    I am grateful about your effort to make these videos. As a retired ASE mechanic who avoided automatic transmission repair, I am learning a lot.
    However, since some may follow every step, it is important that they learn correctly. A screwdriver is for turning screws and not a punch. A punch is for driving items from their home. A steel extension should never be hit with a steel hammer. Any steel tool should not be hit with steel hammer. A brass, lead or non-marring hammer is the safest way. You mentioned wearing safety eye glasses, so I know you care about safe procedures.

    My 1995 E4OD from a 7.3 diesel didn’t have a wave plate on the L/R clutch. Further, the. Clutch frictions would not fit with the planet installed, I had to remove the snap ring and planet to install the clutches then reinstall the planet, lay the trans over to lift the drum and reinstall the snap ring.

    If anyone like me was banging their head against the wall wondering why the output shaft wont insert deep enough into the trans to get the snap ring on, check the bearing at the back of the trans where you insert it. It may have not seated flush and with the tab in the correct area. Finally got the snap ring on! Good luck everyone

    Your videos are great and paced well for working right along with you. I do wish you had shown replacing the bushings at the rear of the case. Given that they are 2 separate bushings, removal is tricky. Got any advice or tool recommendations?

    I tried to remove the sun gear shell bushings like was mentioned here (39:23). Didn't work. The bushings just got more and more destroyed and didn't budge. If you want to change these bushings I'd recommend having a shop do this part.

      Yeah mine doesn’t have that plate either, have already spent hours trying to get an answer to the same question…. I did find another video from Curmudgeon Garage which doesn’t even mention this plate and he assembled the transmission without a wavy plate.

      @@randallmaddux9233 I figured as much. I've spoke to a 40 year old local trans shop. They looked for one for me but told me that they nearly never use one anyway. It was suggested to use another steel to take up the end play and keep the shift tight. So I hope they are right. I have the beast finished, again, and cant wait to see if they were right.

    I'm working on a 96 trans with the higher spline count and I can't get the friction plates to install over the hub. It appears there is a lip or a space before the splines start on the hub that isn't allowing the plate to go over top of it. Any advice ?...I was thinking maybe I have to pull up on the hub some to get it started ?

      I removed the planetary gear set, installed the metal and clutches, then reinstalled the seat set. Looks correct. Like you said, they will not install because of the "tooth" overhang from the planet gear set.

    Hopefully I can get a reply soon. But I have followed this set by step and can not get past the snap ring for the output shaft. It acts like my output shaft will not come into the transmission far enough for the little snapping to hit the groove. I have taken it all back apart rechecking everything 3 times now. At this point not really sure that do other then take a little buffer and clearance something just a bait to make the shaft come into the transmission a little further. It doesn’t lack much at all

    • @bigjuicygarage4754
      @bigjuicygarage4754 7 месяцев назад

      I'm sure you already resolved this, but whenever I've had this happen it is because there was an alignment problem further below preventing those components from dropping down the remaining fraction of an inch & allowing the snap ring slot to be clear. Thrust washers coming out of their tabs is the most common reason, but there are a lot of things stacked by the time you get to that snap ring. Any one of them out of alignment could be the culprit.
