Both GM 28mm and GM 75mm and @ f1.2 is what I say since 2 years now : If they do it, Sony as a whole will benefit through status, heeps more then through their sales alone from them. Not a luxury but a commitment with real meaning and consequences to pros and artists.
Very cool progression compared to the Canon, it's smaller, lighter, apparently sharper and it costs less. Now time for a 21-35/2 zoom or something like that :D
Do you think its good enough to replace 24, 35, 50 primes? In my opinion the only reasons i use primes is because of the 1.4 aperture so i am going to stick to 24 70 and primes thank you.
If you shoot at f/1.2 and f/1.4 mostly, then it won't. It might come in handy for certain times of the day during the ceremony, but then primes will always give you that punch with you need it
This lens is a game changer for Sony. Don’t understand all the hate. Literally every event I’ve been to with a Canon shooter present they had the 28-70 attached. Primes are great but you’re either shooting 24/50, 35/85 with two camera bodies. Been that way for years. It’s a great option but if I can show up and have similar range at 2.0 with one body/lens that the move. I preordered it and plan to also shoot landscape travel with it. This and my 300gm with a 2.0tc is a big but epic combo. I’d actually love a 21mm GM next to go with this.
A friend of mine I shoot a lot of concert/festival with has his 28-70 attached to the R3 all the time and I'm jealous, even was about to switch to Canon. I'll probably get the Sony version
I thought I was going to get it because I was pretty envious of the Canon users. But now it's out I don't think so. It won't replace any of my primes (24/35/50/85) - and for the amount I use my 24-70/2.8 (10 times a year) it's not worth £3K
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer Interesting. I thought it was very interesting how much you shot at 28mm. Do you use 28 day to day? The reason for me to get it is because I'd want to have 28/35/50 on me at all times. That's 3 bodies (plus any film cameras). Whereas 1 body is very appealing and then I can pull out my 50 GM if I really want to for a portrait. I don't think i'd ditch all my primes but would use this most the day.
I dunno. 28-70 is gonna require three bodies with something wider and something longer. If I'm gonna shoot with three bodies, I'll go lighter and brighter with primes on 'em. Two bodies? 20-40 and 35-150.
One's wedding photography skills will turn out better for using primes, no question. I found zooms to just make me lazy and less creative. Would rather use a fast 50mm and just take a few steps backwards or forwards. And if I can't move I use the crop mode on camera. Anyway, pros will have 2 bodies with 2 lenses loaded in anticipation of their needs. This lens is basically just willy waving to Canon.
Thanks Paul! And thank you for your comment. I understand your concerns. I personally work with companies based on the people behind them and the value they bring. I've known the team at Imagen in person for years now, and they’ve always been kind and professional and I know their attitude towards what's happening. This goes to any company, no matter where it's based - they don't get to control their government actions and where the tax money goes.
those missing 4mm are a lot, specially for tight spaces. I rather use a 2.8 and push the ISO a bit than loose those precious mm. Not to mention the weight. 900g is a LOT to carry all day. PASS I see you've been in Lisbon ;)
A Sony 20/1.8 is a must have in my book, so the lack of 24mm range wouldn't be a massive issue to me. This is a tempting lens, although... when looking for a big range bright zoom, the 35-150/2-2.8 would probably still win just for the additional reach seeing I'd still have a second ultra wide angle lens on me anyway?

Great lens, but what do you think about 28-105 2.8 DG DN Sigma Lens? I think this one is much better about pricing and focal distance
I hope Sony listens to you regarding the 28mm lens. I'd settle for a 1.8G lens, maybe even a 2.5G one. But if it's a 1.4GM, that would be a dream.
Sony - top of the top!

You yourself mentioned the reason why many people hate it. Because there is nothing for the 24/50 because of the 24mm and 35/85 85mm.

Exactly that. I had the same thought - what a cool lens, but then I would just add this to my bag, but still keep and shoot all the primes...

I would still prefer the Tamron 35-150 for one lens wedding lens
Yup, that range is unbeatable. And I don't really care for 28mm really, 35mm is just fine for me.

what difference does it make?
Great lens. Great video. Appreciate it. But stop fundraising for war crimes by promoting Imagen.
