    Did all of you forget that at the beginning of America there was a massacre of thousands of Native Americans? Adrienne, I am an American and I just watched people burn my flag... I am not offended nor do I care, it's their right to express their opinion and feelings.

    It's a symbol of “freedom” so if people don't feel free you can't expect them to care. Can't have the 1st amendment for some things and not for all.

      Dee M that is their dumbass view. it doesn't make it fact. go to any other country and tell me how free you are. I thought so. its not illegal but it doesn't make it not disrespectful.

      Michael Eaton Go go any other country? Why when we are discussing America? Who is it disrespectful to? Soldiers? The USA is supposed to grant freedom and if you see your own people being oppressed, you protest. That is all that is.

    • @Isaacthedondada
      @Isaacthedondada 7 лет назад +16

      Steven Combs No one is oppressed? Freedom? Wake up or be considerate of those in this country dying everyday because they have a label on them that has yet to be removed. So much struggle in this country so don't let the rich white man they paint as an example fool you.

    This conversation was extremely one sided. You guys didn't even address why people are burning the flag in the first place. I could care less if someone outside America burned our flag because it's no secret that a lot of people look down on Americans. The reason why our own people are burning the flag is because they don't feel represented. And you say it's disrespectful, but why would politically disenfranchised people care to respect an entity that doesn't respect them?

    • @peanutjelly727
      @peanutjelly727 7 лет назад +24

      +Evelyn Ramirez Not long after Trump became president, there was a huge backlash against people of color. Lots of people became concerned about being victims of hate crimes by Trump supporters and eventually having their human rights taken away. If Tamera supports Donald, she's pretty much contributing to the potential oppression of people who look like her. Many people feel that a vote for Trump was essentially a vote for white supremacy and that "Make America great again" really means Make America White Again. As someone who owes a great deal of her career to young black women who supported her career from the beginning, for her to support someone like Trump would be a huge slap in the face to her fans.

    We can address how people are "disrespecting" the flag but we aren't going to talk about the ways in which the flag disrespects the people? We love to talk about how people have died for the flag, but are we not going to talk about how people have been killed by this country for the flag too?? Why is that never emphasized in the same degree????
    Blind patriotism is the devil.
    And side note: If you love America, you will criticize America. That's like letting your bad ass kids continue to be bad because you love them too much to discipline them.

      Anyone who burns the flag needs to be imprisoned and or loss of citizenship. Burning the flag doesn't equate to freedom of speech you idiot. If it wasn't for this flag, you wont enjoy any freedoms. Go to the middle east or china, and try to burn their flag. It'll be the last time you see daylight.

      @luvmifro1003lovesfamily 7 лет назад +1

    • @leslien.552
      @leslien.552 7 лет назад

      Candy Flores Nobody is prohibiting you from going out and protesting. You can go out scream nonsense and walk till your feet hurt! The only thing there asking is for you to respect the flag.
      I bet you that if a white person got up Infront of a public and burned the Mexican (or any other Latino countries) flag that you would be extremely offended. There would be an uproar and people would call them racist!
      Respect is not a one-way street.
      If you want respect, then you better start of by respecting others yourself.
      Sheees! Talk about the"my way or the highway" mentality!

    I totally understand why it's disrespectful to burn the flag and I would feel the same way is someone burned my country's flag (Kenya).
    However, the American flag hasn't always stood for everyone. Minorities in this country have been, and still are disrespected and treated like second class citizens. So when someone is told to be patriotic, and be grateful just for being here when they're marginalized, and discriminated against, they feel disrespected. But to jail someone for burning the flag sounds a little like fascism to me...

    As a DISABLED VETERAN who proudly defended this country, I am not offended by people exercising their rights as Americans. I fought for that right, not for the flag.
    For some reason, we have forgotten that being offended by something is not illegal. They do not have the same meaning. I am more disgusted by the treatment of AMERICAN CITIZENS in 2016 than I am about a piece of cloth. The flag means nothing if the people saluting that flag continue to abuse their sense of "rightness" for those that don't agree. What Trump said was egregious and problematic because of two reasons: (1) He's talking about taking away a basic right to protest that is granted by the constitution; and (2) He has no knowledge of first amendment rights.
    I'm not sure why people seem to ignore this fact. Americans have the right to protest. Any suppression of that right must be vehemently denied.
    I'm saddened that The Real hosts have such a one-sided view of this. I would hope, we, as Americans, begin to research our beliefs and the laws of this land prior to passing judgement on things that are legal. Everyone has opinions, but most of those opinions are based on pure speculation. Read a book, ladies! Rather, read the constitution...

