@Jones5121 Sigma 18-50 and 10-18 2.8 are such lenses. Both of them are half the weight of what APS-C 2.8 zooms were in the DSLR era, while being sharper.
Thanks for this - the two questions I am left with is how does the 28-70 compare to the Sony 24-70/2.8 GM II in overlapping focal lengths and apertures; and how does it compare to the Tamron 35-150/2-2.8 - which to me is an awesome travel portrait lens
Weight is more important to me will,stick to the 24-60 mkII. Have the 35mm 1.4 for when it’s really dark and the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 covers most things for events

A terrific lens for sure. However, how many Canon and Nikon users are going to switch to Sony because of this lens? Close to zero. This is good for Sony because they will sell a bunch of them to Sony owners that have been envious of Canon's 5 or 6 year old 28-70 f2.
This really is an impressive lens. This is going to be a game changer for wedding and events photographers. Seems to outperform the Canon version while being significantly lighter. Well done Sony!
@@petrpohnan875 it was a cool concept but impractical. Way too heavy to use all day, plus the autofocus speed and accuracy weren’t where they needed to be for fast paced, candid moments.
@@christianthane1482well it is the lens for an event, you can do portraits, group, detail, interior and exterior...all without change the lens at all. And 1kg is not too much for all of this, because some 20-60 is like 500gr and not F2, and a 85mmF2 weight like 700gr....1kg is around the same in hand for me. This is a 9/10 lens for me, just pair with the a7 and glue them to do it all 😂
I've not got formal timings for each of them to compare. I was filming in 4k 25 where the rolling shutter is actually less than at 8k. This pan back and forth does trigger it with the vertical bottle,
Now, thats chunky but it is a pity they didn't go for an internal zoom. Yes that would have made it a little longer but for the width a little more lenght wouldnt be much of an issue.
@@mousbleu I do not think it is a real competition. As the owner of Canon RF 28-70/2, two Canon bodies, flashes, many other lenses and Canon based gear, I can not imagine I would switch all these just because of 500g of weight saving on one lens.
I hate having to jam my fingers between a wide lens and the grip on Sony's Alpha bodies. Can't they just offset the lens mount a little further from the grip. Looks miserable for a lens I'd have to carry for hours during an event.
I am 190cm (6,25ft) tall with corresponding hands size and I'm having no issues at all with fingers clearance with RF 28-70/2 on my R3 and R5II bodies. Try Canon :-).

I would have preferred a 24-50 or 60mm. I really use that 24mm range a lot.

The clip at 4:37 shows a pretty significant rolling shutter on a relatively short pan. What's the readout speed of the A1 II compared to an R1 or Z9?

the A1 2 is pretty average for rolling shutters at 15ms. there are better cameras for video

Good point, it does depend on your finger size. Fine for me, but I have small hands
