@@noremac0575 Dude... it's worse when you think that Buffalo, Detroit, LA, Ottawa, Anaheim and every other team right now we consider "bad" (the division setup is hard to say which team is truly bad right now and which ones just got bad luck of the draw on matchups), but every one of those teams has not just won a round, but been to the Conference Finals and the Finals (if not winning a Cup or two) since the last time Toronto won a round... Yeah, Vegas fans if they had to deal with that would probably be very angry if not infuriated based on their comments right now.

I feel some of your pain as a Jets fan out of their tv market I get Centre Ice and they continually choose to give me only the other Canadian teams broadcast and I know there is a Jets broadcast. No excuse for it.
They've been night and day better on the ice with Granato and without Staal/Hall, but then they do things that make me skeptical like hire Jason Karmanos as assistant GM, who got singled out and fired by his own Dad in Carolina. Sabres looked at the Bills did and said 'hey let's pick up Carolina guys' except the Sabres are poaching from what was a 10 year playoff drought, not a Superbowl run. Even if they choose Granato as the full-time HC and he has the team playing above their pay grade, he can only do so much if they make poor roster moves. Hopefully I've never been more wrong, but my fan confidence is at like 3%
Agreed, I think a lot of us Wings fans are excited for the future. We know its a long road and its gonna take time for Yzerplan to right the ship. Many of us remember the team before the glory of the 90s-10's. We've been down this road before, except now we have THE Captain in charge. Last time he led the team it turned out pretty good.
He has a proven track record of building a winner. He took Tampa a team that looked destined to waste the careers of Hedman and Stamkos and turned them into a multi-year Finalist, a constant threat to make the conference Finals and ultimately a Cup winner! Yzer can get the job done! He currently does not have that Hedman and Stamkos to build around like in Tampa (yet) but in a few years Detroit will be good again if not great.
As someone who watches the SHL and has seen Seider quite a bit this year (his team destroyed mine in the playoffs). He looks like a stud, both with and without the puck, even winning puck battles against some of the strongest veteran players in the league.
@@milochanel9491 The wings have two blue chip prospects in Seider and Raymond, plus a plethora of other solid prospects working their way up the rankings. Plus they have 22 picks in the next two drafts. Not a single one of Stevie's draft picks have played an NHL game yet, you won't see the fruition of his work for another season or two.
@@Wexter0083 very reasonable assessment on your part. also what i like coming up is DET has 9 guys on expiring contracts. plus a pile of '21 and '22 draft picks. the recent trade of mantha for varana/panik and a 1st+2nd was fantastic. when the team starts to get better again, yzerman will have a good reputation to lean on that could help attract pieces/UFA's that could take the red wings to the next level. i think in 2-3 yrs from now, the red wings will be back in the playoffs. cheers from southern ontario 🍁
I'm back and forth. At the beginning of the season when we lost Krug and Chara I was pissed. But I love how good our rookie goalies have looked. However we are getting old and I don't know what kind of plan we have to replace Bergeron, and Krejci when they retire. No problem with coaching and we did just make the finals two seasons back so we'll see. Killing it so far after the trade deadline.
Dubois leaving did play a big role in CBJ's downfall tbh. I'm still convinced that Dubois left for personal reasons, it can't be easy living in a foreign country in the midst of the pandemic. He doesn't have to jump through a bunch of hoops to see his family anymore and his dad works for the WPG organization. We've been in a retool since Panarin left and I think making the playoffs last season made a lot of people forget that.
You and others predicted the Winnipeg Jets would be dead last in the North. Now we're in second, inching closer to first. I can assure you, we're happy
Nah, you got it all wrong here in Winnipeg. We Jets fans have a saying "In Chevy we trust." When our blue line vanished during a single off-season, we fans knew we weren't going to be great for a year or two while. We're still in that phase. Even we are a first round exit this year, we know that next year is probably going to be a lot better with Heinola and Perfetti coming up. Not to mention how Chevy turned the Trouba situation into an absolute win for us. Chevy ain't going nowhere.
I still think it was Petro wanting the money and Armstrong not wanting to give him 9 mil (I don’t remember the contract). I think fans are mad because of where he went and not the fact he left in general.
It was rough seeing Pietrangelo go. I’m more upset at the fact that it feels like we haven’t had a healthy team all season. That, and JB looking like a below average goalie most of the time.
