Will H I've been the only white person in the room too. The fact that you sense that everyone hates you and are looking at you like wtf are you doing here is not comfortable. I think from white people is more like, I want to treat this person right so they don't think I hate black people. I've been in situations when I'm trying to be extra nice because I tried to make the person feel like they are welcomed here, from black people towards whites it's just straight up hate.
Totally! When people are excited and inviting you to participate in their culture, you can't help but feel home because you're being WELCOMED into something they cherish! It stops being about the culture and starts being about the people. You're like "Wow! You, as *people* , showed me such openness and love... how can I NOT feel like I'm home?"; Home is where you're embraced and accepted for who you are.
That's one thing I like about Jeannie. She's a culture appreciator, not a culture appropriator. She genuinely loves different cultures and people aren't hesitant to share their culture with her.
Dee Jay you have too. I’ve never been called the “N” word (to my face anyways) or in my presence of being able to hear it being said. I’ve never used the “C” word (not Caucasian either) because that’s just not how I was raised🤷🏾♀️
People who are looking for extra deep conversations should check other shows. The Real is primarily a light hearted entertaining show that sometimes "touch" on serious issues! Don't go to Popoyes looking for caviar or filet mignon!
I totally understand what you mean, however, I have to disagree. Some of these other shows are not able to reach a wide audience like The Real does, some of these other shows simply do not have the platform to do so. They have the opportunity to raise awareness about racism and other deep-rooted topics. They simply can not raise a topic about race and brush it under the rug and act like racism does not exist. I personally feel that a lot of what they said is a fantasy we all will like to believe that being different is amazing all the time but the reality of life is that being different is hard, I don't think they are being "The Real" if they are not completely honest. If they want to have a light hearted show they can, they do not have to bring up race and stuff and don't call it The Real, but if they are going to talk about it talk about it properly and lets talk about the reality of racism in the 21st century. I think that father was worried people (other children) may judge his daughter and preconceived notions about her because there is a lack of positive representation of black people in the media, and it's just for him to feel that way because it is true. Some races have more negative representation and some other races have more positive representation and it skews the way other people view other races and he does not want his daughter to be viewed negatively. unfortunately "The Real" did not raise that all.
Yea I completely get what you're saying but I disagree. What's the point of the repping themselves as a panel comprised entirely of women of color if they don't mean to talk about issues from their unique perspective? Why call themselves "The Real", implying a show of candid commentary if all they give are cookie-cutter, made for tv responses?
positive learning can make you see good in people and be strong enough to completely disregard blunt racism. If more taught like that racism would disappear. History is weird like that, children don't see racism. BUT we teach history to keep it from repeating itself, and because without knowledge there is no way to control the flow of information or maybee more likely misinformation spreading from older generations. SO we do best in staying positive and teaching our children equality and that race doesn't really matter, only people who have been taught hate think so. No race is less or more than any other, however because of history we will have to face this or that sometimes and never be afraid to speak up for yourself because even if it is happening it's not ok. And they are the ones who are doing wrong.
One thing about Tamar even though she got on my damn nerves sometimes she would be the only one to actually address these topics to an extent. They went from race to culture which isn't the same thing and Tamera gave her usual "just be yourself" speech. They talk about being the only show with a panel of POC but are afraid to address POC issues to keep those checks coming from guess who...
Thank you! Im soo disappointed. I can't believe Loni sat her big DARK BLACK self (I'm black as hell too & black is beautiful) up there & gave a we are the world speech. Girl bye! You know good & damn well we are treated differently even at 3. Not because kids are racist at that age but because white superiority whether that means beauty or power is ingrained in us at a young age. She's well aware of this hence why she was only one last week who said they wouldn't let their man see them without a wig because her hair is too nappy. Bye Loni! Keep it real. How I define myself isn't going to stop someone else from treating me less than OR killing me.
Does anyone else feel like at times they are too politically correct? It kinda comes across as fake and like they don't want to have deep conversation.
I agree with you. It's one of the reasons why I prefer the hot topic section of The View - they say all kinds of politically incorrect stuff and don't care. The Real is too soft at times.
It has a lot to do with the time slot and the network I think. It's usually, Mother's etc who are actually watching when it airs, and typically younger women are still in 9-5 schedule/school/not yet mothers with a more flexible schedule. Them being on the more conservative Fox network is why, in my opinion, they can discuss religion, and Jesus for however long they want (to each their own), and never discuss other religions, world topics, or heavy topics such as racism. Wendy Williams gets away with a lot more because she's just talking celebrity gossip, so it's frivolous compared to racial politics.
Yeah I agree. I go to the view if I want real, deep, controversial conversations. I love The Real but here is where I get my occasional laughs and fun and ironically...not really a place for a REAL convo. And I think that's something they should improve on. Stop trying to be PC all the time and SPEAK. You have a platform...USE IT
"Don't make it about skin colour." Sigh, Tamera.....The world is not peaches and cream. Avoiding the issue of the topic isn't making you guys look better, it's avoiding what could've been a really true, real, deep discussion. Even if for 10 minutes on Daytime TV. Be real with your opinions and feelings.
Why are you surprised by anything she says regarding race? Her husband tweets some real ignorant things from time to time regarding race issues. Any black/mixed woman who can be cool with a clueless fool like that shouldn't surprise you in the least.
She is as much a white person as she is a black person. Quite naturally it's awkward for her. That's why she said "Don't make it about skin color" She wants to dismiss it because it's uncomfortable and ambiguous. I just can't stand how white men date biracial women and say they are dating a black woman so they are not racist. I just roll my eyes because they fail to admit black and biracial are not the same thing.
