Yup he’s going to be a major piece in our continued success. If they don’t make big trades, I could see Jarvis and Drury being the future of our top 6 to follow right behind Aho Teuvo and Svech.
This was a memorable season for Buffalo, easily the best over the last decade, with so many positive vibes. Folks talk about Thompson a lot (and for good reason with 38 goals), but I would argue Skinner's 33 goals and 63 points stood out, as well as Dahlin with his 53 points, best point total by a Sabres defenseman in nearly two decades.
Just think about the 3 first round picks in this years draft and where that may take the Sabres.Getting rid of bloated contracts for players that want to be here and picks is smart business.Go Sabres go.
I would call it more of a memorable last 20 games or so, but it showed us their potential as they really started to come together as a team once Eichel as traded.
Agreed on Alex Tuch, as a Buffalo fan. He is the heart and soul of the team, being a fan all his life. This was his dream as a kid, and now he’s living it. Buffalo is now off of life support because of Alex Tuch and the spirit and passion he brings to this team. Within five years, Buffalo will be contenders.
Even if Vegas wins cup, I think the Sabres won the trade. Tuch might be the leader the Sabres needed, like Stamkos or Weber. Leadership is one of things that win Cup. And I'm Vegas fan
As a Canucks fan, Podkolzin really impressed me. Showed me that he can absolutely be impactful with his size and strength. Underrated shot imo, always gives 100% each shift. I expect him to get more ice time this coming season.

The most impressive Ranger was Braden Schneider. He was consistent all season long. He hardly had any defensive mistakes, is a solid hitter, reliable in all three zones, intelligent quick and decisive with the puck. I would say the only thing he needs to add is some offense and he’s a younger version of Trouba.
It was frustrating to hear everyone say Quick was washed up when really, he just wasn’t getting much help on defense. Glad to see him doing well now that the team in front of him is better. Still not sold on Petersen so hopefully his numbers improve cuz Quick’s not getting any younger…

Rem Pitlick was a nice call on your part, I watched pretty much every game Montreal played this year and I too was really impressed with him. I'm not sure what the problem is with him because he is an obvious 20 goal candidate on any team if he played full time in the top 6. He just has that nice touch around the net and he's a hard worker. He's exactly the kind of guy I look at and wonder why no one gave him a chance to play and contribute on the score sheet. Maybe he will get that chance in Montreal!
Tuch was huge for us last year but I gotta tip my hat to Okposo for his play, his leadership and him being the catalyst to the culture change and being the correct man to help lead this team as the de facto Captain. I believe Okposo will be the Captain next year as a show of appreciation for all he has done for Buffalo and he just deserves it and has earned it outright IMO
I think a part of why Laf was so effective in the playoff was the reemergence of his physical side. He almost reminded me if Tkachuk the way he was hitting and providing offense
On the Avs this season so many impressive guys. Nitchuskin, Kadri, Byram (fighting through concussion), Giguire (before injury) all played above their expectations.
As an Avs fan, gotta support our boy Frankie. Some stats for y'all Pavel Fracouz had a .911 sv% with a 3.01 GAA vs Edmonton. Most would look at those numbers and would think they are average to subpar. But lets take a look at what Edmonton did vs a Vesna trohpy finalist this year as well as a two time Vesna trophy finalist these playoffs. Markstrom - .848 sv% and 4.8 GAA Quick - .904 sv% and 3.43 GAA Edmonton was an offensive powerhouse during these playoffs, and Frankie played above his peers as a backup goalie
Dadonov’s handling of that shitty situation was true class, it definitely motivated him. Honorable mention to Chandler Stephenson who proved all the naysayers wrong. He stepped up big time when we needed him to.
I was apprehensive he'd be a flash in the pan after showing up last year and surprisingly scoring 9 times in 30 games but his play this year shows he can be a yearly threat to reach 20 goals.
Hartman has been huge for us, he signed an incredibly team friendly deal. Hes a team first player and plays his game no matter where he is in the lineup. If he isnt 1C next season I dont think he will have another career year but he will without a doubt still be a huge part of our team. Plus us wild fans love that we stole Hartman from chicago, and hes been playing great
As a fan of the team, I like having Hartman, but he was a liability in the playoffs against O'Reilly. He was invisible in that series. The Wild need a Frontline center if they want to compete.