We say we love our soldiers and veterans, but never really give them the best therapy and care after being in a gruesome war. We hold such a high value to the unborn, yet we keep wasting innocent lives. We brag about freedom but the minority are never truly free. The list goes on.

    Correction for my girl Adrienne: A "naturalized" citizen is someone who has been conferred with U.S. citizenship after legally residing in the U.S. for at least 5 years, studying for and passing an exam, and swearing allegiance to defend the Constitution. This is totally different from someone who is a "natural-born" American citizen.

    "That damn flag represents the same thing it meant in the beginning" In the beginning that flag didn't have the same representation to everyone. To some that flag represents genocide, murder, racism, slavery, pillage, the loss of cultures, and so much more. That flag was never designed to represent "others". You shouldn't try to require me or shame me into respecting a symbol that was never designed for me or anyone with otherness. The flag does not represent military it represent AMERICA. People care to much about respecting a cloth or symbol than they do for those the symbol was never designed to and still does't represent.

    I'm up for an open and healthy conversation about this. I'm by no means patriotic nor of military personel, but I still can't fathom the comprehension of burning flags, bibles, furniture or any other items thereof for the sake of "making a point". It doesn't make any sense to me. Yes, it's not illegal nor do some individuals care about these items, but it truly is about respect. I do agree it's disrespectful to be burning objects with a lot of history tied to it. I'm honestly getting sick and tired of hearing about "free speech". It's mostly used to get away with hurting people. There are different and better ways to get your point across without resulting into such bizarre behaviors.

      It's more "disrespectful" to not treat your citizens with equal protection and fairness under the law as is the promise of the constitution and the nation itself.
      That's why some people burn the flag.
      The Flag can't be more important than the people or the things it represents and when people like you make the argument you're making, you're in essence elevating it's importance and meaning above the very real things that those people protesting by burning it are fighting for.
      Let's not forget that the flag used to be (and still continues to be) a symbol to oppress and discriminate against people of the same country it purports to protect and represent.

      RE : "..... I'm fully aware of why they do it, but it's still ridiculous,"
      TO YOU it is.
      Not to them.
      You're looking at it from the perspective of someone who doesn't have to suffer or go through what they go through to make that point that way.
      RE : "..... that the need to go THAT far to "make a point"."
      Think of how bad your life must get for you to believe that the only way to get society to pay attention to your plight is to burn the flag.
      You're judging these people from the vantage point of never having to fear going through what they do through or understand life from their perspective.
      The fact that it upsets you and people like you so much to see the flag burns means that it's an effective method of achieving their purpose.
      Seeing their sons and daughters murdered by cops and gun-toting vigilantes and not getting any justice isn't enough.
      So what should they do?
      Just keep burying their children and continue to suffer in silence and say, "Thank you Massah. Can I have some more?"
      I mean, come on.
      RE :"It's like burning another human being merely 'cause you're fighting for a cause because it's your belief. "
      No, actually it's not, and that's a TERRIBLE analogy.
      A Human being is a LIFE.
      A Flag is an object.
      One that is without any meaning if we don't give it so.
      RE : >>>" I'm happy to treat you with you respect, but if you need to burn things to the ground, to get my attention, it's a deeper issue."
      Again, if you can't consider for a moment what a person or persons have to go through to get to the point where they feel this is the only way they can get society to pay attention to their plight much less address it, then there's not much I can say in this that can convince you as you are utterly without any empathy.
      RE : >>>"My perspective is it's a disgusting thing to do."
      To YOU...
      A person who can afford the luxury of saying so and feeling so.
      RE: >>>" You're taking things that aren't your's to burn them. ""
      People who usually burn flags typicaly burn their OWN flags which they've bought with their own money.
      An act which the Supreme Court of the United States ruled was completely LEGAL and protected by the Constitution as a form of free speech and protest.

