Think the Oilers playing in that powder puff division defaults them at #2. Sure the Flames gave them some trouble. Just the Caps and Flyers were winning divisions and leading Cup winning Islander teams in terms of division points at the end of the season.
I disagree with 1&2. The Islanders won 4 consecutive cups. They were in the finals 5 consecutive years. Edmonton was absolutely a powerhouse in the 80’s. But they didn’t have 5 straight appearances. They didn’t have 19 consecutive playoff series victories. Granted in 87 the Islanders didn’t get beyond the 2nd round (I think) but The Easter Epic....anyway I am partial to the Islanders but I think they should be #1 on this chart. Also a side note if Pelle Lindberghe (sp?) hadn’t died who knows what Philly would have been???? Lindberghe & Hextall.....😮😦😮
Flyers may be higher if the 1980 Bullies didn't take so many foolish penalties and allow a Finals record 15 PPG. A game 7 at the Spectrum would have been tough for the Islanders to win.
If you can't justify doing any power rankings beyond the 80's, which is a shame because there are many hockey fans who like history, could you do one on the greatest dynasties, both natural(Habs, Islanders and Leafs) and not natural(Oilers)?

@@matthewdaley746 I agree. That 89 Flames team had 117 points that year. That was the 4th highest of the decade behind the 84 and 86 Oilers which had 119 and the 82 Islanders had 118

Well if you werent in edmonton or long island it wasnt that easy. Sure less teams but the good teams were far more stacked then teams today. Less teams = less dilution of the talent pool.
The Islanders are FAR from the greatest dynasty. The Habs won 5 straight, and 4 straight on more than one occasion I believe. Henri Richard had 11 cup rings, as a player!
I've said the islanders and late 70s canadians are top 2 for me. I cant qualify the canadians from the original 6 era as they only played 5 other teams. You gotta have more opposition then that to qualify
@@Sweeptheleg83 that's one way of looking at it. The other way is, that during the original 6 only the best of the best got a spot on an NHL roster. The Oilers and the Islanders dynasties took place in an era when the talent pool was far more diluted. Making it far easier to build an elite team if your management was good at spotting talent early, and your ownership had the cash to keep a team together.
Not so sure about that, they were totally gassed in the 1984 Final, and, they didn't beat a team other than the perpetually-underachieving pre-2018 Capitals in the Playoffs until 1993.
@@matthewdaley746 they were gassed because of the Oilers which had Wayne Gretzky, and Mark Messier just to name a few of their players. I'll give you that they didn't win much after 1984, but that's kind of given because the core got old and we all know what happens when core players get old.
@@TheHockeyGuy They went 2-4 in Playoff Series, missing them in 1989, both wins were against the Capitals, who lost them way more than the Islanders won them.
Both the Isles and Oilers won four Cups and lost one final in the '80s, so they're even there. The Isles, however, won 19 straight playoff series, something no other professional North American sports team had ever accomplished, nor has accomplished since, and that "tiebreaker" should have put them at #1.
Oh and Shannon won't do the 70's because let's face it, it's just another Montreal fest, Habs would have all top 3 spots on the Power Rankings.... lolololol
Islanders need to be #1 on the list not only b/c of their 4 straight Stanley Cups, and making it to the finals for a 5th straight year in a row, but b/c they won 19 straight playoff series in a row. No other team has come close to that. That should put them over the Oilers
The Oilers won 4 Cupsin the 80s and had a Finals appearance in 1983. They won 5 in seven years. They also were better overall throughout the 80s than the Isles who struggled after their last Finals appearance.
Have to agree with THG on the top 5 teams. The Oilers are talked more about for the 80s than the NY Islanders. Around 82-83 the Oilers started coming to be a great team and of course the rest is history. The Islanders just fell off the map after 84. So no, Oilers are #1. A great list.