Winnipeg has a good team and a bright future. We really seem to be moving in the right direction AND we have some really good prospects in the pipeline. I think they should have rated much better in terms of fan confidence, at least among those who really understand hockey (and Winnipeg hockey IQ is pretty darn good). In terms of the media, Winnipeg gets overlooked and always has been. We are a small market. Nobody in the US, especially the east coast knows anything about Kyle Conner or Nick Ehlers much less Lowry, Copp, etc. They’ve heard some about our top line and of course PLD. This isn’t going to change unless we get to the semi finals.
I'm a leafs fan, and I know about all of your damn players. Do us a favour, and just let us win if you face us in the playoffs. Youd save many lives. Most of us leaf fans will commit suicide if we dont make it out of the division.
Bruins fans are on hold for a little bit with the Don Sweeney hate to see how the deadline additions do. First impressions through 2 games is pretty good, though I think you’re right that the core is just too old at this point to likely have a deep playoff run.
I think Buffalo fans are happy rn. Young guns looking really good, team is playing really good under Granato without Eichel. Ik we say this every year, but if we remove Granatos interim tag, next year looks really bright
Vegas fan here. There is definitely a ton of pressure to win the Cup. Sometimes I wonder: what if Vegas didn’t make the Finals in year one? Would they have the same pressure they do now? Answer is no
I agree. I think Vegas has a very good team, but there is a lot moves the organization did because they were not expecting to be that good out of the gate. Bringing in Pacioretty and Stone and trading out Suzuki and Brannstrom. Then acquiring Lehner (good move he is still young and may still perform once Fleury retires) as well as inking Pietrangelo to that coo coo for coco puffs contract... yeeks that will age like milk in a few seasons (also not a huge fan of Stone contract with that cap hit and term). I mean they clearly brought in some great talent, but did sacrifice the future for a win now mentality. My thought as a hockey fan and have seen GMs do this in the past that if Vegas does not win within the next 2-3 seasons then they will be hurting once that cap-crunch and lack of elite level prospects come back and bite them hard!, My thought is that if they did not make it to the Finals in the first year they'd have a much slower and methodical approach than what they have done the past few seasons by bringing in name talent to get them over the hump.
@@goreoproductions6955 Same, but with Mark Stone. I'd like to see Stone win a Cup... but Vegas... not really. They've become the villain of a lot of NHL fans due to early success. But, we have to remember what comes up must come down! Vegas fans will know pain soon enough give it a 3-5 seasons.
@@jackoats4911 You say that now... but trust me when your team comes back down to Earth it is like going through the Sports Fans steps of Grief 1) Denial - You feel you are just one trade away from being a top team in the league. But, you're fine either way because your team is at least still "good" and maybe might get a solid matchup in the first round. 2) Bargaining - You will covet other teams prospects and wonder why your team does not have those so you can remain competitive. You start making Reddit posts about hypothetical trade offers to other teams of anchor contracts you have for their future young stars. 3) Anger - You blame the GM, the Owners, anyone because your team is slowly starting to look like they need to rebuild and you do not want to accept it. Or in some cases wondering why the GM is just making trades to stay in the playoff race even though your window is realistically over. 4) Acceptance - You accept the rebuild and look forward to the next time your team makes the playoffs. But, you still look back nostalgically and just go "what if" That is what it will be like when your team slips out of the top of the league. Trust me I've been there more than once! :) As for where depression is? That is for when the rebuild goes longer than expected. I call it the Buffalo/Edmonton Dilemma.
You guys are going to get some good players in the draft. I know for damn sure that y’all are gonna get somebody good from the Blues. We just have a lot of depth, and too many guys to protect lol
For Colorado... many fans are frustrated with the Kronke organization. The TV contracts are not happening because Kronke wants more money....so the fans suffer because of this foolishness. Even with having the right tv supplier, a lot of the games can’t be watched.. So fans are very restricted on what and when the games can be watched. So.... what can be done? Frustration seems to be the order of the day!
As a Mtl fan, i'd say frustration is what define best the fan base here. We have a good team, things seem to go the right way, the future look bright and yet, the team still struggle and can't take that next step where they are contenders and not fighting for a playoff spot until the last week.