      Cbricklyne You act as though I have zero problems. I don't see how throwing a hissy fit changes anything. That's what I see. I understand the problems, and it's OK to perform self defense, but I don't view burning anything as a self defense act. As far as IK I don't see any legitimate reasons to be burning anything, undermining anything for anything.
      You're speaking to me as if I've wronged you, and you're alienating me, everything you're fighting against. It's the same 'ol same 'ol "well, you don't understand" merely 'cause I simply disagree with the way it's being handled.
      Do what you need to do to survive, but I honestly think it's too much attention seeking, something I never want. I survive by going underneath the radar, not running into it.
      Yes, to me, that's the whole point, and you continue to berate me about it, that I shouldn't be feeling this way because you're doing it for a reason, and you will continue to do so, no matter what I say. To me, you're still disrespecting me to which I can't be bothered with such people.
      You'd rather burn objects because it's "lifeless", to me, you seem to not respect somebody's own point of view on it making it a disrespectable notion. To which I cannot stand behind. It's a wrong trying to correct a wrong and evidently, nothing good comes from it but more violence.

      How you suddenly became the victim in all this (when there are people actually losing their children) is beyond me, but hey, I guess that's white privilege for you.

      Allowing abortion doesn't mean you agree with or even have an opinion on it. I'm a man and I think I should never have an opinion on what a woman wants to do with her baby, unless i'm the father.
      If you don't pay for that baby's food, if you don't plan on raising him, or pay his college tuition, then you don't have any rights to talk about somebody's decision to abort. Thats just forcing your religious beliefs on somebody you don't even know and won't even remember.

    • @Isaacthedondada
      @Isaacthedondada 7 лет назад +2

      Catherine Heart My thing is, so many pro life people are quick to voice their opinion but rarely adopt. You know how many mentally ill, traumatized, etc kids are in foster homes because their parents chose to have them and not take care of them. Why keep adding on that number? Humans do a lot worse to others, and other species but you guys fuss because a woman terminates an unborn life. Possibly saving it...

    • @AlphabetSoup123
      @AlphabetSoup123 7 лет назад

      +Catherine Heart Do you see the hypocrisy of your comment? You are saying that you do not "intend" to give birth, which denotes your CHOICE yet, you want to strip another woman of her choice to choose the same thing.
      People like you who are against abortions don't take into account the different types and ways that people become pregnant. Not every woman is having consensual sex, some are raped. Not every woman is going to be giving birth to this "healthy" and "beautiful" baby that everyone always alludes to when it comes to counterarguments about abortion and pregnancy, sometimes a child will be condemned to struggle for the rest of their life. Likewise, not every woman is going to have a healthy pregnancy or can even handle pregnancy, there are women who aren't able to carry the child to term and therefore must terminate a pregnancy and sometimes a woman who isn't mentally stable can jeopardize the child's life in the long run if she gives birth.
      Pro-lifers use such a blanketed definition of abortion without thinking about case by case analysis. There is no "one size fits all" solution for abortion. I can't tell you what's good for your body as a woman nor, can you tell me what is good for myself as a woman. If you don't like abortion, don't get one. There's no need to muddle in others affair.

      I don't believe in flag burning generally, but if I were a war veteran, coming back to this country after losing my arm in war and becoming homeless and not receiving treatment for my condition, or if my unarmed family member were killed by the police and the media tried to vilify my family and the police officer is acquitted, my opinion might be different. There are so many people who are doing more time in jail for committing the same crimes as their white counterparts who may never even get to see the inside of a jail after committing the same crime. There are innocent young black and latino men in jail right now who are being targeted by law enforcement in low-income communities because they don't have the means to afford a proper attorney to represent them. Look at what's happening to indigenous communities in North Dakota who are fighting that pipeline and the people of Flint Michigan who STILL don't have clean water! And the list goes on.
      These ladies are such a disappointment.

