@@michaelkeller5927 To an extent. He was shaky and let in some easy ones in G2-3 but was absolutely lights out in G1 with the shutout vs Wild. Binnington then came in red hot to win 3 straight vs Wild and continued killing it til his injury. Husso came in cold in G3 and had to face a red hot Avs team while tending behind a depleted/injured D-line. He wasn't the same wall he'd been through the regular season, but I don't put that all on him given playing the Avs without Krug, Bortz, and a feeble Parayko in front of him
LA is gonna be interesting in the sense that Quick is gonna be in the final year of his contract. This is gonna be a make or break season with Peterson. He had a rather disappointing season & it makes me nervous to see if he has what it takes to be their number one guy in case Quick retires.
I think Quick sticks around for ~3-4 more years. He'll be declining with age, but he's still in peak, "Is Jonathan Quick elite?" form. I think there's enough time to trade Soupy to somewhere that he can be the #1 guy (NJ or SEA could be good fits), get some good returns and train up another replacement for Quick.
Peterson reminds me of Bernier. Anointed to be the goalie of the future but can't steal games. I'm more interested what Villalta can do once he's done with the Reign.
Gibby to Buffalo! I kept thinking about that move during the last few months of the regular season for some reason. Exciting market; on the upswing. It'd be fun and hopefully not so much a lateral move for the talented (and fairly hot-headed) goaltender. Nicer weather there, too, I imagine. O.o
I feel like the Wild are just trying to buy time until Wallstedt gets a year in the AHL and then bring him up once Talbot's contract is up. With our cap issues it's about staying competitive while our young guys come up in the next year or two.
Thanks guerin. Kahkonen when away from talbot (between his time in san jose and his time on the nhl when talbot was out with injury) he had a 1.83 g.a.a. and a save percentage of .943.. in 34 games. When talbot was with him his save percentage was under .900 and his g.a.a. was above 3.00... fleury's stats on Minnesota were worse than when he was in chicago. Talbot I think is a cancer for the goaltenders. I would rather of kept kahkonen and traded talbot. Especially since kahkonen is cheaper thank talbot. Goaltending wasn't a major issue. It was our centers that were the issue. Not one center can win a faceoff. Gaudreau is our best center. That's fucking sad. And now guerin wants to get rid of fiala when dumba was making mistakes and so was evason. He blames fiala for not scoring but boldy and gaudreau both didn't produce for shit and evason refused to adjust at all. All series he was out coached again and we are blaming fiala for everything
Oh oops, I commented about Wally before seeing this comment lol. I do think Wally should be signed right now on the entry level deal that might expire at the end of the dead-cap era.
As crappy as Dreidgers injury is, it opens up a spot for Daccord to get solid playing time. The big dilemma before was which tender was going to be moved.
The Islanders are in a great position for goaltending. Sorkin is a star and Varlamov is still starter quality. Their best option is probably to move Varly's 5M cap hit for a pick or two, and then bring in a cheap FA that Mitch Korn can work his magic with
If Rangers move away from Georgiev, I do think they have a backup in Kinkaid that would be serviceable. The only thing would be that management does not over work Igor or he would be burn out very quickly.
@@belpit66 kinkaid was called up a couple times this season when Rangers needed him. They have a couple prospect down in Hartford with Huska and Wall they can try to develop and call up to be Igor’s backup. I have a feeling this would be like Hank all over again with veteran or young goalies coming in and out to be the back up. (Hank had Veteran backup such as Biron and Raanta but also had young backup such as Talbot and Johnson.)
Smith and Skinner is a dangerous game. Smith tends to be out for a long time. Is Skinner going to be ready to start, like, 20 games almost in a row at some point? Who's gonna be his backup for this stretch, and does he start a single game?
Interestingly, I don't really see a huge market for UFA starters with Cup hopes. Avs - sure, but they are almost the only ones, and it somewhat looks like a buyer's market for them. Edmonton and Toronto would love to have someone, but they are pretty limited with cap. And both have an old injury-prone goalie under a relatively expensive contract. Washington? Well, maybe...
No chance Husso comes back, probably goes to Edmonton. Real impressive how much he grew in really a year. This time last year we were all terrified of Husso in net, now he’s a very solid starter. Wish him luck wherever he goes
@@midimusicforever They have 7 mill, Husso wil get anywhere from 3-4.5 mill. If Barrie and kass get moved it would clear up even more cap space. And if smith and Keith retired it would clear up more as well.
@@somerandomidiot1333 Kane will cost the 7 mil, or at least a good chunk of it. I doubt Keith retires. If Smith doesn't, Husso might be a moot point anyway. If he does, they will still need more cap, and there are other slots to fill in too. Moving both Kassian and Barrie will cost a bunch of picks, but I think they will try to do that too. Esp Kassian. Question is, can they free up the cap before another team signs Husso? Or dare risk signing him before they have?
@@midimusicforeverThey can trade them to teams that need cap help or need more offence on the defence and need more grit etc. Arizona, Seattle, Buffalo, Anaheim, San Jose, LA. Plus I don’t really care if Kane signs or not. He could sign for really cheap or could sign for a lot of money.
@@somerandomidiot1333 Yeah, they can dump them on teams like the Yotes, but the Yotes will not take them for free. It will cost picks for the Oilers to cap dump. Kane will not be cheap. He will ask for a lot. He either stays for big money, or leaves. If he stays, fitting Husso under the cap can be tricky.
In a vacuum, I think you're right: you sign Husso and him and Binnington fight for the starting spot. Unfortunately, Husso isn't the only UFA the Blues have to deal with and they don't have a ton of cap space to work with. Perron needs a contract (would be ridiculous to let him walk) and they need a shut down, stay at home Defenseman. Whether that means signing Leddy or going out and getting someone else is up to Doug Armstrong, but there's not much wiggle room for all 3, plus the RFA's we have in Mikkola and Perunovich. Unless the Blues move a larger contract or make the mistake of letting Perron walk/not getting a stay at home D, Husso will be hitting the free agent market and getting his payday somewhere else.
Well said, I’d add to this that Lindgren and Hofer have both played extremely well in the AHL and appear to both be capable of filling the backup role next season. Husso is an unfortunate but acceptable cap casually when compared to Perron or whichever defenseman they end up signing.
@@drapples9674 Hofer has stepped up to a new level during Springfields playoff run this year. We may see Lindgren up and Hofer may stay in the AHL another year but I wouldn’t be afraid to start the season with either of them.
Sabres fan here. After a season where we clawed back into the realm of respectability, goaltending is definitely our biggest roadblock. Craig Anderson was great this year, gave the team some stability and stopped the bleeding on some losing streaks that could've been much worse early on. Our best bet I think is another year with Anderson. Who's gonna be our backup? Definitely not Dell he was terrible, Subban is hard to tell cuz he had very little games before the injury. Tokarski, as much as he won a couple huge games where Buffalo was the massive underdog, he was streaky and inconsistent. He had just as many 5 goal against nights as he had 1 goal against nights. Do they go with him due to the defensemen being pretty stable next year and able to build around eachother? My guess is they will but it's likely we do something else like a trade for another backup hopefully a younger guy like Casey DeSmith
I love how Vasileskiy is still arguably* the best goaltender over the past 5 years. He's been 1st or tied for 1st in wins the past five seasons, back to back Stanley Cups, Vezina trophy winner, Conn Smithe trophy winner, 4 time all star, 2 time first-team all star Yo THG: WHAT MORE DOES THIS GUY HAVE TO DO FOR YOU TO THINK HE'S NOT BETTER THAN SOMEONE ELSE IN THE LEAGUE? Edit: and he'd likely be a two time Vezina winner if the league hadn't decided to give Fleury a lifetime achievement award.
To be fair, THG has said many times that he thinks that Vasi is the best goalie in the league. Not to put words in his mouth but he may be trying to not seem bias and remain objective.
“Arguably the best goalie in the league” does not mean THG doesn’t think he is the best. It means he is acknowledging other goalies could have a case made for them. THG is prob one of the most objective and unbiased commentators on NHL happenings on all of RUclips. A hard opinion like that will be rare to come by. Take a moment to enjoy the analysis.
You mentioned Lindgren in St. Louis...I don't see any reason in the world why this guy hasn't earned a chance to play regularly. He was good in Montreal on some brutal teams and all he did this year with St. Louis was break the team record for consecutive wins debuting with the Blues. With a good team in front of him, this guy can do the job. At the very least as a back up to Husso.