I completely agree, especially with having 4 women of color that represent different colors really, I'm disappointed they couldn't really get really real, pun intended. I wanted to hear, because I know they've had them, what negative experiences they've had because of there race. I get they're trying to be positive, but you can be enlightening and knowledgeable and still end on a positive. u can't ignore the obvious.
Yes, I agree! In my opinion, growing up blind/ignoring the way most of the country sees people of color can be quite dangerous to the mind. Eventually a person of color will inevitably experience the negativity that's faced in life because of their race. This is just the truth, and the only way to change the truth is to be aware of it. I am about to turn 20, and as a child my parents slowly but surely let me know the kind of skin I was in and how some people would be opposed to it. They even shared with me the horrible things they've experienced as a Black woman and a Black man. Because of this, all of my trying times that i've faced were almost expected and I was basically ready for them because of the knowledge and love my family gave me at home. We don't want to inject our kids with fear or hate, but prepare them so they can become the change that our world is in need of.
I agree because if it really wasn't about skin colour as they said, why would there be a need for a television show with 4 women of colour? They have this platform because so many of us are underrepresented in society and need to see ourselves
I don't want to sound mean... but sometimes I feel these conversations are not realistic and a tad sugar coated. I feel like it's not really a 'serious' conversation.. just saying...
+Dayra Chi Because if you Black, then you have black culture. You eat plantain, jollof and do dances and wear traditional clothes which would be different to Asian cultures too
Idk why I can't reply directly to your comment with this new update... There are many examples but one relative to me would be hair. If I were to let my hair grow in its most natural state it would most likely form an Afro. Kinky hair is something with heavy ties to race. My hair grows that way. Culturally the Afro can be a fashion statement for some. For others a political statement if you look at the 70s. Then you see other segments of society that don't naturally have an Afro rocking it because it's a trend. American culture for example has influences of different races. Look at dark skin. It is something that people are born with. Some cultures use that as a class system for groups of people. Culture and Race are two different things but I was just pointing to the ties between the two.
Eugene Lee Those arent "black culture" though. I mean not all black people wear the same traditional attire. America doesnt have a traditional attire. Jollof is a senegalese traditional dish that spread through nomads and muslim empires and Plantain is something that grows naturally in subasaharan africa and many parts of asia that eat it too. Theres no such thing as "black culture". Black american culture sure. However Africa is too diverse to just assume they all share the same cultures though some share similarities due to tribes belonging to more than one nation
That’s why I love channels like TYT. These ladies are great but they’re daytime co hosts and regulated by a mainstream network. There’s only so ‘real’ you can get in these situations
Theeeyyy did lowkeyyyy. Especially on what Tamera was saying, i was like.. whaaaat? Like I agree with what she was saying, but it really wasn't about that.
They all had great points. But I think they missed the whole point.. Being confident as a women and being confident as a child are two different scenarios. And it is a huge difference between the two. I'm almost 20 years old and I am not as confident as I want to be but if I were to compare now to when I was a little girl, it's not even comparable. That's how much of a difference it is. This little girl isn't going to have the confidence that these women have because it takes time to gain.
I agree, but seeing confident beautiful role models help kids have someone to look like that looks like them. I wish I had someone like Jeannie as a kid to look up up, I'm Asian haha. But identifying positively with someone successful, especially one that looks like you can do wonders growing up
I disagree I was more confident as a child than I am now as a 20 y/o woman. It's only when people started pointing things out about the way I look that I started to feel slightly insecure. And I agree with Loni, I'm not going to let my "blackness" or whatever get in the way of me doing what I want to do in life. I've always been in a predominant white surrounding so I'm used to being one of the few black people in the room. I also don't feel like my race is a primary concern for me.
+Johanna Figuerosa I also think people should be instilling values of self love and appreciation, into their kids. Teaching children to learn and appreciate their skin/race/culture when they're young is a lot easier to do so than when they're much older, because their mindset is harder to change. You shouldn't rely on other people to tell you/validate your self worth, that power should come from you and you alone. (As cheesy as that sounds) I really do believe in that!
I agree. I feel like they missed the point. When does the conversation about race start? I didn't know about race until I was 5 being called the N word by kids my age. How do you prepare the kids to properly deal with race issues? It takes a long time to develop the type of self confidence that they speak of. Kids won't have that time.
Genetics are such an interesting thing. Even though both of my parent's are latino, my father has white skin but is usually tan and my mother has light black skin. We are four siblings and I'm exactly in the middle with a medium skins tone with super dark brown eyes, I have one sister who's skin is much darker with hazel eyes and very textured hair, one is white with green eyes, and the other one is super white with greyish hazely eyes and her hair has natural blonde highlights. It's crazy
^^To the person above, that's because being latino isn't a race, but an ethnic group specifically made up of various races (white/black/indigenous) or even just one of those (most are white, a close second are indigenous, a large minority are black).
Storm Bey Yeah, I know, I was just specifying that they're Latino to specify that they're both mixed but my mom's has more black in her and my dad has more white in him.
What a disappointing approach to such an important discussion... what's even more disappointing is that they have a platform like this to have a more productive and informative discussion and they just couldn't deliver. If you're going to dance around the topic, just don't bring it up at all. One would think that as diverse as their panel is, their opinions on an important topic such as 'race' would be reflective of that. What a shame. #BlackLivesMatter
true . Thats the problem with them they are afraid to tackle the real issues . idk they are sooo politically correct . they never goo really deep on real topics . comes off very superficial.
Like Loni, I am aware of my blackness but I TRY not to go into a situation making it all about that! Like Jeannie, I am proud of my culture, but have had so many rich experiences because I've had friends from different ethnicities, etc. And like Tamera, I don't let people define me. I allow only God to define me!
