  • Join us as we all look for our new baby calf in the woods! Spring is here and it is the start of cow calving season and gardening season on the ranch. This week our oldest Scottish Highland cow, Granny, is showing all the signs of pre-labor and then breaks off from the herd into the woods and gives birth to a beautiful little heifer calf our kiddos name Susan. We also muck out the barns and move composted cow manure to our blueberry, strawberry and raspberry gardens to get ready for gardening season. The cool season pasture grasses are starting to come in and the fruit trees are all budding out. Snow melt fills our ponds and the migratory birds are making their way into our little corner of North Idaho. Tour our DIY kid play area and a DIY seesaw. Watch the wife and our oldest daughter wash (the poopy ones) and store our farm fresh eggs.
    About Us: Thanks for joining us and our four homeschooled children behind the scenes as we run our ranch together and enjoy traditional mountain living. We raise Scottish Highland cattle, Katahdin sheep, Berkshire pigs, and barnyard chickens on 100 acres in beautiful scenic Idaho. We are a Christian family that drinks raw milk, raises our own meat, works with our hands, and hunt and fish together to help fill our freezer.
    This channel won't be flashy or exciting. We love the beauty of old fashioned slow living as a family. From here on out we plan on posting content from our daily lives around the ranch as we cook and eat together, learn together, build from scratch, steward the land, and tend to livestock as a family. We also make and consume a lot of sourdough bread. :)

    What a magnificent farm! You all working together is priceless. I grew up spending my summers in Alabama helping my extended family… to me children are better for all they learn… which you and your wife are doing in spades so to speak. God Bless you all🙏🏼

    What a beautiful life you're both giving your children. And Mrs wife, your smile is like a ray of sunshine. Happy you all popped up on my youtube.
    She's a solid calf, they're pretty cows. My parents grew up on dairy farms, I didn't, but nothing was ever wasted, I remember we had a homemade see-saw they are called here in Australia. A job well done. Thanks for sharing you lives. Take care and God bless ❤🇦🇺

      @TheRancherAndTheWife I'm not a farmer. However, It once was a dream of mine 😀 My Nanna Bully had jerseys, and I spent many weekends on the farm there. What I've seen around are Holstein-Friesian and Aussie Red. I think different states seem to like a particular brand. I grew up in Port Macquarie New South Wales and saw a lot of Holstein - Friesian. Here in Qld, I see all different. I guess it depends on the size of the farm and what you want from them. So I'm the only Aussie you have, I hope you get a few more, I'll have to letter drop and tell everyone to subscribe. 😅 take care all.

    We tried blueberries, but did not have success. I heard adding pine needles is good, but check that out before you try it. I so appreciate the Christian homesteading channels available to watch. It is encouraging and educational.

      Hi thank you! We do needles also. Any carbon gets tossed on them. Woodchips etc. We gave up on blueberries ten years ago after many fails but glad we finally found something that works :) Thanks for your message!

      Very very interesting on the leftover sourdough!!!!! Wow! Yes the love acidity, is the leftover sourdough quite acidic? It seems like it would be at first thought. ‘Sourdough Water’ for the blueberries sounds so interesting! 😁😁 thank you for sharing!

    You mentioned the kids are home schooled. Do they get to socialise with other children regularly

    • @TheRancherAndTheWife
      @TheRancherAndTheWife  3 месяца назад

      You would have to explain what you mean specifically by ‘socialization’ since people use that to connote a variety of different things.

    • @user-bq4ke4sl5o
      @user-bq4ke4sl5o 3 месяца назад

      I mean do your kids get to play with other children other than their siblings. I’m assuming your farm farm in north Idaho might be in a remote area not too many neighbours.

    • @TheRancherAndTheWife
      @TheRancherAndTheWife  3 месяца назад +1

      @@user-bq4ke4sl5o there are lots of families here and we dont actually know any non-homeschooled kiddos. Most of us go to church together, play together and live near one another. Cant imagine a better more wholesome form of community.

    Hi, you shouldn't wash the eggs, by washing you are removing 'protective coating ' reducing eggs usage time down

    • @mikemiklowicz4107

      Regarding blueberries - you can reduce pH by adding leafs/forest litter to the manure.