Do nfl power rankings for 2010s
Think the Oilers playing in that powder puff division defaults them at #2. Sure the Flames gave them some trouble. Just the Caps and Flyers were winning divisions and leading Cup winning Islander teams in terms of division points at the end of the season.
LOVE these logos
NYI 19 straight playoff series win's . enough said .
No sooner did I say to my wife, that gives me hope for the Wings, you said the same thing as the final s was leaving my mouth. Thank you. Although I'm slightly disappointed there won't be decades later than the 80s
Somehow I missed the other decades of this? I dunno, I'll go find them later I suppose.
Spoilers, Detroit was pretty good
@@ScarecrOmega They, and, the Rangers, were really bad, for a really long time, before they got good, that seems strangely predictable.
From what my father has told me the 1940s chants started in the late 80s
I agree with your top 5 except I thought the Flames would be 4 and Flyers 5 only because the Flames won a cup. The North Stars 7th? I was a huge North Stars fan and now a Dallas Stars fan. I don't know if I would have them ahead of the Blackhawks. Not saying it's wrong, just my opinion
Yeah, not to mention that the Flames won the Cup at a time when having the NHL's best record was still seen as important.
@@matthewdaley746 I agree. That 89 Flames team had 117 points that year. That was the 4th highest of the decade behind the 84 and 86 Oilers which had 119 and the 82 Islanders had 118
@@daved1535 1986 proved that Grant Fuhr was completely dependent upon his offense, as he would lose two other Games by three goals each.
The Flames should've won at least 3 cups with that roster if not for Edmonton
They had no business needing a Game Seven to beat the Blues, that team had Doug Gilmour, and, a bunch of stiffs.
Damn, Hull didn't mature fast enough
The isles would of won five straight of not for the Oilers.
@@allsystemsgo8678 Doubtful, it's rather surprising that they somehow even got to a Game Five in 1984, they were running on fumes.
@@allsystemsgo8678 The Isles would have won five straight if not for 2-3-2
4 straight cups is definitely more impressive than 4 over the decade, Islanders easily #1
Again, if you don't include the second half of the decade I have no argument. As this list is about the entire decade, their fade in the second half does affect their standing.
@@TheHockeyGuy This was not helped by the fact that the Capitals giftwrapped the Islanders the only Playoff Series they would win in the late 1980s.
@@TheHockeyGuy Even so, the Isles won 19 straight series, which EDM (actually no one in any sport has) couldn’t match. One team had one half the decade, the other had the back end, so I would think it was a wash. Thanks for the videos. Enjoying them.
@@triandfit1 It's far worse than that, no team has even gotten to ten Playoff Series wins in a row since that streak ended.
Flyers were in the Islanders division. A rivalry no one talks about today. They HATED each other.
It was easier to win a Stanley Cup in the 80's. You had to be the best out of 21 teams. Now you have to be the best out of 31 teams
Well if you werent in edmonton or long island it wasnt that easy. Sure less teams but the good teams were far more stacked then teams today. Less teams = less dilution of the talent pool.
@@Sweeptheleg83 I didn't think of that but you make some excellent points
@@brianrupp5974 all good brother. Stay safe in these crazy times.

I miss the Quebec Nordiques.

You never gave us a chance!
What is a whaler anyhow?
I'm guessing it's one of those men from New England, and, elsewhere, who went out in a ship to hunt whales for their various lucrative products.
Matthew Daley Actually it’s a boat.
@@Shatamx Whatever it is, it wouldn't have been a very good name for a team that was located in North Carolina.
Toe Blake's Canadiens team from 1956-1960 was the greatest dynasty, it won five Cups in a row, that will never happen again.
@@Sweeptheleg83 They still won five Cups in a row from 1956-1960, however many games you had to win, they still did something no other team ever has.
@@LARGO125 Well, like they say, there really is no room on a scorecard for an explanation, and, I just see the five Cups.
RIP Colby
Islanders number 1. Oilers 2
GO NORDS#1 !!!! And i think the Jets should be higher b/c ummmm...well their logo is really cool?
Yeah Oilers or Islanders best all time yeah angstrom higher for the Oil... 70's has to be Montreal....90's Detroit...In that order for me.
It’s always so strange associating the Oilers with winning.
Yes... because the Oilers are the ONLY team in NHL history to have a bad decade... (this is why children should refrain from commenting)
I’m 27, and I’ve witnessed one playoff appearance in my adult life.
No flippin way are the oilers better than Isles. NYI went to 5 in a row ans won 4 straight. That simple fact makes them the #1 team of the 80s
If it wasn't for the Oilers, the Islanders would've probably had 5+ Stanley Cups
Not so sure about that, they were totally gassed in the 1984 Final, and, they didn't beat a team other than the perpetually-underachieving pre-2018 Capitals in the Playoffs until 1993.
@@matthewdaley746 yeah, they were playing 10-20% more hockey than the other teams, gassed is about right.
@@matthewdaley746 they were gassed because of the Oilers which had Wayne Gretzky, and Mark Messier just to name a few of their players. I'll give you that they didn't win much after 1984, but that's kind of given because the core got old and we all know what happens when core players get old.
@@ScarecrOmega They also were older, the only great player who was still on the team by the 1990s was Bryan Trottier.
@@AweShiyte It also didn't help that Mike Bossy had his career cut short by injuries, that really sped up their demise.
The Islanders at 2 is laughable. Definitely didn’t expect that garbage from you of all people 🤣
He probably used the fact that they pretty much fell off of a cliff after 1984 as the deciding factor in the rankings tiebreaker.
What did they do from 1985 through 1989?
@@TheHockeyGuy They went 2-4 in Playoff Series, missing them in 1989, both wins were against the Capitals, who lost them way more than the Islanders won them.
Anyone else cant sleep becuz of a hot sausage?
Ok then...
I knew Edmonton was gonna be 1.
Well he was wearing an Oilers jersey
Oilanders win
Both the Isles and Oilers won four Cups and lost one final in the '80s, so they're even there. The Isles, however, won 19 straight playoff series, something no other professional North American sports team had ever accomplished, nor has accomplished since, and that "tiebreaker" should have put them at #1.
Oh and Shannon won't do the 70's because let's face it, it's just another Montreal fest, Habs would have
all top 3 spots on the Power Rankings.... lolololol
Well top 3 would be montreal, philly and boston for sure.
Hey I
No VGK? Unsubscribe. Lol

@@TheHockeyGuy Imagine how good they would have been if they'd had a goaltender like Patrick Roy, or, Mike Vernon, backstopping them.
I love the Isles, but you have to give it to the Oliers. The isles fell off pretty quickly after 84.
@@allsystemsgo8678 They were an old team, that got older, Mike Bossy getting injured would be the final nail in their coffin.
