- Hey all. I haven't covered my love or hatred for NHL teams in quite some time, so here's a video looking at every team who have played in my time watching the NHL.

As a Wild fan, there were times I hated us too.
Especially these last 2 years
The first in my life time I cheered for a team other than my favorite squad was the 03 playoffs when they made the conference finals just because they beat the Avs to get there
@@tegridy27I have loved watching this team the last two years. They are always in the games no matter what basically.
@@icecoldpolitics8890 That’s also true. I’m speaking more about blowing 2-1 series leads back to back years.
Same here, a few months ago when my team played them in the 1st round and the douchy gate keeper fans would say, “do you guys even play hockey in Texas, stick to football, Norm Green blah blah blah” lol
As a Nordiques fan, I still loved that the Avs won the cup in 96 as most of us stayed Avs fans. Plus a bunch of players came down when Quebec got their day with the cup. Yes, the city got a day with the cup.
I’m an Oilers fan that always had a soft spot for the Nordiques, and that 1996 Avalanche win pissed me off royally.
Glad to hear you be honest about hating Detroit because they won so much. I can imagine it gets annoying if you're not a Wings fan. People have certainly enjoyed kicking them while they're down over the past decade or so, which is understandable, if frustrating. I hope everyone hates them for winning again very soon.
We were the Evil Empire for two decades. Those were good times.
Better yet, we were able to get the "Yankees fans experience" without having to sit through 162 tedious games a season. Win-win.
I hope they don’t win for another decade of only because your fans are annoying at Wild games!
-signed Wild fan
I think your 'Wings are trending up, but it seems a little slow.
I hated the Wings for aeons. The fans, at least, were these insufferable glory chasers. After being to a few Wings games, the fans are cool, and the hardcores got a bad rap.
I wouldn’t say I ever “hated” the Red Wings strictly speaking. I got awful tired having them win so often, but I was more of the “it could be a worse team instead” mindframe.
I did really enjoy when my beloved Oilers knocked them off unexpectedly in 2006, even though I didn’t expect that result.
I did root for Detroit when they played Pittsburgh; as a bit of a “last hurrah”.
I gave a thumbs up just for the Buddy Christ jersey.
Love the soda throwback!
This is an interesting thought experiment. As an Avalanche fan I have only really hated two teams, both of which I don't hate anymore. Detroit for obvious reasons and Vancouver just for one player and incident. Now I find usually it's specific players I like or hate more than teams.
An Avalanche of emotions here . The Nordiques were/are my favorite .
80's playoff hockey , Nordiques vs. Whomever ... CLASSIC !
I’m from Vancouver and I was furious when the Nords left. I was even more upset when the Avs won that first year. Between that and the mismanagement of the Canucks, I stopped watching the Canucks entirely between 1996 and 2001. When they changed their jersey to the corporate porpoise, I was done. Trevor Linden brought me back. Quebec should have another team. Saskatchewan should have a team. But there are too many teams in markets that are unsustainable.
Nords forever.
@@christhornycroft3686I agree with Quebec (if they have a group that can afford to do so), but Saskatchewan? It could be cool, but hardly anyone lives there. Winnipeg can hardly scrape by and that's only because they have an owner with passion for the sport and money to burn, Saskatchewan isn't realistic at all.
I live in Saskatchewan and have my whole life. No way we can land a team if Quebec can’t.
Lifelong Oilers fan but always had a soft spot for the Nordiques. They (and later also the Senators) were my “Eastern teams”.
The more you become a fan of hockey in general and watch out of town games you learn to like players on every team and just depending on night and circumstances determines who you root for.
Great content...I appreciate the genuineness in your video. I do like how you normailze the ebb and flow of fandom, too.
Love this channel - I am a Flyers fan. When your channel was in the early days (and I was younger), I felt like you were always anti-Flyers, which pushed me away from your videos. Since then, I have grown into an adult, and your videos have continually improved. So happy this channel exists, keep it up Shannon :)
As a wings fan 15:50 made me bust out laughing. Yeah, for a long time the Wings were the Yankees of hockey. Hated beyond belief and bought the Stanley Cup 3 times (kinda the forth one too). Lately it's been cautious optimism, hopefully some of our kids become star players someday.