Philly had Hartman after Chicago traded him in 2016 I'm a huge Ryam Hartman fan He was a 1st round pick for a reason. Plays with heart and soul and grit
It’s insane looking back on what we thought about the Eichel trade. Everyone thought Buffalo got shafted but they potentially have the face of their team for years to come while Vegas could be stuck in cap hell because of Eichels giant contract.
To get an upstate NY local who was a childhood fan of the team and a good prospect too was big. Honestly surprised Eichel had that much value. I forget what picks they got too but I definitely think Buffalo win the trade
Philip Danault (with Trevor Moore a close second) is the King who impressed me the most last season. Without his FA signing the Kings would have missed the playoffs this season.
Boqvist really jumped out at me for the Devils, he wasn't really in the lineup much last year and to see him make such a huge offensive impact at 3C is really something devils fans should be really excited about
Josh Archibald impressed me. The fact that he was willing to sacrifice all that money and potentially his dream job for his beliefs, and in the end of it all he got to play hockey into June. Showed a ton of integrity that most people who have an issue with him don't have an ounce of
Sabres fan here. Tage Thompson was fantastic. That St. Louis trade with O'Reilly looked like a total bust at first, but with Thompson's amazing breakout year of 38 goals even surpassing Eichel's highest total he had for Buffalo, he's turned into the massive forward Buffalo has needed for the power play and to keep games within reach for us with that lethal top line that if nothing else, will break down the defensemen. He's turned into an all star.
I was very impressed with Anton Forsberg as well. Hopefully the sens are competing for a playoff spot next year because they are only a few pieces away from being a good team.
For me it was Terry I was most impressed with. You saw flashes of it before this year but he finally put everything together is a constant threat on the ice.
Boqvist looked good- when he was healthy, but missed 32 games due to three different injuries. Hopefully the injuries are not a trend. In the end, the Jackets gave up Jones and a draft pick (#31 overall, Nolan Allan) for Cole Sillinger, Jake Bean, Adan Boqvist and this years #6 overall. What really tilts the trade in the Jackets favor is the Black Hawks are now in an all out rebuild and could desperately use the picks they gave up. The trade saved Columbus from having to do a similar complete teardown.
As good as Jones was in Columbus, it's remarkable that he turned into three everyday players under the age of 25, for less than half the money he got in Chicago. They had to give up a late first-rounder, but they still have a #6 coming. The players still have room for growth, but for a team in Columbus's position, it was a slam dunk trade.
now that my NYR are into their off-season,I want to congratulate you on the positive progression of your channel,it's awesome ! thanks to you and your lovely wife, all the animals as well....#THG👍
Certainly Moritz Seider! I knew he was really good because I saw him in Germany and Sweden but I did not expect him to be a Calder winner and arguably the Red Wing's most important player.

He can talk about the Columbus Blue Jackets or Anaheim Ducks every bit as well has he can talk about teams from Toronto, New York or Boston. "National" broadcasters could learn a lesson from this guy. Edit: A hardcore fan from say...Minnesota might know the Wild a bit better than THG. This is to be expected for anyone covering the entire league vs. a local hardcore fan or local sports caster. THG will rattle off a coherent opinion on the matter from the top of his head while the others probably stumble with blank looks.
Tage Thompson for Buffalo. Guy looked like a facepalm to the disaster that was the Ryan O'Reilly trade. This season: 78 games, 68 points, 38 goals. Kudos for Don Granato for having the foresight to move him to center. He's still under contract for one more year at 1.4 million and is an RFA after that.
I was impressed with Nick Paul when he played for the Sens and was happy for the Lightning when they acquired him. He's been more than impressive to me fitting in with the Bolts and contributing well.
Dobson is a big reason why I still like the isles chances - the top 3 defensemen there are all really good and have good term for the amount where you can build around them
I agree with Andersson for the Flames, had a really good bounce back year this year. My only knock against him is that I wish he would shoot more, especially on the PowerPlay. I get that he's usually on the ice with the top unit, and there are a lot of talented players out there, but Ras has got a really good shot that he needs to utilize more often (instead of always passing it off).
Getzlaf was one of my favorite players except when he played the Canucks. He was a dominant player. Another guy who could almost do anything and then beat you up. Pancake you in the corner. A bigger slower version of the Little Ball of Hate. He meant a lot to the organization. And tons of fans.
