My top 3 rules for what makes someone a poser is 1. they don't listen to Infester 2. they don't listen to the Tish' and 3. they don't listen to Incan, because anyone who listens to anything else than what I like is a poser.

My rules of someone being a poser: think they have to dress all in black to like metal. Pretending not to like certain music even tho you like it deep down inside because you don't like the fan base that's associate with it. And finally trying to hard to be satanic and edge lordy. Difference between a musician and someone who is just a fan of music. Musicians would be interested in composition and techniques in all musical genres, I would have thought.
As for fans, for example I don't like pure classical music, no, but I do like progressive rock which can have classical elements and I like classic rock, hard rock, blues rock, traditional metal, and the sub genres of metal.

I played there and we had an issue getting an Uber to pick us up to go back to the hotel. Also had issues with getting food delivered and asked security to assist with the random bums lurking around... great venue otherwise lol
Grew up going to lots of shows in sketchy areas of LA. House shows were some of the wildest. Realistically as long as you’re aware of your surroundings it’ll more than likely be fine. I will say tho, it kinda adds to the ambiance.

I’m a death and black metal head through and through. I collect cds and cassettes, and am listening to It for the majority of my day. But I just want to clear something up. MOST people do not just hop into extreme metal. For instance. I started with slipknots Iowa. That got me into more and more obscure shit. Idk if it’s because that was the first metal album I heard…but IOWA is heavy. Their debut and Iowa are great metal albums. I can see why people that were born in the 70s and 80s would think otherwise…but me being born in 92…slipknots Iowa is greatness. That does not make me a poser lol. I’m just sayin 🤘

I have a best buddie who is more of a metalhead than I'll ever be-long hair, tees, collected media etc. His favorite band is Ektomorf. I recently texted him about early Sinister having the best drumming secton and how perfectly they utilize blast-beats. I told him how I think As Rapture Comes is the heaviest death metal album! In his last text, he stateed he doesn't listen to as much music anymore. I'm starting to get concerned. I'm thinking he's either going to "grow out of it" or convert to some religion and abandon it all together.

If you're truly metal even if you stop listening for a while you never truly leave being metal. AKA when you start listening again after hitting a classic rock binge because all the classic rock stations in your area are too busy playing grunge to rock out anymore there's nothing quite like it.

My definition of a "Poser" is what I call a Surface Dweller.
People who claim to be into Metal but never actively go looking for things to listen to.
There are two ways you can find Metal - wait for it to come to you, or go looking.
The ones who never do any digging to the underground, never go searching, just listen to the basic surface level stuff and still CLAIM to be a Metalhead - yup, that's what a Poser is to me.
It shouldn't be that big an insult to them - it's their life choice, and you can be a Surface Dweller if that's your prerogative - but if you go round claiming to be a "Real Metalhead" and never bought a shovel to do some real digging - I'm sorry brah brah - you're a Poser and you better own that sh!t and wear a Poser badge so people know what to expect!
I disagree, a poser is someone who buys band shirts and don't even know the band or an actual real life example, this one guy I knew wrote bands on his backpack and had Morbid Angel(yes mainstream but I knew he didn't listen to them) I ask him to name just one song and says he forgot then comes back the next day with a list of songs he memorized. Straight poser. Poser is in the name someone who poses and that's all, there not in it for the music just the look. Yeah some people call themselves metalheads but as long as there not claiming shit they don't know then I don't think there a poser, lame maybe but not a poser.
Also a poser should be a huge insult because your just acting and not living your own life but since you seem to be so worried about posers I assume you can't think for yourself and need constant reinsurance from others giving their opinions on youtube. Instead of seeking reinsurance on youtube you should go back to your mom to tell you the things you want to hear but she's probably sick of it too.

Number one rule plus how to tell whether it's a poser or a newcomer. The poser will wear the t-shirts of certain bands to try to run around and infiltrate certain crowds whether it's death metal thrash metal or even pop metal like me and the newcomer will hear their friends talking to each other about different bands and then check out those bands and come back to the group and let them know what they thought of the bands. Then they will buy the t-shirts of the bands they like and try to talk music with the crowds who are into the bands they find cool. The posers just going for the popularity contest every single, time. Also the newcomer will talk to you or other friends who are into metal about the different bands they discovered along the journey of finding out about the bands they originally heard about such as rainbow and deep purple due to the linked band members which of course opens the door and gets them listening to Dio and all the bands he was in. Then the floodgates are well and truly open and the conversation can go on for a few hours while at some point someone's phone or MP3 player comes out and the music starts playing.

Because 90% of it is actually hard Rock with rap elements. Which I guess lets out Faith no More as well which potentially just opens the gates and starts shoving quite a bit out behind it. Aah, craap. I literally just realized this new metal lets out Faith no More from being metal which lets out the whole rest of the pop metal genre. Man I was slow to get this one. So either pop metal is no longer metal or new metal is pop metal. And if new metal is pop metal then that lets in butt Rock. Probably not a good plan, crap.

@@thephoenixhasflown if the band's sound incorporates heavy metal influences they are metal. If every band that takes influences from other genres isn't metal than Metallica, Megadeth and every other thrash metal band isn't metal because the genre has a strong hardcore punk influence.
