The Sabres have 20 players that were either not on their roster last year or didn’t play a full season with them. On Defense they had Dahlin, Risto and Miller and for Forwards are Reinhart, Olafsson, and Skinner were in the roster for the entire year. They are already rebuilt, as you say what do or add next year? On the Injured players list Eichel, McCabe, Girgenson, Hutton, Okposo and Ullmark who comes back? And who coaches them? Do they keep the reverse retro jersey’s.... (hehe)? Lots of questions for the Sabres to answer next year.
Im hoping Torontos depth can really help in the playoffs. Guys like Simmonds Thornton and Foligno aren't the best regular season producers but when the playoffs come I expect them to be more effective when the whistles get put away.
Vegas fan here, and I am still not looking past the Wild or the AVS cause they both could turn it on any second, but man I want a rematch with Ovi and the Caps! Reves v Wilson!!
Shannon, Do you think the Kraken are going to take the Bigfoot print from the Av's since Bigfoot is more common to the Northwest?(i.e. former NBA Sonics mascot Squatch)
Shannon, A quick question from a Vegas/Chicago fan. In the Chicago Stanley Cup runs, the starting goalie for the playoffs was pretty obvious. However, since the signing of Robin Lehner, Vegas has had a constant rotation between him and Fleury in the regular season games. That rotation has been extremely successful. I think the goalie controversy last year in the playoffs affected the entire team and caused Vegas to fall short. My question to you is why can't DeBoer continue with the rotation of Fleury and Lehner in the playoffs? Why does everyone feel you have to give the net to one or the other when the playoffs begin?
We better be above 8th after this one. 3rd team to clinch. Kaprizov has single handedly taken the skaters over and propelled us into the playoffs, Wild are 26-3-0 when Kaprizov records a point. 5 game goal streak, and maybe even more coming. And we have the most home games remaining out of any team, 9 of our 11 remaining, where we are 17-4-0. All while rebuilding on the fly. Props to Billy G.
Shannon calling for Calgary to make the playoffs and having a series with Toronto being “fight filled” is one of the craziest takes I’ve heard on this channel 😂
@@TheHockeyGuy I think that would be the most coveted fight possible for sure. I don’t see any other leafs answering the bell other than maybe Foligno. So I don’t see it as a fight filled series. I also just don’t see Calgary grabbing that #4 spot from Montreal

My power rankings of NHL power rankings: 1. THG 2. ... 3. ?? 4. Ottawa. I know this doesn't make any sense but I just wanted to put Ottawa at the bottom of a list again.
Damn Columbus, that 31st spot belongs to NJ.. we’re about to get passed by a team that went winless for 18 straight games.. people say we’re tanking, no we just suck.. it’s unfortunate
None of the divisions are necessarily weak, it’s just that Edmonton and Winnipeg aren’t at a top 8 level of play yet. Ottawa is last in their division but ahead of all of the other division bottom teams. Edmonton and Winnipeg have the material to be one of the true top teams, but haven’t really made a push yet.
@@beardupbeerdown7355 well it depends on how good that 8th team is, but it means you play every team in your division one less time since the north currently has 9 game series going on instead of 8th. would probably make it harder for the wild card teams, since they dont get to play the other teams in the hunt as much, but it makes it easier for everyone else. also next year we're going back to old divisions (minus the coyotes, theyre getting moved to the central because of the kraken) so we'll see how difficult that division really was.
Wild only have 1 regulation loss against Vegas all year. I wouldn’t necessarily call it an upset if they beat them in a playoff series. Some teams just match up well against others.
@@Mr.Quinlan888 playoffs are a different animal. Look at the Caps against Vegas. Regular season they have never won ar t-mobile and in DC Vegas is on top as well. So, looking at the last 3 years regular season totals you'd think the Caps would be easy, EXCEPT, the killed vegas in 4 straight in the final after giving up game 1. Simply put, yeah, the Wild are a huge hairy ass thorn in our side during the regular season BUT, we could end up sweeping them if we meet in the playoffs. The playoffs are just such a different monster that you cant really compare how 2 teams will play each other based on the regular season, you just cant. So keep thinking China up as I believe it to be DESTINY that the Knights of old, Knights clad in gold, will finish the fight this year, though easy it wont be, no team will let us pass free but all we need, is for all to believe, and the cup of Stanly, to win it be manly, will March down the boulevard of dreams, to finish at the arena, of which none compare, and atop a point most high, we shall unfurl our championship banner to fly so that all whom pass by will forever know that in this year we finally beat every for and earned what had been so so close before, to only slip away in our past, but hang on, not so fast, as we finished the fight, and came out on top, though 5 years ago, no o e would have thought, a brigade of the unwanted into a plan they bought, and the Knightly brotherhood did bond fast, and forever shall it last, for this is but the first, of many to come, and a dynasty shall rise soaring into the skies, that elevate these mere men, to that of nearly gods!!
