    Have you ever tried to dye your own clothes before? If you did, how did it go?

    I definitely love the beige-y tone on most clothing. I love earthy tones. This turned out so well and I’m really looking forward to trying it myself 😍

    A very cozy DIY! Adding salt to the bath may have helped the color absorb but I think the color turned out nicely! Natural dye tends to be super light anyway. I've enjoyed dyeing with turmeric before -gives a lovely mustard-y color.

    I seem to remember my mum using salt to fix the dye when I was a kid. It’ll be interesting to see how it survives washing. Have fun x

      Salt, yess think i've seen that on one of the tutorials I watched, vinegar too. I think it'll probably fade over time but i'm happy to stain it again maybe darker next time 🤗

    I've dyed paper with tea, coffee, and berries actually, but haven't tried clothes, it's definitely on my list of upcoming DIY projects.

    Thanks for this, I tend to use white sheets but lately being stuck at home I'm watching Netflix in bed....and no,I'm not chilling but, but eating 🤣 and sometimes I spill curry, dips whatever I'm eating end's up on my bed sheets so I'll try this instead of throwing them away.
    I'll definitely use a lotta coffee.

    It turned out well! I have only dyed clothing using Rit dye. I used to wear a lot of black when I was younger and would recolor them black again when they became faded. It worked incredibly well and saved my favorite items of clothing.

    • @Livingthelifeyoulove
      @Livingthelifeyoulove  4 года назад +1

      That's such a good idea! I never thought about black clothes changing colour before, but I've had so many tshirts go a weird red colour from the sunshine especially in NZ and Aus and that would have saved them.

    • @faeriesmak
      @faeriesmak 4 года назад

      @@Livingthelifeyoulove Yep! As long as the fabric is still in good condition it's pretty easy to dye them back to black again! I had a friend in college who got a job at Walmart back in the late 90's. They didnt allow blue jeans at the time so he dyed a few of his green in the campus washing machines. That also worked well..but I REALLY hope that the next person to come along and use the washing machine didn't end up with an entire load of laundry that went green!

      Did it fade after some washes?

  • @sirih9012
    @sirih9012 4 года назад +1

    Nice! I haven't been dying but mum did in the 70thies and my colleagues at work have been talking about it and they will do it with different fungi from the woods! The thing I have picked up in discussions with them is that you have to prepare the fibres first with Alun (that is a Swedish word don't know what the English is) so that the colour stays in the fibres even after washing. Otherwise it fades quite rapidly with multiple washings. That process of preparing the fibres (or maybe close them afterwards) calls to 'beta' the fabric in Swedish and I don't know how good that is for the nature. But I am a bit keen to start to weave with old scraps of fabrics (like old t-shirts and so on) and then try to dye the textile first and maybe do things that you don't wash so often, was thinking about doing a bag and maybe covers for cushions. Love to see more DIY 🙂

    • @Livingthelifeyoulove
      @Livingthelifeyoulove  4 года назад

      Mushrooms, so cool! I love that you can get so many different colours all from nature 😍 I've heard about Alun too and some people use vinegar to set it. I follow a girl on instagram who you might like, she dyes with plants and uses soy milk to pre-treat the fabrics. Your weave project sounds so fun too and I bet cushions would look so beautiful in earthy tones instagram.com/rebeccadesnos/?hl=en

    I've dyed with tumeric for a beautiful golden yellow, and made a light purple with a mix of mulberries and blueberries. You should research which type of mordant works best with each material you dye with so the color won't wash out. Most of these natural dyes shouldn't be dried in direct light--they will fade. I dried my tumeric top inside out, in full sun and it went from golden yellow to pale yellow in about an hour.

      @Livingthelifeyoulove  4 года назад +1

      Oooh sounds amazing! I'm looking toward to dyeing with turmeric in the future too 😍 I need to have a look into mordants as you said so they last longer 😀 so happy to hear about your experiences
