I'm not comfortable going that far inside an automatic! People ask me if I can rebuild theirs and I say "no way, you really need a specialist for that." Thanks for handling these transmissions Richard & Teresa! You do top-notch work in a really challenging field.
I have successfully rebuilt many engines from Toyota to Chevrolet and many others. But transmission have always been a nemesis of mine for some reason. Way back in the day, I helped with a 727 Torqueflight and that is the only transmission I have literally been into. R&R quite a few but that is different ballgame altogether. I am literally in awe of Richard's ability to remember where all these small parts go and what function they serve. Much respect for all professional transmission rebuilders that take care of the details like Richard!
I serviced my e450 this morning after watching someone else’s great video and then when done a Precision Transmission video showed at the top of my feed so I watched it. It was an early one with Richard not wearing gloves and I was cringing because I currently have a big cut on the tip of my thumb, so of course I wore gloves. Then his next video he wore black gloves, then his next was green gloves and first day with his new Milwaukee cordless. I need to get back to the garage and fill my tranny, but it’s been so comforting watching the pan debri in these videos, knowing that mine looked great - just 49,000 miles on my ‘04 Born Free RV.
Big hello from the UK, find your work fascinating and your knowledge is endless. I am an engine man myself and avoid auto transmissions as they scare me 😊. Keep up the excellent work and super videos.👍👍👍
This was THE most complicated auto trans (or trans of any type) I've seen to date . I must have missed others you have done on these . When a customer screams about the high cost of rebuilding one, just refer them to these videos . lol As always, the master done a fine job . Thanks Richard and Teresa . Ah, and Annie too . :)
Several shops are just doing trans swaps now. Cost of labor far exceeds the cost of a new/rebuilt unit. Dealerships in my area are now charging $225/hour for shop work. A 7 hour R&R has nearly $1600 in labor alone. Add to it the parts (with the obligatory 300%+ markup) and you're at over $5K in many cases, especially if you need planets, pumps, etc. My Tahoe is at a shop now (3 weeks and counting due to a mess up on their end), and they don't rebuild transfer cases any longer. Been looking forward to another 4r100/e4od from yall. My 7.3 e4od slips a touch when shifting into overdrive so im planning on rebuilding it myself soon.
Towards the end the sound was cutting on and off. Wow that’s a lot of transmission and to remember how to put it back together looks very complicated but with your experience it will be better than before. God Bless Y’all.
Ford spelled Backward, is an Acronym for 'Driver Returns On Foot' My only experience with Ford Transmissions is with the 3 speed in my 66 Galaxie, and my Company F250 with a V10. That Transmission failed less than 100 miles after the Warranty Period. It was covered, cause I had taken the Truck in about 1700 miles before, but some Part the Stealership wanted to replace, was gonna take a few days to arrive, so they gave me the Truck back, and a week later it was on the Hook going back to the Stealership.
They had a update to the high pressure oil pump O rings. My 2001 had a big oil leak coming from up top. Service bulletin fix to replace O rings with newer versions.
I like the 4r100, they never spawn extra neutrals like GM offerings often do. At least in my ownership experience. On the park paw, it's light engagement isn't a problem, you have a much better chance of the bolt falling out of the steering column linkage.
I’m looking to rebuild a Mercedes / Chrysler transmission 722.6(72) AWD transmission I would love to see you tear it down and rebuild it worth every penny
WOW! Always thought I wanted to work on an automatic transmission... nope! If I would have worked on that I'd have door stop parts for the whole neighborhood! How do you remember all that?? Do you ever work on the Alison transmissions for Chevy\GMC? Would love to see what's in one of those!! Thanks for the learning and keep up the good work. And take care of yourselves!
can we get the 4L60-70 rebuild video...... I have put together enough info from the teardowns to successfully rebuild 2 of mine but I am sure I am missing stuff that you could share.... anyway thank you so much for the videos hope all is well

I purchased a jasper trans for my 02 f250 7.3 4x4 crew cab. I purchased all new sensors ,bypasstube, etc. The sensors were different lengths. At first it wouldn't shift correctly. The shop switched the sensors around putting the lomger one in the rear. They were definitely not the same lengths. I'm guessing I need to go ahead and order a new front sensor? I have t had any issues yet.
@@adamsorell4851 no. They wasn't. I've read multiple multiple forum after forums about this topic. I didn't pull the old ones out to check. Springtime is near and I want to start scouring the salvage yards for a worthy AOD core to rebuild. I appreciate any knowledge you may care to share. Thank you.
First off I love your videos and immense amount of knowledge. I have a question about a ford 5r44 transmission. i have a 2004 Ranger with a 3.0 and 5 speed auto. I don't like the way it shifts, especially into 4 and 5. transmission will not shift into these gears unless i'm doing at least 40 mph and when it shifts it is almost at the same time. if i turn OD off it will shift into 4 then will shift into 5th when I turn od back on. It seems to have a fairly high stall speed on converter. I believe that is actually stock configuration. Would a lower stall speed help? could there be something going on with the valve body? could there be several problems? Thank you for all the educational videos and explanations that go with teardowns.
Love watching your videos. I just found out about the new channel. I thought you guys stopped the videos because every time I would check the old channel there wouldn’t be any new videos. Question- do you do transmission rebuild videos or just videos taking transmission apart??
