The best Final Fantasy they have ever made. The characters, the story, the music, the settings, the gameplay...it was just soooo special. It really touched the soul and heart of gamers everywhere and I try to replay it as often as I can. When I'm 70 I will still be telling myself, "Got to put another play file on it, might be the final chance I get and I need to relive it!" lol ^^
When he talked about the emotions, the scene. I could vividly remember the feelings I had around that time, all the pain the anger, the shock, the passion and the music! Everything spot on perfect.
I was actually happy, I didn't have to deal with her forcing herself into the party anymore like she forced herself onto Cloud when they first met after he tried sneaking out and leaving her. Hopefully the Remake makes that scene more impactful without having to add an unnecessary and temporary romance.
I can't even fathom what it must feel like to be Art Director of a game at the age of 25 and then looking back at what a legacy you've managed to help create nearly two decades later

Thank you for making and sharing this video! To this day, Final Fantasy VII is my favourite game and just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. I remember talking about it at school all day and rushing home to play it. What a great summer that was. To the developers, artists, composers, and all involved: thanks for creating this masterpiece.
To any dev that might read this. Uh thank you. Thanks for everything. I love every bit of FF VII. It's crazy story, it's spin-offs. All of it. Thank you.
Loving the inside retrospective by the devs. It's awesome how they're careful not to spoil anything, even if the major plot points are beyond spoiled at this point in time. They're talking as if the game was just developed.
20:27 I always mention this. how someone could be playing Super Smash or Dissidia and have Cloud or Whoever be their favorite character, and then discover that there’s an entire game(s) based on this character you just knew about from a random game. I bet it would feel amazing finding this out.
Final fantasy VII is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I end up replaying it every couple of years and I always enjoy it. It just so easy to fall in to, I actually happen to be replaying it again right now on an emulator on PS Vita. Squaresoft has been in a sharp decline since they merged with Enix I just don’t think they understand what made their classic games so good. It’s sad but at least we have the first 10 final fantasys to play indefinitely
Thanks to all you from the development team for this game and the memories it brought. It really does stand out from the rest, in my opinion. I always thought that the game being not as beautiful (opposed to later games I mean) - simply because it was one of the first games in 3D, along with the dialogs in text instead of being spoken, etc. was part of what made this game great. This way my own mind made up for the imperfections. Which made the game perfect! Like reading a good book instead of seeing the movie.

Nice video, I like that even 22 years later, the devs are respectful to fans about spoilers. I'm really glad SE took back the reigns from CyberConnect2, because now SE can do it like they should have in the first place, and now CyberConnect2 is working on a Dragon Ball Z open world RPG.
ElFamoso Darkyaya They lost source code of FFVII, VIII and Kingdom Hearts xD, but they ported the original FFVII game to PC with a no-final version of PSX code using reverse engineering and fixing or completing the code, they ported then the game to Android and then to PS4 and now to Xbox and Switch, and the same for Kingdom Heart Final Mix for PS3 :(, but for some reason...they didn't use reverse engineering with FFVIII ☹️, and they ignored the recent anniversary too...
Neither have actually been proven but there's seemingly two reasons for FFVIII's lack of ports. It's either got something to do with legal issues regarding Eyes on Me or possibly the source code was lost.

Why is there a flashing black ESRB rating screen throughout the video? Kind of sketchy. 19:40 is the one I verified but I saw at least two more before that.
This video was really done. FFVII is a masterpiece and my favorite game of all time. Really hoping the new game stays true to the original and the action combat doesn't ruin it. I know we'll still always have the original, but I wish it was only the graphics that were being updated :) Also , this video is a really good companion to the massive article done by polygon: www.polygon.com/a/final-fantasy-7
I start to question if that level can ever be acchieved again. Immensly talented people with new technology at the perfect time came together to create a true masterpiece. Never have I experienced something comparable in gaming since and I kept looking for it. I really liked parts of FF8 also but after that the magic left and never came back. Story, music, characters and the world where just so well put togehter and impactful.
I wouldn't mind to wait 5 years more for the remake if it becomes much closer to ff7 than to ffxv! The best thing of ff7 is not just the story or the characters... in my opinion is the massive amount of different scenarios and environments, hundreds of them with big differences what makes you feel lost in an interactive huge world full of adventures and secrets....and the ost, best one in videogames history.
There probably wont be one anytime soon. From what i understand they lost the original copy for it or something like that. That type of thing happened alot back in the day
"Hey, let's set the next one in New York!" "Nah, I'm not feeling it. I dunno, let's just create one of the most iconic cities in all of science fiction." Those more subtle real-life influences must be a part of why it resonates so well as a setting. (also this shouldn't bother me as much as it does, but Midgar is diesel/cyberpunk, not steampunk)
haha, I'll try! It's ultimately more of a "know it when you see it" kind of thing, but here's my quick & dirty, oversimplified explanation: - Steampunk is a romanticized, sci-fi reflection of about the last half of the 1800s. Think Jules Verne or "League of Extraordinary Gentleman" kind of stuff. Expect to see machines with lot of wood & brass parts, wrought iron, canvas & leather, glass tubes, gears, and of course hissing gouts of steam from the steam engines that power everything and from which the genre gets its name. In FF7 the first room inside of the Nibelheim reactor, with the catwalk and ladders, definitely has a steampunk vibe (since it's supposed to be an older reactor) but that's pretty much the only thing that does. - Dieselpunk is a romanticized, sci-fi reflection of the period from about WW1 to WW2, getting its name from how machines around that time were powered by diesel engines rather than steam. Expect to see lots of heavy, bolted steel armor, fins, chrome accents, propellers, rocket engines, tank treads, machine guns, and of course huge, HUGE cannons. Think "Metal Slug," "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," the "Wolfenstein" games, or a lot of the vehicles & machinery in FF7, like the cars and a lot of the architecture in Midgar, how the Highwind is modeled after a WW2 bomber, and how Junon has kind of "industrial art deco" vibe and is reminiscent of the giant guns Germany built to shell England. - Cyberpunk is a genre of more futuristic science fiction focused on the effects of computer, robotic, and transhuman technology on our lives, as well as how the dominance of private capital and megacorporations that emerged in the 1980s will lead to a dystopia of corporate control of the government and vast income inequality. Think "Blade Runner" and "Ghost in the Shell," and in FF7 things like all the robots, Barret's cyborg arm, the neon techno-junkyard of the Midgar slums, the extreme social stratification (in this case literally), and of course just everything about Shinra in general. I hope that clears things up a little bit, but like I said that's just a quick and simple explanation. If you're curious, just googling the different terms (both regular and image search) will give you a pretty good feel for them, but don't do it unless you've got some time to kill, because there's a rabbit hole of all sorts of other genres with names like "raygun gothic" and "cassette futurism" you might get sucked into (but it's worth it, it's really interesting & creative stuff).
Just curious, doesn't anyone try to imagine Midgar City, sector-by-sector? I never have, but I think it would be cool to a more comprehensive understanding of all the locations.
Its a shame they didn't bring up the music. Uematsu is a genius and his music improved this game so much that you can't even imagine a different ost.
Uematsu was in good health back then I think.
The music was literally everything. It's the reason I actually started playing piano!
