Does being in a mixed-race relationship give you the right to make jokes about race? “The Real” ladies and guest co-host Mel B weigh in on this tricky question. Watch!

If it's people of a particular race joking around about things that they know are common to their race.....actually, it's more of a culture thing than a race thing, then it might be funny, but if people of other races are making jokes about a race they do not belong to and their jokes are based on stereotypes and generalisations (and they have never experienced those claims from everyone of a particular race/culture), it's not funny, it's actually pretty rude.

ZizYoubizHERE yup, I second this, why?? Just because she has a husband that may have voted got Trump does not undermine her blackness. So idk where y'all are comin from..
It's ok that Tamera identifies as Black. I identify as Black, but I'm mixed. Nothing against my family members who aren't Black, but if I'm walking down the street and a person sees me, they aren't going to call me White. They're going to call me Black because I look mostly Black. Now, if someone asks me if I'm mixed with something (which people often do), then I'll tell them my background. But, just to make it easier for everyone, I say that I'm Black. Let people identify the way they want. We're all humans anyway.
Is it bad that, that's my favorite part about dating someone from a different race, that you can ask those awkward questions and be a bit idk racial, like I like educating them about my culture and them educating me about there's and if there's a question about stereotypical stuff, they can ask, & we can laugh idk I think it's cute tbh
I am literally as cool as a cucumber the most laid back person you'll ever meet I'm also quite shy and timid. Guys (usually black) always say how I'm so different, nice and soft spoken etc but I've noticed, when they find you don't fit the false stereotype of being the "loud mouth, angry, full of attitude black girl" they think they can walk all over you and talk to you anyhow they want. Then when I try to defend myself they're shocked and are like "how dare you" or "why you giving attitude" honestly we can't win
my husband is white and im black and when I have my scraf on my head he calls me aunt Jemima , and when white people do stuff i say ur people did this that's as far as the race jokes go in our house but that's it. it's funny to us and that's what matters
Shari Parrilla yeah I get little inside jokes but to say " angry black woman" and TRY to make it a joke but end up failing then there is something wrong that you said
Shari Parrilla I do believe that it's the intent that matters and as long as you aren't offended by it then that's what it is, but I have to say, if someone likened me to a minstrel show character, we would fight.
I swear, Adrienne truly says some of the most unintelligent things on this show! She says "I blame his wife"... are u freaking kidding me girl? In the famous words of the TRUE star of the show, Tamar "get your life"! How can you possibly BLAME his wife for the things that come out of HIS mouth? That is so stupid. Her logic will and can be used against her in the You Tube court of law. Remember everybody, the next time we see Israel parading around on the beach lookin like a crusty, overweight old man, we can all say, "I blame his wife"! 😎
The more I get to know about Adam and Tamera's relationship, the more I pray I never date a man like that. Let alone marry. I used to think the were so adorable
that situation with Adam was dumb. just because someone ask if you want manyonise doesn't make them racist. sorry but Adam turned that into a race tging. I love white bread, lettuce, tomato, onion, extra manyonise and the Italian sub from subway none of which have to do with my ethnic background. . my mom said since she was pregnant with me all I wanted to eat was Italian food. its just me. lol like Jeannie why can't we just see people for people. I agree with Jeanie the most on this topic.
I'm loving Mel B on the pannel! She meshes very well with the ladies and spits great knowledge on the show! Keeping her would be truly amazing! I've always been a fan ☺💖
4:18 Adam sit down, that was not racist. Asking if you want Mayo on your sandwich is a common question. Most people like mayo on their sandwich. That's like asking do you want ketchup on your fries, ice in your drink, syrup on your pancakes, or ranch on your salad. You get the point?
To be honest, I was reluctant to watch this because these girls can be a little ignorant when discussing touchy subjects, but I was pleasantly surprised by all of the commentary. We can all agree that racial jokes are only funny if the person is a minority themselves, or if their name is Gary Owen. Also, I think Mel B is a great addition to the panel, she's slowing starting to fit in more and more each day!!
😩 There's a limit to everything. And each of us have a right to set a limitation on what's too far with jokes. Just me personally, I have to laugh at things. There's so many sad things in the world, I try to laugh as much as I can. I laugh at race jokes, most, not all. There's humor in reality. I just can't be serious all the time, I have enough to be stressed about. Lighten up guys!
LMFAO IM NOT A RUG. jeannie brings so much to this show do you remember in the beginning she was the underdog now look! that makes me happy. Go Jeannie!!!
LOL! Jeannie... "I had to explain to him that I'm not a rug"! Genius. And speaks to a deeper objectification of other races too, describing ppl the way you would an object.
I've dated a outside my race, and we had an unusual relationship, because we would crack jokes on each other about racial things but it never gotten to a point to where it was offensive, we knew there was a line that we shouldn't cross, and to this day we still have a genuine love for each other. I have had many friends of different races, and dated outside of my race all the time but there must be a genuine respect and love for each other, and their differences.