The years '93-'13 were an incredible time to be a Wings fan. Plenty of heartbreak along the way but damn near every year they had an exciting team that looked like it could compete for the Cup.
The Dan Cloutier goal will ALWAYS make me die laughing
"made me bust"
The ‘97 and ‘98 teams were built my Jimmy D and Ken Holland. The ‘02 Wings were definitely mercenaries, though.
When the Caps finally escaped the Patrick Division in hockey playoffs, the second time around since the late 1980s, Dale Hunter and crew got swept by you guys in the Stanley Cup Finals. (To make up for it, we got our own Russian guy named OVI and got Stanley Cup finally..GO CAPS... Even if we never do that again with him).
Those Red Wings were absolute all-time Legends and always will be
Also your point about getting jerseys is so poignant. From Pittsburgh, black and yellow is my blood. But when I started playing EA and 2K, and collecting cards, I fell in love with LA and SJ before I knew they were rivals in the early 2000s.
Then moving to Vegas in their first year I had to follow them too. Four teams, three are heated rivals. Makes it a lot of fun wearing Sharks/Kings jerseys to T Mobile lol. Hockey is just the best!
I used to draw the US Steel logo as a kid lol. Wish it meant something again it would have been a cool design for the Penguin's eye or something
As a sens fan my entire life i been so passionate about the team and extremely resentful towards management
Senators have been my “quiet 2nd favourite” ever since they came in the league. I feel for ya.
Whalers and Canes fan here, completely agree with preferring the blue jerseys over the green.
green all the way. The classic look never gets old
I liked both jerseys. I despise the Hurricanes though for two reasons: that’s where the Whalers went, and the Hurricanes beat the Oilers in 2006.
As an avs fan who hates the stars, I love your content and watch it everyday. Thanks for your hard work.
Ouch!
I’m an Oilers fan who was a teenager during the late 90s playoffs series against the Stars. I still hate that team damn near as much as I hate the Flames.
Love you Shannon never stop making vids
Loved you comment on Dan Cloutier vs the Red Wings 😂. Yup, I lost my mind over that goal too!
Me too, just in the opposite manner. The Canucks looked like they might have them on the ropes before that goal.
I share the same sentiments about Seattle. They're the team that Vegas was *supposed* to be. Start as underdogs, start off with some losing (maybe the odd round win here and there) and build towards a Cup contender over 5-6 years. Though like Vegas, Seattle has some loveable players out of the gate, like McCann, Tanev, etc. I have a soft spot towards this team, and hope they do well! Great video THG.
You have some really nice checkmarks in there. I love the aesthetic of a truly great checkmark, that very first one on the Kings is a beaut.
lol when you said 5 by 5 i thought to myself "ha, just like faith used to say" and then you mentioned that. love a good buffy reference. what is this, a crossover episode?? i've watched your videos on and off for years but you're quickly becoming one of my favourite people to watch in hockey
You can hate on my Red Wings all day (I do same with Avs, for obvious reasons) but I (almost always) love my daily THG post. Thanks again for another entertaining post.
that sodacan brings back memories
I'd like a video of teams that were so dominant they created rule changes. The Habs from the 50's or Oilers from the 80's.., etc.
I couldn't really hate the Colorado Avalanche when they won their first Stanley Cup, because Joe Sakic had played junior hockey for my hometown Swift Current Broncos.
Ah, a fellow Saskie! Swift Current Broncos are my favourite WHL team!
Nice running into you.
Dang. For a team you aren't a huge fan of, your coverage of Flyers hockey is really good. That's really a great quality that this channel has. 360° Really good stuff.
OMG I love Dogma! Did a paper on the film for my undergrad in The Bible As Lit. class!!!
