    Voivod are innovative and unique. Dimension Hatross and Nothingface are definitely worth checking out.

    I'm no musician, but to my ear, this is a jazz song played as if it were that thrashy mix of hardcore and metal. Those guitar chords and leads are something you didn't usually hear in metal, except when early Black Sabbath were in the right mood, and even then, Voivod seemed to take it in a far stranger direction. The song seems to be about a living "psychic vacuum" - a swarm of parasitic spirits of oblivion which have invaded The Voivod's space(?)craft... those early guitar noises are like alarms sounding, while the rest of the song embodies a paranoid, claustrophobic anxiety as the vacuum invades the character's mind and personality, threatening to erase his ego from existence, until the character is able to fight back, resist the invasion, and then turn on his tormentors to absorb their strange power.

    I've seen Voivod live 30 times from 1987-2019, always amazing from the thrash cyberpunk era to the psychedelic metal to straight out rock to today, Its been a wild ride. You have to see them if you ever get a chance. Their fans are among the.most knowledgeable and dedicated, lifers who don't just like the band but really get them.

    Voivod have been through a lot of style changes. At that time slot of van DER great generator and king crimson as well as early rush were in their mix. They are big prog fans

    Shane! You the man! I remember when I first bought this record waaaay back when I worked at an auto parts store in 1989. I hung with my co-worker and went to a music store (my co-worker played many great Van Halen songs on guitar) and we each bought some Marshall amps. We went to a record store and I bought the LPs of Voivod Dimension Hatross and Metal Church's The Dark. That night I went home, "medicated" myself and was zoning on these records. Still my favorite Voivod album. All the songs are great. RIP Piggy.

    you may be thinking of their 'Ravenous Medicine' video?

    • @pietrayday9915
      @pietrayday9915 2 года назад

      If it wasn't the "Ravenous Medicine" video, it might have been "Clouds in My House", where the CGI face emerges from the kick drum-head - all of the band's videos are strange, but that one was a unique kind of trippy even for them!

    plucking one song of this album is not actually fair... their albums had a sound and it flowed song to song following "the voivod" (a psychic entity) in it's journey /story... up until the Angel Rat / Outer Limits albums which are fantastic but not based on the "Voivod" entity...

    one of my favorite bands, check out Martyr if you haven't, the new guitar virtuoso that plays in Voivod had a band called Martyr inspired by Voivod, Martyr is more on the Death metal side but definitely catered to that meticulous technical style, great ideas, and out of the box arrangements

    Thinking about what was out back in the late 80s and putting Voivod up alongside some of the music getting more airplay on MTV, I can see why they get cred they do for being trailblazers, or independent or whatever you want to label them. I can see the "prog" label being thrown on them due to the technical and different way of tempo change and music structure, but interesting in my opinion as I tire a bit of the straight bammety-bammety-bammety-bammety of most thrash or speed stuff. Oh, let me say before Miss A does...the band logo (albiet kinda fangy and weirdly mechanical looking) is hard to read. Let the music speak I guess. 😊

    Damn, Rick Belk got the jump on me - and have I become that transparent already?!? However, I shall OWN IT, darling...logo discrimination has become my calling card, I guess. That being said...what IS this?!? Are the "bookends" Swiss army knives? Are they guns? Is the whole thing a Popeil's Pocket Fisherman?!?! They had another logo that was kind of lightning/static-y looking from what I recall, and that wasn't the easiest to read, either; but it was more user-friendly than this one. YES, I am familiar with this band - by like a fraction. They had some stuff I could easily deal with. Why couldn't the kinda sorta cute dude with the half-shaved head been the singer, though? (Stereotypical, obligatory, female-driven musing.)