I walk into the class on the first day of school and the first thing I see is a poster on the wall that reads, "Warning⚠ Educated Black Women Ahead!" this is the best thing I have ever seen....❤😂
Honestly , and this is for me.. We've had this talk before , I think there is a difference between laughing WITH the person and laughing AT a person , same with Joking with someone or lowkey throwing shade but saying its a joke.... If you are mixed with that certain race you happen to also be dating then that's fine but also you shouldn't make any racial jokes unless its regarding your race !
I remember being a teenager and explaining that there was this "Oriental man at the library who likes picking on me." I didn't know another way to describe him. I was like, fifteen, I think? One of the adults at the community center explained to me, "Asian. You call him Asian, not Oriental." She never explained why, and I didn't ask, I just felt like Asian was a better word in the first place, but now I know. Thank you, Jeanie for explaining that!
I'm in a mixed relationship and we tend to joke around with each other about our different cultures and race. That being said, we know not to display all of those jokes in public because it might offend someone else that does not have the same humor. I think that everyone is different regardless of color, so it's about knowing your crowd and knowing when there is an appropriate time to say or not to say things.
People like Jeanie are the best. Inform people rather than going around calling everyone racist. Especially, when people come from different cultures, words have leveling degrees of significance. I have a few Hispanic friends who have said things that sounded horribly racist at the surface. Instead of going off on them, I told them the significance of what they were saying. As I learned Spanish more, I discovered that, to them, what they said wasnt nearly as bad as the English translation
They just really make me smile I’m so happy the show is this way now!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ love me some Mel B too! Yaasssss TR YASSSS SHE’s a keeper!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Am I the only one who feels like Jeannie doesn't try to make people sympathize with her white family/husband, unlike Tamera? Race topics are always disappointing coming from her.
Koala I always hold on to my seat when watching them discuss racial topics because they're always cringe worthy. Tamera sympathising and Loni speaking in an apologetic tone for being black. Jeannie, and sometimes Adrienne are the real ones when it comes to topics about race. Surprisingly.
Yassss loni give us comedian tips hunny!!! Because you’re so funny and make such original jokes haha. Remember that time you made a brown liquor joke? Or when you said “that’s why I’m single” when we know that’s not really why... or the treemonster jokes that really have me slapping my knee... sis u tired
I agree jokes about stereotypes is a no laughing matter. When people generalize they do it based on what they are used to seeing mostly or experience. I like how you guys talk about being checked for stereotyping and moving on.
Deep down Tamera knows she married a racist but stay denying it. I thought Adam is educated and articulate. That's why you don't judge a book by its cover. I judged him based on they way he dressed (tuxedos), his job (correspondent) and his bank account (wealthy family), that doesn't mean he's the aforementioned, yikes‼‼‼
I LOOOOOVE THE WAY THE SHOW FLOWS WITH EACH HOST BEING COMFORTABLE IN THEIR SKIN WITH MEL AND SHE'S A NATURAL AND SHE BRINGS A UNIQUE POSITIVE VIBE TO THE SHOW AND AAAAHHHH SHES JUST A BREATH OF FRESH AIR IF I MUST SAY !!! THIS COMMENT IS IN CAPITALS BECAUSE SERIOUSLY MEL NEEDS TO STAY ON THE REAL PERMANENTLY STRAIGHT UP !!! 😎
Im in a interracial relationship and my man doesnt say race jokes or anything like that. I mean he might have his opinions about how messed up the whole racism thing is, but thats it. He hates talking about anything race wise cause its ridiculous. Im alittle different lol I check alot of people that are racist or have something to say about blacks, whites, asians, etc all that because I dont think anyone should be judged based on their skin color, thats stupid lol. So, anyone saying white people are this or that or should do this or that or black people are this or that, asians are this..etc, i'll call bullshit to it real quick. Racism is alive and well, but I refuse to allow it to take over my life and how I treat HUMAN BEINGS. Why cant people see it that way, I have no idea, but change starts with courtesy.
I love this show so much. You guys are so positive and very open and are not afraid to be who God made y'all to be. This show is making history and i believe each and everyone of you guys will be written in the book of life by our father. Every show on tv now is about drama, sex and lies. But The Real is built on pure honesty and truth. The devil tryed to start some mess last year but you know what, he didn't win. I have never felt the appreciation of real women the way i feel about you guy's. This show is not just a talk show. The Real was God sent. Y'all keep glowing and stay focused on y'all Spiritual and Natural goals. Be Blessed!
