I hate when people say "they sound like ____". No _____ sounds like voivod.

VOIVOD are awesome. Nothingface the album after this is my favourite, it’s more progressive. It also has a pink floyd cover.

Dimension Hatross is probably my favorite thrash metal album. So much imagination and creativity, which describes Voivod as a whole really. Piggy was a genius guitar player that utilized dissonance in a very unique way. Killing Technology, Hatross and Nothingface are a trilogy of masterpieces that every fan of progressive music needs to hear.

This album was so ahead of it's time. A lot of people didn't understand it. I got this my freshman year of high school. Listened to it all the way through probably
tens of thousands of times. I know every note of this album. I just listened to it last week for Christ sakes lol. I will never stop listening to 70's, 80's, and 90's music.

My favorite album of all time. Killing Technology and Nothingface are tied for their next best in my opinion. Their new album The Wake is also phenomenal.

This album was my intro to Voivod a few months ago and it’s honestly one of the best records I’ve ever heard. So creative and unique from the vocals to the instrumentals.

The concept description of the album is the following: "Inside a giant particle accelerator, a beam of protons travelling at near the speed of light meets a beam of antiprotons moving equally fast in the opposite direction. The protons and mirror-image antiprotons annihilate each other, creating the fiery chaos of a parallel microgalaxy. Experiment one complete, the 'Voivod' goes into that new dimension, meeting different civilisations and psychic entities, extracting knowledge and energy in the eight programs of this project called: Dimension Hatröss"
Looking at someone new to Voivod listening to this masterpiece is enlightening. There are great thing going on in any human brain when listening to Voivod, isn't it? Definite wow factor it was for me to when I first came into contact with Voivod.
By the way, the guitar is not "off", it's controlled dissonance, the style invented by virtuoso guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour. He was using chords that mankind had never heard before, all this coupled with crazy time signature changes Those are some of the reasons why Voivod sounds like nothing else.
It definitely does NOT sound like Metallica nor System of a Down, I'll forgive those ones to you, if you vow to never say that again :). I oppose to the word "raw", also. It's powerful, but so technical and ahead of its time, the term "raw" just doesn't apply to that. Powerful and compelling both definitely apply.
I suggest you have a look at videoclips from the Dimension Hatröss era.
    Psychic vacuum: ruclips.net/video/QCAMqXJlWeQ/видео.html
    Tribal convictions: ruclips.net/video/TfpYIPbrcdY/видео.html
The track "Batman" has been added much later to the CD version only and is not part of the concept at all.
Van Der Graff Generator is an influence for sure, it's Away's favorite band. Voivod did fuel from it, but definitely invented something totally new.
Now you'll have to replace that Dream Theater record displayed at your side by Voivod's Dimension Hatröss.
Please pay a visit to the "Voivodians" facebook group. Great place to be.

too bad I missed this live, the #1 mistake every new Voivod listener does is attempt to Force VoiVod Into their little box, Attempt to predict the path of a song, Expectations of any sort is the #1 mistake every new VoiVod listener will make.