Let's say, for example, that the 4 first-place teams (as of april 24) get through to the final 4. It would be VGK-TOR and CAR-WSH (WvN, CvE). Now let's switch VGK for MIN, then it would become CAR-TOR and WSH-MIN (CvN, EvW)
Ducks/Kings series this week will be painful to watch. Good news though. Getzlaf is hurt and we might see Zegras or Carrick come back up. That’s bad when your captain gets injured and you couldn’t care less. I am done with this Ducks roster and coaching staff.
Man, may I have a question? How do you feel about the blue Lightning jerseys? I like the original black ones much better. I just can't imagine, if the Leafs completely changed to another color. Sure, we have the green St. Pats set, but that's a heritage thing, but with Tampa Bay I am disappointed, that they gave up on the black color.
@@cheekydemon6131 Most Lightning fans agree that our identity is black because of the history with winning the 04 cup in black. I think the change was to give the jerseys a cleaner, professional feel, as the team was trending upwards and the identity was changing. A lot of people don’t like our third all blacks, but I personally love them because black is still the heart of Lightning colours to me
I think Avs, Canes should have dropped a spot down and the Caps should be 2nd to Vegas. Caps are the best road team in the NHL and they took 4 points against the Isles, who have the best home record in the NHL. The Caps are doing all this with a rookie/young 2nd year goalies. Avs even without Grubauer should have beat the Blues(there is a reason they acquired Dubnyk) and the Canes just blew a 3-1 lead and lost to the Panthers in OT. This is called the POWER Rankings. When you lose, you lose some POWER and when you win you POWER up! With that said the Pens/Bruins should have dropped a spot for losing to the Sabres. Sabres are playing better, but none the less are a bottom 5 team. 2 much higher ranked teams should be penalized in the rankings for losing to a bad team.
This year is pretty interesting in the sheer lack of parity. The best teams are just so much farther ahead than the worst teams by a much larger magnitude than normal. I cannot wait for a normal season. The end of this season is just boring, considering it's just the best teams beating up the bottom teams every night (except Buffalo right now!)
How do you see the Sabres doing in the next season? I just don't think the divisions matter all that much. Great teams get to the POs in any division and in any format. For example my team (the Leafs) played well against the Oilers this year, so it can feel like "easy" points, but in the next season there will be bad teams too. Instead of playing the Oilers 9 times, we will play other bad teams, maybe even worse than the Oil considering they sit in a PO position.
@@cheekydemon6131 I wouldn't see a huge improvement, but I don't think they will be anywhere near 18 losses bad. I mean, if you look at their division this year, the only team that is in rebuild mode is New Jersey. I think Buffalo was one of the teams that was hurt by only playing division teams. For instance, if they would of came to the Central instead of say, Carolina, I think they would of had a far better time of it.
@@csolivais1979 You are right. The Sabres are in a tough division this year, but don't wish for the Central or Vrána hits you with the four ;-) Seriously though, it was good to see the Wings compete and not give up on the season. Tampa Bay - Vegas final. Both have balanced attack and best goaltending
Would be cool to see Chicago and Calgary in a conference final , a lot of fun and a lot of fighting
The reflection of the lights on the board looks like a hockey stick
Do you dream about hockey? You are so dedicated to your job that I bet you wear NHL jammies. Keep up the great work. 👍
You don't see Simmonds and Tkachuk getting into it? That series would get ugly fast.
Personally I'm all for some "Alberton beef" though I would prefer to see the Canucks enter the 4th slot
@@TheHockeyGuy I think that would be the most coveted fight possible for sure. I don’t see any other leafs answering the bell other than maybe Foligno. So I don’t see it as a fight filled series. I also just don’t see Calgary grabbing that #4 spot from Montreal
@@spartan4196 if Toronto playing Calgary, and then Calgary beating the Leafs meant we get a battle of Alberta series, I’d be okay with that. As a hockey fan it would be incredible. Just a lot has to go right for that to happen.
Calgary would beat the living crap out of TO.. (Fighting) No one on to can take Lucic or Ritchie on that team. Not even Simmons .....
I didn't know that Shannon's favorite team is Calgary. I keep watching all the great videos in this channel and once in a while I'm asking myself "Which team is Shannon's favorite?". Calgary is in the race for the 4th spot, so we'll see what happens....
My power rankings of NHL power rankings:
1. THG
2. ...
3. ??