Buffalo is a goalie away from being a fringe playoff team.. they have to be aggressive in signing or trading one of their first round picks for an upgrade
I expect Washington will try to keep Vanecek as a cheap backup but I don't think it will work. I think he's going to ask for too much cash and his trade value is higher. Samsonov is absolutely going to be traded. GMBM has said his top priority is a veteran starting goalie. Both Laviolette and Mac have talked about wanting size in their starter which is why they went with Samsonov. Expect Mac to go after a guy like Lehner who's big and signed through the Ovechkin era at an affordable contract.
Caps GM BMac already stated they will make it a priority to bring in a vet goalie. My guess they trade Vanecek and keep Samsonov. Personally I think they will be in the Gibson trade sweepstakes(yes, I strongly think Gibson will be traded during the upcoming Draft). The Caps already have enough salary cap room to fit Gibson's $6.4 million cap hit. Vanecek can be part of the deal for a goalie going back to the Ducks. As an RFA, I think Vanecek's will get $1.5 - 2 million per season on his next contract, whether with the Caps or another team. Samsonov next contract will be somewhere between $2 - 3 million per season. Considering that the Caps could end up having Backstrom, Wilson and Hagelin all on LTIR(roughly that could be $17.1 million on LTIR), the team will need a vet goalie to help keep the team competitive while those 3 players are out.
Blackwood before the injury was already injured, he didn't play a single healthy game the whole season, devils should look for a 1b for the next couple years until Nico Daws is ready.
Yeah Blackwood's heel was on the mend with Bernier starting the season. Then Bernier gets hurt, Blackwood is rushed back into net and reinjures the heel. The Devils then went through the carousel of goalies for the rest of the year with Nico Daws being the standout. He wasn't even supposed to play in the AHL this season, let alone start an NHL game. Hoping he can transition into the Devils starting goalie down the road.
The question for Gibson is who is willing to not only pay that salary, but what’s the trade asking price going to be? They aren’t going to let him go for nothing.
With the Nedeljkovic thing in Detroit, that team wasn’t doing him any favors. I feel like he’s better than what he put on, but also, Detroit loves to give up textbook prime scoring opportunities too. He came from Carolina, a decent team, to Detroit, an UN decent team at this point. I’m interested to see what happens next year. Greiss, I think, has gotta go, and I can’t imagine them bringing up Pickard to back unless they’re really not happy about cap hit and who’s available. I think Detroit is shopping.
The only problem I have with Husso leaving is we won't get ZIT for him, which is a shame. But going forward I'm okay with Binner/Sideburns duo for a year with occasional call up for Hofer who I see to be great duo with Binner for years to come. Hopefully.
For STL, I think most of us assume, particularly after the playoffs, that Husso will be off to greener pastures. It wouldn’t make sense to sign him to a long term deal unless you trade Binner, which you shouldn’t. Hofer has made great strides, so he’s the de facto goalie of the future, and I think he and Chuckie will battle for the backup spot in training camp. Then the team will probably sign a journeyman goalie to either push them or mentor Hofer/Ellis in the minors.
blackhawks will have to wait still on Dre Comesso, but Nashvile has to tryout their hottest prospect with Yaroslav Askarov maybe he backs up Saros or trys the AHL next season
I would like Comesso in the minors for this upcoming year or 2 years. I don't want to bring him up too early and he gets really hurt or something and turns to be a bust.
@@aeroluckyagent3833 Chances are that Comesso will be backup to Soderblom in Rockford this year, and will get to start if/when Soderblom gets called up for a few games
Rangers Fan I’m happy with Igor. VGK Yes I’m still not over the Fleury debacle. I understand the move and he is older but Lenher is just a big goalie not that athletic in my opinion. VGK is definitely week in net if Lenher is starting. He’s not as bad as I’m giving him credit but we need to move on just my opinion don’t hate me.
@@GamerEddy1 His best year, full stop, was under Trotz. Hasn't really been able to replicate that magic and it's amazing that more folks don't see that. He's really good, but under a Trotz-system, he was stellar.
Lehner isn't bad, he played most of this season with a torn labrum which fucks up your mechanics. By the end of the season he needed surgeries on 2 different injuries and there was a 3rd injury that didn't require surgery.
The problem in Washington is that the Caps defense is incapable of playing in well front of the designated "starter". i think both goalies are better than their numbers.
As a pens fan Fleury would be stupid to come back sullivan wont start him and hes still got at least a year left in him as a starter 32 wins away from second all time you know hes thinking about it
i feel like Reimer’s “bad stretch” wasn’t his fault. Boughner started him 17 games in a row all cause he didn’t want to start Sawchenko (which we were all begging him to)
The tandem should be Lehner/Thompson for VGK. Lehner didn’t have a great year but honestly, it wasn’t a good year for the entire team in general. Hopefully a full off-season of rest, a surgery, and a new HC will revitalize him a bit. A Thompson/Brossoit tandem is way too risky when they’re trying to win now. Let Lehner be the starter and if Thompson proves he can keep up his amazing level of play, maybe consider a 1A/1B situation.
If the leafs cant get a deal done with Campbell and he leaves in free agency, could you see a big move with Anaheim for Gibson, and send them a package of Mrazek, Kerfoot, Robertson and a couple picks for Gibson, and have Kallgren as the backup?
I would be really surprised if Toronto (or any team for that matter) ended up taking Säteri. He didn't do good in Arizona and he got totally sidelined by Olkinuora(SwissNL) from his position as Finlands starting goalie in the WC. I think Salad is heading back to the AHL if he does continue playing in North America.
As an Oilers fan... many of us are annoyed at how little play time Skinner has received especially because of all the times Smith or Kosk were injured over the last two seasons. Smith and Skinner would be a great way to get Skinner into starter form. If they bring in another goalie... Smith has to go the other way as Skinner can't be waived.
Colorado got Darcy Kuemper for a 1st and a player. DK's cap hit is around 1.5M. He had success (with Anti Raanta) in Ari-friggin-zona. Meanwhile the Pens are seemingly married to Jarry and DeSmith.
@@nottherocketman It’s definitely possible. Lindgren was unbelievable in his stint with the Blues and had a great season in Springfield. I’m leaning towards the team choosing Hofer though based on him being younger and the incredible stats he’s been putting up during the T Birds playoff run.
Hopefully Sorokin is watching his buddy at MSG. It's time he steps up and plays more. Varlamov gives up one soft goal every other game. If he'd waive his no trade the Isles would love the cap space
Only thing I worry about is they are really close. Does Sorokin losing his buddy affect his play? Maybe just let it ride and try to dump Bailey's $5 million first.
Husso's gone. No way Army pays him what he'd make as a UFA. After being the talk of the league all year, he'd be a fool not to test the market. Binner's our guy and Hofer or Lindgren will make excellent backups. Binner needs to show some consistency next season, though; his NTC ends in 24 and becomes a modified no-trade, and I think the Blues will move on from a moody, inconsistent player.
I think the intention is more likely to keep Binner as the starter for a couple more years and slowly ease Hofer into the role of tandem and then starter. He’s been good in the AHL playoffs, but he’s still young enough that they’ll probably want to try to give him another at least partial season in the A. As for Binner, I think he just needs to stay away from SM in season. Early last season before the clickbait beat reporter, most of the goals he let in, you could blame his teammates just as much for lazy clearing attempts, brain fart passes, and odd man breaks. That was until the “goalie controversy” stories and then he started having a couple straight up bad games. Eventually, both goalies adapted to all the 2-on-1s that came from having 2 undersized D that liked to go in on plays and whose stubby legs weren’t able to skate back fast enough to catch the other team. And really, that’s mostly Perunovitch that put himself in that position. Never good when your one on a 2 on 1 is DP or Tarasenko, though each did a decent job for a fwd.
I think Murray played very well for Ottawa the rest of the season. To put him on the waivers and AHL again would be quite an insult - this is not how you treat you star players.
@@charleybarley7148 Yes he is, despite not very good first part of the season. He is still relatively young goalie who was in net for most games for back to back Stanley Cup champion averaging less than 2 goals a game. After a bad stretch Murray was sent to minors.

