    This is great, Matt, and this is one of the main reasons why I watch rc truck videos to learn what mods to consider and not consider without having to waste a lot of money. I can't imagine anyone getting upset with someone else testing various setups and providing pluses and minuses. You and Josh's videos are very helpful in this manner, not to mention very entertaining.

  • @bmccormick08
    @bmccormick08 5 лет назад +7

    Maybe I missed it in the video, but there should definitely be a note about needing to reverse the motor direction and making a small gearing change to make up for the lost reduction in the hubs! I loved this mod though. Nothing better than a low slung crawler

    Buying a TRX-4 kit, where portal axles is a key feature, using it for a budget build, and spending $120 to delete that feature, doesn't make a lot of sense. But each to their own.

    Nice! I was searching earlier this year build topics or running videos about TRX-4 with portal delete kit. I didn't found any. Also research trx-4 gearing with portal delete kit, smaller motor pinion suggested.. I guess :) So waiting for running video with portal delete kit. Big thumbs up!

    Thank you!! I can't tell you how much it bothers me that people claim to have scale rigs that are not actually scale... portals on Broncos and non-porals on unimogs just confuses the shit out of me. • @montesamapping
    @montesamapping 5 лет назад +3

    We have Axial (no portal) and Traxxas (std portal).
    Portal have may advantage for obstacles between wheels, the problems with high center of gravity are more caused by high and heavy top, than by portals.
    Removing portals make the chassis lower and gives more problems with short transverse obstacles.
    I think is foolish !
    To solve problems, buy Sport model from Traxxas instead of more expensive models !
    Quite foolish too, but real solution !

    Portals? We don't need no stinking portals:D Nothing wrong with trying something outside of the box and am interested to see how the driving characteristics change with the modification.

      Amen Kevin. People who are so aggressively upset about this need to realize that this hobby is very personal, and we build our trucks to our own specs.

    Man you got to let me know when you do something like this before you post the video so I can stock the hobby store with this stuff, usually by the time I'm back to work it's backordered LOL. Ssd portal deletes backordered everywhere... Im going to have to change order days to Wednesday 😆! Great stuff!

    I too have been considering it, but its a salty cost to not just sell the trx axles and swap something else under it instead. The loss of gear reduction also has me a bit concerned about it. If there was a cheaper option out there to try it out, I would have likely already done it. Seems to be very un popular swap in general. Good luck though, I'll be watching.

      A re-gear is definitely in order and I will address that soon.

    I would really like to see Traxxas make a new crawler chassis non portal rig , with a detailed licensed body that hasnt been over done yet.
    Word on the streets is Axials new trail truck has portals.

    Hi I just converted one of my trx4 to a d-portal rig and it is way over geared now even with a 9t pinion and a 45 spur are you running stock motor? What else have you done to lower the gearing thanks Dean 👍

    • @mtzlsf
      @mtzlsf 2 года назад

      you may consider using undergear pinion/ring gears for both differentials. this way you can get ~38:1 overall gear reduction
