He’s nearly a point per game player and was a consistent 40+ goal scorer during his time with Atlanta. True. The HOF is a hockey hall of fame and should not just be NHL players. This would also add some more players to the list and players like Marleau would be locks for sure. So if someone played on Team Canada 6+ times but never won cup or heart does that make up for the lack of NHL awards? I think it does but that’s just me

With so many more teams now, winning a cup is statistically less likely and should not be a guarantee/deal breaker for HOF inclusion. Some very good players never won a cup or even had the chance. For example Lundqvist, Luongo and Miller. No cups. Kevin Hodson, Glenn Healy and Antti Niemi have cups. Who's more hall worthy? Maybe in the future even the president's trophy will be considered amongst the criteria. I think the process should be more transparent. If Quick and Miller get a look where is Tom Barrasso and Mike Vernon? And the perpetual debate over Chris Osgood.
Panarin would need a super long career since he started his a full 5 years after most star players make the NHL. At 24 he basically started in the NHL at the year that's typically the highest scoring for forwards, the prime of their career. I don't think he makes it.

Ovechkin and Crosby will likely get their 3 year waiting period waived just like Lemieux and Gretzky did because these are the two greatest players of this generation and they should be honored by having that 3 year waiting period waived, which I believe Bettman and the league will do as they did with Lemieux and Gretzky, and the same goes for McDavid when he is done he should get those 3 years waiting period waived as well
As an old Pittsburgh fan, I don't think Crosby gets the same benefit Lemieux did. He's incredible, a great player, but he's not Super Mario, not at all - he's not the sort of person who could have gotten in the Hall in three or four different ways. But if he didn't get in in his first year of eligibility, that's an absolute fucking robbery.

Crosby is also missing some of the hardware and not ahead in points due to his considerable injury problems. Going by his points being 6 behind with significantly less games played, and considering he was injured the most in his absolute prime during 130+ point pace seasons, it makes sense Ovechkin has more hardware. He's played more full seasons by a lot. Going by PPG, points per game, Crosby has been better over his career. The Stanley Cup stuff is a deal sweetener but I think the Conn Smythe trophy should be a consideration for both Crosby and Ovechkin, as well as Malkin, Keith, Quick and any other players I forgot who won the Smythe and are on that list. Listen, Crosby and Ovechkin are generational players, one is exceptional at goal scoring but the raw production of Crosby is just as important, maybe more so. I think it's fair to say Crosby is one step above Ovechkin but that takes away nothing from what Ovechkin is, the greatest goal scorer of all time, if not then of his generation by a mile. Era adjusted, he has to have the most absurd goal output ever.
Could you imagine an alternate dimension where the Caps draft Malkin #1 and Ovie falls to the Pens at #2 in 2004? Crosby and Ovie on the same line for their entire careers... Yikes... It doesn't surprise me one bit actually. Crosby has always been a point producing player whether it's scoring goals or picking up assists in bunches. If the guy did not get injured during those two or so seasons in the prime of his career, he would easily be at least 150 or so points ahead of Ovi. Ovi is one of my favorite players but he is more of a goal scorer than all around type. He doesn't pick up assists in bunches like Crosby does. Ovi is strictly putting up goals while Crosby was a 35-40 goal, 60-70 assist kind of guy in his prime.
@@langenbrunner1 It really does suck he got hurt back in 2010, he was really becoming a monster. He definitely would have hit 130 and 140 wouldn't have been a stretch.
Respectable list. I'll throw Dustin Brown in the ring for being the first American captain to lead his team to the Cup (x2) and leading the league in hits for a good number of years. You might say those aren't HOF stats, but they represent a career. Also, if there's a wing of the Hall for warriors, Joe Pavelski gets in there before Logan Couture.
Some international hockey clout could help. Olympics: Miller was mvp in 2010, Kessel was scoring leader in 2014, Kovalchuck was mvp and gold medalist in 2018. In the annual championship: Spezza was the scoring leader 2015, Rinne was mvp 2014, Josi was mvp 2013, Kovalchuck 2010. Kucherov has been in the top10 quite a few recent years. Okay maybe one win here and there doesnt help but if you’re a regular success internationally that can mean a lot.
I feel that for players you need at least 2 of 3 for personal hardware, was dominant for multiple seasons, or were key pieces in at least one Stanley cup. For goalies, it feels as if they need at least one of personal hardware or being a key part of a Stanley cup.
Im not a bruins fan but I love Brad Marchand. That guy is one of the best rats in NHL history, which is very valuable. Plus, hes a pretty decent 2way player that can play in any situation

