Voivod are influenced by a ton of different bands and styles, this song is from 1988 and is quite thrashy and prog, they were such pioneers and innovators of various metal styles, really great band and great song, to get an idea of today´s sound try the song called "Kluskap O'kom", not as intrincated as Tribal Convictions but still very good

One of the most unique metal bands ... you wont hear another like them. This album and the next 2 or 3, were groundbreaking and just fantastic!

Yo I’m so happy you were into this. Voivod were insanely innovative especially for their time when this was released in 1988. Listen to the rest of this album, Dimension Hatröss.

Nothingface is my favorite album of theirs. The cover of Astronomy Domine on there is one of the best cover songs ever.

Fun Facts (confirmed by the video's assistant director):
    - It was shot on Super 8 film at the band's rehearsal space
    - The "are there any forces" section makes use of the band's earlier video, Ripping Headaches
Brilliant art on a shoestring budget.

Cool reactions with keen observations. I say this as a Voivod fan from the 1980s who finally saw them in 2024.

Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax all formed in 1981, one year before Voivod did. Yikes!

I always saw VOIVOD as a hybrid of Metsl crossed with King Crimson. Piggy had a serious Robert Fripp thing going on with the diminished chording and such. KC and other stuff like Yes and Rush were big influences as well as Van Der Graaf Generator, who drummer AWAY is a HUUUUUUUUGE fan of.

Thank you for this reaction, you brought me back to when this came out, I was completely amazed and weirded out at the same time. Please listen to the whole album 10 times in a row, this is a masterpiece. Voivod left a major imprint on music today, it's a highly influential band, a band for bands.

Let me add that Dimension Hätross is nothing less than a monument of Prog-thrash, and even of Heavy Metal. This album should be listened from start to end to be appreciated as it should!

    1988 - Dimension Hatröss
    1989 - Nothingface
Must be listen. I prefer 1987 - its more metal than prog :)

If you think the song is great read the lyrics
    Powerful stuff.
And the use of linguistics with the meaning of the whole theme of the album
    Good lord.
So many tripped out visions listening to this

Like a lot here, I was into punk/thrash/metal back in the mid 80s and Voivod didn't sound like anything else. A truly original band. I describe them to people as the Rush of space thrash/metal.
