Hi 👋, Black Forest, great looking 👀 tabletop, I was watching someone last year, they were using different colour blues in layers and white layer, and very large heat gun to move the resins around, it might of been over Japan or Korea , your still looks amazing, As per usual, Stay safe, I look 👀 forward to seeing your next project, Phil from the moulin France.
Is there no stopping you Guy's? Trying new idea's and experimenting with different process. This again has turned out to be an amazing piece, the water and wave effect is pretty much spot on. Still not a great fan of the spray on finish but it is the client's choice. The table legs are good too, even if they were not to your liking! I applaud your can do attitude and the professional way you go about your business . Thank you for sharing, cheers Michael.
We couldn’t agree more. We are not perfect either and have had tables go wrong, it is never the burden of the customer. Either we fix it, or make them a new table.
I was about to say the same thing! That was 100% the builder's fault. Yeah, they would have lost money on the commission to redo it properly, but the negative impact to your business is waaaaaay worse when you treat a customer like that.
Yes, a deposit is to get commitment from the customer and in case they change their mind if you deliver what they asked for at an industry standard or greater. It doesn't cover the manufacture's mistakes.
I’ve been subscribed for a couple of years now but never commented. When you said you were going to give out a few of the test pieces to commenters it made me think that offering a few of the off cuts on the ends of the slabs would also be a great thing to offer commenters. A lot of people do small projects that would probably love an off cut to make something with.
Sad that the client lost out on there original piece but absolutely love how this turned out! Think it’s awesome that ya’ll were willing to learn something new in order to bring the client’s vision to life! On another note the sample at 4:16 with the two pieces of wood and the waves crashing into each other is gorgeous! 🥰 I would totally use that as a prop for taking photos of my ball python collection. 😉
Love the explanations on each step. What a beautiful result for this client! That blue is one of my favorite colors and I love the commitment to the creative process. Nicely done, team.
To penetrate and strengthen the wood, have you tried something like Wessex system 200 penetrating resin? it is designed to do that - hence its use in boat building - when sanded to expose grain the weak areas are well supported and take the furniture oil without sinking.
Good on you guys, waves are not easy even in little coasters. You never have the same results each time but you really know that. Great job for your first ocean pour.❤
I have tried to replicate the wave effect on several smaller pours and its not as simple as you would think. I think the secret is the timing of the different layers. Something hard to replicate without a lot of trial and error. I would be extremely nervous about trying it on a full-size table. Hats off to you guys.
What confused me a little was that on your practice attempts you poured the white onto entirely liquid epoxy and used a hair dryer to create the effect (which in my own experience is the best way of doing it) but on the actual table you poured the white onto partially cured epoxy meaning you couldn't shape the waves with the hairdryer? (Table looks amazing regardless)
It's sad that the clients lost their deposit from the other company, on their table, when it was the company's error. Glad they were able to get what they wanted from y'all, this turned out beautifully, love the wave effect. So cool😊
Crazy because cottonwood is like a huge weed. Crappy wood super brittle. Im an arborist and we ALWAYS have the client keep cottonwood since its basically useless and no one even picks it up for free!
@@BlackForestWoodCo definitely not questioning the quality of the finished product, you guys are awesome! Just very surprised to see a true use for this wood!
@@hazembata i agree it is cool looking, I've never seen it slabbed lengthwise. Ill have to bring some home and try slabbing some next time i work on one.

I have watched many of your videos and I must say the level of professionalism you display is incredible. I can not believe that the client would lose the deposit on the un-useable table. That should fall directly on the hands of the company that failed to meet the requirements set forth. I’m very glad you were able to make the clients wish come true!
That is a fantastic table. Looks great and is another new feature we have not seen before. It is always good to see the process you use. Others may copy but you guys are the originators of this style. Keep sharing it is gold what you do! Take care 👍🏻
Wave effect can be quite tricky and does take a lot of practice to get good results. Glad you could make the customer happy after their original disaster.
You guys go the distance, working through what the client envisions. You can’t be beat. Thank you for your knowledge and sharing it with us. Hi to Charlie🐾🥰
I sleep with ocean waves playing in the background & have for nearly 40 years because it really helps cut out the traffic noises near my house so it would be super nice to have one of the samples to add to my bedroom & complement the ocean sounds
I've seen the waves done in dioramas that look like the real thing. For your first time doing anything like this, you did a great job. At first, I thought you hadn't put enough white on, but once the table was set up, there was the perfect amount of waves.
With all those Canuckian forest fires up there - you should have massive tons of charcoaled wood that you should be able to harvest free of charge.....
So awesome. Become one of my fave channels and even prouder your from my home city sharing your craft around the world! Maybe Black Forest Wood needs its own spray area and do it in house?
Wow a fellow Calgarian! Haha, we appreciate that, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on our videos! Haha, we wish! We would have to redo the entire building to make it legal and hire a team of experienced spray finishers, unfortunately it's more time and cost efficient to outsource spray finishing
I have tried this unsuccessfully a couple of times and gave up. I don't have the luxury of a lot of experimentation, but you did show me some new things to try. Thank you.
We know what happened with your competitor pouring epoxy without hardener. The way they run their shop they don't always have a single point person on their mixes. the lead guy has his junior pour out the epoxy and maybe he goes to lunch. The junior pours out the epoxy. the lead guy comes back, sees the epoxy poured out in the bucket and assumes the junior mixed it with hardener. The junior is now not available to verify or the lead just didn't verify. He pours the epoxy and it never hardens. Common mistakes made by lower paid, newer employees. Hard to believe they didn't refund the deposit.
The experimental element of this build is really great, and I enjoy seeing the problem-solving "play" that comes with it. Thanks for the added level of detail into how it all comes together in that way.
The cottonwood looks exquisite. I cringed when you attached the base because I thought you were upside down with the slab. There are few pieces where you can be equally delighted with both sides. My one fear with artistic pieces is the guilt I feel if I spill wine on the table. Then I remember that I brought Matryoshka Dolls from Russia that I was displaying and my girls of 2 & 3 wanted to play with them. I remembered that the dolls were intended for use by little girls and any minor damage was done with love when using them for their original purpose.
I hope customer sues for their deposit bk from the "other "company - there isn't a justification for the company keeping it if the fault was their own ... Great result from yourselves as usual ...

Very cool technique for the wave effect

9:27 Looks like a lot of voids there, is that something you ask the client if they're okay with or is it just not feasible to fill everything?
That’s on the underside of the table! We typically leave the smaller voids on the underside whereas we would fill them on the top!