Saw my first professional hockey game at 11 years old in 1965, the St. Louis Braves of the CHL. They were a Blackhawks farm club. Phil Espo played for the Braves as a young kid. Didn’t know much about hockey, but the red Indian head sweaters (same as the Blackhawks) were really cool. So even as a St. Louisan, I’ve always had a semi-allegiance to the Hawks. Then 2 years later, the big NHL expansion from 6 to 12 teams, and the Blues were the hottest ticket in town - even more than the baseball Cardinals. Became a passionate Blues fan. Later moved to Ohio, where nobody followed hockey, and the only hockey I could get was scratchy radio broadcasts from Chicago and occasional cable network NHL games, often with the Hawks. So I rekindled my fandom for the Hawks. Then job change put me into Chicago and I got part share season tix to Chicago Stadium. So I’m one of those rare birds who root for both the Blues and the Hawks. How about when they play each other? I tend to favor the Blues of course, since they were the first team I really followed passionately. But in years where the Blues stink and the Hawks have playoff aspirations, I’ll switch and root for Chicago.
“House Divided!” 😝
Coming to say the pens are definitely in the top 3 most hated. Love the content THG lol 😅😁
That was a hatred I didn't think I would get over. Crosby getting older helps.
@@bartsanders1553 it's how I feel about Toews/Kane and Ovi. Now I've come to respect them as players (and not cringe as hard at Chi or Wsh lol)
I had season tickets to The Atlanta Flames and was crushed when the team moved to Calgary. Followed the Flames for a few years when some of the guys went with the team--WIlli Plett Ken Houston, Pat Riggin, Marsh, Reinhart, Kent Nilsson, Guy Chouinard. The luster disappeared after those first few yrs in Calgary but if I dont have rooting interest, I always root for Calgary. Those uni's are legendary and was glad to see the team go back to the original. I'm a San Jose native so my team has been the Sharks since inception. Love your videos!
Nordiques Fan since 1981, still and always an Avs Fan💪🏻
Love to see the pop can being opened again!
Love the buddy Christ sweater!!!!!
THE CAN! Throwback! Love it
Shannon made Hockey year around. Can't wait for September.
The soda can opener is a keeper.....loved it.
First started watching hockey during the 1967 expansion when CBS got the broadcast rights here in the States. Been a Montreal fan ever since. Some titanic playoff series with Boston over the years.
That has to be the BEST 🔥🔥 jersey I have ever seen!! Love Dogma!!!
I need that jersey
Can you do a video about your history with hockey (year started, fav players, best po series etc.) since childhood? :)
David Volek answered your prayers in 93. That Pens team was probably the best Mario team, Volek slayed the RoboPenguin.
One of those years the best team doesn't win the Stanley Cup, like the 1971 Blackhawks or Bruins
I got the buddy Christ jersey as well. Are you going to get the 2.0 version?
I’m a massive fan of the Jonestown Jesus Freaks too Shannon!
Thank you for the video. How did you feel about California Golden Seals/Oakland Seals?
Came for the hockey knowledge but loved the Britney Spears roasting.
Interesting topic to hear
Where did you get that Jersey, I love it
Growing up Montreal fan , i still cheered for Tor, unless they were playing each other
Borje Salming was one of my favs probably one of my Mt Rushmore players.
But i understand the media( and fans too) can temper or hone the likeabilty/hatred of the team.
Doesnt affect my like of team, but yes you have 1/2 hour of Cdn hockey teams, spend 15 mins on Tor, few minutes on the next few Cdn teams, barely talking about some of the teams before back to finsh with 10 mins of leafs talk🙄
And there have been years where leafs were the worst/mediocre team, out of playoff run, number of other Cdn teams playing so well , thick of chasing playoff spot. Same formula/coverage
Love the jersey, my dad has the same one :)
This video is awesome Thanks
Opening a soda can best raw sound out there or one of em😂
Living in Connecticut ive only ever met a ducks fan once and i felt like i was on a safari looking at some rare animal.
Love the Faith/Buffy reference.
We’re due to watch that and Angel again.
That opening took me back to years ago :D
Great opening!
In the off-season when you have time, could you do a video on how the San Jose Sharks weren’t really an expansion team?