@@allsystemsgo8678 Because people have pointed out as that being a major reason why they haven't voted for him for both induction and awards during his career. @@allsystemsgo8678 you're kidding right? Hunter is the only NHL player in history with over 1000 points and over 3000 penalty minutes. Serious comment: Personally I wish the Hall of Fame was based on “impact on a game”, because for me I think that’s way more important than playing 1000 games, racking up a ton of points, and benefitting by playing with some great players. A guy like Dustin Brown will never sniff the HOF yet nobody can tell me that from 2012-2014 he wasn’t one of the most impactful players in the league. Same thing goes for a guy like Mike Richards. Awards are great and all, yet there is extreme East Coast (and marketplace) Bias as well. If you were a force on a team that won a Stanley Cup, or carried your team, you should make the Hall.
When it's all said and done, I feel like Pasta might have to make it in the HoF. He's become one of the best goal scorers in the league right now and he's only got room to grow. If he plays like he is right now, and for long enough, he's going to get in. Mark my words. Also, Tuukka holds the wins record for the Bruins (a franchise that's almost 100 years old), 2nd in shutouts behind Tiny Thompson, and I think was instrumental in getting the Bruins to the Finals in 2019 as well as earning the team 2 President's Trophies in his tenure. I think the 2 Finals losses will taint it a bit, but he gets in, imo
I think all three should make it, but this list is "Current NHLers". Lots of retired (or still playing in Europe) guys who should make it, like Jagr, Datsyuk, maybe Kovalchuk
This reminded me that Chara is still going - Crazy to think about. There's guys in the league who were born in 2002, which is when Chara was already well into the league. Unreal.
I know some people may scoff, but I would really love to see Pekka Rinne get in. The NHL probably wants representation from all 32 teams and Rinne will absolutely get his number retired in Nashville once he hangs it up. He's the winningest Finnish goalie of all time with 59 shutouts (also the highest total by a Finn) with a career .917 percentage. Maybe not a marquee career but it would be nice to see a career Predator finally make it in
It's not the NHL HoF. It's the hockey hall of fame. How many teams the NHL wants in it is won't be a factor. You can get into the HoF having never played a game in the NHL.
Certainly a mention... RW 23 Dustin Brown (LAK), since you're wearing the gold and purple, C 11 Kopitar (LAK) who is certainly first-ballot as you suggested - also a player I could see leading a Kings front office some day..
Thornton 100% deserves 1st ballot HoF. Speaking as a lifetime Kings fan. We hated him. But he made San Jose the best CA team for a decade. And that made the Kings and Ducks strive to compete.
Absolutely. Life long Minnesota Wild fan and yes love watching Joe Thornton play for years. One of the toughest most team focused players of all time. We will miss watching him play. First ballot no questions asked. Hell of a career.
Even though Jumbo and Patty were drafted the same year, the biggest difference in their games played is that Patty has remained mostly injury free. Patty is at an almost 900 (880-900) game streak. He could potentially have the record for most games played and most consecutive games played. So his reliability to play and his decent scoring makes him a very good player even though he doesn’t have a Cup (yet🤞) or a lot of hardware.

You have to remember it is hockey hall of fame not nhl hall of fame. I think if someone has 2 or 3 medals from the Olympic s they will get in.
I agree. People saying Kovalchuk won't make it but he played alot in KHL so I think he still should because it's the hockey Hall of Fame not nhl
True. The HOF is a hockey hall of fame and should not just be NHL players. This would also add some more players to the list and players like Marleau would be locks for sure. One thought is do you think about how many times the player played internationally. So if someone played on Team Canada 6+ times but never won cup or heart does that make up for the lack of NHL awards? I think it does but that’s just me
Triple Gold Club is important too
Baseball HOF doesn't use those criteria. Personally, if you didn't play in that sports best league in the world, is what you did HOF worthy?
@@whoshotashleybabbitt4924 I don't see what baseball has to do with this. Players like Tretiak are in the hockey HOF. By your criteria he wouldn't be admitted.
Ryan Miller was a top notch dominate goalie for numerous years......that pushes him to a possible HOF
I was just thinking about him being on this list
HHOF takes international play into account too. No idea how he isn't instantly considered for the hall off the Vancouver Olympics run. Single handedly gave the US a chance against our stacked Canadian roster
Might be a bit of a controversial one here, but I honestly think Braden Holtby deserves a spot in the HoF.
-Won the Vezina in 2015-16
-Won the Jennings in 2016-17
-Amazing playoff run in 17-18 leading to a cup
-Tied for the record for most wins in a season with 48
-.926 save and 2.13 gaa on his career in the playoffs
-.915 save and 2.58 gaa on his reg season career
The guy was an absolute workhorse for the caps and is a great playoff performer.
Backstrom gets underrated so often that people forget he is top of his draft class in production, above Kessel or Toews. He's also defensively better than Toews.
Fleury was the starter in. 09 cup win and split time in playoffs and crucial in the cup win in 17. he deserves the respect of having won at least one cup as the true starter
Yeah I know that.
@@TheHockeyGuy it sounds like you know that.

