@@satsangga941 Some what true...in 1950s about 100K people used to speak Sanskrit..they were mostly Kashmiri Hindus. But in 1950s when Pakistani captured Kashmir (which was Hindu Princely state who refused to merge India) they forced everyone one to speak Urdu/Dogri. And in 1980s when Kashmiri Hindu Genocide happened about 400k fled away from Kashmir and started living in different states of India. In 1950s after Dravidian movement all people from south of India stopped speaking Sanskrit. When India adopted western education system English became compulsory language and native languages of India were propagated more. Now only 10K people can speak fluently.
I am proud that my great grandfather never accepted other languages as his mother tongue and now my whole family speaks Sanskrit. In my village about 800 people can speak Sanskrit fluently

Another very interested word is the Word Russia it self... During vedic period, the current day Russia was called as "Rishi Varsha"... Slowly this word was taken shape as "Russia". There is another surprise for you why this geography got this name too. During vedic age, there were lot of "Rishis" (rough translation in English as "Monk") lived in this part hence it was named. Also "varsha" in Sanskrit means "Place" (a rough translation in english). So, a place where many Rishis lived in this Varsha that's why it was named "Rishi Varsha". This information us nit on my own but revealed by 68th Pontif Chadra Shekendra Saraswathi Swamigal Of Kanchi Shankara Mutt near Chennai India...

Very nice. Kudos to you. Keep up your studies. Yes, there are many similarities between two languages. I am also surprized to know not much information is available on internet about this topic. I know both rooskii and samskrita quite well, but have not spend much time on both in recent years. Another similarity is about the numbers. If I remember, in Russian a noun has 3 numbers, like you say odna kniga (one book), for 2, 3 and 4 you use one form of plural knigi, and for 5 and more you use another form knig. Its the same in Samskrit - ekavachana (singular), dvivachana (for two only) and bahuvachana (for 2 or more). It's is similar with declension of nouns as well. The linguistic similarities are very interesting and I hope I will get to studying more of it sometime in my life :)

I'm not surprised by the similarity, not the Slavic languages are sisters of the Indic and Iranian languages, between the 2 most Indic, the day Russian marries Hindustani, Hindi and Urdu, Nepali together will be a powerful language, these languages and cultures there is a common and strong past, equality and similarity are never free and by chance, I think it is charming that the Slavic languages are sisters to the Indian languages, the Indo-European family is dominant and giant throughout the world, in this linguistic reunification all these cultures win.