Didn't they speak about this already and again, they failed to dig deep. Tamera has said that same sentence "not letting people define who she is" even when she said she hated being called the goofy twin looool
Frida Solo. I didn't say I disagreed with what they said. I just mean they super sugar coated it. They do this every-time they talk. Being black isn't an insecurity. So comparing it to one doesn't really make sense to me.
Bella Garcia nothing is gonna change. Do you really think loving yourself is gonna change the way the world sees you? And you’re saying Black people are negative? Well, if being real is negative so be it. White people seem to live in this little bubble where you act like everything is gonna be easy, or like it’s gonna be peaches and cream for us of darker complexions when it’s not.
Children aren't as slow as we think they are; it's important to make sure that they are aware of the world that they're living in. There's a fine line between killing their ignorance and killing their innocence, however naive children will learn the realities of the society we live in and it's much safer to teach the tough lessons in your home than out there on the streets. Please teach your children to acknowledge and respect everyone's differences in order to have a more peaceful and equal society in the future!!
That's why I tell my children they are human and that's all they are alive and it's simple as that. f society I tell them society is mentally retarded.
In a way, it was. Mind you, I was about to get agitated as well at where the conversation seemed to be going when Loni started talking, but by the end, I realized that the approach they're taking for addressing racism in children isn't necessarily a bad approach for little humans who are just becoming acclimated into the world or even an adult who has been in this world and fed BS about minorities their whole lives and now thinks that we're all horrible human beings. At the crux of police brutality, racism in all its forms and prejudices and/or stereotypes is the idea that has been fed to the White masses that minority races are somehow inferior yet, if we as humans taught young children that we're all multifaceted and fully actualized beings that just have different cultures who all hold value, imagine how much more positive life could be. It wasn't the conversation I thought I wanted in the beginning, but they did have a point.
Sorry.... I don't think this is what the man in the letter was saying.. At all. That baby girl was born in a world that HATES her for her skin color.. Even before she was born. We don't care about being accepted.. But if the world HATES you.. That impacts your mental, physical, and emotional health. The real really missed the mark on this convo.
Thank you! That was my thought exactly. The man was just expressing concern over the people who will look at his daughter differently because of her skin color. No matter how we try to wish those stereo types away, they still exist and we have to deal with them.
The "World" does not hate black people. racist people are the ones who are hating. there's a difference. when we realize that we as a people do not have to play into the victim role, the world will truly change. if the world hated black people, there would not be an Oprah, an Obama, a Nelson Mandela, and countless other amazing human beings of African descent making a difference. My point is you have the power to be whoever and whatever you want to be despite what a few racist folks might think of it.
Loni, I was with you until the last part of your statement. Most black people do not go around thinking that all people are bad and against us. For the most part we all are aware when we are the only black person anywhere but it is when the non-black people react or mistreat you, that is when we are clear that there is an issue for them. Your statement makes it seem like we are creating racism in our heads without justifiable cause. And I don't believe that as black people should down play the severity of racism in this country. You may not make it a part of you but a great number of people have no choice but to face the difficulties and pains of racism. The racial issue is not about the people who are accepting of race, it is about those who are not.
Great point👏🏾. I was the only black boy in my school when I was 11(i came from Ghana to Italy). I didn't notice any "differences" between me and them. But they let me know that I was different from them.(they were sitting on the older side of the class away from me) Black don't go around thinking that ppl are racist...but eventually the non-black will show their true colors.
It's crazy how people deny racism. It's freaking internalized and yes a 3 year old is aware. When I was five I knew my friend was white and I wasn't. And because she was white she was somehow more beautiful. Yes we do live in a racist society that has brainwashed us.
Your comment is really refreshing. They really re-enforced the argument of those who like to accuse people of playing the 'race card' -many of which have not experienced racism. I would also add that their focus on culture does a little more harm than good. Linking race to culture can fuel stereotypes. People often categorise black people as a whole because of the actions, choices and preferences of some. I'm still trying to figure out what the 'black culture' consists of to be honest. I like classical music and enjoy ninteenth century American and British literature. To some that makes me less 'black'. Lol.
Loni is lost! Kids do know about race. A three year old white girl at my college (her mum brought her in, the mum was picking up some things) told a black young lady that she had "dirty ugly hair and dirty skin", then she said "my hair is beautiful and blonde". She was obviously taught to be vicious but seemed really happy and proud of herself for being nasty to someone. The lady she said it to was a tall, slim, gorgeous, well put together, part time (Indian and black mix, dark skin) MODEL/ student (who all the adults could not take their eyes off). But that evil 3 year old girl didn't see any of the young ladies attributes she just saw black and thought it was ok to insult the poor lady. These are the people who grow up to be racist because they were taught it at home.
I'm not saying you have to be angry but this was the most watered down conversation about race I've ever heard from a group of minority women. This is not a reflection of what I talk about with my sisters/friends. Especially in these times!
People complaining about them not digging deep enough but you know what I like how positive they all are. There is enough negativity and talk on racial tensions on the news.
I know right! Like why does race always have to be this deep, negative, politically incorrect topic all the time? I feel like they WERE being real about this topic by showing that we can be positive about race.
bonbonpoofpoof I agree. Like I grew up in the Bronx surrounded by all cultures and you know what I was fine. Yes race is an issue but its not the only issue and it seems to be all we hear about. Racial issues and terrorism.
Nth wrong with being positive but they can actually say it like they mean it . if certain subjects make them uncomfortable then they shouldn't attempt to speak about it . it comes off as very superficial and disingenuous
They were not "real" about this issue. Race issue makes ppl fell uncomfortable, but we need to talk about race. Your race defines you, that's the First thing ppl see, the thing is we need to teach our kids and ourselves to see color, but treat everyone with respect.
just because they may not have said what you thought they should say about race doesn't make them not real. Not every ethnic person experiences race in the same way.
wow. I could tell. She doesn't seem to really connect with what it really means to be Latino, more of just the idea of it. So annoying but it makes sense. Nuyoricans are the worst and so racist. My whole life I was treated like I wasn't really Boricua bc I'm black and my Spanish wasn't great. People actually told me i was lying and that no Ricans look like me. Meanwhile I saw people like me on the island everytime I got the chance to be there.
