deplete faster. The exact opposite of the proper reward, "Adventurer's Toolkit."
There's actually one more call out in Undertale if you try to talk with Toriel after reloading. And it's not the only situation that happens either. Or if you reload to the start after playing the game for a while. There's a lot of dialogs you wouldn't expect
One of the best exploitation of gamer brains is Far cry 5. When one of the bosses(Jacob I think) kidnaps you he puts you through a shooting gallery. This happens everytime and by the 4th time, everyone is tired of it and just trying to get through it as fast as posible. Well that 4th time, in the story, you are actually attacking your own base and allies and the game has successfully brainwashed you into killing people in that base xD
I love that in Oblivion once you attack Sheogorath not even entering into "God mode" per console commands, which normally makes you invincible, will be able to save you. I was really surprised when I tried to survive the fall by simply enabling it but still bouncing of the ground and dying. Attack a daedric prince and live with the consequences I guess 😄
South park saying you're a cheater for using Cartman's door code before the game tells you it. I literally went straight to the door, messed around and thought this sounds like a cartman phrase and the game called me a cheater.
A bit late to the party, but still, there is another great example of this in Nuclear Throne. When you get to the throne, you walk on the red carpet, as that seems the only appropriate walking space, though the place is much bigger - and get evaporated by a huge beam.
Human fall flat gives you an achievement, when you skip parts of a level. The devs knew that someone is gonna try to do that. I was super suprised when i got it, because i didn't knew about it beforehand
In Cursed Crusade, Esteban questions why you pick up coffers and Dentz says, "isn't that an achievement of itself?" and there's an achievement/trophy behind it.
Man you’re lucky, have fun. Give it its due time, don’t rush things. And if the first few chapters seem boring for you, just keep going and be patient.
Can I just say Thank You for always having chapters, you guys rule! other channels pee me off and don't get my full view for not including this, its cheap, so Bravo! for allowing me to skip if needed, it is appreciated.
In reference to "Alone In The Dark": I always found it irritating when games stopped you from accessing combination locks. The average eight year old can be taught to feel the tension on a combination lock and know when the tumblers line up. It isn't cheating. It's real-world mechanics. We have vibrating controllers. Sensory feedback is used to crack combinations. This isn't rocket science.
Think my favorite BG3 moment is if you blow up Astarion with the solar canon and then revive him. He proceeds to give you the most exasperated "WTF WAS THAT?!" speech.
Resident Evil 4. After saving Ashley Leon climbs down from a platform then if you look up at her and she's wearing a skirt. She covers herself and calls you a perv 😂who remembers that?
my biggest gripe with RDR2 is how sensitive the wanted system is when people weren't as delicate in those days...everything else about the game is practically perfect
I know it’s a small thing and maybe didn’t belong on the list, but 2B swiping the camera away in NieR, when it got too ‘up-skirty’ is pretty ‘cheeky’ too. They set that trap well lol
I feel like BG3 could make up a full list of these sorts of things. It's really meant to let you decide how you want to do things and it feels like they thought of everything.
They totally used 4:56 this clip on purpose immediately after the AC:Brotherhood bit because Kristen Bell. (If you are unaware, she’s the VA for Lucy who was in said previous segment)
Man...I put about 130 hours into ONE playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3 and still see so much stuff that I missed. I somehow missed that scenario entirely.
The timing of the Kristen Bell Shrug seems misplaced at the beginning of 7 when she should have been placed at the end of number 8 for actually being Lucy in AC.
Stanley Parable can read the players minds, so theres just that game entirely. But the jumping out of the windows to "jump out of bounds" one is funny. Also, i love the Norm joke.
I'd add in South Park Fractured But Whole, I know that in the summer camp/monster dlc in Nathan's cabin there is a safe that if you try to open without finding the passcode numbers first will have Eric Cartman troll and shame you. Stumbled on this by complete accident since I actually guessed the right combination so I have no clue if this works the same way with all the other electronic locks in the game.

In both GOW Ragnarok and Jedi Survivor NPC companions note if you go off the clearly shown path to look for loot. e.g Heimdall makes note if you pick stuff up when he's showing you Asgard
