- Join us during spring time in North Idaho as we get ready for our newest milk cow, Shirley, to deliver her 2024 calf. We build a simple milk stanchion out of old wood scraps from past construction projects and get it fitted for Shirley so she can provide delicious raw milk for our family of 6. The lady of the house here skips some normal housekeeping chores because making memories outside on an Idaho spring day with the cows and kids is more important to us than a spotless kitchen :) The wife shares her thoughts about keeping the farmhouse clean during the warmer months. We also administer our spring shots for all our sheep before they head out to new pasture for the season. And a special thanks to Rita from Everything Homemade for some of her awesome dairy cow innovations and tips.

About Us: Thanks for joining us and our four homeschooled children behind the scenes as we run our ranch together and enjoy traditional mountain living. We are an old fashioned Christian family that drinks raw milk, raises our own meat, works with our hands, and hunt and fish together to help fill our freezer. We met 13 years ago and moved into a run down farm in the mountains. Over the years we have had just about every farm animal there is, but now raise mainly Scottish Highland cattle, Katahdin sheep, Berkshire pigs, and barnyard chickens on 100 acres in beautiful scenic Idaho.
This channel won't be flashy or exciting. We love the beauty of old fashioned slow living as a family. From here on out we plan on posting content from our daily lives around the ranch as we cook and eat together, learn together, build from scratch, steward the land, and tend to livestock as a family. We also make and consume a lot of sourdough bread. :)
So sweet to see everyone so thankful ❤❤❤
I love how you started counting blessings and couldn’t stop! So sweet that you always make time to sit down with that beautiful family! That is one of the many beauties of homeschool is to spend all that extra time with family! ❤
Thank you! You are right about how much time is spent together with homeschooled kiddos! ☺️

Thank you ☺️
I had a laugh when you mentioned your wife being a "scavenger". I remember back 31 years ago my first date with my now husband was dumpster diving. A store was going out of business and had tossed out ALL their metal shelving.....we loaded up the truck with all of it and then went to McDonalds for dinner. From that moment on we knew we were meant for each other! To this day we can't pass up a tossed out anything if we think we could recycle and reuse it!
😂 awesome!!
Nice video. Took a while for my wife to get used to 'good enough' for farm stuff. I used to do furniture making, so I think she was expecting that quality on everything. Don't have time with everything else that needs done. Always something to do around the homestead.
100%^ ive made furniture and built all kinds of stuff for decades and can spend tons of time making things perfect, but on a farm it is ‘good enough’ like you said!! 😂 if it is functional and gets the job done it works and onto next project! :)
Божих благословінь Вам і охорони.
Thank you so much!! You as well 🙌🙌☺️☺️
Like how all your family gets involved in all the tasks. 🎉❤
Thank you!! Yes, it’s our favorite thing!
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Thanks so much!
Love your channel, God bless!
Thank you for your kind words! Much love from Idaho!
@@TheRancherAndTheWife 😄 Same, only from SE Idaho!
We really miss our Jersey momma cow we had in Alabama before moving up here to the North Pole. 🐮
Oh sweet you guys had a jersey! Open to any pointers! 🤠
Haha north pole
@@TheRancherAndTheWife we didn’t milk her. We intended to but I accidentally won a few (6) bottle calves on an online auction out of Georgia and we had to use her for a nurse cow because trying to bottle feed them was not a good time.
@@9252LIFE nice! our kids love bottle feeding calves, maybe more than sheep. But six Bottlers is a lot at once! 😂😂
@@TheRancherAndTheWife it was a horrible experience especially for my wife and kids. Lol I was at work most of the time so they had to handle them. 😆 Unfortunately the dairy farm we got them from didn’t let them get colostrum and they were pretty sickly. Most of them died. Wife had to put electrolytes down their throats through tubes and the vet told us that that particular farm is known for these kind of outcomes.. lesson learned. No more auctions for us! But the two calves we put on our jersey momma cow survived.
The best home 🏡 stead video 📹 ❤...WOW super fantastic 😊😊, I watch a lot of home 🏡 stead videos and your video are awesome and amazing...thank you and God bless your beautiful family 👪 😊😊😊

... HI GUYS FORGET TO TELL YOU THAT I LOVE THE KISS OF THE COW.... AHAHAH...
haha!! So do we!!
Y’all have inspired me to practice gratefulness in times of connection (ex meal times) and to be ok with a “messy kitchen” I often feel like I a failing wife and mom when the house work falls behind
Thank you!!That is so awesome to hear!!! We cant keep a clean house despite trying Ha. It is better to invest time into family anyway! All the best to you!! 🙌☺️

Thanks so much for giving us another glimpse into your lives. Seems like Shirley really loves the routine and will be comfortable when it comes time to begin milking her. God bless y’all!

Solid videos! I live in the far rural North and am trying to grow my homestead much like yours! Thanks for the motivation!
Awesome to hear!! We are honored to be a source of inspiration to someone☺️ congrats on your hard work there, wheee abouts are ya?
Northern Wisconsin!
@@thomascolvin820 nice! looks like beautiful country there.
Our jersey surragot mothers we have give dang good milk and more cream than actual milk sometimes. We tried it with a coke and it tasted like a coke freeze.
That sounds like the best suggestion we have ever heard. Coke and cream. Wow. You might have changed our lives. Can we do root beer instead but still give you credit?
@@TheRancherAndTheWife yes I told my brother it tasted like a root beer float at first.