AshleyLaGata You all are reading too much into this and drawing unfair conclusions about her. She never went into depth about her race. She simply stated she was a latina woman, which she is! The term "Latino" connects all races of Latin American descent. She never said Latino was a race in itself.
Why are they sugar coating?..especially Loni and Tam....being confident in your skin does not change the fact that u will be judged because of the color of ur skin and treated different .With how things are nowadays 3 yr olds r being taught how to hate so they failed on this topic imo..They focused more on ..Lets show how we love ourself n rise abobe that addressing the topic n situations occurring right now
But you do need to rise above racists and should appreciate yourself for who you are. You should care what your loved ones think and say, not some strangers who hate you for no reason. It is up to you to decide what to accept and what not.
***** I think you need to change your nickname from Positive vibes to Negative vibes. Firstly, if you don't want to be treated badly, why do you yourself retreat to abuse and crime? Secondly, if you want to see more positive outcomes towards humanity in general, including the problem with racism, you really need to change your attitude and see how to deal with issues in a positive manner. You can't solve every issue for sure but if you want to live a life that you enjoy and to feel good in your own skin, you really need to care more about what you and your loved ones think, not someone who hates you for your colour.
This show has lost the REAL!!!!! It is tamed, ABC special, rehearsed TV answers! I miss Tamar, she said what you were thinking no matter how crass it came across.
Exactly, without Tamar we are missing that REAL moment. She always said something you were possibly thinking or wanted to say but thought it was too much for television. It made the table more well rounded. Everyone is not this straight laced and agreeable.
they'll be fine but that doesn't mean they won't still experience racism of some kind. even Kim Kardashians said she experienced racism when she was on a plane with North and how famous is Kim? although mixed is largely the direction people are going now, doesn't mean there's not still people who won't be ok with it
Remember she is dark skinned in her culture tho,she spoke lightly about how her mother made comments about her skin tone and she spoke about it on one episode
You are referring to colorism which is prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group. There's a difference between colorism and racism.
Yes there is a difference between colorism and racism. However, light skinned people are treated differently by whites as well over their darker counterparts.
I agree with the father ! HOWEVER at the same time , as a young man who eventually wants to get married and have children ; I don't want my children to be scared or nervous because they are the only one who is younger or the only short or only black one on the team or in a certain space ! I think we at first are usually intimidated by “ nobody looks like me “ but we should focus more on our values that we bring to a team , to a group , to a business because we are more than our outer appearance and we should focus on so! Our beautiful skin is just a bonus
I completely agree! I have children who are the only black children in their class and I tell them everyday they are just as good and smart if not better than their classmates. I'm not teaching my children fear; I'm teaching those around my children to fear what they have in store. Peace
I disagree. You should be instilling a sense of self love and black pride in your children from an early age. My nieces first run in with racism was at 4 years old when a group of kids called her black and ugly. It starts early
+madmann1000 and I agree with you on that , but what I'm also trying to say is don't worry about why you're being treated differently or why you feel you're being treated differently because of the color of you skin... Yes I'm all about self love but sometimes people still have questions as to "Why" it is happening to them
Each of them made some great points. I will say that the man has a right to be concerned as I had my first incident with racism in kindergarten. He needs to support and love his little girl and just be prepared to answer questions honestly and age appropriately.
The human race is one. Humanity has been conditioned to believe we are all from different races to create division and justify violence committed throughout history. We are all different because every person is their own world but we also have so many things that make us alike. At the end of the day, we are all brothers and sister within the human race. And I hope one day people begin to realize this and put a stop to those who promote and benefit such a division among the human race. (I wonder who would benefit from racism and genocide...) I really hope one day people can get along. Look how diverse the girls are in ethnicity and how cool it is that they can come together to make such a nice show.
We all have our way of thinking. It's sad you all choose to express your disagreement in such a way but not surprising. Welcome to the internet. Where we all have the right to think differently, regardless of if others agree or not. And no, we are not from different races. Humanity is one. Unless of course you consider yourself not human. What makes us different are our ethnicities. For example, Latin, African, Indian, Spanish, and so on are ethnicities not races. But people define ethnicities as races and are conditioned to think we are separated one from another. Well, at least that's my opinion on the matter. I guess we can all agree to disagree. I think the way I do and you all have your own way of thinking. Have a nice day.
There's a video on Facebook titled "Racism destroyed in one minute". I think that best explains what I'm trying to say. In my better words of course. That's all. Have a nice day.
I'm the only black person in one of my classes and I don't mind at all and I don't give a damn what anyone thinks cuz like Loni said "I'm gonna be me no matter what"
I have to say, this one was one of my FAVORITE segments. I agree with Loni and Tamera, and it is so healing to hear it from women of color! They know and understand racism. I'm sure they have experienced it, but the way they respond to it is so beautiful and freeing. Thank you! - From a Asian sister :)
personally as a young woman who was always the only black on the academic course i was on, it always affected my self esteem. I was the only black person in my grade to be in the "gifted" program. I often felt isolated from my culture in that experience and it lead to a lot of self hate and wanting to distance myself from the "black". It wasnt until, like most black people, i made the concious effort to overcome my self hate that happened as an effect of simply being surrounded by their standards and a very eurocentric education, after i mentally decided to love myself and my people, yeah sure everything gets better. I wish they would have stressed how important it would be for the man to instill in his daughter a love of self now so she doesnt go through what so many otger minorities go through. And i think out of them all, Loni wouldve known that
They are so fake. I feel like they don't want to go deep into issues or they try to make it seem like issues don't exist. It's either the way they are as a panel or what they are directed to say/do. It's annoying though...the show shouldn't be named The Real if it aint gonna be REAL!!