For Flyers. Fletcher basically outright said during his mid season press conference that if the team doesn't pick it up and impress him by the trade deadline (spoilers: they didn't impress) he was going to make serious changes after the expansion draft. Likely a few prospects and picks to rework the defense and newer reports about moving Patrick.
@@trisgilmour I personally think it was correct to move on from Trotz. Except for the amazing cup win heads had been butting. Everything came together that spring but another coach was warrented, just not Reirdan. He is such a pussy. Need a tough guy experienced dude. Like Laviolette.
Anaheim has a lot of fire Bob Murray/fire Dallas Eakins talk right now. This season was terrible and Bob Murray is only half committed to a rebuild while resigning veterans to bad contracts. Eakins would also be the third coach to be fired in the last 3 years.
As a Flyers fan, I'm surprised we weren't in the top 5. Expectations were high & we've had inconsistency & poor performances for many seasons. My biggest frustrations are the handling of special teams, goalies, defense & just lack of leadership. I want the players, coaches, & management to show passion. Seems like we're in a perpetual rebuild, just spinning our wheels. Something has to change both on the bench & behind it.
I had a feeling Detroit would be the lowest of the non-playoff teams. The team and fanbase are self aware of what they are, which helps expectations. And, as you said, Yzerman has been seemingly making every right move. Plus, especially lately, the team normally plays better than their record would indicate.
It's been positive watching the younger core (Hronek, Zadina, Rasmussen in particular) improve incrementally through the season, they are pretty different players to how they were just a year ago, much wiser and more intense. I think they've all overtaken the likes of Mantha and Bertuzzi pretty quickly, no offence to those players. Next stage is seeing those players grow even more skills and game sense, and then seeing the likes of Lindstrom, maybe Berggren, maybe Seider and possibly Raymond take the same steps next season hopefully if they're ready. I'd almost given up on Svechnikov but his play this year has shown you need patience with young players. Also there's gonna be one surprise player stepping into the Wings lineup next year who we never expected who will turn out to be a steal. That's just a guess but I feel that way
Would you move Larkin? I know he just became captain and all of that but if you put him on most other teams I don't see him fitting into a top 2 center role. He seems destined for the 3rd line. Just curious.
@@jessemielen698 nope, you always need good veteran leadership on young teams, you can’t have young players surrounded by mediocre players because that will just extend our rebuild. On the other hand if Larkin asks for 8 million for over 5 years on his next contract and we still aren’t good, then you probably look to trade him. But Stevie Y is such a good gm I think we can extend Larkin at a reasonable contract of similar value to what he’s on right now.
@@jessemielen698 you know, I'm not sure what I would do with Larkin. I do know that I wouldn't have traded Mantha, but Yzerman did. And we all consider that an absolute win of a trade. So I'm just gonna sit back and trust him without saying what he should/shouldn't do.
MTL: Has two first line forwards as pending UFA self-rentals. Has two aging players carrying a substantial load on the team with more and more difficulty Has two aging players making a combined 18m for another half decade Will be hard-pressed to ice a better team in a year than they have now (Cap/UFAs/Aging Stars) Is currently falling out of a playoff spot. I'd have put them 3rd after Buffalo and Vancouver.
Watching fellow Tampa fans rally behind the Bolts (prior to 2020), despite their shortcomings in the playoffs, especially after the Columbus sweep, is awesome. Pretty solid attendance numbers, and just an overall great fan base for a team in Florida.
I'd say I'm mostly happy with the direction the Caps are going. The past two postseasons have been disappointments and the team has taken steps to get better (firing that bum coach, getting free agents that don't suck, etc). The Vrana trade made me sad but the way they've utilized that cap space gives me more faith in MacLellan. The next three or four years will be critical however.
I like where the Wild are placed. Although Guerin’s moves other than signing Talbot haven’t produced much there seems to be a real plan for the first time in years. They have a lot of expiring contracts that could create cap space this off season and some quality players in the pipeline. Future looks bright in Minnesota.
The biggest discontent Oilers fans have right now is this brutal schedule they have to play since a few of the teams they had games left against unfortunately got hit by covid and it's only annoying because it feels like they are getting punished schedule wise for other teams misfortunes even though they themselves have done everything right and not got covid.