Tamera's response is interesting... because it's out there in the blogs that the reason that Tia isn't a fan of Adam is because he made a racially insensitive joke around Tamera's family, and she didn't correct him. She may corrected him at home, but it's OK to admit that BOTH of them needed to be educated. I agree that the mayo comment was insensitive, although unintentionally; I mean, even Loni assumed that all white people love mayo. She probably didn't want to throw Adam under the bus, especially since black twitter loves to drag him based on assumptions, but she could have been honest in saying they both had to go through a learning curve - that would have been more genuine. Well, I'm black and I can't eat sandwich without Mayo. LOL.
WifeandWife (This is copy and pasted from lipstick alley.com) “Tamera knows about one incident that happened after they got married and they got into a huge argument, but she didn’t leave him because she was trying to save face. Adam has said horrible things about black people, right in front of Tamera’s face. For example, one night they were hanging with some of Adam’s friends and they were trying to figure out what they wanted to eat, someone suggested Ethiopian food and Adam said ‘what starve to death?’ his friends laughed but Tamera was silent. She told Tia about the horrible joke and this is why Tia, Jerome and most of Tamera’s family do not like him. Tamera is holding on to dear life but this marriage will not survive because the lack of respect Adam has for Tamera and her family.”
I grew up in Southeast Ohio and I've heard plenty of older folks use the word 'oriental'. Some people still don't seem to fully understand what words mean and can imply. And the word doesn't always seem to be used in a deliberately derogatory way. Some are still ignorant to the power their words have. It's not a part of my vocabulary. I always felt that if you're unsure of an Asian individual's background (Not knowing which country in Asia they may have roots in), you just simply acknowledge them as Asian, or like Jeannie said, just refer to her as Jeannie. As far as racial misunderstanding goes, I actually think America has severely underrepresented the Asian community as a whole. In history entertainment, in the media and arts. We all need to come together to create an America that represents each and every one of us in our fullest dignity and greatness. Every race, religion, sexuality. Everyone. The greater strides we make in that effort, the better understanding and compassion we will all have for one another. ❤

But, just to make it easier for everyone, I say that I'm Black. Let people identify the way they want. We're all humans anyway.
LumiereDarling Perfectly stated!
LumiereDarling exactly what I think to !
LumiereDarling Excatly i see her as black until see stated she was biracial. Before then i never know she was biracial.
preach
Is it bad that, that's my favorite part about dating someone from a different race, that you can ask those awkward questions and be a bit idk racial, like I like educating them about my culture and them educating me about there's and if there's a question about stereotypical stuff, they can ask, & we can laugh idk I think it's cute tbh
Yellowlover94 me too. I love it. Right there with you.
Yeah, no I don't have time for that.
Yellowlover94 That's not bad at all! It's a bonding time!
It's fine, no problem.
that's stupid to do there not a science project
300 years of slavery, segregation, now tamera' s husband offended by mayo we have gone to far with all these racist things
On God 😹😹😹😹white people want to experience racism and oppression so bad and I just cannot for the life of me understand why ☠️
Goooooooorrrrrrlll, this is me. The media been out to make black people look bad, so we'll never win.
I say this to my husband all the time. If black women are not the stereotype ppl try their best to treat us like doormats. Its real and sad
Loni's burst of laughter when Jeanie mentioned the rug is fucking hilarious. I cant contain myself.
Please keep Mel B!!!!
my husband is white and im black and when I have my scraf on my head he calls me aunt Jemima , and when white people do stuff i say ur people did this that's as far as the race jokes go in our house but that's it. it's funny to us and that's what matters
Shari Parrilla yeah I get little inside jokes but to say " angry black woman" and TRY to make it a joke but end up failing then there is something wrong that you said
I agree u can call me anything rude but sayING I'm an angry black women makes me super angry. Like black women can be angry
Shari Parrilla I do believe that it's the intent that matters and as long as you aren't offended by it then that's what it is, but I have to say, if someone likened me to a minstrel show character, we would fight.
That's borderline offensive
Shari Parrilla Black girl lost
loni supposed to be the comedian but jeannies jokes are the ones that people actually laugh @. no shade loni but its true
Well said. She definitely *TRIED IT*. I will be screenshotting this comment for future back up evidence. Thanks.
Alexia Nicole Please do... be my guest!
Humble Chiq 😂😂😂
Humble Chiq she married into the duggar's cult, so, naturally, everything that's wrong will always be the woman's fault.
Humble Chiq Well we can all agree Adrienne's not been on the best terms with men's wives 😂😂😂😂😉
THANK YOU JEANIE!!! I get soooo annoyed when people say "oriental" like wtf does that mean??? 😒
Jeannie's hair is giving me lifeeeeeee
The more I get to know about Adam and Tamera's relationship, the more I pray I never date a man like that. Let alone marry. I used to think the were so adorable
Adam is not bad person, stop that
@@MrB590 When did I say he was a bad person?? He’s just not my type to date due to this video and others I’ve seen of him.
that situation with Adam was dumb. just because someone ask if you want manyonise doesn't make them racist. sorry but Adam turned that into a race tging.