Shannon, always wondered, would you say that as you have come to expand your viewing of the league and have come to have more balanced outlooks on other teams, including straight rivals of teams you like, would you say that expanding same said coverage to an extent away from the canucks some, the counter effect has happened and you have found yourself not necessarily hating the canucks ofcourse, but found yourself feeling less attached somewhat to them?
I loved the north stars as a boy. Used to listen to their games on the radio after I was sent to bed.
What about when Bourque went to the Avs to win a cup? Did you like that or hate that, being a Bruins fan and all?
The buddy Christ jersey. Awesome
Sometimes it's amazing how quickly a team can change from hate to love or vice versa
Case in point early years Huge Montreal fan, ..... Vancouver thought they had the stupidest jersey, a hockey rink...pffft... now I love that Jersey.
Montreal fan with Atlanta flames, which grew when they moved to Calgary.esp later on moved to Calgary
Mentioned Joel Otto 😅, I had cheered Van in 82 run
Now such a harsh fought match that I flowed from utter dislike to admiration of Van in the series. Harold Snepts also flowed in that same vein😅.
Very similar thing happened when Cheering Van who lost to the wild, equally frustrating Willie Mitchell who also because of the series became enamored with...later joining Van 😅
Sometimes players or playoff runs changes on perception.
Canada Cup or Russia vs Canada series or Russia vs NHL teams, would also change one's opinion of players or teams.
Without even hitting "play"... I just need this jersey.
It's the "Buddy Christ" from the movie Dogma
I was in kindergarten in central New York and picked the Nordiques as my favorite team. Only lasted one year but I stuck with the team and now a day one Avs fan. Teams I’ve hated are Red Wings, Devils, Wild, Flyers
cracking that cold one was a power move
Pop can... things about to get real
That jersey is crazy
Amazing jersey
Nailed it on TML for reasons to hate in Canada. No love here though. Love the videos Shannon.
Alains morrisette was the debbie gibson of pop in the 90s in Canada hockeyguy
You & Yvonne seen "Mallrats"; I think I've seen "Dogma", but it's been many, many moons ago!
I’ve hated the flyers too but I can’t stop loving them
Love the buddy Christ jursey. Kevin Smith would be proud
Loved the Pizza Pizza advertisement !😊
I like the Wings that is it. Been a fan since Gordie been up and down but I ride with that same with the Lion's . Still I appreciate your opinion.
It’s hard to hate a city that’s had to endure Ned Harkness AND Matt Millen.
Im so happy to have you in my life and that you make me think there is good Canadian people. All the things that has happened with Canadians in Sweden has sadly giving me a bad view of the people.
Well I thought that was all super fair and honest.
Some love/hate...some hate/hate..We all have these emotions..
..Wanna hug it out?
That buddyChrist jersy is awsome
Minnesota, the only state/province where our sports teams could be hated for being boring.
Not all of us instantly adopted the Wild in 2000. Lots of sad North Stars fans that couldn't get into the new team. I didn't force fandom on myself and it took several seasons before even caring about the Wild.
the one place i can feel at home liking multiple teams in a sport. never understood why this upset people so much, sports is literally there for entertainment, and i get the most entertainment out of a sport following multiple teams
That was a heartbreaker series for Vancouver in 02, but don't worry redwings fans love you.
Soda can opening!!! Is this a recommended video from 2016??
I loved the Ducks going back to that first year. I remember that first year with Paul Kariya, who is from the Vancouver area. I was in Anaheim at the Disneyland Hotel in January, right before the earthquake, and I remember watching a local broadcast of a Ducks game with Tinkerbell and being 11 years old, I still thought Disney was kind of cool. Roger Rabbit was one of my favourite movies (and man, does that movie ever hold up). I remember having those giant breakfast burritos at the Monorail Cafe. I soured a bit on the Ducks around the time Burke went there and those players pretty much fell into their lap. But I still like the city (even though I can’t stand hot weather physically) and I never met a nasty person there. You guys do decent angel hair pasta, too.