Boston would be the 8th seed in a typical 1-8 East Conference matchup. That's how stacked the typical Eastern Conference is.
I have a very similar list. I find it so hard to rank the top 8 teams. It's so close
thank shannon
What is your thought process for having non of the north teams in the top 5. Do you think the north is overall the weaker division?
There's two from the Central, two from the West and one from the East, but I don't think the North is weak.
@@jdrangers4889 the North also has 1 less team than the other divisions, so how would a hypothetical 8th team affect the standings/rankings?
@@beardupbeerdown7355 well it depends on how good that 8th team is, but it means you play every team in your division one less time since the north currently has 9 game series going on instead of 8th. would probably make it harder for the wild card teams, since they dont get to play the other teams in the hunt as much, but it makes it easier for everyone else. also next year we're going back to old divisions (minus the coyotes, theyre getting moved to the central because of the kraken) so we'll see how difficult that division really was.
@@jdrangers4889 it'll be really interesting looking back at the 19-20, 20-21, 21-22 seasons as a trilogy in retrospective comparison
Shadow just wanted some scratchies.
A bit harsh on Vancouver me think. They beat nr 1 in their division twice- a couple of moves upward seems legit
Wild only have 1 regulation loss against Vegas all year. I wouldn’t necessarily call it an upset if they beat them in a playoff series. Some teams just match up well against others.
Not only this year. Wild was always a horrible match for Vegas. Just look it up.
Definitely nervous if Vegas plays Minnesota in the playoffs. They seem to have their number.
MN matches up well with Vegas
I hope we get a Leafs-Jets series after seeing the game last night. It would be a scrummy series for sure
That California joke had me falling out of my chair. Bravo
Do we know how the playoff bracket will be? Mainly for the conference finals(which divisions will be playing who)
I believe the 2nd-round winners will be re-seeded based on regular season record, and matched accordingly (1v4, 2v3).
@@iankniel you'd be correct. It's the setup being used this season.
I think it’s Central v East and North v West
@@jdrangers4889 Nope. The winners of the divisional rounds will be reseeded 1-4 based on regular season record.
Wow, Tampa really dropped. As much as I am a Leafs fan, I am not even sure it should be higher than 10. Tampa, Boston are both good teams.
We only have 3 weeks left of the regular season? It's like the season just started
Auto play time traveled me back here Oct 2024🤯
Ducks/Kings series this week will be painful to watch.
Good news though. Getzlaf is hurt and we might see Zegras or Carrick come back up. That’s bad when your captain gets injured and you couldn’t care less. I am done with this Ducks roster and coaching staff.
I have been waiting for this for all night after nhl games on Saturday night. 😴 💤 🏒 🦆
Completely agreed with putting Tampa there. It’s a slump, the question is what they do with it.
A lot of people don’t like our third all blacks, but I personally love them because black is still the heart of Lightning colours to me
Never thought I’d be up late enough for one of these. LOL.
Shannon, when is the MLB content going to make a debut? Would love to see it!
Man he's busy enough dear me 😂. When the hockey season is over.
best player out of this draft will be hidden somewhere between 3 and 20.
Being the underdog puts you in a great spot to learn something :)
In the next season when the Sabres are back it will be really tough too, but they will be able to travel outside the division to play easier teams.
Shadow showing they're a great caniac
Detroit still in the 3rd column. Can't complain.
Idk if I really care about Detroit not getting the lottery pick this year. Honestly seems very interchangeable in the top 10 this year. Very much a who do you like draft
Vancouver is making the playoffs. I’m making that prediction right now trust me.
THG if you can see calgary making the playoffs how can you not see Vancouver making it as well. We literally have 7 Games in hand with calgary if anyone has a higher chance of making the playoffs it’s Vancouver over Calgary.
@@dmanchanel Vancouver has a much harder schedule than Calgary, from now until our 4 game set Calgary has I believe 4 games and Vancouver has like 11
@@rylanmonaghan7694 also as a life long Canucks fan THG knows to not expect exactly anything from the team - hope for everything, expect nothing
@@rylanmonaghan7694 I see what your saying but before the break the Canucks where playing REALLY well and let’s not forgot we just beat the best team in the division twice. We might’ve gotten outplayed both games but we still won man. To my the path too the playoffs seems really easy for the Canucks and honestly what a story it would be for the Canucks to win the cup as well especially after coming out of the covid protocol situation. And I do think the Canucks can win the cup if they do make the playoffs cause that’d mean they are red hot going into the playoffs.
Vancouver has been the best team in the north since February. Just saying
If feb wasn’t as bad for them as it was it would be a very different story. Makes me hopeful for next year
Amazing the Blues are still in it. I hope they make it. They worked really hard.
