Howdy, GoalHorn! Definitely agree on the Kings colors. The purple & black look good. All black is just boring and for some odd reason the Pacific Division tends to have a lot of black or very dark jerseys. I also like the crown. I’m old enough to have watched the original Kings with their “Imperial Margarine” crown. While I like that one, I think I prefer the newer crown. Also, I read where the original crown is more like a queen’s crown, while the newer one is more like a king’s crown!

Im not old enough to have gotten to really appreciate some of these teams iconic classic logos so I get why people have the bias for the vintage looks but I definitely prefer the current look cuz the colors are more modernized but allow for a more bright and standout look, plus the shade of green being called Victory green is cool. The logo itself is a little more meaningful to me too since it actually a Dallas logo and not the same thing they had in MN but edited to just have ‘Dallas’ on top. Having the base of the logo be the lone star, with the letter D cuz Dallas is also known as the Big D. Sure if you just think about it plainly, it’s just a D with a star behind it so it sounds stupidly too simple but the 3D effect with the shading gives off the impression to me of a metal like steel or iron and the to me gives the logo a sense of strength/toughness/durability

A lifelong interest in logos (and a multi-decade career in graphic design) brings me to these thoughts:
    - Best logo nickname: Buffaslug. And that's the only thing it wins.
    - When I look at the Avs logo, I see a vulture in a hoodie playing checkers (or maybe air hockey). Just me? OK.
    - The original Panthers logo seems more like a high school mascot. Too much like clip art. But the Quenneville Cat is not an instant winner either.
    - The Kings have had too many looks. I agree that the spiky crown is the best one. Put that on a purple jersey, then stick with it for the next 50 years.
    - Preds: I know it's based on a prehistoric fossil, but dang that overbite looks impractical. No wonder it went extinct!
    - Sens: I've never understood having the profile of the guy with the helmet and then repeating the "helmet" on the circle around the profile. (See also Washington Redskins.)
    - I think the Blues did even better than the Flyers at creating a look that fit in with the Original Six. Yeah, the Seals, not so much (though I did like their quirky look as a kid).
    - The most amateurish logo in league history was the original Tampa Bay logo. Was it done by an intern in 10 minutes using an early desktop publishing program?
    - Caps: Make your primary logo the "weagle" and leave it at that. It's a winner.
    - The current Jets logo is way too static for the name. Give it some energy! Better yet, go back to Shannon's favorite.

I think Florida's current logo looks more like a Boy Scout badge than a military insignia. They also have the "Florida" Boy Scout patch on the shoulders. You can't miss the resemblance. I wonder if their owner was in the Boy Scouts.

I love the jersey that you are wearing in this video. I have the same Kansas City Scouts jersey in both blue and white. Darryl Sittler was doing an autograph session at our local mall, so I wore my Kansas City Scouts jersey that day. I went to get his autograph and I asked him do you remember this jersey ? He said “Of course I do, it’s the Kansas City Chiefs.” I didn’t have the heart to correct the legend Darryl Sittler. Lol

I prefer the current Toronto logo, but still it drives me crazy, because the maple trees growing in my part of the world don't have the "ragged" edges that one shows. Here, we're dominated by sugar and red maples, which tend to look more like the logo you weren't impressed with. However, I did look in my North American tree guide book, and saw a couple different species that more closely resemble the current logo, so that makes me feel better.

The cannon is a great looking logo in the same way the original sabres logo looks great and the original islanders logo looks great. The 90s/00s stuff was/is so concerned with trying to be modern, it lost the plot on so many levels. Not a Blackhawks fan by any stretch at all, but I do think it’s her best looking jersey ever made in any sport, some people will say it’s dated, I will say it’s timeless, people say the same thing about coca-cola’s logo, when something looks classy-as-shit, it stands the test of time

I would classify the Oilers primary logo history similar to the Flames - in the 90s they added a red circle (similar to the Flames black outline) which has since gone away. I guess you could have included the old WHA logo where the orange and blue are reversed, but this look is better.

The good thing about the black border Flames logo is it forces good contrast if it's put on something white or yellow. It's also easier to see the yellow in general. Otherwise, it's not really different enough to carry a major opinion.
The fisherman is a bad overall branding logo compared to their normal one, but it's a great logo for a jersey or hat. I'd definitely make a frequently used alternate out of it.

The occasional red in the Blues’ logos/unis completes the color palette of the St Louis flag (which is mostly red with yellow and blue). Or at least that’s why I assume it crops up when it does. Only a super nerd like me would likely pick up on that though, so “why are the blues red” is a very fair question otherwise.

    • @OldRustySteele
      @OldRustySteele Год назад

Hi deFault! Fellow nerd here. While you’re correct about the STL flag colors, the red on the Blues uniforms just doesn’t go. I particularly hated the Keenan-Gretzky era one with the big diagonal triangle of red at the bottom of the sweater. It looked like a cheesy imitation of the Anaheim Ducks sweater bottom. It just didn’t work for me.
BTW, I have a photo of Ben Bishop and Patrick
Maroon in the handshake line after Game 7 of their series in 2019. In the background, one of the Blues cheerleaders is skating by with the St. Louis flag. With Bishop and Maroon both being St. Louisans, it’s a great picture, and I had it blown up and framed in my office.

Of all the primary logos, the Devils, Flyers and Oilers, in that order, may be the best as works of graphic design.
For the Leafs, I prefer the 1980s logo. It's clean, clear, and modern.
For the Whalers, the white/green logo is stronger than the grey/blue/green logo.
For the Jets, I like the original logo. It's nice how it's all contained inside the circle.
For the Wild, I never understood that it was an animal head until recently. It could be simplified.

I’m obviously biased because I was born the year the yotes came to town, but the original kachina yote might be my favorite logo in all of sports. It’s so excessive and late 90’s. So happy we went back to it, even though I do love the yawning yote and the 2012 playoff series where we got the furthest we’ve been (in the NHL). I would love to have the wild go back to the north stars scheme since they somewhat clash with the yotes currently even though our shade of red is deeper.