I didn't see what the dad said as negative, or as bad outlook. He basically said he's come to expect certain things, but hopes his daughter doesn't have to deal with it.
I'm all here for when Tamara said "I'm not going to focus on what they say about me, I'm going to think of myself and try and be the best version of myself"...she so reminds me of myself...and I'm LOVING Tam and Loni's hair !!!!
7 minutes on nonsense. Once again, serious issue is completely watered down to blind optimistic jargon. That father was definitely right; his girl WILL be stereotyped and discriminated against for the color of her skin. He can't control how adults mistreat people.
+Frida Solo I'm not saying she's going to be discriminated against in every setting ever. I'm saying she will face discrimination in her life more often than she should because she's black. That can't be denied. All the education in the world won't remove hate ingrained in humans since biblical times ( literally since biblical times)
*sings* Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya Oh Lord, kumbaya. Remind me when we step back into the real world and 2016.
I feel like it's hard to experience other cultures in today's world a lot of people get offended over everything but I think if we do experience each other's cultures we'd have a better understanding and can bring an end to this there will still be those few people but a majority seems to be misunderstanding other cultures rather than just not wanting a part of it for other reasons
Im the only black person at my office, not even African American,im from africa. But never for once have i felt like oh im de only black person, rather im very excited to let them see my culture whenever I wear my ankara to work and stuff like that and they love it.
please guys do not tackle these kinds of topics if you're just gonna sugarcoat the issue with all this "positive energy" "don't be negative" BS. As if positive energy can stop a fricking bullet. I know you're on daytime tv, but this is real life and the colour of your skin matters out here- we may know it to be superficial, but those who would do us harm do.not.care. about how peachy nice positive you are. So out of touch. This mollycoddling talk only really helps the ineffective folk who know racism is bad but refuse to acknowledge what is going on to feel better about their own selves.
This was a great topic and I agree with all of the co hosts. Kids at a young age should not worry about racism. Of course when the children get older, they will experience racism and then that is when you need to talk about it with them. But for now when the children are young, they just need to enjoy life and their childhood. Kids just needs to be themselves and don't let anyone define them.
i think they missed the mark kids are cruel especially when your young so if your directing him not to talk to his daughter about this no he shouldnt just make her aware of her race but at the same time if you dont address it i feel like it could either go one or two ways she could grow either a negative or positive complex yes its good to view yourself positively but you cant do that if you dont understand and at 3 your put in a situation that makes your race evident if that makes sense
I feel like they missed his point completely. Like, he's scared about what his daughter is gonnna go thru bc of the color of her skin, especially considering the racial tension happening rn. Like, there's no way he can protect her from that. And they're all like "don't worry about it, she's only 3! she shouldn't be thinking about it, she's too young" but he never said anything about her worrying about it. Or they're like "I understand but it doesn't stop me from being who I am. I don't care about what people think about me, I just be true to myself" like that's all fine and dandy but what that gotta do with the 3yo? What that gotta do with his fears? She still gotta learn to be happy and not worry about what ppl gotta say about the color of her skin. It's harder for a kid to not worry about it than an adult.
Honestly I just MISS TAMAR! Watching this show from the beginning.. feels like Temera Misses her being beside her & Adrienne missing sitting across from her!!😩😭😭😭😭 Ain't the real if u ain't being real about the show😩😩 Missing Tamar!!!!!!!!!
Ok Loni, no. You're fat. You're fat and beautiful. I'm fat and beautiful. Fat is not a dirty word. It doesn't take away from your beauty or your good heart or your intelligence. Don't be ashamed of the word fat. I'm fat and intelligent and beautiful and I know it and I'm not ashamed.
My childhood best friend is black and when we were younger she invited me to go to church with her. When we got there I noticed I was the *only* white person there. At first I felt intimidated but this random lady smiled at me and in that moment I felt so accepted there. Skin color just disappeared and I realized I was surrounded by a ton of good people.
I love that the host are from different cultures we can all relate also love that is more of a positive show not like " who's the father " and "who's sleeping with who" not that there's anything wrong with those shows but it gets boring sometimes.
I’ve worked in early childhood since 1997...there are children who are raised to see color, etc. It’s a conversation to be had when a teachable moment presents itself. As a teacher, we celebrated all cultures and skin colors DAILY... they went home and schooled their parents. 3 years old isn’t too young...
Ok Jeannie.. The pieces are coming together more and more each season about you and your swag. Growing up, being close with your Hispanic and Black neighbors.. ok, I see you! Very cool.. And that's what we need more of really to help with "racial" issues. People need to be exposed to different people in a positive way as early in life as possible.
The twin just said she stop letting what people thought about her defined her.... But when she talked about her own kids the first thing she pointed out ways their skin tone and eye color. Both of the kids look mix not just one.. Smh

"When you see that one black person and you give 'em that black nod.."
You aint never lied Loni
Will H I've been the only white person in the room too. The fact that you sense that everyone hates you and are looking at you like wtf are you doing here is not comfortable. I think from white people is more like, I want to treat this person right so they don't think I hate black people. I've been in situations when I'm trying to be extra nice because I tried to make the person feel like they are welcomed here, from black people towards whites it's just straight up hate.
nnuradadad you made no sense .. not all black ppl treat other races like that
:0 :o I was not talking about all races.
All facts
Like really.....you don't need to know them😅
Well spoken, Jeannie!!! Inviting anyone into your culture feels like home no matter what color you are.
She genuinely loves different cultures and people aren't hesitant to share their culture with her.
yes! I love your comment.