@@michaelkeller5927 it was his first run. Lmao. Good chance he would have sucked, and he did. I expect him to get better over time.
LA is gonna be interesting in the sense that Quick is gonna be in the final year of his contract. This is gonna be a make or break season with Peterson. He had a rather disappointing season & it makes me nervous to see if he has what it takes to be their number one guy in case Quick retires.
regardless of how petersen plays i could easily see blake extend quick 2 more years.
Was anticipating this video for some time. Always an interesting subject.
He would fit perfectly
Love these types of videos that look at the entire league, ty!
STL should let Husso walk and make Chucky the backup. I'd rather them spend money on other pieces of the franchise instead of 10m worth of goalies
Lindgren is a UFA as well, why not have Hofer backup?
As a Wings fan I can't wait for the potential Wallstedt vs Cossa battles. Cheers to you Minni should be a fun stretch!

As an AZ fan, I hope we another awful year because Bedard in AZ would be amazing.
The Islanders are in a great position for goaltending. Sorkin is a star and Varlamov is still starter quality. Their best option is probably to move Varly's 5M cap hit for a pick or two, and then bring in a cheap FA that Mitch Korn can work his magic with
As a dallas fan would be nice if oettinger becomes an elite NHL goalie. Dallas hasn't developed a goalie since Turco.
If Rangers move away from Georgiev, I do think they have a backup in Kinkaid that would be serviceable. The only thing would be that management does not over work Igor or he would be burn out very quickly.
No way Kinkaid will be the backup. Georgiev will go and they'll acquire someone.
@@belpit66 kinkaid was called up a couple times this season when Rangers needed him.