I pull for two teams. Los Angeles is number one for me, sorry, not sorry. Second is New Jersey. The hate is definitely towards Calgary, Philadelphia, and now Vegas. Funny with pulling for the Devils, I did like Pittsburgh when they had Lemieux and Jagr. Hot and cold on Edmonton as well. Started pulling for the Kings because they had the Louisiana State Colors, back when I was 9 or 10 years old. Hate might also be Dallas as well, but it comes from the Football side of things. Grew up a Rams fan.
Perfect jersey for this
Thought that was an Acadie Bathurst Titan jersey at first.
Same
Vancouver, Boston, Dallas and Ottawa?
I cheer for Edmonton, Montreal and anyone playing the Leafs.
I've kinda hitched myself to the islanders as I've started getting into hockey, and yeah they kinda suck but I still love 'em.
💙Always Believe🧡
As a Devils Fan I hate the Rangers and Penguins
I liked the Islanders though
My brother is a Devils fan, so I root for them as long as it doesn't hurt my Isles
PS - F the Rags!
Thanks bro Isles fan since 80... I never disliked the devils and especially now .cool team... and I feel ur pain since Lou ruined ur franchise and is trying to do the same to my beloved Isles ..so u guys deserve success...lol
Guess the Wings have to put Soderblom in for good this year if they want Shannon to like them
Remember growing up everybody hated Montreal ie winning all the time. Only time was people said after first win or two of Flyers, anybody beat the broadstreet bullies- incl hated Montreal. It wasn't that people didn't like hard physical play, ( or that Flyers didn't have skill and finesse) bit that it came down to extreme bully behavior that was overriding everything else. I liked numerous Flyers , liked some of the rough stuff, but after a few seasons of slapshot hockey, fun at first , quickly tiring of all the fighting and no hockey.
If anything Shannon has showed its complicated😅
Yeah! The soda can! Man, brings me back all those 6 years ago haha. Also, buddy christ!
I love this video and your honesty, but I have to disagree with your view about Vegas. You said they haven't had any growing pains or hardships, any fan that was around with the Marc-Andre Fleury trade knows hurt, but also you need to remember how Vegas started they're very first franchise game...they were having to deal with the Vegas shooting and they had a lot riding on the outcome of game one and the inaugural season. Thanks for your awesome work!
"I loved Montreal" - Words that I thought you would never utter!
This subject is Shannon’s highest viewed video I can see why he’s doing it again , good shit tho
Where did you get that Buddy Christ jersey? I need one as someone who is a passionate fan of the movie and has visited many of the filming locations.
www.geekyjerseys.com/product.php?id=385 The one I have is sold out, but they have a white/cream colored version right now.
As a lifelong Devils fan, hating the trap just sounded like sour grapes to me back then. Now that I'm older, it still does. As far as a team I hate, its Colorado hands down. Not that they beat the devils in the finals so much, its that Borque got his hands on a title before he retired because of it.
used to hate the red wings but not really now. even got a fedorov jersey which i never would have believed. those red wings teams were so good there, those were special teams and i hated that so damn much
lets be honest, Shannon loves every team out there.
no way he brought the soda can back 😂🤣
Growing up, I had my teams like this more or less:
1. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Teemu Selanne & Paul Kariya was just the best duo and the MD team being the league underdog etc. made me love them.
2. Toronto Maple Leafs - Mats Sundin single handely followed by Curtis Joseph later on. Sundin was an awesome 2-way center and a great leader and always humble.
3. Pittsburgh Penguins - Mario Lemieux & Jaromir Jagr with Ron Francis was just fenominal and I also loved the "Flying Penguin logo".
4. San Jose Sharks - Today they have been for some years my 2nd team in NHL. The Sharks have always been a good organisation and had many players I liked.
5. New York Rangers - Mark Messier, Brian Leetch & Mike Richter where some of my very favourite players of all times and growing up with therer Rangers made me always like them.
6. Vancouver Canucks - Pavel Bure was cool and all, but I started to like the Canucks in about 1997 with there new colors and logo and then when Markus Naslund and Co bloomed out I enjoyed the team. Not a fan of there current colors, but still have a spot for them.