It isn't necessarily anyone's fault if they get COVID. It takes one player's family member contracting it to hit the whole team. Everyone has to go get groceries and leave their house -- from any team -- and there is a risk each time you do that. In some regions that risk is even higher. Canadian teams are less likely to have been vaccinated than American teams, so they're also at increased risk. Players living in BC are at higher risk of getting the horrible Brazillian variant, which is highly, highly contagious AND is getting a lot of young people. So, really, I think it was a perfect storm for the Canucks, unfortunately.
The schedule going forward is brutal for the Oilers. I dunno how they get any groove going or any rest going into the playoffs. I honestly not expecting them to make it out of the first round.
I think the most frustrating thing about the sharks is that on paper they’re a great team. Bunch of projected 25+ goal scoring forwards 2 Norris trophy winners on D. A goal tender who has shown he can be good. Then the whole team collectively implodes and most of the players have career low years. They come out and smash a playoff bound team and then the week after get their asses handed to them back to back by bottom feeder teams. It’s infuriating.
I think that there will be a lot of extensions that are agreed upon, but not signed until after the extension draft. If you play with the expansion draft simulator, you realize that a lot of teams would be in deep trouble if they extended their UFAs before the expansion draft, because then they'd have to expose players they really don't want to lose
Me (a Winnipeg fan): Ooh, the list isn't alphabetical, I might not have to wait the whole video to see where he puts us. Me, 30 minutes later: .....goddamnit
18:20 - One of just four players that was drafted by Montreal who is currently in their lineup (or at least an injury away from being back in) is Jake Evans, a seventh-round pick... I'm feeling attacked right now.
As a Ducks fan I'd have them way lower (around the 20s or so). For me, this season and the next are just a waiting period... they might move up depending on trades and signings this summer, but for now I'm in the wait-and-see camp. I appreciate your hard work Shannon, keep it up!
the lightning have a fantastic franchise with good fan support in the tampa area. just a shame that hardly anybody else outside of tampa actually cares about the team. i really appreciate what jeff vinik has put together over the years! looking forward to watching brayden point take it to another level. cheers from southern ontario 🍁
As a kings fan i gotta say you nailed my feelings about the Kings. I think most of us fans there are in the middle, there are too many unknowns to make any judgements yet.
I think the Islanders will have a bit of blank slate with this year's playoffs due to Anders Lee. We obviously expect to make it out of the first round, but if we don't the fanbase should be quick to chalk it up to the loss of the captain.
Us isles fans are very happy with our orgs moves since Tavares left. getting Lou and trotz was great but most fans have been upset with the teams play since Lee’s injury. before the injury no teams in the division could touch us but after we’ve been good but not great. palmieri and zajac haven’t meshed into our system well at all. could def make a run in the coming years but this isn’t our year. And who know how lee will be when he returns. Scary for us rn
Talk about frustration, being a Sharks fan, still to this day, not even 1 Stanley Cup, and we have had a lot of really good teams, the Sharks need a new GM, but Im use to this, I was a Seals fan in the late 60's until they moved in 1977.
Once Stan Bowman came clean and admitted they were in a rebuild the pressure was off at least for a few years. Then there were the absence of Toews and injuries to Dach and Nylander plus no proven starting goalie. Lankinen turned into a pleasant surprise as well as some of the other rookies. They definitely bought Bowman some time. But if the Hawks don’t get in the playoffs in the next few years, heads will roll.
Incredibly surprised to see Vancouver maxed on Salary Cap. No space to work at all, and 48/50 contracts? I'd be very pissed with that large of a hole to dig out of. I'm very content as a Red Wings fan with our cap flexibility, drafts, and about to see a lot more from their new entry levels coming up. Feels like 4-5 years wings might be going past round 1.
As a Flyers Fan, I am beyond disappointed and surprised they are not higher. I feel bad for Buffalo fans who won't be able to enjoy their team beating us so many times when the division goes back to normal. Also, our prospects (Sanheim, Myers, NAK and Patrick) have all disappointed and arguably regressed. The mix of this with aging vets is a problem. But thats just my opinion, great list and content as always!
Canadian teams are always under pressure to make and perform in the playoffs. Especially my team, Toronto, and the arch-enemy Montreal Canadiens, lol. The team I'd like to address though is the Edmonton Oilers. What Ken Holland has to watch out for is that if he doesn't get help for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, McDavid might finally get fed up and ask for a trade. I for one would not blame him because ever since he's been there they've failed to build the team around him and give him help.