Its always fun to imagine where stamkos would be for all time points if he didn't get hurt. One of the greatest purest goal scorers
Getzlaf was great in 13/14, 14/15 led them to the WCF, 16/17 great playoff run also. Was top two or three in the NHL in primary assists all those years, led the Ducks to lots of division titles. 120 points in 125 playoff games, hes been dominant
Yeah, for a brief period Getzlaf was arguably the second best forward in the league behind Crosby.
Agreed, felt like he sorta got overlooked here. Such an underrated player
Getzlaf is probably the greatest player from the 03 Draft Class, enough said
@@LeylaDerben I’d buy the Fleury and Bergeron argument but I can’t see him lower than top 3 from that class. And all 4 of them (Getzy, Bergeron, Fleury and Weber) are some of my favorites
He close to 1,000
I would have loved to see you take into account Olympic golds/international play. I think it pushes a few guys into the serious conversation (why I think Getzlaf is highly likely to get in with his contributions to Team Canada)
Marleau also has an Iron Man streak going at 850 games.
Panarin and Scheifele might make it into the conversation one day in the future, if they have long careers.
agreed
Yup
Panarin would need a super long career since he started his a full 5 years after most star players make the NHL. At 24 he basically started in the NHL at the year that's typically the highest scoring for forwards, the prime of their career. I don't think he makes it.
@@jasondashney Good points, we'll just have to wait and see.

Bettman has nothing to do with it. It's the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the NHL hall of fame.
@@TheShinyFeraligatr what do you mean he is not? He has won everything multiple times including rocket Richards, mvps, points, conn smythes, Stanley cups, World Cup mvp, world cup, gold medal, and even the golden goal. 17 straight seasons over a ppg second to Gretzky which is above lemuix. Crosby would have won so much more to if we wasn’t hurt all the time. All while doing this in an era that is much more skilled and harder to score. Both him and ovi do
Crosby must wait 3 years. Snubbing the 2009 handshake line was classless.
Love the kings jersey!
Your take on Marchand was perfect. If he keeps up his production for another 3 or 4 seasons hes in the hall. No about it. The 2011 cup run puts him over the top if his production continues.
I hate Brad Marchand, but Hockey guy's not wrong. Marchand's an ass on the ice, but if he doesn't put in the numbers..
As a former hockey high school hockey player in Minnesota you hate playing against a player like Marchand. If you have him as a teammate he’s the greatest teammate you can have. @@rivahkillah my point is there are people on this list that may not have the NHL numbers to be in the HOF, but when you also use international accomplishments it should put them over. Tavares can be a good example.
Fleury was extremely solid in both of his finals cupless runs. And he was the starter for the '09 cup. But yeah, I agree he certainly gets in. That's getting to be a stronger and stronger lock as he goes on in Vegas. And depending who retires the same year, he should be a first ballot.
How does Letang not even get a mention? 3 cups, 6 all-star games, and and probably ends up with 700ish points as a Dman. Plus there was that whole stroke thing he came back from and probably wins the Conn Smythe in 2016 if he doesn't get suspended for a couple games.

Yikes... I feel that Malkin is the better all-around player and would bring this up when a large number of Caps fans seemed to think that it was Ovie's fault for them not getting pasted the Pens in 2016/17 and wanted him traded.
Completely agree hardware doesn't tell the story. Not to mention, I think Sid has 4 2nd place hart finishes. I believe those prime years of Sid 2010-13 would of all been hart trophy years. There was no one even close to him skill wise. Everybody that has watched there careers pan out knows Sid was just better when pens had those back to back runs against detroit. All respect to Ovi though, both of them grew the NHL so much.
Ion think he ever mentioned or said ovi was better than Crosby?
Crosby and Ovi are locks. They should be 1-2 doesn’t matter the order.
So IOvechkin should be punished because he's managed to stay healthy. They're both sure fire hall of famers.
It would be so cool to see Crosby, Ovi, and Malkin make the hall the same year. Granted, that's coming from a pens fan.
If Kessel can play until like 38 and keeps up decent point scoring, I could see him getting in based on his popularity

Blows my mind how Crosby has played 164 less games & is only 6 points behind Ovi that’s just crazy to me.

You might say those aren't HOF stats, but they represent a career. Also, if there's a wing of the Hall for warriors, Joe Pavelski gets in there before Logan Couture.
Suter and Weber going in together would be an underrated HOF reunion
Weber is definetly getting in even without a Stanley Cup.

Ilya Mikheyev
Thoughts on the Sedin twins and Luongo making the hall?
Yes, yes and yes.
Maybe not a marquee career but it would be nice to see a career Predator finally make it in
he melts in important games, no chance.
and Predators are still a new franchise, be patient. maybe Tolvanen will make it there in 12-15 years.
It's not the NHL HoF. It's the hockey hall of fame. How many teams the NHL wants in it is won't be a factor. You can get into the HoF having never played a game in the NHL.

So his reliability to play and his decent scoring makes him a very good player even though he doesn’t have a Cup (yet🤞) or a lot of hardware.