Shannon can you do a vid about the Hawks and the potential trading of DeBrincat? Personally I don't want him to be traded, but I guess from a business perspective and the rebuild needing to happen, flipping him for assets could be good. I just think he could be a good future piece to build around.
Tage Thompson was unreal. Dude isnt a natural Center and is 6'7" yet looked like a savage. And his abnormally low shooting % suggests he has 45-50 goal potential.
Bordeleau has the best name for a Sharks player (would work for many nautical themed teams). Bord de l'eau = side of the water = waterfront. I know this is dad humour and I'm ok with it.
You should make a Safe Jersey To Buy video where you highlight a player (or more) on each team where you can buy their jersey this summer and be reasonably sure that they're not on their way out of town in the next couple years.
@@It-s-me-P So maybe I would watch that video. I like my team (jets), but I don't know nearly as much about other teams, and I would like Shannon's take on team's long-term commitments to players. I expect he would focus on non-star players too, because it's no fun to talk about how buying a Matthews jersey is a safe bet. In Winnipeg there is no 9+mil player at all, so I would focus on Morrissey or Lowry, because everyone already has the Hellebuyck, Sheifele, Wheeler, or Connor Jerseys, and 3/4 of those might be gone in 18 months. Meanwhile it's interesting to contemplate Lowry as a long-term part of the team plans, why that is, and how the community feels about the player. Besides, Shannon has a whole summer of cranking out non-review/preview videos. I stand by this idea.
Video request: could you make a video of a world cup if it was played today? A lineup your choice of every countries team. Or atleast contenders top 6 or top 8?
These lists are always interesting, and another idea you could do is who you think the player currently from each team the rest of the league/fanbases collectively dislike/hated the most from that team
Love Laffy and I think he’s on the cusp of stardom. To me if he can learn to play his 80 ft game on his unnatural side to Gallant’s liking, he’ll get consistent time with Kreider and Zibanejad (who he already has great chemistry with) and then the scoring will match his optical on-ice effort. That being said when you use the word “impressed” the first Ranger that comes to mind and to me the only answer is K’Andre Miller. He’s made such great strides physically and offensively this season without stunting his defensive game (which also improved). DAMN THE RANGERS FUTURE HAS ME EXCITED
robert thomas didn’t have the showing in the playoffs i think we hoped for, but he was insane to watch especially during the second half of the reg season
I've always favored defense. And currently, one of my favorites is Lindgren. And he's well positioned on the Adam Fox line. Like you said before, he's a beast. And his defensive defenseman mindset perfectly balances Fox offensive capabilities. The Rangers we're a better team when he was on the ice. Honorable mention - Copp and how well he messed with Panarin after the trade For the Wild, I would pick Fleury. As well as he did for himself, he made Talbot better than I've seen him since he was a Ranger himself. But without Fleury, that doesn't happen. For St Louis, my pick would be Husso. JT Miller is my choice for Vancouver. I'd tab Andersson for the Flames. As much as everyone should hate him, Evander Kane was amazing for the Oilers. PS. No one impressed me more for Detroit than Seider.
I agree that rookies like Dobson should be brought along slowly. Perhaps that's why the rangers are having problems with Laf and Kakko, neither of whom have lived up to expectations.
I thought you might pick laughton for philly. Hes been one of my favorite under the radar players. Especially this past season. Jones had a decent comeback year, but as a philly fan? Yawn… i mean good for him, but who cares? Laughts Seems like your type of player too, having watched your channel for so long. Hard nosed, competitive, steps into any role and handling his own…
I want to see a breakdown of the Avalanche roster and how many players are having their best career years this season. It's tough to wrap your head around it.
I love Quick but tbh he's always played well, it's just whether the team in front of him gave him any help whatsoever. The Kings player that was a real surprise to me was Trevor Moore.
For the Sabres Tage Thompson I never thought he would almost hit 40 goals I don't think anyone would have put money on that but so very happy he almost did!!!
Feel free to do a video on how Parise and Palmieri are looking old these days. preferably before the season starts, so we don't have to deal with it the whole first half.
Gagner was on the BJ’s team 2016-17 that won 16 games in a row. Put up 108 pts. He was a key player on the PP. And who was the coach????? Torts!!! LGRW!
As a Columbus fan, I'm glad you're not a Columbus fan. You neither cheer for nor cheer against the Jackets. The team simply exists. As a result, I get an unbiased evaluation from someone who's competent and knowledgeable.