@m.c.rush^^
What Jeannie said made me so emotional coz i never realised that. She is really coming out this season!
THE BLACK NOD IS A SERIOUS TING!! haha,
Love it!
Stop culturally appropriating Jamaican Slang... j/k.
I’m white and grew up around blacks people. I give the nod but there’s no nod back. Sometimes a person has your back but it’s YOU who can’t see it
@@youtuber6185 if you not black why tf would you get a nod back...
@@slummadekell7626 are you literally telling me if someone from another race nodded you wouldn’t nod back? Seriously?
@@youtuber6185 the way you talking you making it seem like you were noding at another black person as if to say you black ...
"I stopped letting people define who I am" - Tamera 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. PREACH!
Dee Jay you have too. I’ve never been called the “N” word (to my face anyways) or in my presence of being able to hear it being said. I’ve never used the “C” word (not Caucasian either) because that’s just not how I was raised🤷🏾♀️
Spiritual_Honey WHAT THE C WORD?
I'm not fat. I'm full. lol I Love Loni!
thats a good one Loni...
Seems like Loni is talking more this season. I like that.
Yes definitely!
I mean, all of them can talk and express themselves more now, WONDER WHY?? (THE MUPPET IS GONEEEEE)
shut yo bitch ass up Pedro
yeah! she usually doesnt talk much when it comes to like touchy subjects like this and/or politics but looks like shes gonna be opening up.
She seemed a little depressed last season, but she's bright this season. I love it ✨
People who are looking for extra deep conversations should check other shows. The Real is primarily a light hearted entertaining show that sometimes "touch" on serious issues! Don't go to Popoyes looking for caviar or filet mignon!
when talking about mixing cultures they might want to go "deep" all that we are all in this together bs was not the reality in america
Damn. She said "Popeyes" LoL
I completely agree...they mention issues but they always seem too scared to go deeper.
Positive thinking can't wish away racism.
exactly
boom
positive learning can make you see good in people and be strong enough to completely disregard blunt racism.
And they are the ones who are doing wrong.
did they say that though??? tired of people starting things that aren't there and OBVIOUSLY weren't implied.
EllaBelle18 hum. Really?
They are not really talking about it 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
lot of skating around the topic
Maybe they had an agreement not to mention Tamars name on the show?
Yeah. I was so disappointed that I didn't even finish watching. I feel like they discredited what the guy was saying about his daughter 🙄
Does anyone else feel like at times they are too politically correct? It kinda comes across as fake and like they don't want to have deep conversation.
yesssss I agree. that's why I kiss tamar although she had her ways. Loni is the closest thing to real I think. well and sometimes Jeenie
+jemstone0006 I meant miss*
Be real with your opinions and feelings.
yeah such bull
Explain what u mean a bit more
Why are you surprised by anything she says regarding race? Her husband tweets some real ignorant things from time to time regarding race issues. Any black/mixed woman who can be cool with a clueless fool like that shouldn't surprise you in the least.
pixigirl999 true
She is as much a white person as she is a black person. Quite naturally it's awkward for her. That's why she said "Don't make it about skin color" She wants to dismiss it because it's uncomfortable and ambiguous. I just can't stand how white men date biracial women and say they are dating a black woman so they are not racist. I just roll my eyes because they fail to admit black and biracial are not the same thing.
i never thought i'd say this. but damn i miss RATCHET TAMAR BRAXTON!
Isabel Do I'm a boyyyyyyyyy! lol
maybe for the lighter topics. she struggled when it came to serious topics.
I agree Rodger
Let it go.. she's gone. This isnt the first panel talk show to change up the cast.
WE NEED TAMAR BACK!!!!!!
This topic could've been so enlightening, but instead they chose to stay on the surface. Smh
Nandi Majola Yup, yup! Btw, my sisters name is Nandi lol (:
+Nallah Brown That's so cool! You have beautiful name by the way! :)
I don't want to sound mean... but sometimes I feel these conversations are not realistic and a tad sugar coated. I feel like it's not really a 'serious' conversation.. just saying...
So they skipped over the topic to talk about themselves. They weren't even on topic lol
Okay but race & culture are different things :/
Yes but race can affect culture
+OurLittleSecretYT why so?
They missed the point. Vapid discussion.
They always miss the point. I don't know why they even bring up deep topics just to have superficial polyanna discussions.
That's Daytime TV
as usual
M
It's so fascinating how both Tam kids have the same father but has different features. Such a beautiful family ❤️
Genetics for ya.
I know right! Aiden is daddy and Ariah is mommy
#BlackLivesMatter
so sad
true . Thats the problem with them they are afraid to tackle the real issues . idk they are sooo politically correct . they never goo really deep on real topics . comes off very superficial.
Sashakay Richards so they wont "offend"anyone how weak
Like Loni, I am aware of my blackness but I TRY not to go into a situation making it all about that! Like Jeannie, I am proud of my culture, but have had so many rich experiences because I've had friends from different ethnicities, etc. And like Tamera, I don't let people define me. I allow only God to define me!
Didn't they speak about this already and again, they failed to dig deep. Tamera has said that same sentence "not letting people define who she is" even when she said she hated being called the goofy twin looool
right and was bullied in school but k
JayJay Nicola B. Shes confused
JayJay Nicola B. a person with an opinion lol mixed people seem confused on what they identify with a lot
JayJay Nicola B. So? Judging her as i can as a person in america shut up you sensitive as hell😂😂
/the cute twin instead of the Hot twin
They overlooked so many important things. If you're going to talk about race BE REAL. Don't give garbage cookie cutter answers.
Omg why are blacks so negative do yall want change? Its clear yall dont
Exactly if we keep talking rainbow talk like this systematic racism will continue to live and breathe strongly!!! its was sad to watch.
