I love the Norwegian Black Metal scene but it’s annoying being a fan of it. Everyone wants to talk about Varg killing Euronymous, Dead’s suicide, the church burnings, the fashion style and corpse paint, literally everything accept the music. I blame garbage platforms like Tik Tok and Reddit for that, as well as the Lords of Chaos book and movie. I'm more of a black metal and black/death guy, but for straight death metal Incantation-core while derivative, is much more appealing than endless Deicide and Cannibal clones if you ask me. Super fast rapid-fire or "straight blast" all the time is overrated and gets boring quick. I don't want slow-azz doom metal either, just saying you've gotta mix the tempos up a little bit to keep an album interesting. I'll take The Chasm, Grave, Dead Congregation, Bolt Thrower, Pungent Stench, Undergang....over all that 90's blasty Florida crap any day. Except for the first few Obituarys, those were really good. I've got no use for Cannibal and Deicide and Hate Eternal records.

I guess it was about 10 or 15 years ago now, but suddenly it wasn't cool to sound like Morbid Angel, and lots of new bands came out sounding like Autopsy and Incantation, i.e., raw, slow and stanky. In my view, though I did buy all their albums, Incantation wasn't popular until they rebranded as a black/death metal band. Death metal had become too technical for them to belong. That's when you first saw the Moyen art Incantation shirts and patches everywhere.