    • @SocietyEatsBread

      The whole flag itself is said to represent freedom.
      Going back to what Jeannie said about the Vietnamese flag in regards to the old one: You can't represent the old flag because the new one is what's in place and represents their communism and you will face the consequences. You can't represent what's not in place. And I feel that's kind of similar to people burning the flag. They're burning something that isn't really there, freedom.
      People are burning the American flag because they feel like they do not have the freedom that they are said to have the rights too. They're burning the misrepresentation. I don't think people really consider the veterans and the current soldiers when burning the flag because at the end of the day they are still fighting for us REGARDLESS OF who is in power and I think it's common sense to respect them (At least it should be).
      This country from the day it became a nation was BUILT for the rich, the white, and the men of those two upbringings. That is why Donald Trump is offended. They're burning HIS country. Not the black's country, not the women's country, not the children's country, not the soldier's country, HIS.
      I don't know TBH.

    Maybe it's because I'm Canadian and "flag burning" isn't really as big an issue here as it seems to be in the US, or at least not so much that I've noticed, I honestly don't see it as a big deal. It's just a piece of fabric. Yes, it's disrespectful, but it shouldn't be illegal. Let people do what they want to do. Burning a piece of fabric with a country's flag is literally not hurting anyone. The most it would do is anger some people who are overly patriotic. If I saw someone burning the Canadian flag is public, I'd probably say, "..What the hell? That's pretty rude", and then I would go on about my day. But I certainly would not feel that that person would deserve to have their citizenship stripped of them or that they belong in jail. If people are angry at their country and the way they choose to express that anger is through burning the country's flag, you have to admit that's pretty harmless.

    The irony of it all. The us army fights for our rights to be able to protect our freedom, such as the 1st amendment and to be able to burn the flag, legally. So as much as you may disagree and be offended, the 1st amendment is there to protect everyone, and all voices of expression. Burning the flag may mean something different from person A to person Z. To equate all flag burning as a sign of anger, is also an overall assumption or generalization. So if this show is about equality and diversity - shouldn't it be recognized? The main issues is not why, but a matter of when Donald Trump will execute orders for oppression and neo facism. Keep in mind he's not even in office yet, imagine the power that will be given to him on day 1.

      Cbricklyne Yes, that is obvious but the point they're making is that the people who are burning the flag aren't just burning "a piece of cloth." They are burning what the flag represents because they are fed up & frustrated. So even though the flag is just a flag, it was made with the intent to represent something. If you negate the symbolic representation of the flag it would simply fail to exist.

    Poor Adrienne, she meant well by what she attempted to say - but got the terms Natural-born Citizen & Natrualized Citizen mixed up.
    However, are we just going to ignore the fact that President-elect Trump automatically assumed the protestors burning the flag weren't Natural-born Citizens? I was more offended at his assumption - as appose to what he actually said. You can teach an elder our amendments, but unfortunately you cannot train their brains to function differently. He'll never change his racist mindset.

    Burning the flag should be frowned upon. These girls are completely right. Patriotic citizens!

    Punishing someone for disrespecting the government in terms of freedom of speech/expression is beyond authoritarian. We should be able to burn flags, call out our government, and question our government all we want! That's a way of holding our government accountable for any screwed up things they may do. I dont care how hurt anyone's feelings get, because we hold that right within our Constitution, and we are lucky enough to do so! Whereas in some other countries that don't have freedom of speech, you'll get killed. A true patriot will take advantage of their first amendment rights.

    Not condemning a single person for burning the flag.. AND I'm American.. more importantly African American.. blessed to be free yes but once upon a time my people weren't. Long story short the flag doesn't represent my people much. I wouldn't burn a flag but I'm not side eyeing people who do it either.

    Like it or not. There are people in America (born) that feels the American Flag does not represent them. There are thousands of Veterans not properly taken care of in this country. We see the commercials for this all the time. The KKK and similar groups wave the flag and the bible around as a mascot for their cause..if burning a flag should be illegal..its my opinion that hate groups waving the flag around should also be criminalized. Respect is Earned.

    I think if flag burning is made illegal, the level of punishment should be similar to that of defacing public/private property (like graffiti).

    I just have one question for Americans ( and I'm honestly curious ) how is your military "fighting FOR your country" when they are going abroad meddling in other countries' businesses ? Because I always here Americans say "I want to thank our military for defending our country" but I really don't understand this statement because no one is attacking America ! It's literally America that is choosing to go fight others conflicts ( and please don't say that they are bringing democracy because we all know that's just an excuse to take the wealth of other nations)