Oilers have injury prone, expensive goalie? Who exactly would that be? They have Smith 2.2m and Skinner under 1m. Do you hockey bro?
@@michaelkeller5927 Injury prone is right, expensive not so much.
No chance Husso comes back, probably goes to Edmonton.
Real impressive how much he grew in really a year. This time last year we were all terrified of Husso in net, now he’s a very solid starter. Wish him luck wherever he goes
Does Edmonton have the cap? There might be other higher bidders.
@@midimusicforever They have 7 mill, Husso wil get anywhere from 3-4.5 mill. If Barrie and kass get moved it would clear up even more cap space. And if smith and Keith retired it would clear up more as well.
@@somerandomidiot1333
Kane will cost the 7 mil, or at least a good chunk of it.
@@somerandomidiot1333
Yeah, they can dump them on teams like the Yotes, but the Yotes will not take them for free.
On top of that Lindgren looks like he could be a good backup. So if Binnington can keep it together there isn't great need.
damn. very brief for buffalo, although i dont blame you. thank you for the vids THG
He's been 1st or tied for 1st in wins the past five seasons, back to back Stanley Cups, Vezina trophy winner, Conn Smithe trophy winner, 4 time all star, 2 time first-team all star
Yo THG: WHAT MORE DOES THIS GUY HAVE TO DO FOR YOU TO THINK HE'S NOT BETTER THAN SOMEONE ELSE IN THE LEAGUE?
Edit: and he'd likely be a two time Vezina winner if the league hadn't decided to give Fleury a lifetime achievement award.
To be fair, THG has said many times that he thinks that Vasi is the best goalie in the league. Not to put words in his mouth but he may be trying to not seem bias and remain objective.
“Arguably the best goalie in the league” does not mean THG doesn’t think he is the best. It means he is acknowledging other goalies could have a case made for them.
THG is prob one of the most objective and unbiased commentators on NHL happenings on all of RUclips.

