emotional things, link to past memories still close to heart. i know we do not have to let all go and can keep some sentimental items.. but i tend to be emotional to too many things.. as the people are no more in my life.. death or break up :( i feel it hard, even if it will allow me to be more free and move on.. i know.. but step by step and focusing on others projets too as i might not feel ready to let go some things too :) thank you for your message today, it was really the perfect day for it for me to hear that ;)
I am going into my second year of decluttering and simplifying so I don't feel so overwhelmed. The chronic illnesses you mention really resonate with me as tiredness and mobility affect my quest to move forward. I have multiple health problems and reached retirement age the same month as I was diagnosed with cancer. I really appreciate your calm delivery and the glimpses of your peaceful family life. Even the word 'cottage' has a soothing effect!
I sympathize with the struggles you are going through and commend you for continuing forward in a positive way! The journey may take longer, but that is ok! Blessings to you! ❤️
I find it's easier to think of a big project as broken down into smaller projects. Make it manageable. Also decluttering is very freeing! Then you feel empowered to do more decluttering. Also remembering that all our possessions require care. That care takes more of our time.
I have one thing that is really a struggle for me lately, which is two framed hand towels. They were a hand-painted wedding gift given to my grandmother, who has since passed away. My aunt gave them to me when I bought my first house 20 years ago and I had them framed. They are from the 1940’s and too delicate to actually use. I had them hanging in our guest bathroom as decor for many years, but I no longer really like them as a decor item. But I do like the idea of them. However, they have just been sitting in a trunk in my bedroom for about three years. I feel ready to declutter them at this moment, but they are one thing I think I might regret decluttering later because they can’t be replaced. So for now, they just sit in storage, but it takes mental energy away from me because I think about it literally every day.
Oh I’m sorry! That’s tough! I wonder if maybe you could take them out of their frames (bulk) and work them in as seasonal decor items…perhaps knowing you will bring them out each year and displaying them near a vase of fresh flowers, for example, would help you unburden your mind. The items you keep in your home don’t need to be used on a daily basis to be enjoyed or justified in keeping. ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage Thank you! That's a great idea. One thing that helps is knowing my grandma was a very practical lady who was a natural minimalist, and she wouldn't give a care in the world, even if she knew I wanted to declutter them. She would have probably said something like, "Those old things? I honestly forgot they even existed. Don't worry about it. What's for dinner?" So I don't have any guilt associated with them, other than the worry I might some day regret it if I did get rid of them.
I took a stack of magazines to the library, someone can cut them up for collages. I have a bag of blankets in my car for the animal shelter. Yesterday, I threw out 6 ripped socks. I keep 1 cardboard carton, flattened, in the back of my closet. I have 10 paper bags and 20 plastic bags for garbage. All my plastic tubs have lids. Tina,Al's wife
thank you for this message. it is really powerful how this message is making me a click and helping me today for the phase i am. thank you and congrats for your channel, you deserve it. the quality of your content from genuine intention to help deserves the best. thank you for sharing your experience to encourage, confort, motivate us in the process :) with empathy, kindness, it is like an hand helping us at home :)
Sentimental items such as old china. Decided to rotate the plates, etc., instead of hiding them away. Seems to be working. China coffee pots make great vases, by the way!
Your videos and presentation are very motivating, even when I am feeling stuck. I just watched this and even though it’s midnight here, I just cleared five more books off my bookshelf. Thank you so much!
I have all of these. The main reason is because I am sick and have a hard time finding the energy to declutter. I am trying to downsize from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment.
I once heard a minimalist say if an item is $10 or less and you only use it maybe once a year, and you already know when you put the item away that it’s one of those type of items that you know good and well you are gonna forget about it and will probably just pick up a new one when you’re at the store, then why not just let the store “store” it for you. Let it take up their shelf space, not yours. She said “you know the items you have multiples of because you forget you already have it and buy it again. Pretty genius.
Honestly, I have no issues decluttering my things. My autistic sister, who lives with me, is a hoarder. I struggle fetting her to organize and declutter. Her room is packed full. I am probably going to have to get her room under control. She won't be happy with me. But her room is a hazard.
I’m sorry to hear that Dolly. Are you able to communicate with her and can she understand that cleaning things up would be for her well being and safety? ❤️
Update, I am now having her walk the dog everyday. When she does, I can go in and just grab a few items that she neither needs or uses. It is sneaky, I know. But I truly am only grabbing items she will never use. Examples: pocket folders, old ribbons that once wrapped blankets or pillows, plastic cups, crafting beads (that were my 86 year old cousins), old paints, pens, markers and such. She even had 50+ packs of unopened playing cards in her room. The carpet cleaning did get done, but she stacked everything on her bed and tossed it in her closet. This process is going to take a while. But every little hamperfull I can get is a step in the safe direction.
That definitely makes things much more difficult. Can you focus on your space (maybe a bedroom) and get that as tidy as possible to have a peaceful place to focus? ❤️
To be honest I'm kind of on the fence about this one particular family heirloom I have. I really want to keep it because it was given to my dad by my grandfather but honestly it's completely useless to me and I don't really know how to get rid of it.
@@ArrowHillCottage no it's pretty small but having to have it around and storing it nicely makes it a bit hard to just "keep" it somewhere if you get what I mean.
Yes, I definitely do. If it is a type of item that could be considered valuable as a collectible or something like that, maybe reach out to different groups who are interested in that type of thing and find out if they would like it in their collection. At least in that case you could have peace in knowing that it has gone to someone who values it
Which type of clutter is the most difficult for YOU to LET GO of?

Absolutely! Very true! Thanks for watching! ❤️
I don't watch the news everyday. I agree with you. I often find myself being upset or unbelievably sad after I watch it.
Yes. I need a channel that has all the good vibes and happenings of the world! ❤️

Great idea! And yes, I think some sentimental items have guilt if you aren’t using them too! So good job putting the plates on rotation! ❤️
I do not want to jettison things just for the sake of having less, especially if they still add beauty and utility to our lives.
I love your posts!

Items that can be difficult to sell or donate can be a pain to get rid of. I use pawn shops for some of these items.
Good idea!!❤️
You are like the Declutter Queen!!👑 Love your channel.
Awe, thank you for the nice compliment! ❤️
I struggle with just in case clutter, but with practice am overcoming it.
Good for you! Keep working at it! ❤️
CONGRATS TO THE WINNER MICHELLE
Yes! So exciting! ❤️
Love your videos ! Thank you !! All the people in my house keep for different reasons. But we are Dr cluttering a little bit at a time.
Great job! Blessings on your journey! ❤️

@ArrowHillCottage ultimately, I told her she needs to take most of her stuff out of her room so I could carpet clean. Hoping it works.
Update, I am now having her walk the dog everyday. When she does, I can go in and just grab a few items that she neither needs or uses. It is sneaky, I know. the problem that i have is that my dad has a clutter issue hoarding and its hard for me to get rid of anything

@@ArrowHillCottage I do have my own space but his collection keeps encroaching on my area lol

Baby items, not sure if we are done having kids but either way I know there’s some things I’d never use again but getting rid of them feels painful.
Yes! Baby items have a couple different feelings attached to them! Sentimental AND ‘save for later’! ❤️
Not so easy
For sure! It can be a struggle to declutter! ❤️