Can you please talk more about Jonathan Toews looking old. I would love to see him have a bounce back season from him in the last year of his contract. Even if Chicago trades him, I want Toews to be good again and then hopefully retire. 🙏
I was impressed with the Hockey Guy this season tbh, this consistency through life’s ups and downs never ceases to inspire me.
huge year for THG.
THG is -150 for the Hart Trophy
Could not have put it better myself.
A lot of people were saying THG is too old and doesn't have it anymore, but it looks like he just used that for fuel.

I would note for Boston, very impressed by the tandem of Swayman and Ullmark in goal.
I loved Corey Perry when he was with les canadiens. Hope he can raise lord Stanley’s.
Keller did a great job this year for the Yotes, he REALLY stepped up this year.
Great choice on pitlick as someone who watched every game ur 100% right
Love Laffy and I think he’s on the cusp of stardom.
32 team 32 player 32 minute video, nice!
Lov how the change of colours is just a lighter blue. Another great vid Shannon
25:47 reminded me that Jusso Valimaki exists too and he is in the minors? Can any flames fan explain the reasoning behind that
Sabres were fun to watch late in the season, but I agree Tuch was the guy, who changed everything
Okposo was IMO
I like perron but I feel like tarasenko definitely impressed me more coming off a big injuring and managing to get back to scoring
Lafreniere let out his inner goon in the playoffs. Maybe just immaturity.
robert thomas didn’t have the showing in the playoffs i think we hoped for, but he was insane to watch especially during the second half of the reg season
Loved seeing Fehervary on Carlson's pair this season, hope he keeps getting better next season for the Caps
Love your jersey so much ! First one I ever bought (and i'm a Habs fan)
Honorable mention - Copp and how well he messed with Panarin after the trade
For the Wild, I would pick Fleury.
Hard nosed, competitive, steps into any role and handling his own…
I thought for Colorado you’d say someone like Nichuskin. He was such a powerhouse for a Colorado this year
I'm mega impressed by Nick Paul!
I've always liked perron. We really need to find a way to keep him.
While I can respect his game, his phantom elbow towards Kadri was utterly absurd, and he's lucky he didn't hit him in the head.
Hope we can keep a dirty player
Emotions get the best of us all. Perron isnt a dirty player, He needs to retire a Blue
Wish the elbow would have landed on the chin
As a die-hard CBJ fan, I was predicting you would pick Boqvist. This is probably the first thing I have ever gotten right in my life.
I want to see a breakdown of the Avalanche roster and how many players are having their best career years this season. It's tough to wrap your head around it.
I love Quick but tbh he's always played well, it's just whether the team in front of him gave him any help whatsoever. The Kings player that was a real surprise to me was Trevor Moore.
do you know when VanBase typically will have Canucks jerseys on sale this Summer?
For the Sabres Tage Thompson I never thought he would almost hit 40 goals I don't think anyone would have put money on that but so very happy he almost did!!!
Dadonov Was A Great Choice For Vegas, For The Reasons You Said
Workhorse.
Straight workhorse that Shannon.
Mark Scheifele looks old on defense
I don't see Donato getting cut. He was as solid this season as he could be on the Kraken.
I think for the Jets it should've been Comrie. He was a massive surprise this year.
Feel free to do a video on how Parise and Palmieri are looking old these days. preferably before the season starts, so we don't have to deal with it the whole first half.
Lafreniere is quite good at cheap shots to the head with his elbow. Granted, he's no Trouba yet, but he's learning.
Yeah, the rest of the league is filled with choir boys. Stop crying.
Video plays well on 1.25x speed if you're inna hurry
THG, can you do a surprise rookie from each team ? Thank you for all your hard research !
Gagner was on the BJ’s team 2016-17 that won 16 games in a row. Put up 108 pts. He was a key player on the PP. And who was the coach????? Torts!!! LGRW!
Not sure if I agree with the Boquvist pick. I was more impressed with Danforth this year.
I use to watch Jarvis play in Portland. It’s great seeing his success in the show.
Mikheyev is UFA but yes they probably can’t afford to resign him.
Eklund was looking great for the Sharks and then his country after the season!
Trivia answer for the future: Ryan Donato scored the first goal in Kraken history
And wearing my favorite Sens jersey! They gotta bring back the gold strips
Actually, Fehervary is capable of very good offense based on what I saw from him on international and junior level.