As a yotes fan, I completely agree. I think Tocchet may have taken the team about as far as he can, my question, as always with a coaching change, is who can you attract that is better than what you have. Armstrong did great and brought some needed talent to the Valley and as this season has shown, we have some great talent in the pipeline on the Roadrunners.
I bet this year Toronto hase to get it done for that fan base this is the first time I think they finally built around Matthew’s and Marner equivalent to Pittsburgh’s Crosby and Mulkin there is really no reason for Toronto not to win at all.
As a Preds fan, I would have put them top 8 early in the season, and I still don't like how Poile has managed his cap space. But the real reason I don't see them there anymore (and agree with your ranking) is that the prospect pool that management has been raving about for years with nothing to show for it is finally getting a chance to play, and actually looks competent. Tolvanen, Trenin, Carrier, Jeannot, Davies, and even the guys still in the AHL/Taxi Squad like Tomasino and Novak are the reason I'm not still calling for a regime change.
Bergevin has done well...recently...we were stationary for 7 years under him so when does he just run out of time, he is coming up on 10 years as GM, but recently I think he has done well so I honestly don't know
Taking the local teams off TV combined with another “rebuilding” year for both Kings and Ducks has resulted in a loss of interest overall and some definite discontent.
Come next season, Oilers are going to rank much higher on this list. I think most fans this season don't have high hopes for a cup, a series win or two would be great. But next season, once we actually have cap space to work with and some of the Chiarelli messes off the books, whoo boy...Holland better get the right pieces in for some hard runs while Leon and Connor are here and in their primes. There would be no more excuses left.
Buddy, there's good reason for the whining. Imagine going 50 years with less cups than most teams have despite existing for like 1% of the time the leafs have.
Rangers logo is interesting. How it’s filled in with red on the right, but left blank in the left. The sideways lettering on the “Rangers”. One of my favourite teams, but interesting logo to say the least
I questioned Ken Holland the second he took AA instead of defense. Ducks cap space is troubling for rebuild with full contracts. I think the Leafs way up there is hilarious for how well they are doing, but I've watched Toronto media and totally get it. Idk how Arizona isn't higher until lots get fixed, rink, management, a good run?
Sabres fan from Buffalo here, we love Granato gerardi and Ellis! They really got these guys rolling and honestly I think Kevin Adams will get better I say keep them all!
For buffalo there's no reason to be upset anymore. Season has been over for months now. Every day that passes is one day closer to the season being done. Play for fun and just show signs of improvement which they have
As a Jet fan since the WHA I believe that Chevy deserves a better status with the fans. Being a GM in Winnipeg has it's challenges. At the same time I don't know who he would replace above him.
That’s exactly where I’d put Detroit. Definitely the most comfortable of any fan base with a team that’s not in playoff contention. We believe in the Yzer-plan!
When you were talking about Arizona you mentioned they could fire Rick the coach. But he is in the last year of his contract and It’s unlikely he will come back
Winnipeg getting rid of Chevy would be the dumbest decision they've ever made. He's the guy that made the Blackhawks the powerhouse they were in the late 2000's and turned the former thrashers (one of the worst teams) into a team that could compete and be widely regarded as dangerous in the playoffs.
For us Buffalo fans, we're definitely happy, simply because the season will be over in a few weeks.

Yea we've definitely calmed down a bit haha. The kids are playing great and Granato seems like a pretty good coach.

Yeah but there's no real talent on the team?
As someone who watches the SHL and has seen Seider quite a bit this year (his team destroyed mine in the playoffs). He looks like a stud, both with and without the puck, even winning puck battles against some of the strongest veteran players in the league.
@@milochanel9491 The wings have two blue chip prospects in Seider and Raymond, plus a plethora of other solid prospects working their way up the rankings.

I'm just here to see where the Bruins fanbase is, given how much like Jekyll and Hyde it can be after games. 😂
Jack Edwards is perfect for The Bruins fan base.
with the absence of center depth for Boston, idk for how long Boston will be happy
Spoken like true Canucks fans.