So you would also agree that when someone asks a black person if they want some chicken it isn’t racism and they’re being dramatic?
I'm loving Mel B on the pannel! She meshes very well with the ladies and spits great knowledge on the show! Keeping her would be truly amazing! I've always been a fan ☺💖
I scream-cried at the mayo part. Not gonna lie.
It's not right tho 😂
Love Mel B on the show she fits in well! Keep her please the real!!!
"i had to explain to him that im not a rug" LMAOOOO I love Mel B btw
😩 There's a limit to everything. And each of us have a right to set a limitation on what's too far with jokes. Just me personally, I have to laugh at things. There's so many sad things in the world, I try to laugh as much as I can. I laugh at race jokes, most, not all. There's humor in reality. I just can't be serious all the time, I have enough to be stressed about. Lighten up guys!
mscourt agree!
LMFAO IM NOT A RUG. jeannie brings so much to this show do you remember in the beginning she was the underdog now look! that makes me happy. Go Jeannie!!!
Tamera u have lost ur damn mind with that story... Get ur responses to racial topics together
I noticed that Jeanie makes very poignant points now that Tamar isn't running down her throat.
LOL!
"My husband...sometimes is not funny." The shade lol
I walk into the class on the first day of school and the first thing I see is a poster on the wall that reads, "Warning⚠ Educated Black Women Ahead!" this is the best thing I have ever seen....❤😂
Honestly , and this is for me.. We've had this talk before , I think there is a difference between laughing WITH the person and laughing AT a person , same with Joking with someone or lowkey throwing shade but saying its a joke.... If you are mixed with that certain race you happen to also be dating then that's fine but also you shouldn't make any racial jokes unless its regarding your race !
Loni loves to play devils advocate..& give her "last two cents of wisdom" before every girl chat discussion ends
Don't be fooled that there are no racial jokes in England. There's even an issue in football and black players
Oy tamera. Your husband is that kind of person 🙃
"I am not a rug." THIS NEEDS TO BE A T SHIRT!!! "I am not oriental, therefore I'm not a rug. "
Loni saying "leave the jokes to the comedians" knowing damn well her jokes always fall flat...
I'm not a rug 😂😂😂😂
Am I the only one who feels like Jeannie doesn't try to make people sympathize with her white family/husband, unlike Tamera? Race topics are always disappointing coming from her.
Koala I always hold on to my seat when watching them discuss racial topics because they're always cringe worthy. Tamera sympathising and Loni speaking in an apologetic tone for being black. Jeannie, and sometimes Adrienne are the real ones when it comes to topics about race. Surprisingly.
Jeannie with her long hair is giving me lifeeee !
Love Mel B! She fits in so well with these ladies.
I've never heard about white people liking mayo???
Me either.
Yes it is definitely a stereotype 😂
Yes Adrianne!!! when she went there with that question now this is what the real is about! being real and getting to the tea but being respectful
Yassss loni give us comedian tips hunny!!! Because you’re so funny and make such original jokes haha. Remember that time you made a brown liquor joke? Or when you said “that’s why I’m single” when we know that’s not really why... or the treemonster jokes that really have me slapping my knee... sis u tired
Great topic. People need to be aware.
I love Jeannie's hair ❤️ I love these ladies and look up to them so much!!❤️
I agree jokes about stereotypes is a no laughing matter. When people generalize they do it based on what they are used to seeing mostly or experience. I like how you guys talk about being checked for stereotyping and moving on.
Glad you guys educated me. I didn't know about the oriental or mayo thing. Thanks!
Jeanie got real!!!!!!!!
This is when interracial relationships get sticky
The way Tamera said "I was just tryna help" 😂 my laugh just burst out of me
I swear Jeannie had me on the floor "I'm not a rug".....
I agree Jeannie, words like 'oriental' or 'tiger ...' Don't you agree, Muppet? I know your ass lurkin'. **sips boba**
Jeannie's "I'm not a rug" comment killed me!
Random: why is everyone's hair curly except Adrienne's?
Naussicaa Regis I mean she has her hair up. she curls it other times.
They all colluded and forgot to let her in on it.
Judith Francine
You sure he doesn't avoid race issues because he doesn't want to offend you?
Please keep Mel B! Love her on this show
I love this show so much.
LOL.
WifeandWife
(This is copy and pasted from lipstick alley.com)
“Tamera knows about one incident that happened after they got married and they got into a huge argument, but she didn’t leave him because she was trying to save face.
Please keep Mel B!!!! She blends so well with the girls!
I love Mel B's laugh!!😅😅 and Jeannie "im not a rug." 😂😂😂😂
Tamara is a fool for letting her husband trick her into thinking asking mayo in his sandwich was racist. Someone help her.