I totally feel flower is going back to Pittsburgh -- great way to end out his career

Excellent video yet again. Thanks.

I love these longer videos
someone has to pick up husso give him a chance to be the guy.
What would an offer-sheeting team need to give up pick-wise to poach Oettinger?
Is that a sea foam green Dallas Stars jersey?
Gibson is one of the most underrated goalies in the league, sucks he is in Anahiem.
Hopefully he goes to Edmonton 🙏
Spencer Martin is awesome. He's the goalie the fans defend as he ships 5 goals in 8 shots.

Dam! That is one hell of collection of hockey jerseys!
Yeah Askarov should get a look this year. Commesso likely still needs 2 years of seasoning. He'll hopefully be a fulltime backup by 2024/25
I would like Comesso in the minors for this upcoming year or 2 years. I don't want to bring him up too early and he gets really hurt or something and turns to be a bust.

Wonder if Jersey will make a push for a goalie,
They will. Fitzgerald is not dumb. He’s gonna be quiet and go after big deals this off-season. I can see them going after Campbell.
Are these predictions anything like your prediction Bruce Cassidy was safe?
Vegas callers five teams, and goes “ so who wants to take our stater” anyone, going once , twice, okay bye then”
Lol. I'm sure Vegas will move Lehner, a decent goalie that they can't afford to pay will be traded...
Wild have always had a weakness in goal. We've never had that "superstar" that can get us over the mountain.
Korenar is already signed in europe for the next few years
The tandem should be Lehner/Thompson for VGK.
Question: When did the Oilers have a goaltender for the last time?
I have a hunch that Toronto is going to push for Gibson this upcoming season.
I think Hofer gets the backup spot in St. Louis next year.
I agree. He’s played very well in Springfield so I’d expect he gets his chance while the Blues dedicate their cap space elsewhere.
Probably not yet, I would think Lindgren first, then Hofer.
Lindgren is elite

Either Husso or Ullmark as starters with Hill as a back-up and Skinner as the third option?
Hope flower comes back to Pittsburgh this year. I feel like this is the year
Don’t see Sabres Gm Kevin Adams spending much on a goaltender for a team rebuilding/gathering draft picks.
Stolarz' brother Todd plays on a men's league at my rink... dude is lights out but self admittedly much more lazy than his brother Anthony 😂
Lehner in Edmonton?
