Cardiacs are incredible and Tim Smith is a true genius, recently honoured as such too by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, you’re at the start of an amazing musical journey, I recommend On Land and In The Sea and also Sing to God next , you’re gonna love them

This album changed my life when I first head it back in the 80s, I've never been the same since. Please buy the records - Tim (the singer and composer) has been seriously unwell (essentially paralysed after brain damage following a heart attack) for some time now, and needs support.

Lovely to see you taking your first steps in what will hopefully be an incredible lifelong journey. Cardiacs is a band that stays with you and grows with you through the years. If you want to see the other side of the coin then Sing to God is a must. I'd love to see you do a similar video with that extraordinary album one day!

Great to see someone with open ears and mind encountering Cardiacs. Their combination of theatrical prog complexity and aggressive punk delivery and sheer majestic beauty has entertained and nourished me for thirty years. As others have said, you should investigate the albums On Land And In The Sea and Sing To God, masterpieces both.

Mine too. It's the one that first hooked me. A friend lent me a copy of ALMAAHATWWW soon after it came out and first I thought "this is weird", then "this is funny", then "this is clever", then "THIS IS AMAZING!"

In spring 1988 i read a review of this album. The LP version got 5 of 5 and the CD version got 6 of 5. 6 months later i was in London and bought the CD. Fantastic and still is.

Tim smith and Cardiacs have been said to be an influence to people from napalm death, to blur, to mike patton and even steven wilson! a true testament to his genius with writing music.

Sing To God is the one you really need to do at some point. It's long, but there isn't a bad one in the whole album. And there's never been another album like it ever created on planet Earth.
And I know I'm about a year and a half late and a few bucks short, but they most certainly did record these albums with a click, but used several click tracks for the same song, pasting in the parts in many cases. You can hear this, if you listen to their albums closely enough, enough times.

I got the feeling you couldn't make out the lyrics but the first song was about working in a factory, hence the steamy, industrial tune.
This is possibly their most conventional album by the way.

I think guns is more conventional, but out of all their early "keyboard era" albums this one would definitely win that title

If you've never heard Cardiacs "The Seaside" before, then you should do a listen through or review of that. It's less unified perhaps, and a bit more punky, but is still really kick ass.

my preferred listening experience for this album is the version with the 'bonus tracks' reinserted where they're meant to be on the album :)

    • @Ficzzho
      @Ficzzho 5 лет назад

Huh. What was the order of the track supposed to be? I always kind of threw the bonus tracks on the side because it felt weird that they were after what was definitely supposed to be the last track on the album. Would definitely love to listen to it reordered as intended to see what it brings to the table.

Congrats on completely crashing the amazing intro and its wonderful unfolding, which sets the scene for what is to come. I refer the honourable gentleman to the words of the Grim Reaper in Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life":
"You love to TALK, you Americans. You talk and you talk and you talk, and then you say things like "Let me tell ya something!". 🤦🏼‍♂️

Is this the life? was probably the only hit single they had. Its a prefectly fine song, but I never felt it was super representative of the band as a whole. Still, it got them to a lot of new ears. Also RIP Tim Smith, nobody made music quite like this mad genius
Also mildly amused yo've blown the names of about half the songs lol
