Maybe it's because you use your right hand on your left side of the face with a slightly different angle than on the right side of your face?
I have this with all razors - for me, the right side near the chin is always harder to shave for some reason - while on the left side I get an effortless BBS with a few strokes I need to go over the same spot on the right side over and over again.
For the sake of shaving science I think you need to change sides - EJ on the right and Mühle on the left, then do full shaves with each razor.
    Nice video as always!

I've always said if they would widen the blade gap they would have an excellent shaver for the guys that have plenty of experience.

A very informative comparison shave. Just got and used the R89 a few days ago. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Cheers.

I have both the R89 and the DE89. And I must say the DE89 with a Personna blue comfort coated blade is superior to the R89 with the same blade. However for me the R89 with a Feather blade Is better than the DE89 with a Feather blade it's just a little closer on a 2 pass shave. So I'm guessing the saying is true, " Your mileage may vary". I think there both wonderful razors it's just a matter of finding the razor/blade combo that works for you.

You are right. The blade makes or breaks the razor.

Excellent comparison video Heiko, I gave the EJ only and it’s a nice daily driver. Also the Stirling Barbershop soap didn’t agree with me either, I had the same irritation as you have had. Stirling said some users have had irritation due to cinnamon oil that is used. I stick with Proraso too.

Wie gehts Heiko...Always enjoy your presentations and honest assessments. I have the Mühle R89 Twist and the DE89 and find the shave very similar but feel the Twist is just a little more efficient. Reference the Scho-Ka-Kola in a tin, in the 1930's and 40's they added extra caffeine to make the boys more alert - does the modern Scho-Ka-Kola add extra caffeine?

    • @Heiko-shaves

Yes, I think it has added caffeine in it. That reminds me, I need to order more of that chocolate.

I bought a new, made in Germany razor from Dovo, called the Dovo Primo ( they have two handle versions). An amazing smooth shave Heiko, worth checking out sometime. Enjoy your no-shill insights on the various razors you try.

the head is not only similar, but it's actually the same as the result of the collaboration between muhle and edwin jagger.

I have a black handle mule knockoff from China that gives me great shaves. One day I'll own the real deal, either mule or EJ. I like the look of your bladger ivory handle, maybe I'll go that route(but with mule or ej... not another knockoff). I have a full tub of the stirling barbershop and love it. To me the scent on the soap alone has some serious longevity. I used it yesterday morning, and I still get a hint of the scent here and there this evening, despite using a different scented shave soap this morning!

@Heiko-shaves I'll have to keep that in mind, I only have the soap and I'm susceptible to frag burn. Thanks Heiko! No stirling barbershop aftershave for THIS guy!

You summed up the R89 for my Dad & I with “left a bunch of stubble behind.” We didn’t like it at all. Head heavy, cheap dealing handle & not efficient enough at all. For me on my neck it nicks me very easy too. I sold the R89. Just ordered a DE89 to try. The Parker 78R, Lupo, 2C, or Geisen Gentile are much better razors for me then the R89. I’ll see how I like the DE89. I like the classy vintage look it has

@@Heiko-shaves WOW! I got my DE89 today. It’s FANTASTIC! My only regret is buying that piece of crap muhle R89🙈. The ED89 is vastly superior in efficiency & nick potential! My holy grail is the Rockwell 6c with a 3 plate for ED shaving. Well I hate to say it but this DE89 holds it own! I have used & have a LOT of razors. The DE89 really impressed me. The lined handle was very easy to hold onto.
Now I can rotate this with my 6c, Giesen, Parker 78R & lupo for ED shavers.
I almost wanna ask my buddy to borrow the muhle R89 I sold him and try them back to back 🤣

I have two recommendations. If you want an adjustable to dial it in, to exactly the feel you like, then buy the Parker Variant Open Comb (I love it). If you want just another three piece razor, buy the The Razors Company new stainless steel razor for $79 (alternatively buy a Yintal stainless razor, much cheaper but equally as good)

Yes. I have been through multiple Edwin Jaggar DE89 razors over the past 15 years or so. Single pass shave is all that is needed, just as shown in this video. It only nicks if you have a blade that you have used too many times.