Frida Solo. I didn't say I disagreed with what they said. I just mean they super sugar coated it. They do this every-time they talk.
Being black isn't an insecurity. So comparing it to one doesn't really make sense to me.
@Bella Garcia I'm going to ignore you because you're obviously ignorant. The fact that you just generalized an entire race of people proves that.
YESSS 👏🏾👏🏾 and teach them to be proud of themselves, tell your kids that they are beautiful, smart and important.
Wow great post! Killing their ignorance versus killing their innocence I love that!
That's why I tell my children they are human and that's all they are alive and it's simple as that. f society I tell them society is mentally retarded.
The accuracy 👏👏👏❤
keep them away from the television because it will program things into them that will counteract your teachings...
Tamar where you at..I need a REAL conversation. This is a bunch of KOOMBAYA.
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😩😩😩😩😩
Rakgadi mohlala I know that's right??? Too much sugar coating for me.
Right 😂😂😂😂
Once again to the real missed the mark in the hat should've been a deep thought provoking conversation.
I agree. They just missed.
I agree.
no. he dad missed the point that not every white or not black person ain't racist
LONI LOOKS SOOOO GOOD! THE HAIR, THE MAKEUP, THE OUTFIT EVERYTHING!!!!
They answered according who's writing their cheque and not according to the issue at hand! The mans concern was genuine!
Yes girl, where is Tamar when you need her? *sigh*
WONERFUL JOB They got rid of her because they wanted "yes men" on the panel. Tamar was to REAL for them. #Ironic
Where have you been Pastor Jeannie!! I haven't called her that since last season 😂 😂 😂
Eve Yitagesu b
"I'm gonna be me no matter who I am", lmao!! Did anyone else catch that😂😂
Yes, LMAO!!!!!
***** Yea I'm sure she meant that too but I couldn't help but rewind and giggle a bit
Yea I caugh that ... poor Loni.
Lol.
This
Loni is lost!
These are the people who grow up to be racist because they were taught it at home.
key word INVITED Jeannie is always so spot on and so is Adrienne 😊😊😊
How about loni? Cause she's black. Typical
Jeannie is so passionate!
Love her story.
The black nod is a very real thing. It's like a hidden communication between us black folk. Everyone does it.
I get it from all ages as well.
I’ve never heard of the black nod.
I love how this show has a diverse group of ladies, because you rarely see that!
I'm not saying you have to be angry but this was the most watered down conversation about race I've ever heard from a group of minority women. This is not a reflection of what I talk about with my sisters/friends. Especially in these times!
jeannie ALWAYS knows what she's talkin about yes girl
People complaining about them not digging deep enough but you know what I like how positive they all are.
There is enough negativity and talk on racial tensions on the news.
I know right! Like why does race always have to be this deep, negative, politically incorrect topic all the time? I feel like they WERE being real about this topic by showing that we can be positive about race.
bonbonpoofpoof I agree. Like I grew up in the Bronx surrounded by all cultures and you know what I was fine. Yes race is an issue but its not the only issue and it seems to be all we hear about. Racial issues and terrorism.
Nth wrong with being positive but they can actually say it like they mean it . if certain subjects make them uncomfortable then they shouldn't attempt to speak about it . it comes off as very superficial and disingenuous
you can be both positive and realistic. you don't have to gloss over and sugar coat things to be positive
So being fake about the reality of race issues is being "positive"? Noted.
This discussion was so......unfulfilling.
I agree
very. FAKE AF
Jeannie would never be able to say what she did if tamar was there...
lol agree. Only Jeannie cant speak her mind without being judged and get attacked, but the rest could when Tamar was there.
I feel like the ladies are too politically correct and vapid to cover topics such as what was presented in the man's letter!
I'm a little annoyed that Adrienne didn't mention that Latino is not a race. It's an ethnicity. I'm wondering if she's aware...
same...
Neither is black....you get what she's saying.
black is not a race?
Why are they sugar coating?..especially Loni and Tam....being confident in your skin does not change the fact that u will be judged because of the color of ur skin and treated different .With how things are nowadays 3 yr olds r being taught how to hate so they failed on this topic imo..They focused more on ..Lets show how we love ourself n rise abobe that addressing the topic n situations occurring right now
yeah so disappointing
But you do need to rise above racists and should appreciate yourself for who you are. You should care what your loved ones think and say, not some strangers who hate you for no reason. It is up to you to decide what to accept and what not.
Veronica Ivanova yeah thats not possiblr lmao thats crazy talk how about tell racist stop being racist or shoot them?
***** I think you need to change your nickname from Positive vibes to Negative vibes. Firstly, if you don't want to be treated badly, why do you yourself retreat to abuse and crime? Secondly, if you want to see more positive outcomes towards humanity in general, including the problem with racism, you really need to change your attitude and see how to deal with issues in a positive manner. You can't solve every issue for sure but if you want to live a life that you enjoy and to feel good in your own skin, you really need to care more about what you and your loved ones think, not someone who hates you for your colour.
Positive vibes You hate racism, but are racist yourself? Lmfaooo the HYPOCRISY!
This show has lost the REAL!!!!! It is tamed, ABC special, rehearsed TV answers! I miss Tamar, she said what you were thinking no matter how crass it came across.
They were always like this. Let's not put it on the absence of Tamar.
Exactly, without Tamar we are missing that REAL moment. She always said something you were possibly thinking or wanted to say but thought it was too much for television. It made the table more well rounded. Everyone is not this straight laced and agreeable.