Thanks for the teaching richard them ford need to get better shift solenoids they tend to bang in the gear n thats the 2013 eco boost 6 speed got 6 of them crap in there n right by module in transmission oil pan n on them nnew escape it starts to slip on awd eco boost saids to change oil every 30000 miles but its at 56000 or so n its rental but slipping like clutches in tq converter out
i’m in Alabama and i know you don’t like having trans shipped to you to rebuild and then have it installed by an owner, so do you know of a good shop on the level of yours in northern AL or TN that you could recommended for a TH350 that’s going to back up a Stroker 383 W/440Hp?
I have a lowish mileage '99 that has a tinny sound when warmed and idling. Now I'm wondering if that snap ring has let loose and rattling around on my coast clutch housing....what are the symptoms when that snap ring lets go?
Richard may I ask your Personal Preference/Opinion. I'm in a love hate relationship with my 2 most prized trucks my 06 mega cab 5.9 4x4 . and my 00 7.3 Excursion. The Dodge only has 149k , the Ford is just short of 500k. the dodge is rusting out the ford is solid ive been considering swapping in the 5.9 since the dodge is rusting to pieces. Vs sell both and buy something newer. either way not sure as to which tranny would you run if it was your rig.. 48re or 4r100. We tow nothing too heavy, run these trucks stock (7.3 has a 50hp tune but that's it. I do have the GM Gov Pressure solenoid upgrade in the 48re and I LOVE the way it shifts. Appreciate you all as always. Thank you.
A question from a novice: Might it be a GOOD idea for that parking pawl to just be touching slightly in case of someone (if it's possible on that truck) shifts into park at speed? I'm assuming damage either way, but maybe less in this case.
Is it wierd i can smell that valve body? And it kinda makes me hungry? Nostaligia and the brain do odd things but i literally smelt that older atf smell when u rebuild these. I also grew up on daily farm=smell of cows i start getting hungry. It was the smell of coming home to dinner time
Hey Teresa and Richard! Glad to see you making vids. I have a 01 Sierra that will need its 4L60E rebuilt. How can I get in touch with you guys to arrange that? Thanks!
I have that same truck but an 01, had the tranny rebuilt 4yrs ago and had a billet triple disc put into it. A few months ago i started noticing that when I take off something feels like its shuddering or chattering or something like that as if i am running a Ujoint without needle bearings. But after it gets up to about 20mph or so that shaky vibration goes away. Almost feels like the clutches are worn away. Any quick online diagnosis you can point your finger towards for me?

Thank you for all the educational videos and explanations that go with teardowns.
Love watching your videos. I just found out about the new channel. I thought you guys stopped the videos because every time I would check the old channel there wouldn’t be any new videos. Question- do you do transmission rebuild videos or just videos taking transmission apart??
Mr. Richard the overdrive will not engage. Lost u joint back in April and it destroyed the case. Parts put in another case and no overdrive..
Thanks for the teaching richard them ford need to get better shift solenoids they tend to bang in the gear n thats the 2013 eco boost 6 speed got 6 of them crap in there n right by module in transmission oil pan n on them nnew escape it starts to slip on awd eco boost saids to change oil every 30000 miles but its at 56000 or so n its rental but slipping like clutches in tq converter out
Take care again of course....
i’m in Alabama and i know you don’t like having trans shipped to you to rebuild and then have it installed by an owner,
so do you know of a good shop on the level of yours in northern AL or TN that you could recommended for a TH350 that’s going to back up a Stroker 383 W/440Hp?
Thank you.
Would you be willing to post a list of what parts you usually use for upgrades on these?
A question from a novice: Might it be a GOOD idea for that parking pawl to just be touching slightly in case of someone (if it's possible on that truck) shifts into park at speed? I'm assuming damage either way, but maybe less in this case.
Is it wierd i can smell that valve body? And it kinda makes me hungry? Nostaligia and the brain do odd things but i literally smelt that older atf smell when u rebuild these. I also grew up on daily farm=smell of cows i start getting hungry. It was the smell of coming home to dinner time
I didn't know you changed your channel i thought you stopped doing it.
Would you be able to recommend a good transmission shop in Southern California?
How can I send you a part you need for your Milwaukee tools? Its a new ring that keeps the sockets and extensions from falling off.
hi richard do you have any learning aids to help with rebuilding a 4l60e. i want to rebuild the one out of my 2001 s10
Is it possible to ask you about a 700r4 that won't move in reverse?
How do you fix a corroded actuator cover? Case has corroded away and now will not seal.
Hey Teresa and Richard! Glad to see you making vids. I have a 01 Sierra that will need its 4L60E rebuilt. How can I get in touch with you guys to arrange that?
Thanks!
You didn’t even try to find the contact info. Spend 30 seconds looking through the channel information and you will answer your own question.
@@mikek5298Hey there. Actually I did. Sent over 3 emails in the last 2 weeks. Have not heard back. Thanks!!
I have a 4r100 in a 2001 Ford Excursion that i would like you to work on...is that possible?
I have that same truck but an 01, had the tranny rebuilt 4yrs ago and had a billet triple disc put into it. A few months ago i started noticing that when I take off something feels like its shuddering or chattering or something like that as if i am running a Ujoint without needle bearings. But after it gets up to about 20mph or so that shaky vibration goes away. Almost feels like the clutches are worn away. Any quick online diagnosis you can point your finger towards for me?
Download Drake you did a real good job rebuilt my transmission by😊 what you talk
Do you still build transmissions for the public?