I've honestly also been wondering what Dubois knew that we didn't about Columbus. I wasn't expecting such a downfall for them this season.
Dubois didn't like Torts coaching style anymore than the rest of the team. He was just brave/stupid enough to vocalize it.
I wonder too if there weren’t some cultural/political divides in the locker room.

Nah, you got it all wrong here in Winnipeg. We Jets fans have a saying "In Chevy we trust."
When our blue line vanished during a single off-season, we fans knew we weren't going to be great for a year or two while. We're still in that phase. Even we are a first round exit this year, we know that next year is probably going to be a lot better with Heinola and Perfetti coming up. Not to mention how Chevy turned the Trouba situation into an absolute win for us.
Chevy ain't going nowhere.
Earth is 4.5 billion years old, and we're lucky enough to live in the same period of time as THG. we're truly blessed.
There were a lot of Blues fans around me who are upset with how the team is going. Especially the decision with letting Pietrangelo walk.
Pietrangelo wanted a full NMC. Army just doesn’t do that. That was the hang up. The team misses 27. But they can move on and will.

My thought as a hockey fan and have seen GMs do this in the past that if Vegas does not win within the next 2-3 seasons then they will be hurting once that cap-crunch and lack of elite level prospects come back and bite them hard!,
My thought is that if they did not make it to the Finals in the first year they'd have a much slower and methodical approach than what they have done the past few seasons by bringing in name talent to get them over the hump.
I’m so conflicted about you guys. As much as I want Petro to get a million cups, man I do not want VGK to lol

1) Denial - You feel you are just one trade away from being a top team in the league.
But, you still look back nostalgically and just go "what if"
That is what it will be like when your team slips out of the top of the league. Trust me I've been there more than once! :)

As a Mtl fan, i'd say frustration is what define best the fan base here. We have a good team, things seem to go the right way, the future look bright and yet, the team still struggle and can't take that next step where they are contenders and not fighting for a playoff spot until the last week.
If bipolar could manifest into a hockey team... It's the Habs. We have two teams. We just never know which one shows up...
That's a really nice hat, not gonna lie.
Caps would definitely be higher up if Reirden was still coach but if they lose in the first round again the fans are gonna be furious
Very true 👍
Reirdan was a disaster. Cost 2yrs of Aging on the core players. Should have fired him in 2019.

Oh, caps fans will be mad? You guys just won a cup recently, still have a dynamite team. My team has been shit for 50 years. Yea go ahead, guess who.
Anaheim has a lot of fire Bob Murray/fire Dallas Eakins talk right now. This season was terrible and Bob Murray is only half committed to a rebuild while resigning veterans to bad contracts. Eakins would also be the third coach to be fired in the last 3 years.
The only time you see Tampa at 31 on a power rankings
Wait until Raymond wholy crap he or Stutzle might be the best playmakers in this draft or overall
MTL:
Has two first line forwards as pending UFA self-rentals.
Has two aging players carrying a substantial load on the team with more and more difficulty
Has two aging players making a combined 18m for another half decade
Will be hard-pressed to ice a better team in a year than they have now (Cap/UFAs/Aging Stars)
Is currently falling out of a playoff spot.
I agree that the direction of team has improved but we have to win this postseason or the next before people call for GMBM job
@@trisgilmour I agree. If they dont have another cup within the next 3 years at least the fire needs to be turned up.
I like where the Wild are placed. Although Guerin’s moves other than signing Talbot haven’t produced much there seems to be a real plan for the first time in years. They have a lot of expiring contracts that could create cap space this off season and some quality players in the pipeline. Future looks bright in Minnesota.
It makes it seem like the Fletcher years are soo far behind.
From afar the coyotes logo looks like the poop emoji. Very telling

When you were talking about Arizona you mentioned they could fire Rick the coach. But he is in the last year of his contract and It’s unlikely he will come back
Winnipeg getting rid of Chevy would be the dumbest decision they've ever made. He's the guy that made the Blackhawks the powerhouse they were in the late 2000's and turned the former thrashers (one of the worst teams) into a team that could compete and be widely regarded as dangerous in the playoffs.
personally I would rank Winnipeg 26th above Minnesota
3 Canadian teams on the top row, none on the bottom row. Best Canadian placement is Edmonton at 23. O Canada, time to turn it around!