Frida Solo Exactly
I agree with Tamera but mixed kids are idolized nowadays, especially because their mother is TAMERA MOWRY ! They're beautiful, they'll be okay. 😍
lol "idolized" more like weirdly obsessed over
they'll be fine but that doesn't mean they won't still experience racism of some kind. even Kim Kardashians said she experienced racism when she was on a plane with North and how famous is Kim? although mixed is largely the direction people are going now, doesn't mean there's not still people who won't be ok with it
***** exactly!
kurrly. kirahh kim hasnt dealt with anything lol but however her kids esp saint west will maybe
Adrienne, please. Latin@ is NOT a race. You can be of any color and still be Latin
when did she say latin was a race though?
she said she was latina like 1000 times.
Thank you!!! She tries soo hard to sound like its so different from being Black or West Indian more importantly. So ignorant.
tatum635 she said she was latina. she didn't say it was a race
Adrienne never said Latin was a race she know she's Hispanic
I love me some Ariah! I have a feeling that with her sassy self, Ariah will handle anyone that tries her!
being latina isn't a race. omg people from latin american countries need to study history.........
I've read it's an ethnicity because really Latinos are typically European, native American, or African or a combination of 2 or 3.
Everyone defines them as Latinos...I guess because we call South America also Latinamerica ...and maybe it is easier for people if the just say latino
I'd love to hear Jeannie's experiences with racism. because ive always assumed whites love light skinned asians more than others
that's what I wanted to hear, I would've liked to hear about all of their experiences with racism
Yeah i know what colorism is
Yes there is a difference between colorism and racism. However, light skinned people are treated differently by whites as well over their darker counterparts.
Adrienne's makeup tho
Look how diverse the girls are in ethnicity and how cool it is that they can come together to make such a nice show.
thats bs im sorry
that's really sweet and admirable it's just not reality.
***** like peachy sweet and all but its such bs
I'm not particularly a fan of Tamar-- in fact I didn't know her until this show, but I so badly miss her spiciness she brought to every discussion.
I'm the only black person in one of my classes and I don't mind at all and I don't give a damn what anyone thinks cuz like Loni said "I'm gonna be me no matter what"
Lord knows how much i love it when Adrienne says "Latina"
@2:14 "I'm gon be me no matter who i am!" Lmfao I love Loni but fr tho 😩
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Its funny in retrospect because her face is so serious.
This ish has gotten so fake they need to change the name
THE FAKE
"I'm Not Fat I'm Full" 😂😂💀💐💐 I'm Definitely Using That 😂😂😂
I really miss Tamar she brought a lot of energy and creativity to the show.😭
I have to say, this one was one of my FAVORITE segments. I agree with Loni and Tamera, and it is so healing to hear it from women of color! They know and understand racism. I'm sure they have experienced it, but the way they respond to it is so beautiful and freeing. Thank you! - From a Asian sister :)
I'm not black , I'm not white , I'm not Latina , I'm not mixed .... I'm just human 😂😘
And people need to realize that as well !!!! I love that you said that
Good idea. Unfortunately I can't say that. With all injustice happening you are always reminded of the fact that you're black.
you are one of those though...
too bad ppl will keep reminding u that ur different
j3rs3ygangsta yep its inevitable
I love the positivity they are spitting. But, kids understand more than we remember.
Let's be real for a second, it depends where you live, being the only black, asian etc kid can be bad in one place and awful in another place
personally as a young woman who was always the only black on the academic course i was on, it always affected my self esteem. And i think out of them all, Loni wouldve known that
I MISS TAMAR!!!
Never answered the question but okay
But they did
@@flymoon1044periodt, tge heck people talkin bout in the comments😂
They are so fake. I feel like they don't want to go deep into issues or they try to make it seem like issues don't exist. It's either the way they are as a panel or what they are directed to say/do. It's annoying though...the show shouldn't be named The Real if it aint gonna be REAL!!
How should they talk about it????? What did you want to hear????
So they going to say be yourself and race don't matter 🤔 not in AMERICA 😅
I didn't see what the dad said as negative, or as bad outlook. He basically said he's come to expect certain things, but hopes his daughter doesn't have to deal with it.
"I'm not fat I'm full" Umm Ima need that on a t-shirt or a mug or something...
'Im not fat, im full...of it' should be the how it sounds.
I'm all here for when Tamara said "I'm not going to focus on what they say about me, I'm going to think of myself and try and be the best version of myself"...she so reminds me of myself...and I'm LOVING Tam and Loni's hair !!!!
This is why I feel the show needed Tamar. She was real for real
As a Black-British woman, I too give ''the black nod'' at 1:37 whenever I'm on holiday in a place that's predominantly white ^^
jeez why cant they just always upload 7 mins long girl chat or even longer !!!
I feel like by the time Tamara's kids are in high school being mixed isn't going to be as big of an issue. It won't be as unusual :)
Loni girl you slayiiiin with that hair
Lany said shes been black all her life but actually shes 10% white to ehhehe xD
Why did loni say "im gonna be no matter who i am" LOOOOL
Nazrah Baby lol! She sounds so dumb and stupid they should have went to commercial break
All the education in the world won't remove hate ingrained in humans since biblical times ( literally since biblical times)
black kids usually dont play soccer tho. and she didn't ask to play.
*sings* Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Oh Lord, kumbaya.
Remind me when we step back into the real world and 2016.
I love the positive view on a serious topic, however I feel they didn't really understand the mans concerns for his daughters future.
La Suprema Catalina Many fought and continue to fight for the privilege we have to go to work in a non hostile environment.
yeahhhhhhh 🙌🙌🙌🙌
if tamar was there she would of preached honey
please guys do not tackle these kinds of topics if you're just gonna sugarcoat the issue with all this "positive energy" "don't be negative" BS.
Loni I love your confidence all the time no matter what the topic is you always keep it REAL
Feel you Tamara I was born to a white father and a Latina and black mother and I was told I wasn't black or white or Spanish enough
“You can’t change the world until you change your mind”
Smh
i think they missed the point