7. Edmonton Oilers - I came around after the Gretzky days where over, but still liked the team and its charisma it had despite a struggling 90's and when they introduced there updated marine-blue colors and the Oiler worker 2nd logo era I really liked the, Ryan Smyth, Tommy Salo and DOugh Weight was players I liked and now with McDavid makes them having a spor for me and I hope they one day will win a Cup.
8. Buffalo Sabres - The Dominik Hasek era with the "Angry Bison" logo and black/red/white colors made me love the team. They always felt like a tough "wall" to get around and no wonder with the dominance of Hasek single handely winning games for them further helped. Pat Lafontaine was also a nice touch earlier on. Did not like when they went back to the yellow/blue/white colors and logo, but yeah I still have a spot for them.
9. Quibec Nordiques - This was a team I enjoyed despite fighting uphills. When they had Joe Sakic, Mats Sundin, Owen Nolan etc they looked like a very interesting future team but Sundin went traded to Toronto and the rest is history.
10. Washington Capitals - It started in 1998 with Bondra, Kolzig, Gonchar, Tikkanen, Oates, Juneo, Johansson etc and the awesome "Diving Eagle" era with blue/gold/black colors. I really hoped they would win the 1998 Finals, but the mighty Red Wings where just the better team. And when Jagr was there, I could not understand why his production never came back. And with Alexander Ovetchkin era still going it have been a fine ride. Just always dissapointed they got eliminated in 2nd round. But 2018 was so sweet!
Neutral teams:
- Philadelphia Flyers
- Montreal Canadiens
- Ottawa Senators
- Calgary Flames
- Nashville Predators
- Florida Panthers
- Atlanta Thrashers / Winnipeg Jets
- Hartford Whalers
- Minnesota North Stars / Dallas Stars
- Original Jets
- Detroit Red Wings
- Las Vegas Golden Knights
- Tampa Bay Lighning
- St. Louis Blues
Teams I have never been a fan of since kids days:
1. Los Angeles Kings - They where always that team that stole the lime light from Anaheim & SJ so I just could not learn to like them and as long in to my
adult years seeing them win in 2012 & 2014 SC was not my liking. Sorry, but they are not my team. In any NHL game, I go for crushing them....
2. Carolina Hurricanes - BORING team that never worked for me. Beside Ron Francis and Artur Irbe I have never liked this team. And did not like there 2006 SC win.
3. Arizona Coyotes - The worst team between 2004 to 2021. I just could not stand them play or like there lame red Coyote logo and jerseys. Now they are getting up....
4. New York Islanders - They never clicked with me. Beside there 1996-1998 years with good looking uniforms I always felt they where boring and a team that got nowhere.
5. New Jersey Devils - I liked Martin Brodeur and Scott Niedermayer, but I never liked the team name and hated the guts of dirty Scott Stevens (still dislike him for his dirty hits) and how the Devils managed to defeat my Penguins, Maple Leafs, Rangers, Sabres and in finals defeat my Ducks in 2003 made me truly dislike them.
Still overjoyed when we got Scott over as he was the only player beside Brodeur I liked on that team.
6. Boston Bruins - I liked Ray Borque but after that felt they where like Islanders, a team that where boring and offered nothing for many years.
Also disliked the "Yellow B" logo and lame designed bear they had on shoulders in the late 80's to early 90's.
7. Minnesota Wild - Never felt like an insiring team and never have had a logo that spoke for me. Blue Jackets and Thrashers where much easier to like then them.
8. Chicago Blackhawks - Never liked them. Beside Ed Belfour they never clicked for me. And them getting the 1st pick in this rigged draft made a renewal of dislike them.
9. Colorado Avalanche - I liked a lot Patrick Roy and liked Joe Sakic, but after that I always saw the Avs as bitter competition for my teams and liked Sundin over Forsberg as Swedens "best player" back then. However that would be Nicklas Lidstrom who took that crown in the end!
7:45 and then bowman decided they needed to get larionov from san jose and he would eventually win three cups with the wings
Have you tried his wine?
